Product Key Question

My family recently bought me the 15-f023wm Notebook for me to continue my college courses. Trying to access Microsoft office I know there is a 25 character product key, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Not in the manual, on the box, on the laptop, or anything. I read an article stating that the product key is in the BIOS of the computer but I don't know what that means. Or is it that I need to go and purchase Microsoft Office and just don't realize it, how would I know whether or not I need to? I would greatly appreciate the help. Thank you.

Most likely in your case you got a 30 Day trial of Microsoft Office and to continue using it you need to contact Microsoft and buy a Office Product Key to activiate your Office to use.

  • Windows 7 license question product key in connection with other computer

I bought a new Toshiba laptop from pc world with windows 7 home premiums64bit pre-installed onto it.
I have just bought a new pc tower that is without an operating system.
I would like to know if I can install windows 7 onto the new pc and then use the product key on the underside of my laptop as I believe the key can be used on up to three separate computers.
I also would like to know how to obtain a copy of the disc with which to do the install as one was not provided with the laptop.
Thanks in advance for any assistance

    > I also would like to know how to obtain a copy of the disc with which to do the install as one was not provided with the laptop.
Usually you should be able to create such recovery disk using the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator tool which is always preinstalled on Toshiba notebook.
But in case you modified the HDD or formatted the HDD, you would not be able create such disk.
In case you purchased the Toshiba European notebook series, the recovery disk could be ordered here: http://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
    > I would like to know if I can install windows 7 onto the new pc and then use the product key on the underside of my laptop
No since this key belongs to the OEM Windows version bundled with the notebook.

  • Question about Win7 product key and Win8 upgrade

Please correct me if i am wrong .
I have got the impression that this is a general product key found on the back of many laptops HYF8J-CVRMY-CM74G-RPHKF--****
if i bought the win 8 upgrade and it activated on my *desktop* (supposing i installed win7 using this key) what does that mean? since this is a general key on many laptops.
Does it mean that I am legally eligible to the upgrade?

    Hi
First of all the Win 7 key which you can find on the bottom belongs to the preinstalled image.
This is Win 7 key. Your Win 7 system was already activated by default
    Now to Win 8 upgrade:
Visit this Toshiba EU Win 8 upgrade page to get details:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/windows8-message
The Win 8 upgrade is available if you have purchased a PC preloaded with genuine Windows 7 Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate between June 2, 2012 and January 31, 2013.
If your notebook is was NOT purchased between June 2, 2012 and January 31, 2013 you will not be able to upgrade Win 7 to Win 8 but you will need to purchase the full Win 8 version.
The key would be supplied by Microsoft via mail.

  • Product Key and Phone-in Windows Validation

Hello I have installed Win10 Eval on two different computers,
the other day the first one decided to update itself to the latest version.
Upon completion, it started to ask for Windows Validation, so I did a search
to get the appropriate key and entered it with success using the "slui 3" command.
So  I decided to try the "slui 4" command and got the expected dial 800 # to automated phone support.
I called in and entered all the digits from all the boxes, and started to enter the valid codes in their A-G boxes,
except that there is supposed to be an H box, and there was none. I did this twice.
Even got the live person elevated phone support, they then transferred me to something called option 4 I think,
but the phone dialer didn't transfer the call properly, and the call was dropped.
Basically this is just to let you know that Box H was missing, but the dropped support call could be an issue as well.
I love the way the latest build installs straight from the disk, clean.
I also think that it comes off as very intuitive even as its installing, no more boring status bars, praying for it to reach the other side!!
    Keep up the great work!!
Thanks for the opportunity to help.
    Ant

.................ok so on the clean install, it seems to have activated itself without asking for the key entry.
That is the way it should be. By default, it is supposed to activate automatically. Only in rare circumstance one would be asked to enter the product key.
................is there any way to prevent it from doing it.
I'm sorry. I don't understand the question. Preventing it to do What ?
Prevent it from asking to activate ? If yes, like I said, it is supposed to get activated automatically.
................I will try again just to be sure.
You find enjoyment installing, don't you ? 2 hours of installing is not my cup of tea.
    Well, enjoy.

