Professional DJ Sound Card Advice, Please

I am converting my DJ and Karaoke system to my PC using PCDJ software. I am in need of an external USB port sound card which can be attached to my equalizer and amp. However, I will need 2 microphone inputs. Has anyone used one of Creative's sound cards for this specific purpose? If so, your advice would be appreciated. Sound quality is of the utmost importance also. Thanks!

Thank you for all your suggestions - I guess am hoping I can find another smaller audio interface to use alongside my Apogee Duet and then set up an aggregate device in the Mac... though not sure if that will be a stable/good solution. Am doing research now to find out, if not will probably opt for one of the interfaces you've all suggested, with 4 outputs minimum - hopefully a second hand one to keep costs down.

  • Audigy 4 pro sound card HELL please advise!!!

    hi all,
    right i'll TRY to keep it simple!.....
    BEFORE my (recently brand new) hard dri've died and caused me all sorts of probs (and ?300) my soundcard was fine it was :
    windows 7
    audigy 4
    cubase 4
    daniel k's drivers (i think OR it was the one that came with the card)
    with this i HAD the option of acti've X driver OR creative asio (used this as was much much better)
    SINCE it died i've tried everything for days and days of hell to get this driver on, heres the symptoms:
    using the CD that came with the audigy it takes 45 mins to load and then tells me there is NO sound card fitted (tried this 3 or 4 times)..
    i physically took t?he card out (twice) and it made no difference and still didnt recognise any card fitted.
    i've had to system restore a few times to get it 'see' ANY driver.....i've also downloaded some drivers but same symptoms as above.
    using the acti've x the latency is a prob though i have adjusted it to make it work BUT am thinking this is one of the reasons my cubase freezes / crashes / and now makes crackling noise especially when using a reverb vst.
    the whole system was great B4 this and i've lost 3 or 4 days and am now at the throwing it out of the window phase.
    BEFORE it handled superior drummer as a VST and midi / audio files + reverbs all at the same time NO problem.
    the current set up is almost identical and in fact a tickle better than B4 so WHY wont it see a sound card ?when trying a different dirver?
    HELP! Si in Brighton.

    ta...yes it does.
    works (almost) fine with the acti've X driver, apart from telling me line/mic is NOT available....spent all day (again) trying to get the 3.8 daniel K pack on there.....came back with 'somethings wrong' meessage each time.
    it just baffles me that my hard dri've
    cd rom AND now (maybe) the card all ferk up at exactly the same time!
    i recorded afterwards and it was fine for hours.....
    cheers si

  • Sound card advice to a MacBook Pro

    I am looking to purchase a soundcard for my MacBook Pro. I am going to be using my laptop for a moderate amount of DJing while also using the M-Audio products to go along with it. Will eventually get to hooking up two ipods and mixing with the two there ...
    Can anyone recommend a good soundcard I can purchase?? Looking for a moderately priced one, but won't mind spending a little extra cash if it is worth the sound.
    Thanks.

    Likely a problem with the headphone jack.
    I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store and discuss it with them

  • Satellite Pro L10: sound card does not support Windows 7

    Hi
    i have a Satellite Pro L10 so i installed a Windows 7 on my system but my laptop can not support Windows 7.
    I need update of sound card for Windows 7.
    The model of sound car is Conexant CX20468-31 AC97 Audio Sound Card.
    Please help me

    Hi buddy
    What to say first of all you will not get official drivers for this notebook for Win 7 or Vista.
    This notebook is oldie and I doubt the drivers will be released.
    Reading through this forum threads Ive noticed that most of the user use the Vista driver on Win 7 OS.
    Maybe you should google for the Conexant AC97 Vista driver and should try a Vista driver on Win 7
    Good luck

