Product Positioning Essbase/Analyzer versus Hyperion Intelligence

We have both Analyzer and Intelligence as well as Essbase. We are in the process of defining standards as to when each tool or combination of tools would be utilized as a solution. The tools overlap a bit, so I am seeking assistance. Please help!!

I was just reading Analyzer 7.0 Administrator's Guide which has a pretty detailed description of what is needed to be done for Analyzer. It also references the common file used in the setup, so I expect that there is similar documentation in the current release of Essbase.I've been looking forward to implementing this for a number of years as Hyperion has moved slowly. Now it looks like this fall, I'll be able to use external authentication for Essbase and Analyzer.

  • Refreshing Analyzer View on Intelligence Dashboard

We are on version 8.3.2, sp3 of Hyperion Intelligence and Foundation. Therefore, we don't have an integrated environment that includes Essbase and Analyzer. Having said that, is there a way to (for example) choose a limit from a dropdown on a dashboard page and have it refresh a chart built in Intelligence and refresh the embedded browser view on the same page (embedded browser uses Analyzer against Essbase). I'm not sure how we would log the user into Analyzer as the first step.<BR><BR>I know there is a "Point of View" component built into the Dashboard building tool that does this type of thing, but it appears to only be application to integrated System9/foundation environments.<BR><BR>If anybody has any experience and can share a bqy or give some feedback, I would appreciate it.<BR><BR>Brooks

    Hi.
    1. Put Analyzer in design mode, then double click on any object to open up the property screen.  Disable the AutoFit on the "general" tab will stop the Analyzer from dynamically resizing the cells.
    2. The feature you're looking for is also in the property screen under the tab called "clipping".

  • Automating Essbase clustering using Hyperion Provider Services

    Hi
I am testing Essbase clustering using Hyperion Provider Services for high availability of cubes. I have created an Essbase cluster and added cubes to it using EAS. Since cubes get update during interday, I want to add/remove cubes from the cluster. I could do this process manually in EAS but prefer if I can automate this process. I was told that I could use either JAVA APIs (prefer) or XMLA to automate adding & removing cubes to/from the Essbase cluster. Unfortunately, I cannot find any documentation that mentions the names of the JAVA APIs that I should call to succeed this process. Could anybody help me please?
    Regards
    Chandra

    Hi,
Assuming you are on V11 then if you have a look in \Hyperion\products\Essbase\aps\samples\japi and there is java example of creating clusters :- CreateCluster.java
Java API docs available in \Hyperion\products\Essbase\aps\docs\japistart.htm
If you are on an earlier version then the directory structure will be a little different.
    Cheers

    Hi John,
    Thanks for the reply.
Actually i have written big reply to u with explaining about the issue. But at the writing reply only, i got an idea to resolve this.
Now i am able to run the Model successfully.
Yes, you are correct. Due to invalid credentials only i am getting this error.
I want to ask you one thing. Actually, at the time configuration i gave password as a password, then my manager wants to change that password to Gxxx@123!
I have changed that password, it is working fine to connect workspace, easconsole and all.
But the issue i seen in creating DataSource(In planning), i am getting error with new password in the Essbase server datails. If i give old password(as password), it is working fine.
So, How can get that new password to work here??
In ODI also, it is the issue. When i am using New password it is not working. With Old password it is working fine.
    Thanks,
    mady

  • Is DB2/400 support for Hyperion Intelligence?

Has anyone tested connecting DB2/400 via Hyperion Intelliigence?

    Regards.

It should work fine. You would just need to install the IBM iSeries Access ODBC drivers on the machine where you are using Hyperion Intelligence.

  • Hyperion Intelligence & Oracle Portal

Seeking a methodology, white paper or reference account that descibes how to reveal a Hyperion Intelligence(Brio) report in an Oracle Portal.

