Product Key problem

I just bought a Sony VAIO laptop today and when I tried to run the Microsoft application it asked for the product key. I founded the product key at the bottom of the laptop but then when I entered the product key it said it wasn't vaild? My laptop was also a Home Premium too therefore I thought that I should have Microsoft program installed in there already? Can someone help me with this problem please?
Thank you in advance,
Jason

Yes you would have to go buy the program. The product key is for your operating system. Windows 7. Microsoft Office is separate from this. Your computer might come with Office Starter in which case, you should see an icon on your start menu or your desktop that says Office Starter and when you open it or word, there is an option towards the bottom for use word starter which is a limited functionality version that comes with some computers.

I'd suggest calling Microsoft, since it's their product and they issue and validate the product keys.

    Use CS4.
Switched computer with Win OS to iMac computer with OS X.
    Downloaded CS4 on iMac.
But old product key entered is not recognised.
    How to solve problem?

There is nothing to resolve. Serial numbers are platform specific, but platform swaps only apply to current versions, meaning CS&. Your CS4 is not eligible for an upgrade, so your only option is to buy a new CS6 license or sign up for Creative Cloud.

  • Dell Windows 8 bios based product key Reinstall problem

I recently purchased a Windows 8 Dell Inspiron and i've been a victim of a special type of virus that block me from booting windows 8. I can't even get to the windows login page. I tried to reinstall using a bootable windows 8 ISO file which i found on the net.
During the install process it asks me to enter a product key, but given dell bios based embedded product key how come it doesn't retrieve it automatically?
Do i need a specific dell recovery/ install disk which will retrieve the product key or am i just doing something wrong??

Officially you should contact Dell to get a Dell Reinstallation USB/DVD.
If you reside in the US you can fill in this form:

If you don't reside in the US your only choice is to call Dell Technical Support.
Unofficially sometimes end-users are having issues procuring media. Especially those who reside outside the US as there is NO ONLINE MEDIA REQUEST FORM for non-US customers.
Theres been some complications with media (mainly because of Microsoft who messed it up big time).
For instance the Windows 8.1 retail downloader and .iso media rejects Windows 8.0 product keys and vice versa. For the Dell OEM media I'm not certain if the same problem exists. The .iso you found on the net might not be a reliable installation source.
In the meantime you can try installation using the generic product key here:
    http://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/70-windows-8-direct-download-links
Then you can try using RWEverything to view your Windows 8 product key:
    http://forums.tweakarena.com/showthread.php?t=226
Finally you can select change product key to the one you found with RWEverything and attempt to activate.
There have been a few that have reported such a procedure to work but I have not tested this as I don't have an OEM license.

  • Problem with product key

Hello there! I'm student and member of DreamSpark. I downloaded Visual Studio C++ 2008 Express and it require product key despite that in DreamSpark sayed "Product key embedded

Now I have 24 days to acivate it.  I tried to write in tech support of Dream Spark but they sent me here. Hope somebody can help me.

    Dear Vladislav,
    Thank you for your email.
Please kindly note that for Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition no product
key is needed for this download. The product key is embedded in the

  • I am trying to Install CS5.5 on a new computer and it is saying my product key is valid but a qualifying product cannot be found.

I have Adobe CS 5.5 with a valid product key (On the original box) but it wont install on my new work computer. This product is owned by my company and has been used in the past on my old computer.
I enter the product key and get the customary Green Check Mark:
I Click "Next" and it displays the screen below. I do not have any CS 5.5 programs installed on this computer. (It is brand new - opened and set up this morning)
I used this disk to install CS5.5 on my previous computer which has crashed and did not need to Upgrade anything. I do not have any other product keys to use for the second box and I have found nothing on this problem in the forums.
Any help is appreciated, I am at a loss.

Never share your serial number in a public forum or other non-private communication.
For the second image you show you need to follow the instructions.
You copy of CS5.5 appears to be an upgrade version.  THis means it was made available at a reduced price because you had an earlier version that you upgraded from.  The second image you show is asking you to provide the information for that older version as proof that you qualify to activate/use the new one.

