Profile-based Lens Vignette Correction for Nikon 18-200 - Not Even Close!

Wow. I'm in the process of converting some of my photos from PV2003 to PV2010 and I've been discovering that the profile based lens vignette corrections for my 18-200 are way off. With a profile setting of 100, I have to add a manual amount of about -40 at a midpoint of 95-ish to even it out. DxO's correction is perfect without tweaking - so I know its not a peculiarity of my lens.
PS - The Make, Model, & Profile appear to be correct.
(I haven't checked my other lenses very closely - but I will be)
Anybody else?

Yes there are two user contributed profiles. You can download and use it using Adobe's lens profile downloader tool.

Don't own that lens so I cannot vouch for how good the profiles are but the one done on the D700 is probably the highest quality judging from the number of focal lengths included.

Lens Correction For Nikon 24-120

I use this lens as a periodic walk around lens. As it does not show up in LightRoom 3 Lens Correction Develop module, I have to export the nef file into CS5 and open lens crrection there. It still does not show up but if I do a search there within that Lens Correction filter, it is found and I can apply the correction, and then take the .psd file now back to LightRoom 3. Now I have two files. The original .nef file and a psd file, the latter of which only has the lens correction applied to it.
Is there a way to d/l the lens correction profile for this lens and include it in the list already supplied by CS5 and LightRoom3. This really is a pain to correct the shot vis this method and a waste of time. Thanks for your help..

My OS is XP. Yes I found the folder you mention but don't see a list of
profiles in there. When you take the file into PS5 and go to Lens
Correction, the profile for that lens is not included. But there is a search
capability there which when hit, searches the web for the profile and brings
up the Nikon profile for that lens. It is probably made by Nikon itself. It
is not marked as a community profile but as a Nikon profile for that lens..
I should send you a jpeg file with that lens and let you go into CS5 and
Lens Correction and do the search at which time you will see what I am
referring to. Unless you have this lens yourself, you would be able tyo do
the same thing.
I don't know if I am making myself clear here. It is not a community profile
that is found in the search in CS5 but is listed as a Nikon profile for the
24-120 lens. I don't use this lens that much but do periodically use it as a
walk around lens.

Queries based on Master data for the particular periods not working

Hi,
My Queries are based on master data and for 2007 we did not have customer groups define hence for the historical also we would like to display the customer groups hence we are reproting based on master data. But when iam executing my reprots for each and every month for the 2007 , i can able to execute the reprot properly but same when iam giving the values in ranges with the help of input filed ( calender month -interval) its taking hours but unable to retrieve the data for the 6 months at a time even if iam restricting the values in the queries still the problem is same...
Can anyone has an idea what would be the problem .. its only for 6 months

Master data report consumes much time. try to see the Query Statistics and make the performance tuning.
Recheck your data flow for routines at TRules/upRules level.
Recheck on the Query designer for formula/ Cmod Variables.
The report fetching time even depends on the NO.of records too.

Adobe Camera Raw & lens correction for Nikon 105mm f/2.8 AF Micro

Adobe Camera Raw does not have a lens profile for the Nikon 105mm f/2.8 AF D Micro lens (the discontinued 105 mm - there is a profile for the new Nikon AF-S VR 105mm f/2.8 G IE-F). However, when lens corrections are enabled, ACR (and thus Lightroom too) selects the Sigma Macro 105mm f2.8 ex dg, Nikon Corporation - presumably the Nikon Corporation means this Sigma lens with a Nikon mount. This seems like a minor bug in ACR.
Is there a place to request Adobe create a profile for the Nikon 105mm f/2.8 AF D. There are a lot of these older lenses out there and it is a great lens.

There are indeed a lot of older (and still great) lenses out there, but unfortunately we can't build profiles for them all. This is one reason (a big reason) why we've provided the free Adobe Lens Profile Creator (ALPC) tool, so users can built their own (and share them, too). You can also check the free Adobe Lens Profile Downloader (ALPD) tool and see if other users have already built a profile for this lens.

Can I define an eligibility profile based on salary date for Comp Workbench?

We have a requirement to exclude employees from salary planning if they have already received a salary increase this year.
I navigated through different options in setting up eligibility profile, but was unable to find anything that referred to salary date.
I did find an option for User Defined Eligibility Criteria.
Can anyone confirm if this would be the correct place to define this criteria, and if so, give an example.

Lens models selectable for CR2 files, but not selectable for JPegs

When applying the lens profile for CR2 images, Lightroom displays in extensive list of lens models to choose from. The list for CR2 images includes the Canon 18-200 IS lens that I use. However when developing a JPeg only image, the lens model list only displays about 20 canon lens models - which unfortunately doesn't include the Canon 18-200 IS lens. Any help appreciated to enable selecting the full list for jpeg only files?

What you're seeing is what's available. The lens profiles are for either jpg or raw, and there are fewer jpg profiles.
You could download Adobe's free utility that creates lens profiles and roll your own, or use the lens profile downloader that comes with the aforementioned creator to possibly download a profile for your lens created by another user (if one exists).

On new Windows 7 laptop, copied my old profile from my old Windows Vista laptop, including saved password, but on new laptop, nothing happens at all when I click Remember for a new password. The password toolbar does not even close

I copied the profile as per Firefox instructions and bookmarks, etc are fine. It only appears to be the Save Password that is not working. Any ideas?

