Product update/upgrade policy by Adobe

Adobe is selling software with less validity than a yogurth: I bought the upgrade of Elements suite to version 8 in August this year and One and a half month later this product has expired because Adobe released version 9. Any decent company would provide me with a free upgrade, but this is no Adobe policy: they just care for the money.
So you can judge by yourselfs, here's the case story at Adobe support:

Just to let you know that I regret your dcision on this  matter.
I would just like to let you know that I consider, at least,  unethical to sell a piece of software with a validity of a pack of cook
ies  (one and a half month!!!).
Even though I now undestand why people use ilegal  software, I will not take this way, but I most certainly will stop using your  soft
ware and make shure that as many people as possible will know how Adobe  treats their clients.

Good afternoon Cathy,
Thank you very much for your  reply
I'm sorry but I don't understand what is the response you are  expecting from me. All I can say is:
1- I properly identified the order  number from the purchase in your store (#AD001971320PT), therefore, you know  that I bought the pr
oduct on 20/08/2010 from your online store.
2- I  don't know the release date of the new version. Even less what was the "team  determined eligibility period for complimentary up
grades" (I just can find  that information on your site).
Therefore, I would like you to tell me if  I'm "eligible for complimentary upgrade", or not.
Thank you for your help  and best regards,
Fernando

Hello,
Thank you for contacting Adobe.

upgrade. This policy applies whether you  purchased directly from Adobe
or from an authorized Adobe reseller. If you  purchased from a reseller,
you must provide valid proof of purchase. See  Valid proof of purchase

  • Leaving Adobe products because of upgrade policy

My spouse and I spent big bucks for the creative suite CS3 a few years ago and now cannot upgrade and need to buy new to get the latest version. OK we got a few years of use for our bucks but even if we had CS5 we could'nt upgrade! Wow!
And if we buy new now we will need to spend money again in 2 years or have to buy new again after that.
We are double-income-no-children and could afford to spend money on an upgrade. But we don't like feeling taken advantage of. We are not professional photographers, so this is pure discretionary spending.
My spouse already has Nikon Capture (we have the money to buy Nikon) and just downloaded Gimp which should be good enough for a hobby.
We will deal with a little less convenience and quality in the software rather than be insulted by obnoxious corporate behavior.
Inputting in the forum seemed to be the only way to communicate since the web site does not seem to favor user interaction exactly beyond what it wants.
You have lost us as customers.

Your advice could be useful if I wanted to invest in cloud computing but I just made the choice to invest in a PC tower with a graphic card. I don't feel comfortable with paying cloud computing yet. I love it for MOOCs. But it sort of makes you a permanent ($) client and your performance is hostage to what they want to give you in the cloud. The cloud is a technical achievement but it is also marketing.
For your info, I am not kidding about Gimp. Here is the Syllabus of a MOOC class I am enrolled in on Coursera, the median section being about Photoshop... or Gimp as an alternate (https://class.coursera.org/cdt208-001/wiki/view?page=syllabus). All exercises can be done with Gimp. I wanted the upgrade for HDR but Gimp has a plug-in for that. I don't know how well it works though.
Perhaps I will still buy Photoshop if I can get it at a competitive price, maybe through work. Of course Photoshop is better. I do think there is a valid point about the upgrade policy. Adobe is saying we have a monopoly. I'm an IT programmer not a pro photographer or graphic artist, so people like me count and it's my money.

  • I can't update any of my Adobe Products. I am using Photoshop CS5 extended version

The problem is when I open up Photoshop CS5 and go to Help > Updates. It then opens up the Adobe Application Manager. It lists Bridge CS5, Extension Manager CS5, Photoshop CS5 and Camera Raw available for updating. However when I click update, it downloads the updates (185.5mb) and then says "Some updates failed to install" which is all the products. It says "Please quit and try again" I have done this several times. I do not have any firewall or port blockers set up. This problem makes it so that I can't open up my Nikon D800 raw files because nothing is able to update to current versions.

I think the old update mechanism for CS5 is not working, so here's where to direct download the updates for CS5.

that's no longer available for download.  in addition, it's unlikely it would work on your mavericks os.
you could purchase pse 12 upgrade, Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 - Buying guide

  • Can anyone out there convince Adobe to stop including McAfee by default on its product updates?

