Profibus + Comsoft DF Profi II + Slaves

i have problem with configurator,
i followed the steps as per http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/6959
intalled the card,
specified the master, the 2 slave, did mentioned the inputs and output bytes as per slaved, addressed slaved as 3 and 4 and master as 1, specified master as a single master. Buad rates are within Slaves limits.
downloaded them in the Comsoft DF Profi II PXI card.
BUT when i try to monitor by clicking Monitor/ Modify, it never turns GREEN. sometimes turns RED otherwise BLUE.
i checked the signal on an Oscilloscope, signal is coming just fine, like RS485. Wire are connected just fine.  the master is just at a 3 feet from slaves. and slaved are just placed beside eachother.
i have also used the terminating resistors at start and finish.
i am using a PXI as master, Comsoft DF Profi II PXI card and two D Max Lateral Web Controllers (http://fife.maxcessintl.com/guiding/d-max-operator-interface) as Slaves.
I am using the Configuator II provided by the Comsoft Card.
Can someone guide me what i am missing??

  • Comsoft DF Profi II+PXI1042Q+Real-Time OS +S7 317T

Hello,I have received a Comsoft DF Profi II Boad from NI. I would like to set up communication between Comsoft DF Profi II Boad  and PLC. PLC works as Master and Comsoft DF Profi II Boad with PXI-1042Q works as Slave. The embeded controller is PXI-8108 that runs a Real-Time OS. I have installed the driver and hardware following the NI document. But I have failled. The problom is that:
    1. The Comsoft DF Profi II Boad has not been driverd beacouse no LED is ON;
    2. when I have changed the 1042Q,and have used a PXIe chassis, then the Comsoft DF Profi II Boad works well.
    3. when the controller PXI8108 runs the windows OS, the Comsoft DF Profi II Boad  with PXI1042Q works well.
    4. But I  just want it to works under RT Operation Systerm and use the PXI1042Q(with 8 chassises).
    5. My Labview vision is 8.6.1 and VISA is 4.5.
Now I am not sure whether the PXI-1042Q Chassis that runs a Real-Time OS can driver the Comsoft DF Profi II Boad. How can I do ?
Anyone else can help me ? thank you .

Have you installed the Comsoft Profibus traget driver to your RT controller?
Sounds like a dumb question, but is the most overlooked detail from my experience.

  • NI-Profibus Comsoft Driver not working in built exe

I've been using Profibus in ETS for a long time.  I just starting having a problems when I upgraded to 2011 SP1 f1.  The problem only occurs in built exe's.  I made a simple project (see attached) with the Comsoft example VI (DFP2_DP-SlaveExample.vi).  Everything works fine in development mode by clicking the run arrow.  If I build the VI into and exe and deploy, it reports the following error in right after DFP2_Initialisation.vi:
Error 1055 occurred at Property Node in DFP2_DP-SlaveExample.vi
    Possible reasons:
LabVIEW: The object reference is invalid
    Here my setup:
    Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 32-bit
    Labview (32-bit) 11.0.1f1 (2011 SP1 f1)  (patch from here)
    Labview Real-Time ETS (11.0.1)
    DF_PROFI_II_LV_1.36.2
    NI Part# 780160-01 (Profi-2-PCI)
This seem to be a new problem since I patched Labview 2011 SP1 with f1.  Is it possible the patch is not compatible with Labview Real-Time and the Comsoft VISA driver?  Can I roll back the f1 patch?  If so, how?

    Hello David,
I was able to reproduce this issue in LabVIEW 2011 SP1 (without the f1 patch) using a very simple program that does nothing besides produce a heartbeat and access a property node of a front panel indicator. As you said, it does not occur in LabVIEW 2010 SP1, and it does not occur unless the front panel is closed. The error didn't even happen when I was using remote debugging on the executable.
I will be looking into this further, and I'll keep you posted. For now it sounds like you were able to just modify the code to not use those property nodes.

  • S7-300 with comsoft df profi II

I'm trying to use a DF PROFI II CPCI card in my PXI to communicate with a Siemens S7-300 PLC.  The data I am sending is a 32-bit value.  Siemens claims that it will spread this value over 4 bytes automatically.  My problem is I am only getting the first byte.  The next 3 bytes are zero's, then I get the first byte of my next value.
Is there a setup procedure to allow this?  Is my problem in the PLC?
Thanks for any help I can get.
    Ralph

I have a screen shot showing the "consist" at the end of the choice for I/O.
I still don't have it figured out.  I had to start from scratch with this.  The equipment that I need to put this on has become unavailable for a while.  In the mean time, I am working in a Lab setting, which should isolate a few things.
Thanks again for any help you can provide.