You may want to use ssoxoid.pkb package that comes with Portal/Login Server 3.0.9 which simplifies the configuration.
Also, you will not have to run the external procdure listener. Please refer to the Login Server Admin. guide for more details.
    NOTE:
the 3.0.9.8.0 version of ssoxoid.pkb is not good. You need to download 3.0.9.8.2 patch and get the ssoxoid.pkb file from there.
Also, you may want to turn on debug for SSO Server to see debug msg.
    DEBUG

You need to loginto the Login Server schema and run following commands to see debug msg.
    sqlplus portal30_sso/password
    TO TURN ON DEBUG

  • Easier way to scroll with Hyperion Intelligence Explorer

I'm using Hyperion Intelligence Explorer 8.3 on Windows XP/SP3.
When I am looking at a .bqy report that is more than a page long there is a scroll bar on the right.
The only way I have found to scroll through the pages is to grab the slider with my mouse and move it up or down.
Is there some other way I can scroll? Most applications allow the use of the PgUp and PgDn buttons.
Which would be great. Many applications allow scrolling through the scroll wheel on the mouse.
That would be wonderful as well. Is there any way to enable something like that in Hyperion Intelligence Explorer?
Thanks for any help or advice!

Yes, that's the way I use it. Given this terrible limitation I don't think there is any better. Also in case you don't know you can assess this font menu by right clicking on the selected text object and choosing Font from the popup menu.
@Wade, I envy you for the size of the font menu on the Control bar Adobe is giving you . See how how much they are giving to me with CS5 on Windows. The image is a screenshot of my entire screen showing all available space. But they've made the menu with a fixed size containing only ten fonts, so even paging it is driving me crazy and I never use this menu.

  • BEx Analyzer versus BEx Web Analyzer and BIA performance

    Hi Experts,
Recently I tested the performance of a few of our queries running off Infocubes with indexes loaded to the BIA and I noticed some differences in performance when using BEx Web Analyzer versus BEx Analyzer in Excel.  Seems that when using the Web Analyzer the query returned the result at a much faster rate than when using BEx Analyzer in Excel.  I did notice that the slow point in Excel is at the "Formatting Results Areas" stage.  This can take up a long time to complete.  My question is, does anyone else experience this?  What could be the cause?  Is this normal behaviour?  Any recommendation to solve this?
    Thanks very much.

    Hi David,
Yes, Excel-based BEx Analyzer is almost always slower then Web (and especially on 3.x tools), and it has not much to BIA.
For web - formatting is happening on  the BI server and then result is transferred to end-user machine in one shot (or as many shots as individual MIMEs to transfer). For Excel - first you have a transfer of data set to your PC (that might require several round-trips) and then formatting is all on the PC.
    Possible ways to improve:
    1) Check that your anti-virus does not impact opening excel workbook
    2) Upgrade PC hardware (absolutely seriously)
    3) Switch off formatting of workbook or at least remove exceptions and total/subtotal lines.

  • Essbase/ Analyzer 5.0.x server setup/ thin client access

Hi all,We are in the process of implementing Analyzer/ Essbase in our company, and would like to have it spread throughout the enterprise. We are very new to this and somewhat inexperienced. We would definitely like to use thin client for Analyzeer, b/c of the many different departments/ # of users, and to plan for future growth. We are currently using Essbase v. 6.1.4 and would like to use Analyzer to view the data, along with reports creation. The server is configured as follows:c: (OS,Hyperion software)-4GB NT4 sp6a128 d: (index) 10 GB e: (data) 80-100 Gb We have plenty of disk space and memory. Can anyone, from experience, please assist me wih config. recommendations- hardware, and software, along with virtual memory, IIS config? I have read the manuals, but would like to hear from users with real-life experience. Thank you in advance- any input is greatly appreciated. Take care...

If you are going to use the web based Analyzer, you may want to consider 6.0. I do not believe Analyzer 5.0 web client has all the functionality of 5.0 windows client. Analyzer 6.0 web addresses this issue. As for installation, because of some of the web application setup complexities, we had a Hyperion consultant install it for us. We are using Oracle 8.1.7 as the respository and IIS as our web server.Hope this helps.Patrick DeKenippBusiness Systems AnalystEstee Lauder [email protected]

Have you tried restarting the services and giving it a try?
Which version of Essbase/Planning are you on?
If your Essbase server name has more than 30 characters, please use NODENAME with short server name.
