Profile Editor and DNG Profiles - Still Beta 2?

Are the DNG profiles and Profile Editor still at Beta 2? I am confused because the Adobe Labs DNG Profiles resources page (http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/DNG_Profiles) has not been updated since Oct 22 2008, but Lightroom 2.2 provides non-beta profiles. What is the present status?
Thanks.

It has been several months since I originally posted this inquiry and Thomas replied, and so I'm just checking again.
Has there been any update to the DNG Profile Editor since Beta 2 was made available? (and, if not, is there anything you can share about what's going on with this tool?)
I am continuing to use Beta 2 with successful results, but I am curious as to the status...
Thanks,

  • Camera Profiles and DNG Profile Editor beta 2 now available

    Hi everyone,
Beta 2 of the camera profiles and DNG Profile Editor are now available. Please visit here and enjoy:
    http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/DNG_Profiles
I hope to have more detailed release notes/changes for you soon. You are welcome to ask questions, but please note that it may take a while for me to respond.
    Eric

    Eric,
I followed very carefully your instructions for installing the new beta2 profiles and deleting the beta1 profiles, but have the same problems as many others. I'd like to provide a bit more information. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium and have installed Photoshop CS4, updated with ACR5.1 and Lightroom 2.1 final release. As others have described, the default for all of my images was set to one of the Camera profiles (Canon faithful beta1), but now the profile name in Lightroom is blank. I tried looking at the other profiles and it does indeed appear that the beta2 profile is being used, but if I then reset the image it now shows ACR4.4, whereas the image had been imported with the camera profile as default. Also, if I open an image in ACR5.1 that was specified to use the same camera profile, it now shows ACR4.4 and it is not using the beta2 profile of what I had been using, I can see this by selecting the other profiles. Going back to Lightoom, I guess I could select all my images and select the Canon faithful beta2 profile, but then the mark shows up bottom right of the image showing that they have all been edited/modified, is there anyway to get all my images using the profile I was using but the beta2 version, without this happening and how about new imports?
    Thanks, David.

  • Profile editor and LumixG1

I am runing all my cameras throught the profile editor (1.0.0.39) beta2 as I cannot find a newer version.  The three camera I am working with are the Canon 1DS2, Cannon Rebel XS and a lumix G1.  The rebel and 1ds2 work fine but when I try to open the G1's dng file (converted from the G1 Raw) the PE tells me its not a valid DNG file.  Am I missing someting ?  At first I assuemed the camera was too new but the Rebel XS was recognized.........

Try the software that comes with the x-rite ColorChecker Passport and see if it works any better.  It performs the same function as the DNG Profile Editor:
    http://www.xritephoto.com/ph_product_overview.aspx?ID=1257&Action=Support&SoftwareID=917
You will need to "register" with x-rite and login.
Alternatively, you can upload your CC G1 RAW and I'll try it in the DNG Profile Editor and/or the x-rite software.

  • Converting LUTs to Camera Profiles in the DNG Profile Editor

    Hi,
I've just started using the DNG Profile Editor, and can't seem to get the process right.
I have some film LUTs that I'd like to convert to camera profiles for my 5D Mk II.
Here's how I'm trying to do it, maybe someone can help me figure out what I'm doing wrong.
This is what I tried first:
    1. Take a Color Chart into Photoshop, apply the LUT via Color Lookup adjustment layer.
    2. Save out as 16bit TIFF
    3. Open as Camera Raw, then save out as DNG
    4. Open the adjusted color chart into DNG Profile Editor, run it through the color chart section to create a recipe of color adjustments.
    5. Export out as Camera Profile
But when I open up a 5D image in Lightroom, the profile doesn't show up in the list, so I realised maybe it needs to be saved specifically as a 5D profile, but I can't figure out how.
    If I:
    1. Do steps 1-4 as above
    2. Open a 5D DNG file so that I can set a 5D profile as the base profile
    3. Load the recipe
The color adjustments appear on the color wheel, but nothing happens to the 5D image, no colour change at all.
Exporting it (which does say 'Export as 5D profile') does then give me a profile that shows up in Lightroom, but it doesn't do anything to the image...
What's the correct way of doing this?
    Thanks!
    S

I don’t know claim to know anything about the internals of DNG Camera Profiles, but I’m pretty sure you cannot take a RGB-file (TIF/JPG) DNG and make a raw-file DNG Profile for use with your camera raws, which sounds like what you’re trying to do.
Despite looking like it might work in DNGPE, starting with an RGB-file recipe (rather than a RAW-file recipe) will only lock the specific colors on the color wheel, rather than create a raw-capable camera profile.

  • Camera Profiles and DNG Profile Editor

I saw the lightroom 2.0 eseminar and the presenter mentioned Camera Profiles and the DNG Profile Editor. All I see is ACR4.4 and 4.3. The the FAQ page says I need ACR4.5 and I can't find it and haven't gotten any update notice. Should I just wait for an update or forget it?
    Don

    >I have CS4. Will this overwrite ACR 5.1 in CS4?
If you have CS4, you should update to ACR 5.2. If you install 4.6, you will break your CS4 install. Either just run the Adobe updater app, or go to http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/new.jsp to download it. DNG converter is a separate download. Both camera RAW and NDG converter contain the final release version of the new profiles. DNG profile editor can still be downloaded from Adobe Labs: http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/DNG_Profiles. There is also a profiles download there that you don't need if you install DNG converter 5.2.