  • How to configure and test Profibus network using NI part number 780161-01 Master/Slave interface

I have purchased this board from NI. I have been in touch with Comsoft who it appears is the developer of this board. I have used the configurator II to try and build the network. The GSD file for my slave board is entered. I also can see the GSD file for the master. There appears to be no obvious way to test the bus from the configuration tool. I have tried the Express VI provided by Comsoft. Nothing happens. I have a purchased profibus cable with terminations installed. I know the cable works as another division has another Profibus master that does work using this cable How do I configure correctly for sure? How do I test?
    Thanks
    Rick
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Rick,
First, ensure that you have the correct drivers installed on your system:
Make sure NI-VISA 4.2 or later is installed on your system.
    First install 1.3x.x COMSOFT driver
Second install a DF PROFI II Slave and Master board in your PC-System.
    Reboot your computer System.
Install the NI-PROFIBUS driver, instructions can be found here.
However, it sounds to me like you may have an issue with your bus configuration or with the GSD file. First, did you obtain the GSD file from the manufacturer or from profibus.com?
Also, common issues with the configuration include specifying an improper baud rate (supported baud rates can be found here), or an incorrect PROFIBUS address. Were you able to successfully save the bus configuration and generate the configuration database? Were you able to load the configuration database into the master device successfully as well?
If you are unable to resolve this issue, can you provide me with some more information about your system setup and error? What PXI chassis are you using, version of LabVIEW, operating system? What devices are you testing on the bus?

  • DF Profi II Zeros Problem

    Hello everyone,
i have a problem with a DF Profi II board, a Comsoft product made for profibus networking. I'm using a PXI 8110 with the board installed, and labview 2013 (the PXI as real time target and my PC as host). Everything works well and i am able to acquire from the profibus network (PXI is the slave and a Numerical Control of a Milling Machine is the master); the only problem is that, quite frequently at random time stamps, the board gives a 0 for each channel i'm acquiring.
    Thanks and best regards.
    Mattia

I notice in each of the log files you see zeros at some multiple of your cycle time. At 1500kB/sec I expect it to take around 1.3ms to updated your data. If you tried to read data while the master was updating it you might see weird behavior.  Also check all your error and statuses on the slave, you might be returning a code and just ignoring it.
Try seeing if your master supports consistency:
    What is Data Consistency
If a data format is selected that requires full data consistency, this
guarantees that the data on the Profibus is not updated with the new
data values until ALL data words have been written into the Profibus
    buffer memory.
Consistent data may be important when using the 4-word non-cyclic
data format. Without consistency, it is possible for 2 of the 4 words to
go on one network cycle, with the data value updated on the next cycle.
If the command was a write command, this could result in the previous
data value being written to the new parameter, and could have
    disastrous consequences.
Using data consistency can often put restrictions on data manipulation
within the master controller, and may require the use of special
functions within the master controller, and these can take longer to
execute. (Consult the supplier of the master controller for further
    information
or try increasing your baud rate.

A quelle condition (H, T) ?
    Bon courage

  • Configuration of Comsoft cRIO Profibus Module

I am having trouble configuring a Comsoft cRIO Profibus Master/Slave Module (NI Bundle Part Number 781352-01) as a Profibus Master. I am following the DP Master-Getting Started manual version 1.8/23.07.2012 (see attached file) and I am in Section 3.1 where you go online and select the module in the COMSOFT Configurator II software. Figure 6 in the manual shows a hardware device in the Hardware Selection window. On my system there are no devices shown in this window. The next step the manual suggests is  "If nothing is displayed click the VISA-Config-Button to rescan the available cRIO system." I have tried this step and still no hardware is displayed in the Hardware Selection window.
My laptop is a MacBook Pro using a virtual machine (VMWare Fusion V5.0.3) with Windows 8 as the OS. I am able to communicate with the cRIO with no issues from the virtual machine but this is the first time I am trying to configure a module in the cRIO.
Here are some details about my system and the software installed:
    Hardware:
    cRIO 9068
Comsoft cRIO Profibus DP Master/Slave Module (NI Individual Part Number 150251A-01) installed in Slot 1 (no other modules installed)
    Software:
LabView 2013 Professional Development with RT, FPGA, DSC modules
    NI-VISA V5.4.0
    Comsoft Configurator II V1.2.44
    Comsoft cRIO PB V1.1.10
Please let me know if anyone has any ideas.

Thanks for the feedback. I have been working with another NI Applications Engineer on this issue, and I fould out the following:
    1. This Profibus module is designed to work with the 911x series cRIOs. I have a cRIO 9068. I understand a driver for this cRIO will be release sometime 1st quarter of next year.
    2. I am using LabView 2013 and Windows 8. Because of this combination, it appears thst the Comsoft Configurator II software that came with the module doesn't install all required components.
I have installed a newer version of the Comsoft Configurator that was proided to me by the NI Applications Engineer, and also a beta driver for the cRIO. It is working now, and I am able to download configurations to the Profibus module. I will have some Profibus Remote I/O soon that I can use to test.

