Product Structure Synchronzation-SAP PLM 7.02
Hello All
I need some clarification on PSS.
I have already created the M-BOM by synch' of Product variant in PSM.
The Synch Unit has the status aligned and also M-BOM is created.
Now there are some changes made in the items of the assembly used in the product variants.
1. Can I now re-run the existing synch unit so that the changes are reflected in the M-BOM
or is that I need to create new synch unit for the changes to be reflected with alternative number for the same M-BOM.
Prompt reply will be highly appreciated as I need to resolve this issue ASAP.
Cheers
Satish
Hi,
Has the assembly below the product variant been synchronized?
If yes, then of course leveraging the existing sync unit is the standard behavior.

SAP PLM, ERP, PPM relationships
Hi PLM experts,
I have some questions about the SAP PLM products as below, would you share your insights? Thanks.
1. Most of PLM sub-modules are the functions of SAP ECC components as I see. So what's the relationship between SAP PLM and SAP ECC?
2. SAP PLM can be installed as an independent instance or as an integrated instance with SAP ECC as I read from document. Is it correct?
3. I read SAP PPM can be installed as an independent instance as well, what's PPM relationship to SAP PLM?
4. Most PLM user interface is using Web UI. Is it based ABAP webdynpro or Java webdynpro? Someone told me it's based on FPM framework in ABAP wedynpro. If you know, please share me your idea as well.
5. Any workflow function in SAP PLM? If user requires workflow to manage R&D process in SAP PLM, is it using similar ABAP workflow technology as in SAP ECC? Or java-based workflow as in BPM?
Appreciate your expert share.Hi Justin,
see responses below:
1. Most of PLM sub-modules are the functions of SAP ECC components as I see. So what's the relationship between SAP PLM and SAP ECC?
SAP PLM capabilities are an integral part of SAP ECC, some are natively available like SAP GUI based BOM Management, Classification, Variant Configuration, Engineeering Change Management, etc., some , especially those in the PLM Web UI, need to be activated through Business Functions made available in various standard SAP ECC Enhancement Packages and partially licensed, like e.g. Engineering Record, Product Structure Synchronization, Access Control Management.
2. SAP PLM can be installed as an independent instance or as an integrated instance with SAP ECC as I read from document. Is it correct?
Yes.
3. I read SAP PPM can be installed as an independent instance as well, what's PPM relationship to SAP PLM?
SAP PPM is a a standalone product with its own license. It integrates into SAP ERP/PLM and other legacy and Business Suite solutions.
4. Most PLM user interface is using Web UI. Is it based ABAP webdynpro or Java webdynpro? Someone told me it's based on FPM framework in ABAP wedynpro. If you know, please share me your idea as well.
PLM Web UI is ABAP WebDynpro. And yes, it uses Floor Plan Manager.
5. Any workflow function in SAP PLM? If user requires workflow to manage R&D process in SAP PLM, is it using similar ABAP workflow technology as in SAP ECC? Or java-based workflow as in BPM?
SAP Business Workflow is leveraged in SAP PLM. Anyone can feel free to use SAP BPM as well, especially if workflows are crossing applications, and need to be orchestrated accordingly.
Hope this helps.

Can any body tell me about sap-plm from technical point of view
In sap-plm from the development point of view what abapers task
Hi Prasoon,
PLM very wide area but from ABAP point of view it depends which area you are working on, like it includes Bill of Materials, Document Management System, Classifications, Product Structure Browser, Engineering Change Mangement, etc within R/3 and apart from this it even includes Project System
on Web application Systems it includes Collaboration Projects & Collaboration Folders.
ABAP work comes for enhancements, Functional Modules, User Exists, Feild Exists, Interfaces(RFC) for CAD Integrations etc, & Reports like ALV etc.
It Depends which part of PLM you are working on & what is the requirement where in ABAP development is required so in general it is difficult to answer this question but for any particular/specific requirements anybody will answer.
Hope you might have got the fair idea of PLM