  • Office 2013 Technet installation Error 25004. The product key you entered cannot be used on this machine. (System error: - 1073422314)

I am receiving an error when attempting to install
Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 which I downloaded from the TechNet site.  At the end of the installation process I receive the following message:
"Error 25004. The product key you entered cannot be used on this machine. This is most likely due to previous Office 2013 trials being installed. (System error:
    -1073422314)"
I have never installed a trial or Beta of any Office product on this machine.   However, I have installed Office 2007 Ultimate and Office 2010 Professional Plus.  All of these are 32bit versions downloaded from TechNet site.  In addition,
prior to this error I had attempted unsuccessfully to install the 64bit version of Office 2013 as well as standalone versions of Visio Professional 2013 x64 and Project professional 2013 x64.   All three of these installations failed due to previous
installation of 32bit Office software, so I have downloaded the 32 bit versions but not yet tried to install, other than Office 2013.
I used the Custom upgrade option during the attempted install of Office 2013, specifying "keep all prior versions".
Note that all the above was done on a new machine.  The specific purpose was to test co-existence of multiple versions of OFFICE (2007, 2010, 2013) to facilitate user training and migration.
I have tried uninstalling via Control Panel, and performed some of the steps for manual removal, however did not do all of them since 1) They are quite lengthy and 2) Some of them seem to involve removing ALL prior versions of Office, which I do not want
to do; the earlier versions are working properly and I do not want to have to uninstall them.  Just want to uninstall and reinstall Office 2013.   Also tried running  O15CTRREMOVE.diagcab which indicated that it could not find a problem,
but did not seem to remove anything.
I have read about ten recommended TechNet articles, which recommend everything from running a FIXIt tool, uninstalling all OFFICE software, and reformatting the whole machine.  Most of these involve System error -1073418209 rather than -1073422314 (which
is the code that I am getting).   Other than that the problem sounds the same.  This seems to be a problem with key management and copy protection in these products, dating back to 2010.  Dozens of IT professionals have tried the solutions
and vented their frustration since other than the full format, the other solutions work only sporadically, if at all.  Some of these people had been working with trial or beta software, but many who encountered this problem had not.  As
noted above, none of my software was a trail version.    I do not want to uninstall all the OFFICE versions, particularly if it as likely as not will not resolve the issue.   (I am also getting paranoid to the extent of fearing that
after uninstalling everything I might not be able to reinstall any version).  I think what we need here is a definitive fix from Microsoft, though I am not too hopeful, in view of the lack of response to all the other technicians who have been struggling
with this for at least the past three years.
If anyone is aware of a solution which works consistently, I would appreciate it.  Reformatting however is not an option.  Detailed instructions for completely uninstalling Office 2013 (ONLY 2013) might be helpful.  I would be willing to uninstall
all versions, but only as a last resort, and only if there is some assurance that this will actual solve the problem (for many others it did not seem to do so).
    Thanks
PS: Probably doesn't matter, but I am running this on Windows 7 Pro w/SP1, 64 bit edition.

    Tony,
Thanks for your reply.   I do in fact have three versions of Office installed on this machine, 2007 2010 and (hopefully) 2013.  I have on previous occasions installed 2007 and 2010 on a single machine, but this is my first attempt to install
    2013.
According to TechNet article  office.microsoft.com/en-us/support/install-and-use-multiple-versions-of-office-on-the-same-pc-HA103981695.aspx (Install
and use multiple versions of Office on the same PC) it is possible to install
Office 2003 2007 2010 and 2013 on a single system, provided they are installed in the sequence indicated.  It is noted that some problems may occur, notably involving file associations, but there is no
mention of any activation key issues.
As stated in my original request, the software which I have installed is NOT a trail version.   I did NOT obtain it from the evalcenter, but from
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/subscriptions/securedownloads/hh442904.
The above is a full retail version.    The files which I downloaded are:
    en_office_ultimate_2007_united_states_x86_dvd_480625.iso
    en_office_professional_plus_2010_x86_515486.exe
    en_office_professional_plus_2013_x86_dvd_1123673.iso
I know that the error message says that the problem is commonly caused by attempting to install trial software more than once, but that is not the case.  Several other people have reported this same problem, sometimes involving trial software but not
in every case.    My own opinion is that this is a software bug involving key management and copy protection.
Many people have reported on TechNet that the problem was NOT resolved even after uninstalling all Office software.  While there is a chance I might get lucky, I really would like a solution which has a better chance for success.
By any chance, does the error code 1073422314
provide any further insight into this issue?
Thanks again for your help.  However, further assistance is needed to resolve this issue.

  • In the middle of setting up windows but I don't have the right product key

Is there a way to exit out of installing windows and get back to the mac screen?
I have emailed support and people that I need to contact to get a new product key but it may take a few days and I don't want to leave my Mac with the windows product key screen on the whole time.
(sorry I just got a mac and don't know a whole lot about them)

    Here's a similar problem -- and a solution:

  • Can I reinstall Windows 7 on Boot Camp with the same product key?

