Product hierarchy in the material master record

Hi,
I am handig Data migration project.
This is related to Product Hirerarchy.
I one business Product Hirerarchy have been configured. But in another buisiness, Product Hirerarchy has not been configured.
There are some common materials using by both business processes.
For coomon mateials if I am maintaining Product Hirerarchy value in the material master record, is there any impact on business which is not being used Product Hirerarchy. Whether it will stop / impact on business processes.
Can you explain plz

Thanks for your inputs.
we are meging two servers. In that in one server, product highrechy have been configuredand in another server not configured.
There are some materials with the numbers calling as a common parts exists in both servers.
ex: plat 0001 in one server 1 & plant 0002 in server2
Common part is : m1
plant 0001 not using product hierarchy and plant 0002 not using product hierarchy,.
After golive, all the common parts are being used by both plants and same basic data 1 view.
If we are maintaing product hierarchy in the basic data 1 view, it will flow into sales view as well.
Then what about impact on the plant 0001 business since it is not using product hierarchy.
In the configuration, is there any settings to activate / deactive product hierarchy at sales area level.
Is there any impact on MM / FICO side.
Please explain.

If you do not use EH&S one option is to use a material class to mark the matrial as Rohs etc. relevant. As this is only a matter of storing infomation not futher process is linked to this data maintenance. If you wouldlike to use this stored data e.g. in SD, MM or PP processes you have to do it by your own programming. SAP EHS Management on the other hand gives you a number of options to use data like RoHs wich is store in EH&S further processes.
In any case: srtong recommendatino would be: do not try to use a lot number of material classes to do the same lik you are doing in EH&S.
Regarding regulatory demands EH&S is a "must" and wel integrated in SAP process (e.g. GTS, BW, SA Procudt and REACH Compliance Suite etc.)
Using EH&S is not such a "big" problem and there aer many companies which can assist in using EH&S .

Field description in the material master record

Hello
Our customer is requiring having 75 characters for the field MAKT-MAKTX instead of 40 as standard SAP. Is it possible to extend the length of this field up to 75 characters without any impact in SAP? Is there any way to go around this requirement without having a big impact in standard SAP?

Automatic creation of Warehouse No. data in the material master

Hi all,
I want the automatic creation of Warehouse No. data in the material master record at the time of the first goods receipt is allowed.
Similar to the way where we can do the same for Storage Location by clicking on Create SLoc. automatically in the plant parameters settings.
can it be done..plz guide.

Valuation class in the material master

hi all, we maintain split valuation materials, namely domestic & imported. we are working on project based scenarion planning strategy 21 : MTO/project.
in daily practice user convert unrestricted stock to project stock with 412 Q mvt type before MRP RUN.
but for some when user try to convert stock following error occurs. I check stock available, it is available. but i do not understand why this error comes.
Maintain the valuation class in the material master first
Message no. M7232
Diagnosis
The system found that you have defined your own valuation classes for sales order stock and project stock in Customizing. However, these valuation classes have not been maintained in the material master record for the materials concerned.
Procedure
So that the relevant accounts can be posted upon goods movements, you have to maintain the valuation classes for sales order and project stock in the accounting view of the material master record for the material concerned.
If you have authorization to do so, you can change the material master record.

The normal valuation stock refer to relevant table valuation class field MBEW/MBEWH-BKLAS
Special Sales Stock refert to MBEW/MBEWH-EKLAS
Projeck Stock refer to MBEW/MBEWH-QKLAS

I understand that it can influence field selection and the screen sequence of the material master record. 1. Define Industry Sectors and Industry-Sector-Specific Field Selection (transaction OMS3) -> assign a field reference to field selection
2. Maintain Field Selection for Data Screens (transaction OMS9) -> define a specific field selection for a field selection group (for example, depending on industry sector (the field reference appears on the lower table control).
Like the material type, the industry sector also has a control function. When you create a material master record, the industry sector determines:
Which screens appear and in which order
Which industry-specific fields appear on each screen
The industry sector you assign to a material cannot subsequently be changed. In Customizing, you can define new industry sectors and maintain the field reference for field selection control according to your enterprise-specific requirements.
Most data in the material master record can be maintained directly by the user. But some information is automatically updated by the system. When you enter goods movements, for example, the system updates the stock and consumption data. Statistical information, such as the date of original creation and that of the last change, can be invoked with , with the quick-info text Information on material.
Some data in the material master is used for information purposes only, for example, description, size, and dimensions. Other material data has a controlling function in an application. For example, the MRP type controls the MRP procedure and the price control indicator determines which material valuation procedure is used

Order unit
Unit of measure in which a material is ordered. It is the default unit in purchasing functions.
Order price unit
Unit in which the vendor invoices you. The order price unit is defined in the purchase order or in the purchasing info record. If you have defined an order price unit in the PO, the goods receipt will be recorded in both the order unit and the order price unit.
Sales unit
Unit of measure in which a material is sold. It automatically appears as the default in a sales order and can be changed there.
Unit of issue
Unit of measure in which a material is issued from the warehouse/stores. You can use this unit of measure in conjunction with goods issues and physical inventory activities.
Any quantities that you specify in a unit of measure other than the base unit are automatically converted into the base unit by the system. To make this possible, you must enter the ratio for conversions between alternative units and the base unit (the conversion factor) in the material master record. You can enter this information when specifying the alternative unit of measure

Classification Data Creation for Material Master Record

Hi all.
I've a batch that update material master record with a Bapi "Bapi_material_savedata". After Material creation or changing we also need to insert or to change a classification data in the classification view of the material master record.
Is there a function module that could be useful to update the classification data of a material?

