Proffesional services vs Application

Hi,
We are trying to decide the responsibilities of our application team (developers and application specialists) VS the professional services team.
Our application team know the sharepoint Central Admin very well and config all the services themselves but so does the PS team, we try finding a microsoft best practice on who should manage the farm (App or PS team) but cant find one.
We feel that the PS team shuold install the farms, service packs, deal with hardware and communication issues and leave the ongoing CA manage to the App team simply beacuase the App team is the one building the application and they know exactly what is needed.
Is there a MS best practice ?
Who manage the Central Admin in your organization ?

The role of maintaining and updating SharePoint should be entirely defined by the business it serves to serve. This is one of the cases where 'best practice' is an unhelpful term as the best solution for one company may be radically different to anothers.
I would lean towards the PSG group, by forcing the Devs to hand over to another seperate group it tends to enforce a higher standard of code (or so goes the theory) and forces them to make sure that documentation and processes are right before trying a deployment.
Secondly while a developer might know SharePoint's front end and administration model well they shouldn't know it as well as a SharePoint administrator.
In the end the administration of SharePoint often ends up with neither the PS or App teams but the IT support team, who often have the least SharePoint knowledge of the three but are better geared up for the support role. If your PS team is heavily utilised
then it can take a long time to get even simple things scheduled in and the same goes for Developers.

  • One of cloud doesn't work in failover with Event ID 1205 and 1069 and unable to move services and application another node

    Any one please respond.
    I've been working on creating a windows server 2008 R2 cluster for about a month now and I keep getting an error whenever I try to add a 2nd node. I keep
    getting The cluster node is not reachable. However, when I validate the configuration, everything goes through success. I created and destroyed the cluster a couple of times, but no luck. I even re-installed Windows Server 2008 R2 on both servers, re-configured
    the iSCSI, and the same warning keeps coming up.
    I installed a new a new SQL Server 2008R2 Named Instance on an exisiting SQL Server cluster node (Node 1 &Node2). When I try to manually fail
    over
    the Services and applications  to another node (Node1 to node2) using Failover Cluster Manager, I get the errors
    The cluster has these Events:
    Event ID
    1069: Cluster resource 'IP Address xx.xx.xx.xx' in clustered service or application 'ClusterDtc' failed.
    Event ID 1205:The Cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'ClusterDtc' completely online
    or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service or application..

     We are looking for an option either to get the driver signed or use a different signed adapter for the same. Could you please suggest us something on that line.

    Hello,
    Unfortunately this is not something that we would be able to do in a virtual environment; You are welcome to try different drivers however we would not be able to provide any support
    for untrusted drivers. The only true solution would be to upgrade from a VM to a dedicated server where you would have control of all the drivers as there is no virtualization layer to
     contend with. Stepping into the territory of untested drivers for a custom configuration in a virtual environment will certainly prove to be an uphill battle.
     I would advise contacting Microsoft's support for additional assistance as they will be able to provide the most accurate information regarding this concern.

    Hi...
    I have an IBM BladeCenter S with 3 blades and an IBM System Storage DS3300 (ISCSI).

  • Cluster Disk keeps going offline. Service or application failed

    We currently have 2 servers, both housing 3 VMs (6 nodes total).  2 Disk are used to house these VM's.  Cluster Disk 1 keeps going offline, which kicks 2 of our servers offline until we migrate the disk to another node (puts it into redirected
    mode).  We then have to restart the server to re-establish to connection to the cluster disk.  Digging around in event viewer, I saw the following:
    Cluster resource 'Cluster Disk 2' in clustered service or application 'b0a21897-e59b-46c9-a495-273dc5ad2aea' failed.
    Cluster physical disk resource 'Cluster Disk 2' cannot be brought online because the associated disk could not be found. The expected signature of the disk was '{92eb716c-6878-42ad-b7de-f3879d72e232}'. If the disk was replaced or restored, in
    the Failover Cluster Manager snap-in, you can use the Repair function (in the properties sheet for the disk) to repair the new or restored disk. If the disk will not be replaced, delete the associated disk resource.
    The Cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'b0a21897-e59b-46c9-a495-273dc5ad2aea' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service
    or application.
    I ran the cluster validation test and all seemed to check out except for Cluster Disk 1 and the two servers associated with this server, as shown below:
    Validating cluster resource Cluster Disk 2.
    This resource is marked with a state of 'Offline'. The functionality that this resource provides is not available while it is in the offline state. The resource may be put in this state by an administrator or program. It may also be a newly created
    resource which has not been put in the online state or the resource may be dependent on a resource that is not online. Resources can be brought online by choosing the 'Bring this resource online' action in Failover Cluster Manager.
    This resource is marked with a state of 'Failed' instead of 'Online'. This failed state indicates that the resource had a problem either coming online or had a failure while it was online. The event logs and cluster logs may have information
    that is helpful in identifying the cause of the failure.
    All disks are housed on our SAN.  Any idea where I can start troubleshooting further?  Changing the signature of the disk or finding out which application is failing?  All help is greatly appreciated.

