Production Premium 4-Making Dolby Digital 5.1 Discs in Encore

Greetings,
I am a longtime Photoshop and now Lightroom user but have done my video editing in another product for years.
I moved to the Creative suite and Production Premium and Encore workflow and am trying to transition.
After 2 exceedingly frustrating Adobe support calls I gave up.
I have 2 questions....one I answered myself.  It appears that to create a Dolby Digital 5.1 SD DVD or Blu-Ray disc you need to purchase an additional add-on codec to the tune of $200.  Don't like it (as my $200 full package video editor includes it) but if true, than it is what it is. I saw some previous posts like this but then there were conflicts.
Second question. Exactly what do I have to purchase (are some better than others) and then how does it affect the disc making process in encore.  Or the editing process in Prod Premium? Is there a tutorial or something?
I found the encor FAQ to not be very helpful and possibilty mis-leading.  It makes it seem that this is an ADVANTAGE.
Does Encore DVD 2.0 support Dolby® Digital 5.1?
A: Yes, Encore DVD allows you to create DVDs containing Dolby Digital 5.1 content. However, Dolby Digital 5.1 content must be created in another application. The integrated Dolby Digiin audio reproduction, Encore DVD 2.0 supports the DTS audio format, in addition to the Dolby Digital format supported in earlier versions. Now, regardless of which of these two popular formats you prefer, creating the final results you want is easy with Adobe Encore DVD 2.0.
So Production premium supports a 5.1 workflow....the integration with Encore is touted....but I have to go OUTSIDE the suite to make a 5.1 audio disc that my $200 NLE currently can do?
Or is the plugin just an additional cost that is transparent....you push the button and it encodes....
Finally, for clarification, I do not try to import or maintain a 5.1 stream to a camera or anything.  I just utilize the 5.1 channels to create a nice dialogue and music ambient mix.  I put what I want in each channel. Pr Prem seems to support this.  I just want it to burn to SD and BD with 5.1.
Thanks for any help!

As I'm undertanding (sorry but being italian, I've sometimes problems in translation) I hope this will help:
-In PP, you import all your clips (audio or not) and, of course your dolby files (example .ac3)
-when everything is done (effects, transitions, etc.), PP'll encode your project giving you one customed video (as you wish) and your dolby audio file.
If you have put in this project some stereo audio file, PP will give you anyway a Dolby encoded file (it will be a "pseudo" dolby).
- Now you can:
- import them in Encore as assets dragging them in the timeline later
-import them as timeline, so you'll already find them in the new timeline
-use DinamicLink from Encore (File\Project\DinamicLink\import a Premiere project) as Jeff says
If you already have a dolby audio file imported in Encore, you'll choose the audio option "do not Trascode" so the audio project you've created in PP will not be modified and you'll output a brand new Dolby audio file.
Hope this will help you
Sorry in advance if I missed any in translation

  • Weird Dolby Digital Errors in Some Progr

I read the FAQ on Dolby Digital Exporting and all of that jazz. I have my X-Fi Fatality dumping directly into a receiver via optical cable that decodes Dolby Digital.
However it's weird, in Media Player Classic, VLC, and the like, I'm getting weird errors as Dolby Digital isn't working completely in MPC, and in VLC it kinda goes on and off in little bli
    ps.
(As in the sound is just blips and the receiver is showing dolby digital and then not about twice a second.)
However if I play a video with AC3 audio in Nero Showtime (lol) it works just fine and AC3 is working at 00%.
So my question is what am I doing wrong in VLC and MPC and other programs that is making Dolby Digital not work?
    Any tricks or tips?
    Thanks

VLC is designed to play everything by itself, including your dolby digital data. This can often be very useful, because you don't have to download codecs. Other times, it can be a problem such as when you want to pass the data through without processing. VLC probably has an option to do that, but I haven't used the software enough to know where it is.
In MPC, play your video/audio and check the listing in Play>Filters. Write down (or take a screen shot of) that list and submit it here. It shows the path the audio (and video) takes, and will show if you have a codec which is interfering.