Adding additional (new) software should be an "opt in" not an  "opt out".   This is irritating.  I don't always catch and uncheck that option during product updates (like Flash)

In a user to user forum, it's unlikely that you'll find anyone with any influence over such decisions.
The opt out link is undoubtedly the subject of a commercial agreement between McAfee and Adobe so I suspect it's there to stay until the agreement expires - whenever that may be.

  • CS5 to CC7: Adobe's Upgrade Policy

Yes, I know there is no CC7 yet, but I was reading about Adobe's upgrade policy and it seems that they've switched to a "one version back" model. When I read the terms, they talk about CS to CS versions, but they don't mention going from CS to CC.  Will I be able to go from CS5 to the next version of CC?

The Cloud subscription model (CC version) has no connection to the Creative Suite versions*.
CS6 is the last in the line of Creative Suites.
There will be no CS7. You can upgrade from CS5 to CS6 but that's the end of the line for upgrades.
    * CS3-CS6 owners are eligible for discounted pricing for their first 12 months of Cloud membership. After that, it's full price.

  • SCCM patches-Adobe product updates

I am looking for information on how to configure SCCM for Adobe product updates. I've been told that SCCM can only be used to deploy 'major' Adobe updates, i.e. Adobe Reader version 9 but not 9.1, 9.2, etc.  Is this true? I can't imagine that companies are updating their Adobe products (Shockwave player, Flashplayer, Reader) one computer at a time. If anyone can direct me to any technical resources on how to configure Adobe updates with SCCM, I'd appreciate it so I can work together with our Network Administrator to send out updates regularly.  Thank you.

    Hi,
SCCM 2007 is the next version of SMS(2003) and can be used for patch management also alongwith software distribution, operating system deployment, network access protection, and hardware and software inventory.
But it is recommended that you deploy the updates through SCUP/WSUS to SCCM. For that you need to setup a WSUS and SCUP along with SCCM server. WSUS is used to publish Microsoft updates to SCCM. For custom updates (from Independent S/W vendors) you need SCUP which will sync with WSUS and then the updates are available at SCCM.
You need to get the catalog for Acrobat/Reader and publish them through SCUP to WSUS. SCCM will sync the updates from WSUS. From SCCM the updates can be deployed to various clients.
    Thanks,
    Vinod

  • Disable\Remove "Check for Update" "Lightroom online" and "Adobe Product Improvement Program"

    Hi,
I wanted to confirm if it is possible to remove\Disbale the options like  "Check for Update" "Lightroom online" and "Adobe Product Improvement Program"
under help menu in adobe lightroom 5.3? I intend to deply this application and want these options to be unavailable for the User.
    Kindly suggest, Thanks.

So far as I know, the only way to make these features non-functioning is to detach the computer from the internet.

  • I can't use iTunes! (Accidentally exited apple product updater in the middle of iTunes upgrade)

So I was installing the most recent version of iTunes (11.1.3  or something) with the Apple Product Updater and it was taking forever to install. I decided to exit becuase I had other things to do in iTunes which had closed due to the installation process. To speed up the process I brought out Task Manager and just ended the task and it disappeared.
Now iTunes is gone from my normal app search and if I go into the C:// Drive I can open iTunes with the iTunes folder located there (it doesn't have some file that lets it communicate with my device) but the iTunes folder in C://Program Files is completely wiped and I don't have access to it even though I'm the administrator of my computer with all-access. I opened the properties of the folder and it's 0 bytes. I tried uninstalling it via Control Center but unfortunately it encountered the same problem; it said I needed access to the C://Program Files/iTunes folder.
There was a try again button but no option to override with administrative functions. I tried deleting the folder in the C://Program Files but I had no access. Is there ANY WAY out of the situation without a complete OS reset? Please help.
If you want I can provide images of anything you like.

Does this help anyone? Can anyone tell if anything's missing? Because for the moment the whole of iTunes is rendered unusable for me.

  • How to update group policy on MAC OS 10.6.8

    Hi,
I am not able to update group policy on MAC 10.6.8 like gpupdate comand from terminal.
    Regards
    Govind Singh

OK, makes sense. Any idea what the DMG preference should be in Firefox?
It was set to "Always Ask"
... and I changed it to "Use MacOS"
The funny thing is that all the other updates (these were Add On updates) that I ran downloaded the DMG file and it started right up. It is only the Adobe products (Acroread, Flash, ect) that are having troubles, and they all get the same error.
    BTW - Thanks for helping!
    NEW UPDATE:
Found /System/Library/CoreServices/DiskImageMounter.app and set the Firefox preferences DMG file to use that now.