Hi Guys
I am have working on PDM(Team center), VPM(Enovia DPM) and Catia V5 since 2 years now and I am planning to change to SAP PLM. Can any one help me Do i need to Have knowledge in any other things other then PDM, VPM to start up with SAP PLM.
If I want to take p my certification in SAP PLM where can i get it,( Do i need to contact Siemens for it or i can try with some other place)
Your help will be Appreciated
PradeepHi Pradeep,
1.As you have worked in PDM (Team Center), and other CAD packages, you will be knowing the Functional processes/activities involved in the PLM which is very much required to learn and give solutions in SAP PLM.
2. As you must have worked with BOM, Documents, workflows, Organizational hierarchies, Roles & Responsibilities (Draftsmen, Junior/Assist Design Engineer, Design Engineer, Project Manager etc etc) and their authorizations.
3. So with these things it is very easy to learn & work with SAP PLM, if you are currently working in non-sap or any functional domain, you can join any SAP implementation company as a Trainee or Fresher and get trained on SAP
or there are many training institutes which train SAP even for 25-30K without certification. (You will get a fare idea about what SAP is )
Even SAP PLM starts with PDM Objects like, Material Master, Document Managment System, Engineering Change Managment (Versioning/Revisioning for BOM, MM, DIR), Bill of Materials, Classification System (Classes, Characteristics, Object Dependencies etc) all this are PDM Objects in SAP.
And there is Collaboration Projects, Collabortion Folders and CAD Integrations. etc these all together constitutes a SAP PLM
For Certification on SAP PLM below mentioned are details. and follow the link as well

New to SAP PLM ( I need advice pls)
Hi,
I will appreciate some advice please.
I'm interested in SAP and plan to gain certification in SAP PLM (Project Management Modules), but I've not got any SAP experience. I've got under 3yrs experience in Project Administrator, Support and Coordinator type roles, got my Certification in PRINCE 2 Practitioner level, Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) Practitioner level, PPSO and ITIL foundation level.
Where will you advice I place myself looking for a SAP role, Iu2019m not looking to get a consultancy type role or anything like that, just something that will get me into the SAP career path with my project background.
Also is SAP PLM the best or only focus for me given my Project background?
Finally, any advice on companies that will consider someone with my profile?
Thanks,
FumiHi Fumi

Organizational structure of SAP
I would like to know the ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE IN SAP.Plz send me ASAP.Thanks in advance.</b>Regards
RajHi,
The organizational structure in SAP looks like this:
CLIENT = GROUP
_______________|________________
COMPANY CODE COMPANY CODE
_____________|________________
PLANT PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT
The definition of client and company code stands as follows:
<b>Client (Cross Application)</b>A client in R/3 is a technical entity containing configuration, master data and transactions for an organization. For example the organization may designate Client 100 in the production system PRD as the client in which data may be entered. Other clients may be used for development, testing and training.
<b>Company Code</b>
The Company Code is the smallest organizational unit for which a complete self-contained set of accounts can be drawn up for purposes of external reporting.
Please feel free to reverse back.

Difference between SAP PM & SAP PLM
Hi All,
I wanted to know about the difference between SAP PM, SAP PLM & SAP EAM(Enterprise Asset Management)
What business purpose SAP PLM serves & is SAP PLM an ECC component or separate product such as CRM/SRM ?
Please anyone let me know .
Thanks in advance .
rgdsHi,
the difference between PLM and PM is the following:
PM is a SAP component for plant maintenance in which you can plan and maintain equipments, work centers and materials that need regular checking.
PLM is the product lifecycle management in which various SAP components are involved see the thread [PLM forum|PLM Forum;. PLM defines the process of a product from its creation to its end, where as this can be seen as a cyclic process because the end of a product can lead to a new product that evolves from the original product and in which knowledge gained from the various steps in PLM is involved.
I hope that this replies your question.

hi guru.
in sap plm projects is this necessary , to generate the reports, scripts.
what is exactly sap plm projects, give some idea briefly.because just recently
i got offer for working in sap plm development projects.
help me.
thanks& regards
subhasisHi Subhasis,
Are you a Technical/Functional i.e. ABAP/Functional please let me know?
If you are a Technical (ABAP) then you no need to worry about your work in PLM
your work remains same as of ABAP. i.e. you will be working on Function Modules, User Exits, Field Exits, Report Design, Scripts & enhancements etc.
The Objects/Area which you will be dealing are : Document Managment System (DMS), Engineering Change Management (ECM), & CAD Integration yes i forget to mentioned you will be working on "Interfaces" too. and rest in PS or CProjects & CFolders based on the Scenarios/Requirements of your Project.
If you are a Functional:
Then working in PLM is still easy if you have a experience of working in SAP,
First part of your PLM is PDM (Product Data Managment) which deals with
DMS, ECM, CAD Integration, Material Master, BOM etc
Basically you have to integrate all these objects or business objects precicely speaking to all the modules of the SAP R/3.
Welcome to the board.
If you have any specific questions, you can write at SDN, SDN team will help you at maximum, no need to worry.
Best Regards