Hi, no passwords showed up in Tools, and I did copy both files.
However, I recopied these and this now seems to have corrected the issue (not sure why but I guess it must have been my mistake).

How to sync icloud with itunes have two different id's on ipod and password won't work for one of them not even the old one

I recently updated my itunes/istore id. Now my ipod touch won't recongized the id for the cloud. It works fine for the rest of the ipod but my old id (email) is still on for the cloud how do I change so all is the same. BTW the passwords old and new won't work with the old id... Should I put it back in?
Any help would be great!

Let me clarify if needed... the id I'm talking about is the email address...

Verizon VZAccess Manager (for broadband modem) will not even Force Quit

When I wake my MacBook Pro and launch VZAccess Manager it often hangsand Force Quit will not work (I didn't know that was possible). The only way to shut down is to press and hold the power button.
With each successive release of 10.5 my USB 727 modem driven by the VZAccess software is getting more finicky. I'm now making sure to disconnect and quit VZAccess before the MacBook Pro Intel goes to sleep. Since 10.5.6 this happens multiple times per day. I'm using the latest available VZAccess software.
A workaround that I would like: before installing VZAccess I got the modem to work just using the OS X network panel (WWAN / Other / Verizon 1xEVDO Modem Script). But now I can't get that to work, even when I Uninstall VZAccess.
Does anyone know a way to undo the actions of VZAccess beyond what VZAccess Uninstall does? Does VZAccess overwrite the Verizon 1xEVDO Modem Script supplied by Apple, and fail restore it when using Uninstall?
BTW, I've not been able to send the error report to Apple, because I'm in a rural location and don't have another way to connect to the Internet to report.

Contact Verizon. The problem is likely with their software not staying compatible. If they cannot provide a newer version of their software that is compatible then all you can do is downgrade to a previous version of Leopard with which their software worked. You can do that as follows:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

HT1386 iPhone is timing out when I plug it into itunes for the first time. not even registering

Just got an iPhone 5S. I went to go and plug it into to sync to iTunes. Upadated my iTunes to the latest version. I plug in th iPhone, yet nothing happens. After a few mintues it says the connection has timed out. Any help would be great.

Perspective/lens distortion correction

About the only thing I ever have to go out of LR2 to do is correct for perspective or for lens distortions (esp. on wide angle lenses). I know this might not be an easy thing to fit in the interface, but it'd be very useful. Especially if you can set it up to do a stored lens distortion correction for a given lens at a given focal lens (+ maybe focus distance).

I hope y'all don't mind if I think aloud a little more here.
We've been talking about perspective correction and lens distortion correction as if they were just about the same. They aren't.
Lens distortion correction is a fairly complex warp, but one that is completely determined by the lens and focal length (please corect me if I'm wrong). The main use of it would be to correct for the lens defects, not to create an artistic effect (like CA repair). It could therefore very reasonably be done as a preparation step, as with the Olympus cameras that actually store some correction information. It would be of relatively low user value to be able to change it later, and it would be much harder to implement.
Perspective correction is most definitely a user-driven correction. Not only does LR not stand a chance of figuring out what to do automatically, there would also be many cases where you'd want to correct in one dimension but not another, correct somewhat less that 100%, or in other ways fiddle with the amount of correction. Fortunately, it is a much simpler correction, merely the application of a small transformative matrix. Unlike lens distortion correction, it doesn't turn circles into strange wobbly shapes, but merely into ovals.
Let's take a look at the local adjustments: Crop, rotate, red-eye, spot removal, graduated filter and adjustment brush.
Crop would be well-nigh impossible to mix in with lens distortion correction, another reason to have the correction applied first. With regards to perspective, it should behave more or less like it does towards rotation.
Rotation can actually be done internally using the same operations that perspective correction would, but should probably still be separate in the interface.
Red-eye and spot removal both operate on horizontal-vertical ovals (restricted ovals for spot removal). These would be awful with user-adjusted lens distortion correction, even more reason to have that be an initial step. Perspective correction would stretch them somewhat. What happens when the user makes a dust spot fix, then fixes the perspective, then attempts to adjust the dust spot fix? We end up with the same situation as with vignetting: That there are pre- and post-crop versions. This distinction would now have to extend to pre- and post- crop+rotate+perspective adjustments. Obviously, you'd also want to be able to spot remove based on the corrected image, and it'd be strange to have a tool that's bent. It may be necessary to separate out dust spot removal from "subject matter removal" (including red-eye), as dust spotting should always be before perspective correction.
Graduated filter was really the thing that convinced me that the two corrections need to be split. Applying lens distortion correction after graduated filter would lead to a bent 'horizon line', a very bad thing indeed. Fortunately, it would be fairly resistant to perspective correction, though not entirely: If the horizon does not follow the perspective correction axis, the outer lines ought to tilt together. Probably overkill, though.
We already have an example of a similar situation: Red-eye removal and rotating. Try making a red-eye correction, then rotating the picture sharply. The red-eye oval will stay in the same position, even though that moves it from where it was supposed to be. I guess graduated filters could behave similarly.
The adjustment brushes are probably the simplest: Since they're already amorphous shapes, they can "simply" be bent and distorted along with the corrections and still make as much sense afterwards. Except if you want to use them to correct lens errors, but I don't know how often you'd want to do that.
Perhaps distortion correction and pre-crop vignetting should belong together. They would certainly interact.
