Professional Edition - Single app only?

I heard from my reseller today that from now on the DPS Professional Edition will only allow development of a single app. Is this correct?
Greg

The price gouging is really how you look at the product-- or more importantly what your client produces with DPS.
If you are a traditional magazine or periodical publisher. Chances are the the $4800 over a year is a drop in the bucket compared to traditional press costs (even factoring in the folio download fee). However, where I was getting the most intereset with DPS was from non-traditional publishers who were looking to essentially create their own newsstand or library. Lot of non-profits, associations and schools which have lower print runs and liked their content being able to live in an app. I have a feeling that in another year they will be looking for another option and I will be the one with egg on my face assuming no changes from Adobe. We charged a platform fee as well but it wasn't close to $4800 per App so for some it will be tough to swallow. Plus I'll have to go back to other companies who have had an interest and let them know of the news.
Don't know what is possible in terms of code with DPS and distribution channels. But I'd like to see unlimited multi-folio "free" apps remain with Professional Edition meaning you're not charging app, issue or subscription fees through the distribution channels...i.e. free app, free content (essentially current model without the ability to cahrge for apps) Then another Tier which would be "Professional Edition Profit" where you buy a single multi-folio license with the intent to sell content or the app (what the new model is proposed to be). Would have broader market reach, capture more clients and folio downloads.

  • Pro Edition & single app

I have a current Pro Edition annual license purchased before March 1, 2014 and i distribute o multi-folio app . I want to know if i still can create a single app with the same license and if this single app is free of fulfillments.

Thank you for the replay Bob. Im asking this because i read in DPS's FAQ'S this:
"Are there different buying options available with DPS?
Yes, there are two buying options available for companies looking for a robust digital publishing platform.
Professional Edition enables customers to create one multi-folio app per license. Professional Edition customers who purchase an annual or monthly license can publish an unlimited number of folios within a single app and distribute those folios based on fulfillment bundles purchased."
So for us who already have o Pro licence we can still create single apps with no extra cost.?

  • If we upgrade to a Professional Edition DPS license can we create an unlimited number of Single edition apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices?

I work for a organisation based in Sydney and we have a team license for creative cloud (single edition).
We have been producing single folio apps for the iPad and want to continue this through 2015.
At the moment we can only create apps for the iPad platform.  If we upgrade to a Professional Edition DPS license can we create an unlimited number of Single edition apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices?
We do not need multi-folio apps as we are not a publishing company.

    Thanks Neil
I sent an email yesterday and am awaiting a reply.  Here is my email for reference.

I work for a large organisation based in Sydney and we have a team license for creative cloud (single edition).
We have been producing single folio apps for the iPad through Indesign and the App builder.  We now want to produce apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
If we upgrade to a Professional Edition DPS license can we create an unlimited number of apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices?
We are not a publishing company so we will produce a small number of the apps.  If you could get back to me with a solution and approx price that would be great.
    Thanks for your time

  • Clarity on Single Edition vs. Professional Edition

    Hi Guys,
    I am just trying to make the decision on whether I need the professional edition or whether it’s not worth it. I was hoping some of the regulars here might be able to answer a few questions;
What happens if you buy 10,000 folios and you sell 10,001… does it automatically top up, do you get billed later, or is that extra person blocked from downloading the app until you buy more folios?
What happens with your unused folios – do they simply become available to the next product you release? What happens if you cancel your subscription, or never sell more than 10,000? Are they refunded?
If you have the Professional Edition, can you choose to still release apps as a single edition (as in free of the folio download costs) when required?
Is there any way you can release an App through the single edition service, whereby it has an expiry date. For example, if the user downloads the app and in three months you want to make it so they can’t open the app again (they have to buy a new issue, for example) can you do that?
I currently have a Creative Cloud membership, which comes with the Single Edition DPS. If I roll over into the Professional Edition, does it replace my existing package? So I have Creative Cloud plus the PE features?
    Many thanks
    Chris

I'll answer the ones I know for sure off the top of my head.
    2. Unused folios are available for any issues and publications you produce under your professional edition account. You can have multiple titles available, for example, and they all share the same bundle of folio downloads. If you cancel your subscription they are gone and are not refunded.
    3. Yes.
    4. No.
    5. They are separate. Professional Edition *only* gives you DPS publication capabilities. You still need to maintain your Creative Cloud subscription if you want access to Adobe software like InDesign, Photoshop, etc.

