Professional Edition vs. Single Edition

Hi,
In my company we have the Professional Edition license, but want to change to the Single Edition version because is cheaper.
In the Adobe website  I've been reading the comparative for the different versions but there are several things that I haven't understand too much.
I can only create applications with a single .folio?,
I only could sell it in the Apple Store?
Ionly could make ipad applications or for Android too?
I will appreciate that someone can clarify me this points.
Thanks.

Single Edition/CCM:
I can only create applications with a single .folio?, Yes, Built in Single Folio only.
I only could sell it in the Apple Store? Yes, Only iPad apps currently and you can sell only on Apple Appstore
Ionly could make ipad applications or for Android too? Only iPad Apps, Android is not available with DPS SE/CCM
And if  I have the Single Edition and I need to make a puntual multi issue? No, you cannot create Multi issue apps or Newstand apps with DPS SE/CCM.

  • Clarity on Single Edition vs. Professional Edition

    Hi Guys,
    I am just trying to make the decision on whether I need the professional edition or whether it’s not worth it. I was hoping some of the regulars here might be able to answer a few questions;
What happens if you buy 10,000 folios and you sell 10,001… does it automatically top up, do you get billed later, or is that extra person blocked from downloading the app until you buy more folios?
What happens with your unused folios – do they simply become available to the next product you release? What happens if you cancel your subscription, or never sell more than 10,000? Are they refunded?
If you have the Professional Edition, can you choose to still release apps as a single edition (as in free of the folio download costs) when required?
Is there any way you can release an App through the single edition service, whereby it has an expiry date. For example, if the user downloads the app and in three months you want to make it so they can’t open the app again (they have to buy a new issue, for example) can you do that?
I currently have a Creative Cloud membership, which comes with the Single Edition DPS. If I roll over into the Professional Edition, does it replace my existing package? So I have Creative Cloud plus the PE features?
    Many thanks
    Chris

I'll answer the ones I know for sure off the top of my head.
    2. Unused folios are available for any issues and publications you produce under your professional edition account. You can have multiple titles available, for example, and they all share the same bundle of folio downloads. If you cancel your subscription they are gone and are not refunded.
    3. Yes.
    4. No.
    5. They are separate. Professional Edition *only* gives you DPS publication capabilities. You still need to maintain your Creative Cloud subscription if you want access to Adobe software like InDesign, Photoshop, etc.

  • If we upgrade to a Professional Edition DPS license can we create an unlimited number of Single edition apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices?

I work for a organisation based in Sydney and we have a team license for creative cloud (single edition).
We have been producing single folio apps for the iPad and want to continue this through 2015.
At the moment we can only create apps for the iPad platform.  If we upgrade to a Professional Edition DPS license can we create an unlimited number of Single edition apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices?
We do not need multi-folio apps as we are not a publishing company.

    Thanks Neil
I sent an email yesterday and am awaiting a reply.  Here is my email for reference.

I work for a large organisation based in Sydney and we have a team license for creative cloud (single edition).
We have been producing single folio apps for the iPad through Indesign and the App builder.  We now want to produce apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
If we upgrade to a Professional Edition DPS license can we create an unlimited number of apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices?
We are not a publishing company so we will produce a small number of the apps.  If you could get back to me with a solution and approx price that would be great.
    Thanks for your time

  • Switching from Professional Edition to Single Edition

    Hello,
I am considering downgrading my app from Professional Edition to Single Edition with the CC. I have some questions I cannot find on the FAQ.
How do fulfillments work for a Single Edition?
Our app is free. Do we still have to purchase fulfillments? Are unlimited downloads/views included?
    Is the webviewer option available?
Can I submit and launch additional single folio apps upon approval from iTunes?
Are single edition apps available for iPad only?
I am finding conflicting information. On the comparison chart it shows that you can PREVIEW your app on multiple devices. Can I launch an app on iPhone, Android and iPad?
I currently meet all the neccessary requirements for my app. Certificates, Apple Dev license, and everything is set up with iTunes Connect. Can this information "roll over"/be applied if I cancel my professional Edition and move to the CC Single Edition?
    Is social sharing available?
Your help is appreciated. Thank you

How do fulfillments work for a Single Edition?
There are no fulfillments in Single Edition. The content is packaged into the app you submit to Apple. Bob Levine has a good place that explains the basics of Single Edition vs. multi-issue apps: http://boblevine.us/digital-publishing-suite-101-single-edition-vs-multi-folio-apps/.
    Is the webviewer option available?
    No.
Can I submit and launch additional single folio apps upon approval from iTunes?
With a Creative Cloud account you can currently create as many Single Edition applications as you want, but those are individual applications. See the link I posted above for more details on this.
Are single edition apps available for iPad only?
Correct. Single Edition apps are only supported for iPad.
Can this information "roll over"/be applied...
Your iTunes developer account and certificates are completely independent from DPS. You can use the same developer account and certificates to create Single Edition apps as a Creative Cloud customer.
    Is social sharing available?
    No.