  • Pricing analysis - Production Premium

OK, so 2 years ago, I bought CS5.5 Web Design Premium. A few months later, the introduction of Production Premium and my dissatisfaction with the product set in Web Premium, plus all the benefits in CS6 saw me eagerly handing $375 to upgrade to Production Premium CS6. I have used that suite for nearly 2 years and am quite happy with it in all areas except Premiere Pro, which I am using a LOT more right now and CS6 is missing some key features from CC that are very significant to me (audio sync and Speedgrade roundtripping).
Now there is CC, which gives me a choice between Master Collection for $600/yr or $240/yr for ONLY Premiere Pro CC.
Now there's also a discount being proffered here of 40% - which I'll assume is going to end up being a 1 time thing. That would drop it to MC for $360 and Prem Pro for $144.
Given that CC has been out for some time now, it should be coming into Adobe's head that ALL CC users are now coming into the period of time where that 40% disappears. For users that haven't upgraded, it becomes quite obvious that any deals of "40% off" are extremely limited.
For most users, Adobe products are a significant expense. Yes, I use it for work, but I use a copy I purchased personally, and because my job is not specifically a graphic artist and my use of Adobe at work is only a part of my job description, I am not reimbursed for this. Further, job security in a difficult economy means that if my work DID pay for my Adobe habit, losing that job would mean that suddenly I am tied to $600/yr out of my own pocket.
Additionally, Adobe users tend to be "long haul" type professionals. We don't look at purchases in terms of a few months. We look at them in terms of ROI and long term usage. I started a business on the side 6 months ago. I created a 5 year overall plan for it. I had a meeting yesterday that set out a roadmap for video projects and marketing materials plans that involve months as being small increments. This means that a 40% discount, while *nice* is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT. It puts the upgrade cost at the same as the $375 for Suite users, but forces a move to the Master Collection cost tier, which is unacceptable for the long term. I am looking at Adobe as a significant part of my life for the next 25+ years. 40% for one year is meaningless. 40% locked in would be a totally different story.
So as a "Premium Suite" type user here is the pricing analysis. 40% is irrelevant beyond one year, so is not even worth considering:
CS product - $375/upgrade. $427 with tax. Upgrade cycle: every version = once a year, every other version = once every 2 years. =$375/yr or $187.50/yr (I am typically an 'every other version' type upgrader).
Premiere Pro CC - $240/yr. A single product which would cost more than upgrading every other year.
Complete Creative Cloud - $600/yr. All the products I use and several I don't.
So comparing $600/yr for Creative Cloud vs $200/yr for upgrading my Suite every other year, I am now faced with a rather disappointing solution.
In terms of budget for work, if I was given a budget of $200, in *WHAT UNIVERSE* would that budget then be approved for $600? In the real world, under those circumstances, I would be told to 'figure something out' to make my budget work. In the digital world, those are not words that Adobe wants skilled technical people to be using. Most of these users are well aware of pirated options out there and are making a firm moral decision not to take that road.
There *MUST* be an option for non-Master Collection users. We can't be that small of a group.
Would I pay $375/yr to use Production Premium CC? No. Probably not. Most Adobe users I know are every other year type upgraders too. This is *especially* true of non-Master Collection users, who tend to be willing to spend, but also looking for 'cost effective solutions'.
Knowing that my budget EXPECTS $200/yr, would I pay $275/yr for Production Premium CC? Begrudgingly... probably. And I'd probably still wait another 6 months or so, using CS6 and feeling annoyed.
Would I pay $225/yr for Production Premium CC? That's probably around the point where I would look for that 40% deal for the first year and slap down my plastic TODAY, even though I don't really feel a need to upgrade anything more than Premiere Pro.
So there's your feedback Adobe. Please take note.
If you don't want to listen, I can pretty much guarantee you that I won't be switching to a $600/yr pay scheme at any point in the next 3 years. Probably 5.
What would you rather have? 5 years at $225 = $1100
    or 0 years at $600/yr = $0
I recommended to my mother that now that she is retired, she should pay $9.99/mo for Photoshop CC. I think it would be great for her and I think the monthly pay scheme is perfect for that. She can turn it off an on as desired.
I am a *totally* different type of customer. So is pretty much everyone else who needs anything more than a single Adobe product.