I have run into some issues with my Windows partition, so I want to reinstall Windows 7. I have a genuine copy of Windows 7 Ultimate Edition.
What I wish to do is to completely remove the Boot Camp partition, and then create a new one and install Windows 7 over it. However, I have only 1 product license key. When I reinstall Windows 7, it's going to ask for the product key, whih is obviously going to be denied because I have used it.
Is there any way I can acquire another key for this purpose? I am willing to pay a small fee, but I am definitely not willing to pay the full amount for a new Windows 7 copy.
Furthermore, and a little off-topic: Does anyone know if there are any compatability issues with the Windows 8 dev edition and Boot Camp? Can I use the support software for Windows 7? Will it be able to take advantage of the hardware? Will I get sound and internet? Will I be able to scroll with my trackpad?
    Thanks.
[EDIT] I forgot to mention that the main reason I have to create a new partition instead of just Custom Installing over the previous one, is because I require a larger partition size.

    Thanks for your help!
Not to be a pain, but I just want to clarify some things.
    The hatter wrote:
The retail version can be reinstalled as much as you want, even to a new computer (just not two at same time)
Yes it will activate just fine on reinstall. Not an issue.
Let's assume I do not have issues about reallocating disk space, and just want to re-do my whole partition. Here's what I would do. Please tell me if it would work fine, or if I would hit a snag somewhere:
Have original retail W7 disk at hand (the one I previously used for my first install).
Remove existing partition using Boot Camp Assistant.
    Re-install using the said disk.
W7 should activate without a problem, even though I've used the license before.
Do I have to do anything on Windows before re-installing it to "deactivate" the copy (or something along those lines) before I can re-activate successfully on my new install?
    And what is System Builder?
    Thanks for all your help!

  • How to find Windows 8.1 product key on the laptop?

I have a problem since doing the windows updates. My laptop seams to have erased everything off my hard drive, I have a legitimate windows 8 disk to reinstall it but no product key, is there anyway to find it on the laptop?
I have tried doing the regedit, but can't seam to find it any where

When you buy new notebook and get it with preinstalled OS you will get one valid version that includes valid product key.
With other words original version that you got with your machine will be properly activated. Product key belongs to this original version only and you cannot use it for activation if you want to install own OS version.
For your Win8 version you must pick up product key from Microsoft.
Of course you can have original OS version again but you must order it by Toshiba - https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

  • Dreamspark Windows 8.1 Pro x86 and x64 Product Key Issue

    Hello people,
I am having trouble with DreamSpark. I have an account from DreamSpark and want to use windows 8.1 pro x64 in my laptop. The problem is that dreamspark gives me only one product key for both x64 and x86 versions of windows 8.1 pro but when I try to install
x64, it asks me to validate x64 via that product key. After typing the key, it gives me an error saying sth "could not validate". However, in the x86 version, it is able to validate. It is annoying because it says  "Microsoft
Windows 8.1 Professional 32/64-bit (English) - DreamSpark - Download" in the title. Does not it mean that the product key below in the page is for both x86 and x64? :S

    Hi,
I agree with Yannick, both x64 and x86 should work fine, but only one is installed at a time,
for example,  before you install the 64bit version, you will need to uninstall the 32bit version, even if it is on another computer.
    You can also run
MGADiag tool - Microsoft to view the detailed Activation Dagnostic Report.

  • Windows 8.1 recovery without recovery disc or product key

    Hey!
I own a HP g6-2207sg. After windows 8.1 upgrade and a new set of AMD drivers windows is not starting anymore.
Not in safe mode, not with different starting settings. Recovery points are not working, from 3 restore points (2 automatic 1 critical update (win8.1)) none is working.
I can neither refresh nor reset windows, nor can windows repair the startup (it fails as well).
I dont have my win8 product key, as it is not in or on the g6 and i never read it out when the laptop was still working.
I tried reading it out with the help of several 3rd party tools through command prompt, started from a usb stick, which is not working as there are windows functions missing.
I cant download a fresh .iso of win 8 from windows itself as i dont have the key.
Please help, i dont know what to do anymore and i need my computer for work.

    Hi,
The Windows 8 Image source does have a download limit in place, but it will usually work if you keep trying for a couple of hours.  The key will be automatically read from the bios during installation.
I'm not aware of any way you can decipher the encrypted key via the command shell - only from reading its entry from the registry.
Unfortunayely, as with previous operating systems, neither Microsoft or HP will have any record of this key.
Another option would be to order a replacement set of Recovery Discs starting on the link below.
    Order HP Recovery Discs.
If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.