Hi All,
I have 11 years of experience in Enovia PLM (java based PLM tool) and has good understanding of Engineering Management, Product configuration and Product portfolio management.
I want to improve breadth of my knowledge and want to learn SAP PLM
Can any of you guide me where to start.
I am currently at Atlanta GA USA Are there any good online training institutes.
Also please let me know good websites to learn about SAP PLM
Thanks & Regards
MuraliHi Murali,
There are different ways you can learn SAP PLM:
1) Easy but costly way is through attending cources run by different SAP Authorized Training Centers. By Training route u will get proper step by step guidance on different PLM functions, but it will have some impact on your pocket.
2) You can read SAP Help available online. But trust me without assistance its like learning greek.
3) There are different Presentations available on internet made by consultant for their customer. It would be great first step towards excellence.
Mentioned above are few ways by which you can learn SAP PLM, however the time & understanding level totally depend upon your will to get mastered into it.
Thanks & Regards

Hi All,
What is the Org structure in SAP SNC???
Thanks
Best Regards,
SanjayHi Sanjay
>If one R/3 location is CIFed to SNC what it will become in SNC??
Each Supply Chain units in R/3 like Plant,Vendor,Customer,Supplier etc are handled as locations in SAP SNC or SAP SCM
Lets say a Plant XYZ is refered as location XYZ of type 1001 in SAP SNC
Go to transaction in SAP SNC /SAPAPO/LOC3 - Location
You will see field Location Type :
1001 Production Plant
1002 Distribution Center
1007 Storage Location MRP Area
1010 Customer
1011 Vendor
Basically in SAP SNC/SCM all these are locations, where planning happens, to map them back to R/3, they differentiate these locations based on location type.
>What is the BP no. and what is the role of that location that CIFed Location??
BP no corresponds to the organizational unit.
This comes into picture, in order to share the internal application (SAP SNC owned by OEM-Original Equipment Manufacuturer) to thier supply chain members like customer, supplier and sub contractor
They brought this BP concept, where an external supply chain unit is defined as BP of type Organisation and the necessary users(internet users/persons) are created under it
Now the mapping happens in location master /SAPAPO/LOC3 in the field Business Partner Number
>Is it not having BP no.?? Is the Storage location not taken into picture in SNC???
Yes it can have the B.P no provided before cifing, you enable the option both
in cfm1 field Create Loc./BP
This is only available for vendors, customers
For plants you will have to create manually in SAP SNC and assign it in location master
Storage locations are not handled in SAP SNC, I think Nikhil already mentioned it

Configuration product lifecycle in sap
Hi,
Could you pls help me to get a configuration document for product life cycle in SAP?
Thanks,
VijeshHi,
I would recommend you have a look at the (cross-plant) material status and its related Customizing. This should help you with your product life-cycle status management:
http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_07/helpdata/en/ff/515dd249d811d182b80000e829fbfe/content.htm?frameset=/en/ff/515c2049d811d182b80000e829fbfe/frameset.htm¤t_toc=/en/ff/516a6749d811d182b80000e829fbfe/plain.htm&node_id=42
On top of that, you could leverage SAP PLM Web UI Status and Action Management for managing the status changes:
http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_07/helpdata/en/f9/8ceb3db76a401bac4c456d718d0f46/frameset.htm
For additional governance, Engineering Change Management might be applied.

Product hierarcy in SAP Retail?
Hi,
I have heard that there is a possibility to have more then one product hierarcy in SAP Retail.
The std hierarcy (created in OVSV) is used for financial follow up but we need the possibility to have another hierercy for presenting the products to the customers in a structured way. I have herad that there are such possibilities in SAP Retail, but I cant find them.
Pls tell me if it is possible and also how I go about.
Thanks,
EmmaHi Emma,
In SAP IS Retail, if you wish to use hierarchy for presenting the products to the customers in a structured way. Then you can use either Article Hierarchy or Merchandise Category Hierarchy.
The Article Hierarchy in SAP ERP enables customers to structure goods based on customer-individual criteria. It is used in Planning, Operations and Reporting on different levels of aggregation.
Path:
Logistics --> Retailing --> Master Data > Article Hierarchy Data> Create (WMATGRP01)
Whereas merchandise categories mostly observe physical attributes of the goods the article hierarchy groups articles from a sales perspective.
Path:
Logistics --> Retailing --> Master Data --> Material Group Data --> Merchandise Category (WG21)
Logistics --> Retailing --> Master Data --> Material Group Data --> Merchandise Category Hierarchy Level (CLWM)
Hope it helps.

Anirban Roy