  • Does the end of the year upgrade policy also include just Photoshop?

I understand CS3 and CS4 are eligible for upgrades to CS6 until the end of the year, but what about upgrading from PS4 to PS6? I normally upgrade to every version, but due to being layed up for 8 months with a knee injury money is extremely tight, so I was planning to wait and upgrade from CS4 to CS6. I heard about the new (now old) upgrade policy so I upgraded to CS5 a few days ago. Now I see that Adobe changed the upgrade policy again. Now I'm wondering if I can return CS5 and wait to upgrade to CS6 later in the year when I have more cash flow.

    Hi Coldrake
Yes, all CS3 and CS4 products, whether they're a suite or stand-alone product, like Photoshop, as a one-off arrangement this year only, can wait 'til December 31st 2012 to upgrade directly to CS6... of course, we don't know how much that will cost!
Thank you, pf22, that answers my question perfectly. I'd love to keep PS5, especially with the discount, but as I said, after being off work for so long, money is extremely tight at the moment and will be for the next couple of months.
Of course we also have the "Grace Period" coming up where you could purchase the CS5 upgrade and get CS6 for free
It looks like it's going to be a few months before PS6 will be coming out, so I may be able to swing that, thank you for an excellent suggestion.
Thank you Noel for covering all the bases! I don't have the suite, just Photoshop.
Thanks for both of your replies, they are greatly appreciated.

  • Unable to install updates nor exclusive features; Adobe Application Manager damaged?

I've acquired a Spanish student's subscription of Adobe Creative Cloud, and downloaded Photoshop CS6 Extended, Flash CS6 Professional and Illustrator CS6. However, I have two issues related to downloading updates:
When I try to update or download an application, the Adobe Application Manager shows the message "Downloading error | Adobe Application Manager is damaged and it is necessary to resinstall it. Download it now or contact with customer's support."
However I reinstalled AAM three times, but instead of reinstalling, shows the message "Updating Adobe Application Manager" and after the installation, running AAM again shows the same message.
I cannot access to the Adobe Creative Cloud exclusive features of Photoshop and Illustrator, showing the application as if it was activated by a serial, and not by subscription.
I am using a Windows Vista 32-bit operating system.
Update: The version of AAM is 6.2

I have the same issue, particularly with Pixel Bender 2.5, all the other upgrades get installed correctly without trouble but this one always fail, the message I get is the same one every time:
Adobe Pixel Bender Toolkit 2.5 Update
      Installation failed
Can you point me in the right direction? It seems to me that the patch is faulty.
    Thanks.
    Update 01/15/2011
Here's another update on my issue with Adobe Application Manager, I just realized today that actually none of the available upgrades got installed. Although it only marks an error with Pixel Bender, other components such as Photoshop, Premiere and others aren't being upgraded either even when the program tells you otherwise, what I mean is that for example there's Photoshop 12.0.2 available for download so I click on "Update"; the files get downloaded and installed with no error message being displayed but when I check the software it is still version 12.0.1, the same is happening with Premiere and another one, can't remember which one.
This is additional to the issue of Pixel Bender being unable to upgrade.
    Please advise,
    Thanks,
    David.
    Update 01/16/2011
I tried to download all the available updates individually from the Adobe website, the only one that went through was Photoshop, but then when I double clicked it to install it the same faulty application manager launched and I got the same behavior than before, it runs the installation and displays a message that states that everything was installed correctly, yet there no upgrade performed.
All the rest of the available downloads failed to mount.
Also the speed for download is excessively low, I checked my connection and the issue is not on my end, but yours.
This is starting to become very frustrating.

I would like to upgrade to CC full cloud prepaid offer that applies to this day December 3rd. 17 nov. to 3 December the prepaid price € 587.30 per year , incl. VAT. Tomorrow is December 4 , and the offer is then expired. Tomorrow I'll call Adobe to help me with this upgrade.  I also have a problem with MUSE. MUSE I had already downloaded and worked with it. I just have nothing to uninstall because all my data and programs from my computer are deleted / erased, so MUSE doesn't live anymore on my computer. Yet MUSE indicates the first uninstal and reinstall the product .  Before I switched to Yosemite dit not uninstall MUSE , maybe that's the problem? Pleas assist me with this also.  I will call Adobe tomorrow 4 december in the morning als for this problem.