Material master record: Brands

There is a field in the material master record where we can fill it with the brand of the material?
There is a field specifically for this information? Maybe we can use Prod./insp.memo in basica data2 view.

Thanks for your answer. We are already using Ext. Material Group. The idea is use a field that is only informative and will not have impact in the future operations. Maybe using a field with configuration values brings problems in the future.
What are the information fields are used in this cases?
Define a new Characteristic and Class and assign the class under classification view is another alternative and very prolix but we have to update 50.000 materiales and we dont have the tool to do this activity.

Report that shows material master record with sales text

We have a requirement to pull the material number along with the material sales text from the material master. Does a standard report exist that includes the sales text (from the sales text tab in the material master record?)

The item texts are stored in table

You need to retrieve the Text maintained using the Function module
READ_TEXT
goto SE37 , & Click on test enter the details
Text Object MATNR
Text Name 6000000376
Text ID 0001

And execute the Text maintain in the Text ID - 0001 - Sales Text will be retrieved.

You can create/manage your documents in transaction code CV01N / CV02N
Assigning Documents to a Material Master Record .
Access a material master record in Create or Change mode, and select Basic Data.
To create links to documents, choose Additional data -> Document data.
The Link to Documents dialog box appears.
Assign one or more documents to the material.
If you do not know what the document number is, you can search for it using the search help or by choosing Find document.
When assigning a document to a material, you have the following options:
1. Viewing the document by choosing it in the Link to Documents dialog box.
2. Viewing any originals of the document by positioning the cursor on the document and
choosing Display originals in the Link to Documents dialog box.
To return to the Basic Data screen, choose Continue.
Save your data.
Note:
SAP has recommended SAP DMS - Document Management System.SAP DMS are for storing documents such as CAD drawings, Materials pictures etc.With the document management system, users will be able to view the documents with ease within their SAP systems but need to Install the SAP DMS.

Delete a Material Master Record Permanently from R/3 4.7

We have a requirement to delete certain material master records permanently from our R/3 4.7 system. We have already archived all the relevant material master documents using SARA and are now trying to delete the material permanently using SARA but are unable to do so as the program is finding archive entries in MARI and prevents the material from being permanently deleted.
Is there a way to remove records from MARI so that we can delete the material master record permanently.

It looks like transaction MMDE cannot be used for deleting only a certain set of materials. It is setup to delete all the materials.
Is there a way to delete only a certain set of materials permanently from the client?

How to change the base UoM in the material master?

Hi,
I want to change the base UoM in the material master for a particular material but I can't change irt with MM02 as system says it has open routings for this material.
I have set the deletion flag on the routings but still system shows open routings while changing UoM.
Is there any standard SAP program by which UoM can be changed if open POs, stock etc. are present in the system?

It is possible to change the Base unit of measure in the following cases:
1) If there are no stocks of the material in the syatem
2)If there are no purchase requisitions, purchase orders, or scheduling agreements for the material.
3)If a purchase order or purchase order item is not being created or changed.
Procedure for changing is:
Access the material master record in Change mode.
Overwrite the old base unit of measure with the new one on any departmental data screen.
Save the change.

Delet Material Master Record but not the range

HI experts,
I have more material master records in production data base; now i need to delete them but at the same time don't remove the range numbering.
I.E.
there are 10 master record with range number from 1 to 10.
now, deleting these 10 master records, i would like to avoid that the numbering starts from 11.

Hi Jurgen,
I've gone through the data archiving project in the past. I was actually hoping I don't have to go through this big exercise for this minor situation.
The storage locations in the SAP system are fine. The problem is that when I came in to this organization, I found out that the procurement users have accidentally extended material master record to those storage location irrelevant to them. Those users don't post any stock to those accidentally extended storage location. They admit that it was a mistake. So, I don't really have to do stock movement or GI out from those affected storage location because there's nothing in them.
Now that I've initially flag for deletion (MM06) of those mistakes done by those procurement users over the few years counting to 2000+ material master records affected. But the standard behavior of the SAP system allows change to proceed in MM02 except for that warning message MM081. So, I was actually asking around to explore if there's actually an option to make it an error prompt instead and stop the whole change process at MM02 transaction level.
If I may re-confirm, what I've done so far via flaging for deletion of material master record at storage location level - is this the only correct solution available?
Hope this clarifies my intention of opening this thread. Sometimes, users are quite tough in accepting the results from standard SAP system behavior.

Revoke the material master data's updated in production

Hi Experts,
I have updated the product hierarchy field for the list of materials using BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA.
I have forget to set the SALES_VIEW flag in BAPIMATHEAD table, instead it created all the views for the material. Is there any way to revoke the material master data.
