It seems, that the OS can´t read the label from the tape.
Is the tape device correctly configured - can you access the tape from OS level?

Is it possible to restore the SAP backup taken in Oracle 9.i onto the Oracle 10g.
If possbile, can anyone share the documents for the same?
    Thanks in advance,

    > You won't be able to use 9i DBFs on a 10g DB. You need to go 9i -> 9i then upgrade your "new" DB to 10g.
This is not true as stated. There is no difference in upgrading an installed 9.2 database (as shutdown, install 10.2 software and upgrade) and copying files over and doing the upgrade directly.
    See (as written already)

If on other system is installed 10.2.0.3, but You still see that import is using 9.1., then probably YOu have more than one ORACLE_HOME on that machine.
set correct env variables in order to use 10g ORACLE_HOME and imp utility from it.
    echo $ORACLE_HOME
    echo $PATH
both should return path to 10g ORACLE_HOME.

Sunny. As an expansion on Hemant's comments, you need to be aware (if you aren't already - I'm surprised at the number of IT "professionals" who aren't) that there is no magic in the "extension" part of a file name. There are certain conventions, but they really mean nothing as far as the actual contents (data AND format) of the file. Putting a "Corvette" nameplate on my Honda Civic doesn't make it a Corvette. Putting a ".exp" extension on some unknown file doesn't make it a compressed dump file.

  • Oracle 10g - Date format in SELECT query for CFOUTPUT

    Hello, everyone.
The project that I am working on in the dev environment is connected to an Oracle 11g database, but the production side is Oracle 10g.
I have a page that is erroring in production (but not development) when it gets to a date that it needs to display.
A co-worker mentioned that, in 10g, if a date/time is being SELECTed, you have to put it in to_char(), so I did that.
But it's still erroring, and I'm not getting an error message, so I'm assuming that I have an incorrect format for the date in the SELECT.
What is the proper format for SELECTing a date/time when using to_char()?  Right now, I have SELECT to_char(create_date,'MM-DD-YYYY HH:MI') FROM tableA .  Is this not correct for CF to output?
    Thank you,
    ^_^

Please see my original post ("I have a page erroring in production (but not in development) when it gets to a date that it needs to display.")  Sorry if it came across as vague.  It made sense, to me, when I typed it.  But, then, I'm usually typing fast just to get the question out there, when I'm in a hurry.
Haven't done a CFDUMP, yet, as every time I make a change in development that needs to be tested in production, I have to notify my supervisor that there are files that need to be copied into production, which can sometimes take a while, so I try to do troubleshooting on dev side - it's a pain in the you-know-what, but that's the kind of environment I'm working in.
As it turns out, changing the format in the SELECT to_char() did the trick.  If anyone else has this issue with Oracle 10g, I'm now using SELECT to_char(create_date,'YYYY/MM/DD HH:MI') FROM tableA, and now the CFOUTPUT is processing the whole page.  I guess the MM-DD-YYYY threw CF into a tizzy, breaking the process?
Anyhoo, it's working, now.  Thank you, Dan and Adam, for your thoughts on this.

  • How to include Date for backup of Oracle in a script !!! LINUX

    expdp system/oracle schemas=scott directory=test_dir dumpfile=scott.dmp logfile=expdpscott.log mpencryption=all encryption_password=scott reuse_dumpfiles=y compression=all
I need to include the date & time in this script.
Thanks in advanced. That's not a backup, it's an export.
I don't have my linux system handy to debug, but what you want would be something like:
expdp ..... dumpfile=exp_`date`.logThe reverse single quote (I don't know the official term, but it's the character just to the left of the one/exclamation on a US keyboard) tells the shell to substitute the value returned by the command enclosed by the marks. In the example above, it would substitute the value returned by the "date" command. That command has many, many arguments to control the format of what is returned. Look them up an any good nix reference, or just "man date".  (As for any good nix reference, you should at a minimum have a copy of "Unix In A Nutshell" on your desk.)

  • Oracle 10g Enterprise Manager

I recently upgraded one of my production databases to Oracle 10g from 9i. Everything was working perfectly. Now when I try to launch Enterprise manager I get "Server Error: Can't connect because of networking problems". I tried to stop and start the dbconsole but I'm getting an "OC4J Configuration Issue" error. The database fine.
    Has anyone seen this before?
My server OS is RedHat Enterprise Linux 3.

    I fixed same problem running:

  • Oracle 10g/11g database use on UEK versus Red Hat kernel? How widely used?

    Greetings
is there any official or semi-official information regarding how widely used is Oracle UEK to run Oracle 10g/11g database (RAC or single-node) versus running Oracle database on Red Hat Linux or on Oracle Linux with Red Hat kernel ?
I am asking because at my customer site there is a perception that Red Hat (or Oracle Linux with Red Hat kernel) is much more widely used in production to run Oracle 10g/11g database and therefore it will provide better stability even if the performance may be somewhat reduced compared to Oracle UEK option.
So I need some sort of approximate percentage numbers of how well is UEK used in Linux Oracle community to run Oracle 10g/11g databases.
    Many thanks.

The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence. Well, in my opinion, a higher market share does not reflect the quality or reliability of a product. Take MS Windows for example. Unfortunately, the reason for success is often not due to knowledge and experience, but rather due to fear and sheep effect or herd behavior.
Perhaps you can use other arguments or questions to help you to make a decision, eg.:
Oracle has a better understanding of what Oracle products require than Red Hat.
Oracle takes full responsibility for the OS and Database, no finger pointing.
Oracle tries to provide a better product than the RHEL kernel.
The Oracle UEK kernel contains Oracle driver software, not available for RHEL 6 or later.
Oracle updates are free of charge, RHEL requires a subscription.
Oracle as a company is about 20 times bigger than Red Hat.
There can be reasons that require the use of the original RHEL kernel, for instance if the vendor of a specific driver for your hardware demands it. But otherwise...

  • Installing ABAP 6.40 SR 1 on Oracle 10g

    Good Day,
I will like to install SAP 4.7 Enterprise using kernel 6.40 on Oracle 10g. I have successfuly gone to Oracle 10g via the upgrade process by
    a) Installing Oracle 9.2.x upto patchset 9.2.0.7
    b) Then upgrade to Oracle 10g patchset 10.2.0.2
I have already downloaded Oracle 10g DVD's (five of them)
Our production system is Oracle 10g, I will like to refresh QAS to Oracle 10g, so I am just enquring whether a direct install to Oracle 10g is possible, and then perfrom a restore.
If it is possible, please direct me to the CORRECT installing guide and DVD's.
    Thanks,

    > a) I want to build my QAS server from scratch with Oracle 10g installation. The version of SAP is 4.7 Enterprise  Ext 110, with 6.40 kernel.
    For this you either need
    - an Oracle 9.2.0 client (949116 - Oracle 10g Support on Windows: 6.40-Based SAP Systems)
    - or exchange during the database creation the kernel 6.40 with 6.40_EX2 so you don't need the 9.2 client but you use the 10.2 client.
    > After this then I want to restore from production which is already Oracle 10g.
Why first installing the system and then restoring? This can be done in one step with the system copy procedure.
    >  b) The DVD I am using is Master "Installation_Master_6.20_6.40_07_07"
I would recommend downloading the newest installation Master CD.
    > c) During the installation under section "Database Server and Client"

    > The option to choose is available for Server "102 or 920", but only "920" appears for Client.
Yes - because at that time there was no kernel which uses the Oracle 10.2 client. That is desribed in above note.