    Hi All,
We posted a fix for this to Akamai's configuration on 3:07pm PT Saturday 5/1/2010.
If you downloaded the Production Premium .7z file via a java based browser (Firefox etc) prior to that, then you will have to redownload.  I apologize for the inconvienence.  You can either redownload using the Akamai DLM or you can download using direct HTTP links.
If you want to download via HTTP directly, I recommend you use Firefox, since it handles  downloading of files larger than 2Gb (some versions of Internet Explorer  won’t do a file bigger than that)
    1.       Go to the page in the store where  you see your downloads for your purchase.
Then cut and paste this URL and put it into  the address bar (where you type in url links) to get the big .7z file
    http://esd.adobe.com/AdobeProducts/STVD/CS5/win32/ProductionPremium_CS5_LS7.7z
    2.       Then repeat the above to get the  .exe file
    http://esd.adobe.com/AdobeProducts/STVD/CS5/win32/ProductionPremium_CS5_LS7.exe
if you are on Mac then  use this URL
    http://esd.adobe.com/AdobeProducts/STVD/CS5/win32/ProductionPremium_CS5_LS7.dmg
Hopefully, they will  both download.   Then just double click the .exe file to  kick off the installation.   The .exe file uses the .7z  file, so make sure they are in the same directory and don’t change their  filenames.
Here  are the filesizes and checksum (you can verify them with fastsum    ...see www.fastsum.com )

  • So, how do I get Dolby Digital decoding aga

Do these new drivers still haven't fixed the DD in vista? Do I really need to buy a newer X-Fi card?

Remember this I think DDL will be in a seperate download...
    Hi everyone,
Dolby Digital Li've For Existing X-Fi and Audigy Owners
Further to our previous announcement, we anticipate making the Dolby Digital Live feature available in early August. The Dolby Digital Live feature will only be compatible with Sound Blaster X-Fi products with the EMU20k processor and Sound Blaster Audigy products that include a SPDIF output standard on the card or include a SPDIF output via a separate card or I/O dri've.
The Dolby Digital Live component will be made available for US$4.72.
    Thank you,
    The Sound Blaster Team

  • Dolby Digital Live and DTS Connect Pack not installing at all!!

I have (unfortunately) a Soundblaster X-Fi X-treme audio soundcard hooked up through an optical cable to my Inspire 5.1 Digital 5700 receiver. Of course, the sound card doesn't come with a Dolby Digital decoder, so it must be purchased seperately through Creative. Well, I downloaded (and PAID FOR) the software here after viewing and MAKING SURE my f'ing card was listed: http://buy.soundblaster.com/_creativ...DDN6Z2H2ADDEZD
However, when I go to install it the installer says "setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system" then closes. So that's fantastic. No explanations, no nothing. I have a supported card, updated drivers, but the software THAT I PURCHASED FROM CREATIVE simply is not detected. Of course, finding technical support from Creative is like finding water in the desert, so I am here. Can anyone please help me with this? I am about to call my bank and deny the $5.00 transaction if I cannot get this fixed, I've been working on it for two freaking hours now. ANY HELP is greatly appreciated.

Well, I had a reply typed and clicked "reply" but of course it asked me to log in again and lost my response. It seems their forums are quite awful as well. Suffice it to say, my soundcard is listed here: http://buy.soundblaster.com/_creativ...DDN6Z2H2ADDEZD where I purchased the product. My receiver is capable of playing DVD's in Dolby Digital, and all modern games support it, so I was of the understanding that all I needed was this DTS encoder.
I was quite angry when I wrote the post, as I couldn't get it to work, their tech support is abysmal (almost non-existent) and there were literally no instructions, it simply gave me the error and booted me. I have written a complaint to the better business bureau and will never again purchase another Creative product. They can $hit on consumers all they like, but consumers like me (and daniel_k it seems) will not forget so easily.

