ProE and my MacBook

I am an engineering student who is looking to upgrade my MacBook in order to run ProE. I'm not really computer savy and am looking for advice.
As noted, I have a MacBook
Hardware:
-Intel Core 2 Duo
-Processor Speed: 2GHz
-L2 Cache: 4MB
-Memory:2GB
-Bus Speed: 667MHz
Serial-ATA: Capacity=145GB
I'm wondering if it is even possible to upgrade enough to comfortably run a 3D drafting program. I do realize that I will probably have to run parrellel operating systems and I have already planned on getting Windows to run other programs.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thomas

The recommended processor speed for that program, running on a Windows machine, is 2.4GHZ or higher. I seriously doubt that you would get what you need running it on your MacBook.

  • How well does a Macbook pro and a Macbook air run Xcode, Photoshop and Dreamweaver?

How well does a Macbook pro and a Macbook air run Xcode, Photoshop and Dreamweaver?

MacBook Pro - no problem, it is an extremely popular computer for running that software. Just look at the Adobe demo videos of their products, most of the time you can see a MacBook Pro running the software in their video.
MacBook Air - should be just as good most of the time.
However, if you get involved in heavy Photoshop work like highly stacked layers/masks/channels, 16 bits per channel or up, or merging HDR or panoramas, the MacBook Pro may be better because it can take 16GB RAM while the MacBook Air can take only 8GB RAM.
Also, if you are going to do serious programming in XCode or Dreamweaver, you may find the MacBook Air screen to be too small for all of the code windows and tool palettes that you may want to open and arrange in those programs. The 15" Retina screen of the MacBook Pro will let you spread out your work and do less window switching. The 11/"13" MacBook Air screens are both smaller and non-Retina so not as sharp.
Even Photoshop is nicer on the 15" MacBook Pro because of the extra screen space for the image with less intrusion by the tool palettes.
In short, if you are a casual user the MacBook Air will be great. If you are a professional with a heavy workload the MacBook Pro may be more efficient overall due to the larger screen and higher RAM capacity.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro on both my Apple Mac Pro and Apple MacBook Pro

I think I found the answer to my question: "May I install my copy of Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro on both my Apple Mac Pro and on my recently purchased Apple MacBook Pro?" I think my question was answered in reading the text of the agreement for use of this site in the following:
"You may activate the Software on up to 2 devices (or virtual machines) at a time, if these activations are associated with the same Adobe ID for the same individual, unless stated at http://www.adobe.com/go/activation . However, you may not use the Software on these devices simultaneously."
If this is correct, would you confirm. I know how security conscious Adobe is with their software.
    Thank you! Be Safe!
    Ken

    Hi kennethf71183385,
Thank you so much for asking! Yes, you are entitled to activate your copy of Acrobat on two computers. Please see Activation & Deactivation Help - Adobe Support for more information about activating Adobe software!
Please let us know if you have additional questions.

  • What would be a better choice between a MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air?

I will be starting college next fall as a neuroscience major and I am torn between purchasing a MacBook Pro vs. a MacBook Air. Which would be a better choice considering I would be using it to take notes, creating documents, presentations etc.? I am not a person involved in heavy gaming, or major creative things. Just simple stuff but I do however spend countless hours doing research. Help!

Personally the Airs have no appeal for me. Limited hard drive space (actuall no hard drive, it is all flash storage space) which can not be upgraded.
Airs are to small unless you get the 13" model and for that money you can get a nice 13" MBP or even a 15" model.
For me an Air would be a second or third computer but not my only computer.

  • MacBook Pro and aluminium MacBook power query...

    Hi Guys,
I have a 15in MacBook Pro and my wife has a 13in aluminium MacBook. The power supplies are rated differently but is there one that will charge both? For example will her power adaptor charge mine safely?
We're trying to reduce the clutter on our desk, so one less power cable would be welcome!
    Cheers for any help!
    HNY
    Rich

    Hiya,
there is a *firmware update* for older macbooks; if your wife has not got the 2007/8 one, have a look on this *general LIST* . This then enables you to use the new power adapter on both machines.
Do ensure to read all documentation prior to installing the firmware update if you need it (the notes will be attached to each relevant download).
    Hope that helps.

