Product red(o) -- a note to all ipod buyers with big hearts.

If you are like me, you will seize the opportunity to buy yourself a cool new ipod AND give to charity. It's a win-win situation, right? Wrong! Had I made the purchase in a retail store (so very 1990's) I would have known better. But instead I placed the order online. To be fair, the thing is a true miracle of ipod technology .... alas, it is also the ugliest ipod ever.
No I am not whining about the new proportions or rounded edges. Frankly I love the design through and through. The problem is the color. This so called "red" ipod is more of a scarlet color. It resembles the deep raspberry you might expect from a Kate Spade bag. So girls who are into that may find true joy from the new color. But it is an unfortunate problem to have your token charity piece be modeled after the tastes of a small segment of the population.
And so here is the dilemna. Do you keep the ugly little beast, give it to your wife/daughter/sister/mother, or return it for a black one (and thus go to **** for not saving Africa from AIDS). Isn't Apple supposed to make it easy to be a consumer? Jesus, they really missed the mark here!
Love,
Sheila E

Some people made comments on black providing better contrast for video playback. I must tell you 2 things to think about. First, the so-called "red" ipod provides excellent contrast for video. There is no distraction of lessening of contrast created by the color. Second, take a look in person at the black one before you jump on it. The black is dull and shimmery. Almost has a charcoal grey feel to it. If anything, it reminds me of a TV that produces poor quality black bars for a letterbox movie. Just beware that it is different looking than previous black ipods. For my money, I would probably say the colors that will look the best on this new generation of nano are minty green and silver. Then blue and black. Then red. Unless your shorts say JUICY on the butt, in which case red might be first pick.

I did not sync my iPod Touch with iTunes and I have forgotten my password and now it is locked.  I have the recovery mode screen at "conect to iTunes", but iTunes is not recognizing it.  How do I unlock it?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • Brand "product red" nano will not show up in i-tunes

i have already been a nano user.
i bought the ipod 1 gig and never had any problems with it.
this year for chistmas my cousin got a new blue ipod nano.
she wanted to use my computer to take some songs- i had to download new (latest) itunes version for her new ipod.
even with the new version my own nano still worked.
i bought a new nano - the product red nano- over the internet through the apple store.
i plugged it to my computer thinking it would require usual walk through set up (name your ipod ,etc)
in itunes it doesnt even show the ipod as being connected.
THIS NANO IS BRAND NEW OUT OF BOX!!!!!!! WHY ISNT IS WORKING!!!
ANY FEEDBACK OR SHOULD I JUST GO THE APPLE STORE?

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
Then try with the iPod in forced disk mode.

  • Note to all: Ipod returns

If anyone is returning their ipods, ipod mini due to hardware defects, problems etc... to residents in Canada or anyone else there is a 3 weeks minimum wait on ipods that are engraved, or need to be re-engraved after being personalized when purchased and need to be changed when going under warranty work, since you get a whole new ipod anyways... Therefore,a note to all there is wait on ipod returns, so if you are thinking about returing your ipod, and you can wait, and have a little or more warranty time left. I suggest to wait a few more weeks, (after Christmas) since that is the problem with all the back orders, Chritsmas. I myself did no wait, and I wanted to get it repaired now, but just to let you all know there is a wait on ipod returns this time of year...

Ps: If you have any questions I might be able to answer them since I asked alot of questiosn about the whole return thing, but if not call apple. For US: 1-800-275-2273, or for Canada: 1-800-263-3394. or go online www.apple.com/support.

  • How do I access notes on an iPod Touch with a broken home button?

Hey guy, I have an older iPod Touch, and I am trying to gain access to about 800 quotes I had in the notes. The iPod let me get the first (latest) four, then blacked and exited the notes app. Now, it will no longer work, unless I try to add a  new note.  The home button is no longer working correctly, so I cannot reset it. Is there any way I can get Apple to email the quotes or something? I still have access to the settings, so I know version, model, serial number and all that. Any suggestions?

    - Maybe you can extract them from the backup
iPhone Backup Extractor for Windows and Mac
    - Restore another iPod, iPad or iPhone from your backup. Maybe Apple can do that at one of their Genius Bar
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Apple does not have them so they can't email them to you

  • Are all Ipods compatible with Imac 2007?

We are trying to get a new ipod and don't really care what gen it is. We just want to know it'll work with our comp.

Yes, if the iMac is running a new enough Mac OS X version to support it; Mac OS X 10.6.8 can sync with all iPods that have been released up to now.

  • HT5637 My Ipod Touch 4 with IOS 6.1.5 (new to me) is not associating all my albums with the artists.  All the music is there, it's just not in the right place.  Can you help an Apple novice?