  • Social Sharing on Single Folio built with Professional Edition

Is there a work-around for enabling social sharing on a single edition (non-subscription) app built with the professional edition of dps? Could I treat the app in the App Builder as a single edition, multi-folio somehow?

    no.

  • Professional Edition - Single app only?

I heard from my reseller today that from now on the DPS Professional Edition will only allow development of a single app. Is this correct?
    Greg

The price gouging is really how you look at the product-- or more importantly what your client produces with DPS.
If you are a traditional magazine or periodical publisher. Chances are the the $4800 over a year is a drop in the bucket compared to traditional press costs (even factoring in the folio download fee). However, where I was getting the most intereset with DPS was from non-traditional publishers who were looking to essentially create their own newsstand or library. Lot of non-profits, associations and schools which have lower print runs and liked their content being able to live in an app. I have a feeling that in another year they will be looking for another option and I will be the one with egg on my face assuming no changes from Adobe. We charged a platform fee as well but it wasn't close to $4800 per App so for some it will be tough to swallow. Plus I'll have to go back to other companies who have had an interest and let them know of the news.
Don't know what is possible in terms of code with DPS and distribution channels. But I'd like to see unlimited multi-folio "free" apps remain with Professional Edition meaning you're not charging app, issue or subscription fees through the distribution channels...i.e. free app, free content (essentially current model without the ability to cahrge for apps) Then another Tier which would be "Professional Edition Profit" where you buy a single multi-folio license with the intent to sell content or the app (what the new model is proposed to be). Would have broader market reach, capture more clients and folio downloads.

  • How the download folios bundle work with Professional Edition?

    Hello everyone,
I have been trying to get information about some specific questions without luck.
    This is the scenario:
We need to develop a newsletter for a company using the Apple Enterprise membership.  First wave will be iOS devices only.  Second wave will include Android devices.  The newsletter will have around 4 issues per year.
    1) Using montlhy membership, are the folio downloads accumulative?  Newsletter1, Newsletter2 will give us 500 downloads for the first year?  And after that, purchasing the 10,000 will distribute the downloads between all of the folios we have published?  The number of available downloads are assigned to the user profile instead of individual apps?
    2) Does the folio downloads expire?
    3) If we are not using iTunes to distribute the newsletter, how do we keep track of the downloads? Does this happen in the application when installed?  And this opens the question if we really need the download fee if we are not using iTunes?
    4) If using the Creative Cloud (which only works with iOS devices) will gives us unlimited downloads, right?  Does this type of folio work with the Apple enterprise membership?
    5) If we create the first wave using the Creative Cloud service, and later we get the Professional Edition, can we "transfer" folio information from the CC to the new Service?
    I already called:
877-792-3623 as published on the professional's edition page (they say only can help with Enterpise) and sent me to 1800-443-8158 (Volume Licensing) which didn't know the answers.
I'm trying this way because it was kind of frustrating trying to find the answers by phone.
Please, any help would be great.

    1) I'm not sure what you mean by "accumulative". See http://www.adobe.com/products/digital-publishing-suite-pro/buying-guide-pricing.html for the included downloads. If you buy monthly then you get 250 downloads per month, and only one month worth will carry forward. If you buy the annual version you get 5,000 downloads, but again, those do not roll over to your next year of service. Folio bundles apply across all publications in your account, not to an individual application.
    2) The ones included in your monthly or annual subscription expire at the end of each month or year. A folio bundle purchase expires one year after the date of purchase.
    3) For calculating download bundle consumption that's all done by the application itself, not iTunes. The DPS dashboard at http://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com/ will show you the download counts for your publications.
    4) Creative Cloud only gives you access to building Single Edition applications. That's a complete, self-contained, application with your content inside. There is no ability to download additional content into the application, and therefore no download charges and no "unlimited" downloads. It's just a single, self-contained, application in the app store.
    5) If you start with a Single Edition application and then want to switch to a multi-issue application you'll need to make a new multi-issue application with App Builder and submit it to iTunes as an update to your existing application. Your existing content used to build the SE application can easily be re-published (if necessary) so it shows up in the new multi-issue application. Your readers will see an app update available, download it, and then have the multi-issue experience inside the app. If you are charging for the newsletters it will be problematic granting previous purchasers of your Single Edition application rights to the same content in the multi-issue application.

  • Creative Cloud Membership Vs. Professional Edition DPS Subscription

    Hello,
After reading the buying guide and going through many of the previous discussions in the forum, I just need to confirm a number of points
1- With Creative Cloud Membership - I can publish unlimited Single Issue apps without any extra cost, is that correct ?
2- Lets assume that after one year of Creative Cloud Membership, I do not renew (not my intention, but want to know), the Single Issue Apps will remain in the App Store, and those already published apps has nothing to do with my annual membership. is that correct ?
3-For the professional Edition, I can create unlimited Single Issue Apps, and unlimited Kiosk/Newstand apps, is that correct ?
4- Lets assume that with professional edition, I created 3 newsstand apps (multi issue), Are the download bundles purchased specific to the overall account ? or are they specific to each newsstand app ? or do I have the option to choose between those two options ?