  • How do I get internet on both my Mac Pro and my macbook pro at the same time?

Both are running 10.6.8 operating systems.
There is one ethernet jack in my office. The mac pro does not have a wireless card.
I want to use internet on my macbook pro from the mac pro. I'm thinking internet sharing through ethernet cord (ethernet cord from wall to mac pro, then second ethernet cord from mac pro to macbook pro), or via firewire. Both methods tell me on my macbook pro that I am connected to the internet but when I try to use the internet it fails.
Is this an ip address problem? how do I change that?
suggestions? maybe there is a better way to do this?
    Thanks!!

    Get a router.
A Apple Airport Extreme router is easy to setup and has extra ports on the back for Ethernet to the MacPro.
This way you'll have Wifi and can take the MacBook Pro anyplace in range and use it, instead of burning up that Firewire port and being on a leash.
You could be having IPv6 issues with the MacBookPro if it's on a later version of OS X.
Look under your network > Advanced TCIP and turn off IPv6, reboot.

  • HT1329 I have my iTunes account logged on to two Macs (one Macbook Pro and one Macbook Air) and want to get all my purchased music on both. How do I go about doing this?

I have a personal Macbook Pro, which I have had for a very long time. My iTunes account has a lot of music from CD's but also has a lot of purchased music. I also have a Macbook Air for work and have purchased a lot of music on this computer using the same iTunes account. Is there a way to get the music to show up on both computers being that they are from the same account?

Purchases from the iTUnes Store can be transferred like described here:
iTunes for Mac: How to copy purchases between authorized computers
If you want to be abe to download all your music from iCloud, you will need to sign up for iTunes match, that will upload or match all your music between your two machines, including your ripped CDs.

  • Need help on 1 Macbook Pro, and 1 Macbook original.

Okie Dokie. So on ebay I brought a Macbook knowing it was broken, mainly because I like a project. I haven't recieved it yet but in order to prepare myself for what I am about to face in my project, what can be the possible cause for a Macbook to just stop powering on, besides the battery?
Also, I bought a broken Macbook pro, This one just has a bad battery and the Argyle Checkered Screen problem.
I just want to know all the possible fixes for these issues.
I'm training to be a Computer IT or a genius an apple store. I know it requires actual training but I just want something to get my foot in the door.
I know it sounds silly. In fact these 2 macbooks might still be under warranty. However, I just like a project.
    They were $250 all together.

The other, more important question: do these drives support their own, OS-independent, "garbage collection" so they don't slow down significantly over the first few months.
I've been searching extensively for an answer to this, if anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated (particularly for the 512GB SSD).

  • I1 DISPLAY PRO and DISPLAY MACBOOK PRO 15 " GLOSSY SCREEN

    "Ciao" to all.
I recently  i bought a macbook pro 15 "glossy screen. Would like to try to calibrate the monitor with a i1 DISPLAY PRO produced by X-Rite. Some of you have already tried? with what result?
    Many thanks for the responses.

I talked to AppleCare; they referred me to Customer Service to arrange a return of the MBP and shipment of a new replacement. They said since it was a defect out of the box not to repair it, just go for a replacement.
Sounds good in the long run, but being without it for a few days will be painful!

  • X-Rite Optix XR/Coloreyes Pro and 13" MacBook 2011

    Hello,
I use the X-Rite Optix XR device along with Coloreyes Display Pro to calibrate my apple 23” ACD and it works great.
Can I also use them to calibrate the screen of the 2011 macbook pro 13”?
    Regards
PS, I've also posted this question in the macbook pro forum.

Unless you have a desktop Mac you can back up to over your network, your choices are:
Spend a bunch on a Time Capsule, kind of a waste if you already have a wireless router.
Spend $100 or so on an external HD and have some inconvenience until Iomega updates.
    Risk losing all your data.
It's your call, but a no-brainer to me.
Better:  get a portable external.  Once you get the Iomega working, start making regular "clones" to the portable and take it off-site so you're also protected against fire, flood, theft, etc.