I'm new to this so please forgive me if I'm not using the correct terms.  My ITunes version is 11.1.3.8.  For years I had an IPod Classic and it worked perfectly with all my music where I wanted it.  Unfortunately, it was recently stolen.  I bought a used/wiped clean 64GB IPod Touch 4 loaded with iOS 6.1.5.  I've tried to load my music twice and both times I'm getting the same odd results  While everything is properly associated in ITunes once I load and sync the IPod Touch there are several albums that are not associated with the Artist.  I'll explain further.  I prefer to sort my ITunes library and IPod by Artist.  So when I pull up some (not all) Artists on my IPod Touch some Albums that should be there are missing.  I say they are missing, they are there.  The total song count on ITunes matches that on the IPod Touch and if I sort by Album name, I can find the album that does not appear when I sort by Artist.  The reason I want to fix this issue is I appreciate a wide variety of music and I can envision me looking for an artist and not finding them and not being able to remember the name of the album.  The Rolling Stones are easy and I know how many albums they have an how many I have.  Smaller groups that may have only one album are more problematic.  Unless I randomly come accross the song I might never be able to find it or listen to it.  I know lots of people have more music than I do so I'm not bragging, but my library has 414 different artists spread across 1402 albums and I can't always remember what I own.  Speaking of owning, I own the physical CDs for the vast majority of my music so I don't think it's a situation of previously ripped music not showing up or not being formatted correctly.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hey there jcgoutcher!
I believe your iPod may be set to group albums by album artist, which is a setting that can be turned off in your music settings. I will provide a link below that can help illustrate where to find this setting:
    Music settings - iPhone
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/#/iphf2d8534c
While the article in the link above is written for the iPhone, the setting will be found in the same place on your iPod touch. Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!
    Cheers,
    Braden

  • Not recognizing all iPods in library

My computer hard drive is full, so I moved iTunes to a WD 1TB external drive. I had been keeping my backup library, which is about 250GB, on this external drive for the past year. I read anything I could find on running iTunes from an external, watched the YouTube walkthroughs--thought I was good to go. Moved it,delted it from my computer, but files on external somehow were corrupted. Thankfully I had a backup of the backup on a smaller external, so I put the library back on my computer. My 3 nanos sync fine--like nothing ever happened. My Touch syncs fine also. My sister's Classic is fine also. But my iPhone and 8 shuffles (I love the little things)--no way. Playlists and songs are sorta "greyed out." I get a message saying it was synced to another library.
Help? I'm stumped. First, I can't delete anything on the WD external. It's as if it were frozen. Second, why do some iPods sync and others won't? It's the same music . . . .
    Thanks--

    Then...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • New library, old Ipod. How to not loose all Ipod content......

    Hi,
I had to format my computer and lost all data. I thought I would just sync my Ipod from Ipod to computer and be done with it.
Well, it didn't work. For some reason I can't seem to get the songs from my iPod in my iTunes library.
Another thought was to just pull the songs from the Ipod onto my computer and then from there into my Itunes library, but I only see 4 folders (foto's, notes, etc) i can't see the MP3's Any reason why.
Hope anyone can help me with this.

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

  • Purchased itunes music will not copy to ipod touch with windows

I'm helping out a neighbor. They just got an ipod touch and when they set up the itunes they were able to transfer some music but when they purchased music from itunes and tried putting it on the ipod it won't go. Now no music will copy to the ipod. Does anyone know that they should do? I'm not much of a PC person but I think if I can get some direction I can help them out.

If the non-syning ones play in iTunes on the coputer:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Iphone 4s will not sync all contact information with outlook. Street Addresses will not sync.  Is there a fix?

This is the only forum I had access to post, so I apologize if my question is not relative.  Hopefully some kind soul will have an answer for me.

Thanks Randers4. You are right - I neglected to tell all the stuff I've tried. I did as you suggested about resetting the sync history - I even closed and reopened everything, and tried syncing with Outlook open, and then closed. The only change is it did download (sync) one new calendar event I added to my Outlook calendar and it put it on my iphone calendar, but it did NOT put my new iphone calendar items on my Outlook calendar. Not sure what else to try!

  • A lot of things not working when iPod Sleeps with Firmware 2.2

Anyone else had this problem, or know of any workarounds? Things like the MPR radio, aSleep, WhiteNoise, and BinauralBeat are shutting off when the ipod screen is off, and turn back on as soon as i press the button again (no unlock swipe required) Basically they're only on while the backlight is on. It seems like my other apps work though, such as Pandora, and AOL radio, so i dont know if its just something that the others will need to update or what i guess. Anyone else having problems like this though?

i would expect u will see some app updates to correct the problem, rather than apple creating yet another "fix". Anytime there are OS updates, expect some glitches with some apps. Hopefully your fav apps will be updated very soon.