  • Switching from Professional Edition to Single Edition

    Hello,
I am considering downgrading my app from Professional Edition to Single Edition with the CC. I have some questions I cannot find on the FAQ.
How do fulfillments work for a Single Edition?
Our app is free. Do we still have to purchase fulfillments? Are unlimited downloads/views included?
    Is the webviewer option available?
Can I submit and launch additional single folio apps upon approval from iTunes?
Are single edition apps available for iPad only?
I am finding conflicting information. On the comparison chart it shows that you can PREVIEW your app on multiple devices. Can I launch an app on iPhone, Android and iPad?
I currently meet all the neccessary requirements for my app. Certificates, Apple Dev license, and everything is set up with iTunes Connect. Can this information "roll over"/be applied if I cancel my professional Edition and move to the CC Single Edition?
    Is social sharing available?
Your help is appreciated. Thank you

How do fulfillments work for a Single Edition?
There are no fulfillments in Single Edition. The content is packaged into the app you submit to Apple. Bob Levine has a good place that explains the basics of Single Edition vs. multi-issue apps: http://boblevine.us/digital-publishing-suite-101-single-edition-vs-multi-folio-apps/.
    Is the webviewer option available?
    No.
Can I submit and launch additional single folio apps upon approval from iTunes?
With a Creative Cloud account you can currently create as many Single Edition applications as you want, but those are individual applications. See the link I posted above for more details on this.
Are single edition apps available for iPad only?
Correct. Single Edition apps are only supported for iPad.
Can this information "roll over"/be applied...
Your iTunes developer account and certificates are completely independent from DPS. You can use the same developer account and certificates to create Single Edition apps as a Creative Cloud customer.
    Is social sharing available?
    No.

  • Professional version Single folio in-app Purchase+Push

    Hi everyone :
I'm finishing my first app using Professional Edition - monthly suscription and I have a couple of question
1- I'm creating a single Folio In-app Purchase version ( non consumable ), be default according with Apple it requires Push notification but according with Adobe documentation this option is only available to Enterprise so How does it work ?? Does the app have by default Push notification if it is single folio ( Pro ) in-app Purchase ??
2- I read the document A Companion Guide as the Only guide to set up all the files, ID's etc but it is not clear when the option is Single folio In-app. I know that the ID for the folio is the same as the ID for the App ( AdobeID=AppleID ). The content Viewer creates the .ipa and .zip files with the unique folio embedded and then I have to test the Purchase with the Test user but if the Content Viewer only has one folio where will go the BUY button ??
3- I tested the application without create the Test User ( Through iTunnes load the app in an approval Device ) and everything looks OK so how can I test the Purchase ??
4- Uploading the app ( .zip ) using the Application Loader will be enough to have the Content Viewer app and the Inn-App Purchase ready ??
Sorry but I can not find clear instructions for this scenario

    1. Push notification is not Enterprise only. If you're creating a subscription multi-folio app that will appear in Newsstand, push notifications are required. Only Enterprise customers can use third-party push servers, but that's a different issue.
    2. Use iTunes Connect to create an in-app purchase for each retail folio. As you do so, you'll create a Product ID that looks something like "com.publisher.publication.issue." When you publish the folio using Adobe tools, you should specify that same Product ID. For a subscription app, you'll also need to set up in-app purchases for each subscription duration (6 months, 1 year, 1 month, etc.). Each duration should have a separate Product ID in the "com.publisher.publication.duration" format. You'll specify these Product IDs when you use Viewer Builder to build the app. After you build the app and sideload the .ipa file to the iPad, Buy and Subscribe options should appear in your app's library.
    3. If you don't see Buy and Subscribe options, you didn't set up your folios properly.
    4. If your .ipa file works properly, yes. If not, don't bother downloading the .zip file until you get the .ipa file to work properly.