  • Office 2013: can't retrieve the Product Key via Belarc Advisor

    Hi,
Isn't it possible anymore to retrieve the Office Product Key installed on a computer via third party inventory software such as Belarc Advisor? I used to do that to see the Microsoft Office Product Key installed on a computer for previous Office versions.
However, I tried with a computer where Office 2013 Home and Business is installed and Belarc Advisor didn't show its Product Key. Is it due to the new license management that consists of linking it to a Microsoft account and only entering the account credentials
during the installation process instead of the Product Key? Isn't the Product Key stored somewhere on the computer anymore?

    Hi,
Thanks for your answer although it's a typical half useless reply from an official Microsoft staff...
Actually, I understand that Microsoft doesn't support third party software to retrieve a product key but my question was rather technical and driven by curiosity rather by the need of retrieving the product key. Indeed, I took over a computer park in a company
and I'm performing an IT inventory. During this inventory, I retrieve Windows and Office Product Key. The licenses are genuine but since I'm not the one who purchased and installed these computer, I don't know them. Therefore, a simple solution is to use inventory
software such as Belarc Advisor. But I noticed that it can't retrieve Office 2013 Product Key anymore whereas it was able with previous versions of Office.
So to reformulate the question: isn't the Product Key stored somewhere locally on the computer anymore with Office 2013? Because if no, that would explain why third party software can't retrieve it anymore.
My question is rather technical about the new way of managing Product Key with Office 2013 and driven by curiosity. So I don't need any official technical assistance.
    Thanks

  • Can I install Linux and then use the original Windows 8 OEM product key for a virtual machine on the same computer?

I have ordered a new laptop and expect to receive it in 2-3 weeks.  The laptop comes with an OEM version of Windows 8 installed.  I wish
to install Linux as the host operating system and create a virtual machine running Windows 8.  Can I legally use the product key from the OEM installation to activate a virtual machine that will only be used on the laptop that had the original OEM installation?
If so, what is the procedure to activate the copy installed on the virtual machine?
This question has been addressed for Windows 7, but my searches did not reveal this question posed for Windows 8.

Technically, no.  The OEM is licensed only for the physical hardware on the system.  It isn't licensed for virtual hardware.
You may find you're unable to activate your OEM license in the VM.  A lot of OEM Windows look for specific hardware to verify they're being installed on the correct hardware.
    Although here: http://www.microsoft.com/oem/en/Pages/support-faq.aspx#fbid=Zh0SiBdas5I
    Q. Can I install OEM on a virtual machine (VMware)?
    A. You may install OEM in a virtual environment as long as you have a separate license for each instance of the software. It is fine to use the OEM version as long as it is properly licensed. To be clear, a separate version of software must be installed
for both the “standard” and “virtual” installations.
You still may not be able to activate if there is a hardware block.
The best place to ask this is to Microsoft licensing, any response you get here, including mine, won't hold up since it's not an official answer.

  • Unable to recover Sleekbook 14 from 8.1 issues due to no recovery disk (USB) or product key.

I have a Sleekbook 14 b109 purchased from an ebay reseller preloaded with windows 8.1.  Window 8.1 Update has caused many of my preloaded apps to stop working.  By utilizing information from the forums, I got the store app working, but most others still don't work.  Strangely Office 365 continues to work great.  Refresh also does not work. So, I have come to believe I need to restore/reset the PC.
But, I failed to create a 8.1 restore USB (no DVD) after I got the system.  I also have been unable to find the product key for my windows software. Even if I had the product key, I wouldn't want to create the recovery media now because of the state of the software.  So my question is, what are my options?
Probably the easiest would be to purchase a download version of windows 8.1, reload the PC, and create a recovery  USB.  Once that is complete, I could attempt windows 8.1 update again.  At that point if it messed up again, I would have everything I needed to recover.  Looking for suggestions.  Thanks in advance.