  • Solution: 2 sound cards; setting one as default

    I've got 2 sound cards in my system: one onboard and one an add-in PCI card. I want to make the better card, the PCI card, the default. But the system seems to detect the onboard sound card first and wants to make it the default card.
    I'm coming from Debian/Ubuntu where I had found a solution for this problem. I can't recall exactly what I did to get the PCI card selected as default, but it was probably by specifying modprobe order in /etc/modules. And I couldn't recall the URL of the page where I found that solution. To top it all off, what works under Ubuntu/Debian ain't necessarily gonna work under Arch.
    So, I began searching the web for solutions for this problem, favoring results that dealt with Arch. I found a few things that seemed to be relevant but, on careful reading, I found them confusing. I couldn't find any very specific directions to do what I was trying to do under Arch. Instead, I found various bits and pieces of information that seemed relevant but that needed to be put in some comprehensible form. So, I resorted to some fiddling around, hoping I would stumble on a solution. I think I have stumbled onto the solution to the problem of making one of two sound cards be the system's default sound card--at least it appears to be working now on my system. This post will therefore be an attempt to put the necessary information into order, providing a routine that others who may be faced with this task may follow.
    The steps are as follows: 1) install alsa-utils; 2) as root, run alsaconf; 3) appropriately edit the file /etc/modprobe.d/sound that alsaconf created in step 3; 4) reboot to find the card you wanted to be the default sound card actually selected as the system's default. An important note: I didn't use alsaconf to do any sound card configuration, though that is its job. The only real role alsaconf played in the routine I used was to create the /etc/modprobe.d/sound file (it seems to create that file after you successully run the command alsaconf). Perhaps the file could be simply created de novo (sudo touch /etc/modprobe.d/sound , set permissions appropriately) and there would be no need to even run alsaconf. I didn't try that, but anyone following these instructions might want to consider doing it this way. Please post your results in this thread if you manually create that file rather than using alsaconf for creating the file.
    After I ran alsaconf, the /etc/modprobe.d/sound file contained only two lines, and those lines were specific to the onboard sound chip that I did NOT want to be the default sound card on my system. The lines looked like this:
    alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
    alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0
    From documentation I had read, I understood that the zero (0) in these entries was an indication that this onboard Intel sound card would be the default card. If the /etc/modprobe.d/sound file had contained entries for both my cards (not sure why it didn't), then one set of entries (referring the system's default sound card) would have a zero associated with them, while the other set of two entries (referring to the non-default, second sound card) would have had a one (1) associated with them.
    With this information in mind, I then managed to get information from my system (by using lsmod, I believe) on what was the module name for my second, PCI card--the one I wanted to be the system's default sound card. The module name is snd_ymfpci. Once I had that information, I manually added a second set of two lines to /etc/modprobe.d/sound so that the file looked as follows:
    alias snd-card-0 snd_ymfpci
    alias sound-slot-0 snd_ymfpci
    alias snd-card-1 snd-intel8x0
    alias sound-slot-1 snd-intel8x0
    As you can see, the entries for the snd_ymfpci have a zero associated with them, while the built-in intel sound card entries have a one (1) associated with them. I wasn't at all sure that this would bring the desired results but I found that, once I rebooted the system, that the add-in PCI card was actually now the default card for the system, while the intel onboard card was non-default. Thus, I believe I've stumbled on a solution for making the system use one of two sound cards on the system as the default sound card.
    Please feel free to add to or correct my instructions. I can't claim infallible expertise in this matter, so there could well be mistakes in either my understanding or in the steps I've spelled out here. Or perhaps there's just a simpler way to do this under Arch.
    James
    Btw: I'm using the gnome environment. There seems to be a conflict, or at least some friction, between alsa's sound controls and those of the gnome desktop environment. It's a separate problem, but is there some way I can make gnome's sound controls (e.g., gnome's volume control) override alsa's? So far I've found myself using alsamixer to make any real adjustments to the sound.

    I've written some post about it somewhere, but there's other ways of setting a default card. What I use at the moment (in XFCE):
    The output of  cat /proc/asound/cards:
    user ~  $   cat /proc/asound/cards
    0 [CMI8738        ]: CMI8738-MC6 - C-Media CMI8738
                          C-Media CMI8738 (model 55) at 0x9c00, irq 17
    1 [NVidia         ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
                          HDA NVidia at 0xfe020000 irq 20
    2 [U0x46d0x8d7    ]: USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x8d7
                          USB Device 0x46d:0x8d7 at usb-0000:00:02.0-8, full speed
    3 [default        ]: USB-Audio - USB Audio DAC
                          Burr-Brown from TI               USB Audio DAC    at usb-0000:00:02.0-5, full s
    I want to switch between sound-device "CMI8738" and "default" ("default" is a system label not set by me; it's a bit confusing but as you see the system has given the other USB-Audio device another unique label). You could also use the ID numbers, but the drawback of that is that it might change if you plug and unplug USB-Audio devices, hence the unique label is a better choice.
    I choose to make a directory like this: /usr/sound. In sound I've to files, could be more if I wanted to switch between other cards as well. First file, named by me "asound_usb":
    pcm.!default {
      type hw
      card default
      ctl.!default {
      type hw
      card default
    Another named "asound_pci":
    pcm.!default {
      type hw
      card CMI8738
      ctl.!default {
      type hw
      card CMI8738
    The idea is to copy the preferred file to /etc/asound.conf. Hence I made two simple scripts in /bin. "alsa_usb":
    #!/bin/sh
    cp /usr/sound/asound_usb /etc/asound.conf && /etc/rc.d/alsa restart
    And another "alsa_pci":
    #!/bin/sh
    cp /usr/sound/asound_pci /etc/asound.conf && /etc/rc.d/alsa restart
    Writing in terminal from root "alsa_usb" or "alsa_pci" will switch default sound-device. Nothing fancy but pretty handy in my view. If someone prefer to have a desktop entry in /usr/share/applications you could use gksu for example. One I named "alsa_switch_usb.desktop":
    [Desktop Entry]
    Type=Application
    Name=Alsa switch - USB
    Comment=Eget skript
    Icon=sonata-stock_volume-max.png
    Exec=gksu -u root alsa_usb
    Terminal=false
    StartupNotify=false
    Categories=Application;AudioVideo;
    Another "alsa_switch_pci.desktop":
    [Desktop Entry]
    Type=Application
    Name=Alsa switch - PCI
    Comment=Eget skript
    Icon=sonata-stock_volume-max.png
    Exec=gksu -u root alsa_pci
    Terminal=false
    StartupNotify=false
    Categories=Application;AudioVideo;
    I don't know whether this is an ugly solution or not. Whatever the case is it works very well... for me. The asound.conf works of course as a permanent setting, I just prefer the switch option.