    1. No additional cost to Adobe. You still need an Apple Developer account for $99/year.
    2. Correct
    3. Correct.
    4. Overall account and there's no other option, as far as I know.

  • Does the Professional Edition require an Apple Computer to Publish?

Does the Professional Edition require an Apple Computer to Publish like the Single Edition does? Are there other restrictions that I may not be aware of if I go the PC route?
I can' seem to find that information.

OK.... So, do you need to have an app built if you go with the Professional Edition? At first I thought yes, but now I am realizing that with the Professional Edition, don't you get set up in the Newstand Store... which does or does not need an app??? And then what about the Kindle Fire and Android platforms... Do I have to manage all of those relationships myself or is that part of the professional package...
Again... if there is particular literature I need to look at... Please point me there.

  • Professional Edition and Apple

Like some others Im having issues with Apple rejecting DPS single edition folios as too "book-like for app store".
Can anyone advise if professional edition suffers same fate and also if Professional edition allows publishing to selected ipad devices bypassing the app store - or is that just the Enterprise Edition?
Im worried as I have two Apps in development and I cant afford to spend 4 months developing something that cant be 'published' on an ipad. My clients would demand their money back!

Simon, I am also worried about Apple and its attitude to DPS.  In my situation I am thinking of making huge investments with Adobe and DPS but the policy with Apple rejecting ‘book-like’ apps may start to undermine Adobe and hinder development.
I am finding the trend of rejections on this forum increasing, in what seems to be a subjective area.  If I create a Publication with some links, videos and an open splash animation like some of the Magazines we see in Newsstand, I fear that could be also at risk of being having my own developments rejected, and frankly it worries me.  This may obstruct DPS developing with Apple, however I hope I am wrong.
What am I to say to a business who decide to put their literature or sales catalog onto the app site, spending hours having drafts and developments signed off to have to go back to the organisation and say, we have to change it, Apple do not approve, its unprofessional.
I believe there needs to be a meeting of the minds with Adobe and Apple to bring some certainty of what will be accepted and what will be rejected, rather than a situation of roulette that we seem to be experiencing at the moment.
As a business model, I need more certainty if I am to proceed development and my risks mitigated.
I hope that I am misguided.
    Mik

  • Cost per download in Professional Edition?

What, if any, cost is there per download from Adobe in DPS Professional Edition?
Another thing: As a Professional Edition subscriber can I still create Single edition apps?
I ask this here because it is very difficult to get this info on your site.
    Thank you, Yngvi

Oddly, DPS Pro accounts are still on sale - speak to your Adobe representative in your region. They will be able to tell you how much, and also how many downloads you get with the account. And additionally the cost of fulfilment bundles of 1,000 etc.
If DPS Pro accounts aren't on sale in your region, you need to request a quote from your Adobe rep in your region, with specific app details, platforms, how many apps, how many downloads would you expect, and so on.

  • Professional Edition (multi folio) support for Education Models

We are in the Education Sector and want to have a multi folio APP based on a Course. The Course would be based on the Year of study.  Business Studies 2013
We would then deploy an APP  for Business Studies 2013 which will be free and have a FREE folio as an introduction. Then a subscriber to the course material will have access (at a cost) to the actual teaching material Marketing, Finance, Operations and they can elect which ones they would want.
Realise that the Professional Edition supports the multi folio model but does it support it in this way or are we limited to models based on Free-subscription or Auto-renewable subscription which suggests newspapers or periodicals.
    Thanks
    Cameron

You can do this and just make a viewer that does single issue purchases only via iTunes.

  • Professional Edition for quarterly

I'm trying to build a quote for a small quarterly magazine using DPS professional edition.
Can the magazine buy a monthly account and only pay the months they're publishing (495x4) or do they need an annual account (5,940) to keep the pass issues up on newsstand?
    Thanks for your help,
    drhounsell

    That's a shame.
I've been doing single edition app for a little while now and love DPS. I have had a couple small magazine ask me about getting on newstand but 6k is a lot for smaller less frequent Mags to pay.
Hope adobe introduces options for smaller publications in the future.

  • Professional Edition Month-by-Month

We are creating a digital magazine using Adobe's Publishing Suite. However, I have a question.
I want to create multi-folios under one magazine title so people can subscribe to the magazine. The professional edition offers that. But if I cancel my subscription and resubscribe later, can I continue creating folios under that title?
We are only releasing four editions of our magazine a year. So it doesn't make sense to purchase a full year's worth. So can I subscribe for a month, cancel my subscription, then resubscribe three months later and release a new folio (edition) under that same magazine title? Or do I lose access to my titles when I unsubscribe?
And when I unsubscribe, will my magazine/folios be taken off the app store?
We do have Creative Cloud if that makes a difference.
    Thanks!

Its a shame there isn't a halfway house between single edition and Professional, over £300 per month is a barrier to entry for small design agencies that have maybe just a few clients that want a digital publication service. Its not a big cost if you have lots of clients regularly using it, but getting a step on the ladder is costly