  • Dolby Digital Live and Old Audigy Platinum Card

I have an now well aged Home Brew Computer based on an Asus P4PE MB, 2.4 Ghz P4, gig ram, SATA Raid 0, Plenty of HD free space. I went on a campaign to speed up the old beasty a little before I start thinking of a replacement some months down the road. I picked up a NOS (New Old Stock) Audigy Platinum Sound Card to lower the load on the processor and give me some more options like a digital input that my built in AC97 didn't have.
The SB Card worked pretty well at first. Hooked it up to an inexpensi've home theater I have in the room through its digital (front panel SPDIF) and we were off to the races. It all worked great. The sound was excellent, the system seemed to work better. The only problems were related to the usual issues with using a home theater with a computer digital output.
Along came the latest release of the driver and the Dolby Digital Li've. Now I seem to have the following issues:
Use DDL and you can't lock it into a 96K sample rate affecting sound quality
Many music files I was playing just fine now have what I guess could be termed "blanking." You get some very quick blank spots. Just an instant each time but enough to wreck the fun.
CTAIdSvc.exe is running all the time and eating processor resources. A quick check with the task manager sees it gyrating from 3 to about 3 percent continuously. This is at all times regardless of any use of sound.3% is bad enough. Running over 0% is no good.
Soooo, now I look to see if I can do a comparison between with and without DDL installed. Uhhhhhhhh, where is that part of the thing installed? Seems not to have anything in add\remove programs.
Also, what is with all the other stuff running related to this sound card. Licensing application? CT Helper, Ctsvccda, etc..
I'll probably try to remove the driver by re-running its install then try it with and without the Dolby thing. Maybe reinstalling the driver removes DDL

First of all it is not personal. I have nothing against you guys, your're not responsible for drivers development/testing. I'm fed up mostly with all those responsible for releasing buggy software without making proper checks if it will work. I know that you cannot say anything but I believe these guys are giving you headache as well; they don't have to listen complaints and deal with angry customers. First thing I would do is to get rid of your test manager . Releasing something without doing proper tests is just unacceptable; especially when product is suppose to reach thounsands of customers. Could you at least tell if driver developers were informed about this issue and trying to solve the problem? I'm buliding new machine and have to consider change of my soundcard; such information would very usefull. Cheers.

  • Media Encoder PCM or Dolby Digital Settings change preset????

I am about to Encode a 2 and a half hour project from PPRO 5.5 into Media Encoder.
If I set my format to H.264 Blu-Ray and my Pre set to 1440 x 1080i 29.97 High Quality, My audio automatically sets to PCM Audio? Why?
When I use the H.264 Blu-Ray with my Pre set to 1440 x 1080i 29.97 High Quality, and I Press the Dolby Digital as my audio instead of PCM, my Preset changes to Custom. (1440 x 1080i goes away)
Why is this? Is that what is supposed to happen?
I had read that Dolby takes up less space without losing that much quality.
I'm trying to encode this file to about 15GB with keeping the best quality Audio and Video I can.

In case you missed it, his program is 2hours 40 minutes, so in that case, space is at a premium and I would go for the Dolby.
It is normal for Media Encoder to create PCM audio, that is OK, Encore will TRANSCODE it to Dolby later and shrink it down.
Edwurd, please see you other posting for more info about encoding size
    Thanks
    Jeff
    Jeff is right.
Let Media Encoder make the .264 and .wav files and have Encore automatically transcode the pcm to ac-3 (since it's licensed to do so and AME is not). Don't multiplex them into a mp4 or mov container; it'll make it blu-ray illegal (even though Encore will allow you to import it).

  • Can't TAG Mp4 files with Dolby Digital AC3 5.1

Hi everyone, I use iTunes to TAG all my Mp3 and Mp4, I have over 100,000 Mp3 tagged with iTunes without no problem and over 2,000 DVDs concerts, TV series, etc in Mp4 format tagged also with iTunes without any problems, all my Mp4 til now have 2 channel stereo sound.
My problem now is that I'm making some Mp4 movies with dolby digital 5.1 and this Mp4 play perfect in iTunes and QuickTime ''but'' I can't TAG them in iTunes because of the AC3 5.1, I'm sure of this because everthing made in 2 channel stereo have no problem to TAG in iTunes. If I TAG them its seems in the begining to write the TAGs but if I clear iTunes and then re-load again the files the TAGs dissapears.
I use MAC and PC. I use Nero Recode 2 to make my Mp4. I have the last version of iTunes and QT.... I have noticed that Winamp can write the TAGs without any problems and stays there but what I need is to iTunes recognize that TAGs because I run all my libraries in iTunes
Thanks in advance, sorry for my english.