  • Sound Card for Macbook (Black) 2.4 Ghz?

    Sorry for my weak IT knowledge but can anyone please help me determine my sound card make/model? Is it the Realtek audio or is that just the driver/codec? Any info would be much appreciated. I have the lastest/most current Black Macbook with the 250GB HD & 2GB Memory. I am trying to determine a minor issue with using a PC-Only compatible recording software on the Windows XP partition. A better question may be, how can I or do I need to update the sound driver when using the Windows XP OS via Bootcamp? I have already installed the Leopard driver discs successfully (including the sound driver) on the XP OS partition. The sound works/functions correctly on the XP partition. Just wondering if there is a hardware issue between my PC software and the sound card? Please advise.
    thanks!

  • No sound with alsa and integrated Intel sound card, any advice???

    I just got a new computer, erased the OEM windows install and installed Arch linux with xfce. I have an Integrated HDA intel sound card with Realtek ALC888 chip
    Sound worked just fine in the windows install, so I know the card and speakers work.
    I installed alsa and made sure to unmute PCM and Front speakers. Unmuting all of the entries didn't help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hmm. I have an onboard Intel sound chipset as well.. I noticed your rc.conf doesn't have "snd-hda-intel" in the MODULES array; make sure you add that.
    I never figured out how to read the right side of lsmod's output, so I'll assume that, despite having the snd-hda-intel module, you haven't enabled it yet. Try (as root or through sudo) `modprobe snd-hda-intel`. It may need underscores instead of hyphens; they seem to be interchangeable.

    Okay, I did my best searching and I couldn't find anything that matched all your descriptors. I did do a search on both decoder numbers. SB0256 returned very little results, but with SB0466, I was able to find this ebay listing:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...6_fvi%3D&_rdc=
    This card isn't a Champion like you suggested. And with my complete lack of knowledge, I don't know what I/O dri've bay means. But since it is PCI and the decoder matches the number you gave me, this card should be adequete, right?
    Whether it works or not, my search indicated it might be very hard for me to find that card (or any PCI card for that matter). Everything I saw was out of stock. I know this is a forum for Creative, but are there any other manufacturers that will allow me to accomplish my goal, either with current cards, or discontinued cards? Thanks again
    Oh, and I will vote on that thread. I probably won't wait for them to release the decoder since I need it now, but I still believe Creative should be giving the customer what they want

    Also, I have synced my iPhone with iTunes on my MacBook, but my music doesn't show up at all on my iPhone. Any suggestions please?
    I would greatly appreciate some guidance / advice please?  Many thanks in anticipation...

    You can import the contacts from SIM.
    It is covered in the manual:
    iPhone User Guide (For iOS 4.2 and 4.3 Software)

  • PLEASE HELP!! ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Sound Card for NOTEBO

    Hi. I'm new here and found this forum because I have problems with my?Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Sound Card for notebooks. The card itself works fine with my Dell XPS notebook but I also purchased the upgrade kit-speaker docking module that would allow me to play my 4/4. speakers. The problem lies withiin the speaker docking module (upgrade kit). I'm running Windows Vista, could this be the problem? I don't get sound from my speakers. When I run the diagnostic test I only hear sounds from my front left and right speakers and nothing from my sub and my back speakers. I hear NOTHING when I play music or anything off of my laptop. Please help with this issue. Thank you.

    That's great, but ideally i would require to purchase from the UK.....