  • Professional Edition vs. Single Edition

    Hi,
In my company we have the Professional Edition license, but want to change to the Single Edition version because is cheaper.
In the Adobe website  I've been reading the comparative for the different versions but there are several things that I haven't understand too much.
I can only create applications with a single .folio?,
I only could sell it in the Apple Store?
Ionly could make ipad applications or for Android too?
I will appreciate that someone can clarify me this points.
    Thanks.

    Single Edition/CCM:
I can only create applications with a single .folio?, Yes, Built in Single Folio only.
I only could sell it in the Apple Store? Yes, Only iPad apps currently and you can sell only on Apple Appstore
Ionly could make ipad applications or for Android too? Only iPad Apps, Android is not available with DPS SE/CCM
And if  I have the Single Edition and I need to make a puntual multi issue? No, you cannot create Multi issue apps or Newstand apps with DPS SE/CCM.

  • Can you self-distribute a single edition folio app?

Currently I am using the Adobe Content viewer to distribute folio's for a couple of clients.  One client would like single edition folio apps created, but doesn't like the idea of them being in iTunes.  Is it possible to self-distribute (publish) a single edition folio app outside of iTunes?  Much the same way you can already create any type of iPad app and create an installable package without having to go through iTunes...
    Thanks for any assistance,
    Greg B

The only way to do so is to create a developer version of the app but it
will expire and will be limited to 100 UDIDs.
In short, this isn't going to happen without enterprise level accounts
with Apple and Adobe and is still subject to licensing restrictions set
forth by Apple for app distribution.

  • Single Apps with Pro Edition

    Hi there,
I need a quick answer to this!
Building/publishing a Single App with a Professional Edition account, makes it possible to update this Single App from time to time?
And how about the Single Apps made with CCM account? Are they "editable"?
    Thank you

Sorry, I just found it on the Companion Guide:
"if you enable the Apple Push notification service (APn) for your viewer app using the Adobe service, you can indicate to your customers when a new or updated folio is available. in non-newsstand apps, the app icon displays a red badge that indicates the number of new or updated issues. "
So, I think it answers my question regarding Multi-folios. But still, I suppose yes, but I need to be sure: do Single Apps built in Pro Editions works the same?

  • Why is Photoshop only £8.78 a month when a single app is £17.58?

I am thinking of getting Photoshop at home to edit my photos, etc. and notice that it is available for just £8.78. Is this offer exclusively for photographers or can anyone subscribe? As a single app purchase is £17.58, would I need to get this, and if so, do you get anymore than just the app with this purchase  - which one should I be getting?! And as a final question, would I be able to use the application on more than one machine - my desktop and laptop, for instance?
    Thanks in advance.

The photography program is open to anyone, but it really only includes PS and LR. If you need another program, you have to use a different CC plan. You have two activations for any flavor of CC and thus can use your software on two machines non-concurrently.

  • Single Edition still iPad only?

Just wondering if this is still the case?

Will a Single Edition appear in Apple's Newstand, where you can search for periodicals, or just in the general App Store?
I have a client who publishes two print issues (per year) and they flat-out rejected my proposal for the Professional Edition based on costs.  I'm trying to come up with a cheeper alternative for them.

  • Social Sharing on Single Folio built with Professional Edition

Is there a work-around for enabling social sharing on a single edition (non-subscription) app built with the professional edition of dps? Could I treat the app in the App Builder as a single edition, multi-folio somehow?

PS is part of the photography plan, so your single app plan is redundant.