Anybody please, any answer can help me please... Is that no body has experience this same problem?
If iTunes can't support TAGs with 5.1 is possible to fix this in the next update?

  • Dolby digital via Toslink

    Hardware
    Mac mini (mid 2011)
    Yamaha YAS-101
I've connected a mini to a Yamaha YAS-101 via Toslink hoping to receive Dolby Digital 5.1. The problem is that the YAS-101 detects the signal as stereo. I was under the impression that it shouldn't be a problem to achieve this via Toslink? Tested with Itunes and VLC.
The YAS-101 detects DD when playing a bluray from a PS3 so shouldn't be a problem there.
    Thankful for any help.

If your Mac Mini has a HDMI port, it's one of the few Apple products that does audio (5.1) and video through the HDMI port.

  • Does the digital optical input recognise Dolby Digital?

    Hey guys,
I was wondering if you could help clarify something for me. I have an Astro Gaming A30 Audio System that I use when playing my PS3. It's a gaming headset with pinpoint-accurate 7.1 Dolby and Dolby Headphone surround sound. Here's a link to the web page if you want to know more about it - http://www.astrogaming.com/products/detail/80/A30-Audio-System/.
Now, at the moment I have the PS3 connected directly to the A30 Audio System with a digital optical cable. In the PS3 settings, I have it set to output Dolby Digital 5.1 as this is the format that the A30 Audio System uses. This setting is important because it's what gives me the surround sound in my headphones. Ok, we're almost at my question...
Recently, I've been thinking of buying a capture card so I can record my game plays and upload them to YouTube. The capture card that I'm thinking of getting is the Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro. Here's a link to the web page - http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/.
My question is - since there is no output on the A30 Audio System, and therefore no way to route the sound into my Mac from it, I need to first send the sound from the PS3 into the Mac (for recording) and then re-send the sound from the Mac into the Astro A30s (for listening). If I do this, will I lose the Dolby Digital format that was originally output from the PS3? I don't mind recording the audio in stereo, but it's essential that the Dolby Digital sound goes to the Astro A30s. Otherwise I won't have proper surround sound. And if you went to the website, you would have noticed that they're pretty expensive. So playing in surround sound is very important to me, as I paid top dollar for them.
Anyway, if you can clarify that for me it would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time.
    Regards,
    Daniel

Sure there's a difference it depends completely on the original sample rate of the audio recorded otherwise the best built in audio can do is 48/24, so trying to go out at 96 will force resampling[without a capable app running]. But in terms of resampling, if you use the card then you should be able to use 96/32.
Have you properly adjusted AMS settings; so that the card is in Properties at 96? Still the only governing factor there is whatever software governs the PCI card. I don't get the problem you're having here, what is the connection to the machine, optical?

  • Looking for a trial version of Premiere Pro CS6 (or Production Premium CS6)

I suppose much has changed since Creative Suites started going to Creative Cloud.  I can't say that I am pleased with the idea, but it seems to be making my search for an upgrade rather difficult.   I've been considering updating my Production Premium 5.5 to PP CS6 but figure a trial version of at least Premiere Pro CS6 makes sense.  I can't find the traditional trial download anywhere.. except maybe on the cloud pages.  Anybody know where I can get a trial without all the tribulations? Also, I'm curious about how other editors feel about Adobe and Premiere going to CC?