  • PROFIBUS configuration en COMSOFT

    Buenas,

    Hi Elferno,
I am going to answer this question in English.  I apologize.  I'll provide a Google Translation in case, it will probably not make much sense.
Which cRIO device are you attempting to use? Currently, newer cRIO chassis (9066, 9067, 9149 and 903x series are not supported for the Configurator tool). Which PROFIBUS module are you currently using? There is one that is both a Master and Slave and one that is just a Slave.  Make sure to follow the steps in the manual titled Installation, to ensure NI-VISA settings are correct.
    Thanks!
    Google Translation:

  • NI-PCI Profibus card and Comsoft

I'm using the NI-PCI Profibus card with COMSOFT Configurator II tool and GSD file for my level device (radar).
This NI-PCI Profibus card is configured master and my level device in slave.
I also use the Comsoft Labview "DFP2_DP-MasterExample.vi".
I communicate easily with my level device. I get information as the level and distance (cyclic communication, Block module=Analog input).
How can I do to get the other informations from my level device, the serial number of device, the software revision (acyclic communication) and programmatically change the profibus address ?
Normally, the software revision is in Physical block, index 8 and the serial number is in Physical block, index 12. But these data are not in GSD files.
Thank you, in advance for your help.

    Hi ggr,
From the cRIO side it sounds like you need a DPV1 connection. That should be possible and is explained on page 22 of the attached manual, which should also be in the start menu. Is that what you are looking for?
As to what command you need to send, if you have the technical manual for the device I think we can figure it out from that. Do you have a manual?

  • Profibus indicator lights/Comsoft Configurator "Online" menu not displaying

Questions from customer having trouble with recent PCI profibus card.
    1. I have not seen any of the three indicators light up on the card since I have installed it. The card shows up in the Windows device manager as well as the NI-Max "Devices and Interfaces". I can "Open a VISA Test panel" and see "Stuff", so I assume that the card is functioning. Now to my question: Shouldn't one of the three indicators blink or something, if even to indicate that there is some kind of fault?
    2. Following the instructions on the white paper, I have opened Comsoft's Configurator 2 application. The example shows there being an "Online" menu selection. I do not see this on my screen. I do not see a way to add the card from the Configurator 2 software, so I am not sure that I can go any further. Is there any more detailed documentation available concerning the addition of a card using the Comsoft Configuration tool?

    Hi Kurt,
You may contact me via e-mail to discuss this further.
    1)  The customer must explicitly follow the steps laid out in the Getting Started PDF.  If it isn't followed, the card may not appear correctly in MAX.  The Getting Started PDFs are installed with the COMSOFT VISA driver.  Please ensure the customer has PXI/PCI version of the driver installed.   The card should be appropriately identified in Device Manager and in MAX afterwards.  When the card is accessed for the first time, then the ON LED will illuminate.  The RUN will come on when we are attempting to do PROFIBUS communication.  BF will come on only if we have an error on the bus.  So until the card is accessed by code, none of the LEDs will come on.
    2) I think a step may have been missed here.  The online menu will not show up until a new project has been created in the Configurator.  After that, the online menu will appear.
Let me know if you have any additional questions.
    Thanks!

  • DF Profi II Set Slave Address.

What is the content of the telegram the DF PROFI II board sends when it is a master and the Set Slave Address is Sent from the configurator II software?  I am designing a slave with a settable address and can't get this function to work.  All I get a is "fault" in the Status. I've tried numerous combinations and am now leaning towards the DF Profi II isn't sending the correct telegram to SAP 55. I don't have a bus analyzer so I was hoping someone here might know.
Any Help with this would be appreciated.
    Regards
    John

    Hi Dirk
    Thank you for your response.
The Set Slave address dialog is available in configurator II under the online menu selection. It is only available if the gsd has Set_Slave_Add_supp=1. I was hopoing someone has a bus analyzer and can tell me what the content of the telegram is that they see. It should be minimum of 4 bytes
    byte 0  New Slave address
    byte 1  Ident HI
    byte 2  Ident Lo
byte 3  future change address not allowed.
If anyone has a bus analyzer and can tell me what they recieve on SAP 55 when they hit they try to set slave address it would help me out.
    Regards.

  • Using cRIO Profibus master/slave module with Siemens device. Looking for GSD file

Using cRIO Profibus master/slave module with Siemens device. Looking for GSD file. Would NI or Siemens be able to provide this?

    Hey Kurt,
For Profibus, only the slave needs to be defined with the GSD file, so you would likely get that from Siemens if their device is acting as the Slave in this setup. If you are using the NI Profibus module as a slave, then the GSD is automatically included with the driver.
Take a look at the following article for more info on how to use the included GSD file.