  • Mail "Bounce" no longer works on both my Mac Pro and my Macbook

Subject says it all, I cant remember the last time I used the bounce feature, maybe about 7 months ago but I know it worked ok then.
No matter what email I try to bounce it doesn't sent the original sender an email to say that my email address doesn't exist.
I checked the status when I clicked bounce and do actually see an email being sent but it never gets received.
any ideas? I really like this feature.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 - Macbook Pro and Macbook Air will not print

    Products:
    HP Officejet Pro 8600
Macbook Pro (Mac OS X, Version 10.7.5)
Macbook Air (OS X, Version 10.8.2)
    Question:
Why did my Macs initially print fine, but now will not print at all?
    Full Story:
I have a wireless network at my house that consisted of a 30mb cable internet, Netgear 900n, HP Officejet Pro 8600, 2 Dell Laptops with Windows 7, a Lenovo Laptop with Windows 7, and Dell Tower with Windows 7 - All printed just fine.
The HP Officejet 8600 was added to my network about 2 months ago.
I added a Macbook Pro and a Macbook Air about 3 weeks ago.  Both Macs printed just fine for about a week.  Then suddenly they stopped.  I spent about 2 hours on the phone with HP Service, and they finally said it must be my router.  So I called Netgear.  Netgear was useless!  They wanted me to agree to charges for services before they would even discuss the issue.
Due to information provided by HP's service support, and because Netgear will not support their product, I promptly purchased a new router - an Apple Airport Extreme.
The Macs recognize the printer, will print if hardwired via a USB cable, but will not print wirelessly to the Officejet Pro 8600.  The PCs print fine.
The frustration that is being felt is compound by the fact that the Macs printed just fine with the Officejet Pro 8600 2 weeks ago, and now the printer just shows "idle"... even with a new router. (see image below)
Please help, I appreciate any support.
As a side note, the HP Service rep was very friendly, and definitely tried to support the HP Product, which is much more than I can say about Netgear.
    Thank you,
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
More likely the issue related with Multicast, which Apple devices relies on to communicate with teh device through the network.
First try unplugging the router for 30 seconds.
Plug it back to the power and wait for 2-3 minutes.
Turn the HP printer Off and back On, then check for any difference.
If the same persists, try changing your router configuration as following
Note: the settings below are not related with the HP product, I provide you the steps as a best effor and those are only based on my own knowledge. you may try modifying the router settings at your own risk:
Open the router configuration page (can be found listed as the Default Gateway by clicking the Wireless icon on the printer, then print a network configuration report.
    Click the Advanced tab.
Click the Setup option from the menu, then click on WAN Setup.
Make sure to uncheck the box next to Disable IGMP Proxying and Apply the changes.
Click the LAN Setup on the same Setup menu.
Set the RIP Version as RIP-2 and Apply the changes.
Reboot your router and then check for any change.
I hope you may find that information useful, you may also use the user guide below for further information:

  • MacBook Pro and Internet

I've just bought a MacBook Pro. I also have an iMac, which I use with a BTYahoo internet/email account and a BT Home Hub wireless router. I migrated my network details from the iMac to the MacBook Pro, and the MacBook Pro can connect to the router, and says there is an internet connection. However, there isn't. I can't connect to the internet or email. Meanwhile, the iMac on the desk next to the MacBook is still connecting just fine.
Any suggestions? I've checked that the MacBook Pro has the same account settings as the iMac, and it has. So I'm not sure the problem is a Mac problem or a BTYahoo problem.

Change your router channel.  Sometimes this all you will have to do.
    System Preferences/Internet & Network/Network
    Unlock the padlock
    Locations:  Automatic
    Highlight Airport
    Click the Assist Me button
In the popup window click the Diagnostic button.
System Preferences/Network- Unlock padlock.  Highlight Airport.  Network Name-select your name.  Click on the Advanced button.  Airport/Preferred Networks-delete all that is not your network.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."  Click the OK button and lock the padlock.  Restart your computer.

Check to see if an extra entry is present in the DNS Tab for your wireless connection (System Preferences/Network/Airport/Advanced/DNS).
Delete all extra entries that you find.