    Please, help is greatly appreciated.  I have been trying to find a solution for almost a week.  I have a feeling this has to do with the disk.  We have 3 CSV's but the only ones in question are CSV 2 & 3. Cluster Disk 2 is the disk that
    keeps going offline.  Cluster Disk 3 has no problems at all.  They both are GPT volumes, however, after running a "cluster res", I received the following output:
    Listing private properties for 'Cluster Disk 2':
    T  Resource             Name                           Value
    D  Cluster Disk 2       DiskIdType                     1 (0x1)
    D  Cluster Disk 2       DiskSignature                0 (0x0)
    S  Cluster Disk 2       DiskIdGuid                     {92eb716c-6878-42ad-b7de-f3879d72e232}
    ===============================================================
    Listing private properties for 'Cluster Disk 3':
    T  Resource             Name                           Value
    D  Cluster Disk 3       DiskIdType                     1 (0x1)
    D  Cluster Disk 3       DiskSignature                 994692308 (0x3b49ccd4)
    S  Cluster Disk 3       DiskIdGuid                     {4f27bc43-6964-466e-a77d-2321b2b0b718}
    =============================================================
    As shown, cluster disk 1 has a disk signature but NOT a diskID.  Cluster disk 2 as a DiskID but NOT a signature.  It may be beneficial to add that cluster disk 3 used to be an MBR disk.  Not sure if that makes any difference given the output
    above...Performing DISKPART on the same disks shows the following (Don't mind the naming scheme, I know it can be a bit confusing)
    Disk 1 (Cluster Disk 2):
    HP P2000G3 FC/iSCSI  Multi-Path Disk Device
    Disk ID: {92EB716C-6878-42AD-B7DE-F3879D72E232}
    Disk 3 (Cluster Disk 3):
    HP P2000G3 FC/iSCSI  Multi-Path Disk Device
    Disk ID: {4F27BC43-6964-466E-A77D-2321B2B0B718}
    ================================================================
    Comparing the two, it selects the correct DiskID that was taken from "cluster res" command.
    The error in my initial post states a signature was expected.  If I am not mistaken, in win2008 it uses "DiskSignature". The lack of this signature being populated for Cluster Disk 2 was resulting in the resources failing to come online.  So
    how can i go about fixing this signature issue.  Again, all help is appreciated since I am fairly new to all of this.

  • In cluster Manager there are no services and application listed on a node.. what does this mean?

    In Cluster Manager I can see two nodes listed.
    When I click on the first it lists the two SQL Server instances.
    On the other node there are no services and application listed....what does this mean?
    Mr Shaw

    Yes Instance A and Instance B will also be installed in the second node.
    Just go to configuration manager in the other node, you will see those instances in stopped state.
    Assume I install Instance A in a 2 node cluster with node A and Node B, it installs instanceA binaries in both nodes, What it does when failover is shutdown Instance A in Node A, move the disks to node B and start the instance A in the node B. Its basically
    the same instance.
    Regards, Ashwin Menon My Blog - http:\\sqllearnings.com
    Oh I get you..
    The missing bit on the puzzle is that the binaries are installed on both nodes at the same time.

  • Change "Services and applications" names in failover cluster manager

    Hi. Id like to change "Services and applications" names in failover cluster manager for Windows Server 2008 R2.
    I right click on one and press rename, but when i change the name and press enter i get the message "To rename this service or application please rename the Client Access Point via its property page"
    It's important that we don't change the network name for the service

    Hi,
    Checkout this blog post

  • "Services and Applications" is missing from the Failover cluster manager menu

    Hi,
    I am not sure this is the right group for my question, but I couldn't find anything else more suitable.
    In my Hyper-V installation (Windows 2012 Data Center), I am missing "Services and Applications". I am using Windows 8 to manage the cluster and I need this menu to import an existing VM into the cluster. How can I get this option or is there a
    software that I need to install?

  • Work Management Service (WMS) Application on mulit-farms

    Hi guys,
    Is there any limitation for configuration the Work Management Service (WMS) Application on multi-farms?
    I have 2 farms – farm A hosts all SAs and farm B hosts only web contents.
    I understand there is dependency between WMS and search and UPS. Does that mean I cannot deploy my WMS on farm A?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to configuration the Work Management Service (WMS) Application on multi-farms.
    Per my knowleadge, you can deploy Work Management Service on farm A.
    Though there is dependency between WMS and search and UPS, , some service applications such as Search and User Profile can be shared across server farms in SharePoint 2013.
    In addition, you can also configure a SharePoint Server 2013 content farm that receives search queries to trust the SharePoint Server 2013 farm that sends the queries.