  • (PProCS4/CS4 Production Premium) Dual Screens Cutting Out

AAbout a month ago I got a new computer with Windows 8.1 (64 bit).  I've loaded Production Premium CS4, but about 50% of the time my monitors will cut out (and bring up NO SIGNAL, and shove everything back to one monitor) and then come back on, and it seems to do it a lot when i've got PProCS4/EncoreCS4 Running, but it'll also do it sometimes when I turn on the computer and Windows is loading.
I'Ve tested all my connections to make sure they're not loose, including the DVI-D to VGA active converter (both monitors are VGA monitors, but one of my connections is DVI-I, so the analog is able to pass through, but my other connections are digital only), but with the converter if it was that, then it shouldn't be shutting down the other monitor.  I've also lowered my resolution just in case my computer was sending to much and was overloading.  (I've got a Radeon HD Graphics card on an AMD A6 6400K motherboard.). I've also disabled my computer and monitor's sleep modes, and it's still occurring.
i've asked my computer builder if they have an idea, and aside from a possible defective graphics card, they were wondering, to get all questions out of the way, if maybe there might be some issue with PPro/Encore or any other program in the Production Premium suite that is causing the monitors to cut out?

    Arnold,
First, you're ranting to fellow Adobe product users, not Adobe. If this were the universal disaster you're claiming, there would be many posts to that effect in the Forums. So, you're pretty much in a minority here. Have you asked product-specific questions in those product forums? If you do, lose the attitude, no matter how bad the problem -- it won't win you any friends or much help.
You do make a point about the way Help has been restructured, as some folks are not happy with the change. But Adobe claims it is the best way to have the latest help information available. Help exists in multiple forms for each app, including searchable manuals as you've used before and knowledgebase and these Forums.
As for apps not working right, you haven't told us anything about your system hardware or software, how you installed the new software, how you prepared your system for installation and what maintenance you've done. So we can't comment or offer suggestions.
But if all you want is a refund, I suggest contacting Adobe directly by phone in your area.
    Neil

  • Workflow to get a dolby digital 5.1 surround, alot of confusion.

what I have usually done with my videos is to export omf to logic , and mixed in 5.1, from there i bounce in multichannel audio file, and open it i compressor and create there my AC3 file
is that all to get a professional accepted DOLBY DIGITAL FILE AUDIO file?
what is real professional workflow used in feature films and main studios? I SEE hardwares around as dolby e  etc
please help me to clear my confusion

These are the specific specs requested by a specific facility.  They requested a quicktime with the surround sound tracks muxed (combined with the video) in this fashion.  The other DCP's I've delivered either had stereo tracks or we supplied seperate audio files for each surround sound channel.  So I wouldn't use these without talking to the facility making the DCP.

  • Surcode Dolby Digital and CC

I questioned Minnetonka Audio Software about upgrading the licence from cs6 to cc, this is the reply:
The subscription model and new licensing infrastructure employed by Adobe for Creative Cloud requires a new licensing mechanism for SurCode for Dolby Digital® 5.1 Encoder for Adobe Premiere Pro CC. We at Minnetonka Audio are finalizing the upgrade policy for existing SurCode for Dolby Digital® 5.1 Encoder for Adobe Premiere Pro Creative Suite owners, and will provide that to you within 10 business days.
    Who knows what this means.

Here is the latest About upgrading Surcode to CC:
In the past, customers who purchased a license for the SurCode for Dolby Digital 5.1 Encoder (DDPP) in a previous release of the Adobe Creative Suite have been able migrate their license to each latest CS release free of charge - up through the current CS6 version. With the introduction of Adobe’s new Creative Cloud subscription plan, an all-new licensing mechanism for SurCode for Dolby Digital® 5.1 Encoder for Adobe Premiere Pro CC (UDDCC) is required.
For Existing SurCode for Adobe Products Customers:
Permanent license activation on one computer for the built-in SurCode for Dolby Digital 5.1 Encoder module in Adobe Creative Cloud - Upgrade from DDPP to UDDCC.
Serial Number and/or proof of purchase for SurCode for Dolby Digital 5.1 (DDPP) is required. - Please add your current serial number to the remarks field, when completing your order, or simply reply to the Order Confirmation email with your proof of purchase.
This update has been made available to our existing DDPP customers for a fee of $99.00 USD.