  • I had windows 8.1 but want to go back to windows 8 with clean install"the product key entered does not match any of the windows image available"

I had windows 8.1 and wanted to revert to windows 8 so i by mistake formatted the c:/ drive containing os and now when i try to install windows 8 i get the error "The product key entered..."
And i dont even have recovery image in my pc. I am using a dell laptop and i have windows 8 dvd given by dell which reads" windows 8 recovery media for windows product"
    Please guide me asap.

OEM keys are embedded on hardware, you might not need to enter the key in your case. I would suggest you to call Dell support here.

  • Do i need a product key for windows 7 to make a partition on my iMac?

I want to borrow a Windows 7 install CD off my friend to make a windows partition on my
iMac 2008. Do i need an unused product key with that CD or can the same key be used more than once? The CD in question has been used once before to install the system onto my firend's laptop, but its not an upgrade CD. Thanks in advance. Tom.

Wrong forum, depending on how you are installing (Boot Camp, Parallels, Fusion etc) you need to  post on one of those forums. I'm guessing you may be using Bootcamp, that link is
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp
Good luck. BTW you may want to consider buying  your own license of Windows.

  • Windows 8.1 recovery without recovery disc or product key

    Hey!
I own a HP g6-2207sg. After windows 8.1 upgrade and a new set of AMD drivers windows is not starting anymore.
Not in safe mode, not with different starting settings. Recovery points are not working, from 3 restore points (2 automatic 1 critical update (win8.1)) none is working.
I can neither refresh nor reset windows, nor can windows repair the startup (it fails as well).
I dont have my win8 product key, as it is not in or on the g6 and i never read it out when the laptop was still working.
I tried reading it out with the help of several 3rd party tools through command prompt, started from a usb stick, which is not working as there are windows functions missing.
I cant download a fresh .iso of win 8 from windows itself as i dont have the key.
Please help, i dont know what to do anymore and i need my computer for work.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
The Windows 8 Image source does have a download limit in place, but it will usually work if you keep trying for a couple of hours.  The key will be automatically read from the bios during installation.
I'm not aware of any way you can decipher the encrypted key via the command shell - only from reading its entry from the registry.
Unfortunayely, as with previous operating systems, neither Microsoft or HP will have any record of this key.
Another option would be to order a replacement set of Recovery Discs starting on the link below.
    Order HP Recovery Discs.
If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.

  • Obtaining windows 8 product key on 8.1 preview laptop

    Hello all,
This requires a bit of explanation, so bear with me.
I recently bought a refurbished Lenovo Ideapad y500 and it has been having some wireless card issues. Upon restarting the wireless card one morning to connect to the internet the laptop froze. Upon restart I ran into the infinite "This pc ran into a problem" error loop that eventually led to me having to reinstall windows. Since this was a refurbished product I used 8.1 preview ISO as a temporary install.
Now that 8.1 is fully released I would like to install it on this laptop, but I do not have a product key, nor do I have windows 8 still intact on this laptop to revert back to (as far as I can tell) for the free update. I've heard that the product key may be stored in the bios somehow. If this is the case, how would I access this? Would this product key allow me to update to windows 8.1? Or am I totally screwed and have to buy a copy of 8.1?
Any help with this SNAFU would be infinitely appreciated.

    Hi bfrank72,
Windows 8.1 update is an update from Windows 8, not 8.1 preview, so you would have to have Windows 8 installed first in order to update 8.1, in order for 8.1 to activate.
In other words, if you installed 8.1 preview as a clean install and want to update the preview to the full version of 8.1, yes, you would have to buy a license.
Sounds like you need a set of Windows 8 restore discs from Lenovo.

  • Windows 8 not picking up embedded product key when installed with WDS

Ok so here is my setup.

the Windows 8 image is a vanilla boot.wim and install.wim imported from a system builder iso.
If I burn the ISO or extract it onto a USB drive, then the install process picks up the embedded Windows product keys no problem.
If I deploy the same thing via WDS, the setup wizard asks for the keys, ergo, is not picking them up from the UEFI firmware. Is this an inherent limitation of WDS or am I doing something wrong?