  • DNG Profile editor and white balance

I am very happy to see the practical realization of the extentions announced in the DNG 1.2 specification. This is a great step forward to achieve wide acceptance of DNG.
While reading the User's Guide, I found following statement (in the Tutorial 1):
    >3. (Optional) If the image is not already white-balanced, you can perform a click-WB using a context click
Why would one white balance here? What effect does that have on the result? The profile describes, which HSV will be converted in which HSV; this has nothing to do with the WB of a particular image.

The WB feature in the DNG Profile Editor (PE) is there because it is possible that you might open a DNG file in PE that has not already been white balanced. Imagine you photographed an image under tungsten lighting but had the in-camera WB manually set to daylight. If you didn't set the WB before converting the image to a DNG, it will appear very warm when you open it up in PE. So PE's WB feature is designed to save you time by letting you do a click-WB instead of having to go back to CR or LR to adjust the image's WB.
PE is named "profile editor" because it only edits profiles. It is not an image editor. So you are correct, you do not really need an image to edit profiles, technically. However, unless you have an image open you have no way to evaluate how good your adjustments are.
Typically the only reason to make a profile or edit a profile is if there's something about an existing profile that you're unhappy with. And you'd be unhappy because you'd have an example of a "problem" image, where the existing profile doesn't produce the result you want. That's the image you want to bring into the PE, so you can pick out the colors that are "wrong" and fix them.
Then ideally you would open many more images in PE just to verify that your adjustments generalize well.

  • Profile Editor and Olympus Pen E-P2

The DNG Profile Editor don't recognize DNG Files converted from Olympus Pen E-P2 ORF files.
I have used the latest DNG converter 5.6.0.148 and the DNG files I have obtained can be open in Lightroom 3 beta. But the profile editor can't open them.
I have used the Profile editor for several Olympus cameras without any problem.

I have found a solution : I open the dng file version 5.6 with Camera raw 5.6 and I choose to save the image using and older version (4.1 for exemple).
The dng file that I obtain can then be opened with the Profile editor.
It seems that the Profile Editor must be upgraded for the new version of DNG.

  • DNG Profile Editor (& new camera profiles)

Anybody who thinks Camera Raw can't pretty much nail the colors of the camera makers colors should check out http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/DNG_Profiles
You'll need Camera Raw 4.5 or Lightroom 2.0 to use the profiles...

    >I have one problem though... many of my photos of the color chart are overexposed?! I have color charts shooting with Nikon D3, D300, D700... many of them the editor think is overexposed. My Canon ones are ok (1Ds MKIII/1DMKIII/5D), but the Nikon ones are all overexposed....? Shot with Matrix in Av mode.
ACR and DNG assign a baseline exposure of +0.5 EV to Nikon D3 raw files, and I think does the same with the D300 and D700. This causes the image to appear over exposed when rendered in ACR. Many Nikon users use a default negative exposure correction of -0.5 EV in ACR to negate this baseline exposure. See the DNG specification for a description of the baseline exposure offset.
I don't know how this affects the new calibration procedure.

  • Capture nx 2 sharpening and DNG profiles..

I recently have had an (albeit quick) fiddle with nx 2 and was wondering if anyone else had noticed what I have...
    1. The sharpening in NX2 seems to yeild much nicer details and less "criss cross" artefacts.
    2. The DNG profile for nikon (in my case D3) vivid does match pretty well, but has a purple tinge to it that is horribly exaggerated if you start to process the image at all. The NX rendering seems a lot more natural, or less forced.
Any advice appreciated. I would love to stay in Lightroom for everything, but looking at the files I may not.
    Thanks.

ok, a little more playing and the colour noise reduction seems to play a very big part in the "poseriztion" sharpness that Lightroom is producing. If I set it to off or set lower than default (say to 10) it does help level the playing field a lot more with regards to the sharpening.

  • Right steps to use DNG Profile Editor and ACR

What is the right sequence of steps to do to use properly DNG PE and ACR ?
Must be converted the RAW in DNG directly, without open the RAW in ACR ?
Must be opened the RAW file in ACR, reset the ACR values to zero and then convert the RAW in DNG format ?
Must be converted the RAW file in DNG and then reset the ACR values before apply the camera recipe created ?
    thanks in advance,
    federico

    thank you Massimo,
    the procedure is clear now.
"What is the nearest original Adobe profile that is so "equal" to the GM one you obtain?"
what i want to say is that when i open the file raw in ACR i see some colors. when i apply the profile generated by PE, i see about the sames colors. i notice that the colors are about the same without the profile (little differences i see in the darken tones but only in the ACR graphic). this with my D700. with the D200 the differences before to apply the profile and after are strong, visible.
    Grazie Massimo,
credo sia tutto chiaro adesso anche se mi lascia perplesso il risultato finale.
"What is the nearest original Adobe profile that is so "equal" to the GM one you obtain?"
    grazie
ps: your english is right. it is mine that does not work so well.

  • Camera Profiles and DNG Profile Editor in LR2??

  • Nikon D810 and DNG files still not working

I have the D810... I just downloaded the DNG converter and still not showing in LR. Help!!!!!

Shoot a test shot with each of the various raw modes the camera has, keep careful notes about which ones are which, and see which resolutions are compatible with the DNG Converter and LR and avoid the ones that don't work, for now.
If you really only want 9MP images then spending $3500 on a D810 is foolish, right?  Obviously you want the freedom to be able to do that at some point, to save memory card and hard-drive space for less important images, but since this is a beta release it also makes sense from Adobe's point-of-view to not try to get every single mode supported before getting the native 36MP mode, that people actually get the camera for, supported, initially rather than delay the release a few more days or weeks to have all the lesser modes supported.
If you mean what you can do with the existing images, I'd use Nikon software to convert them to TIFs or JPGs after setting the WB properly, and edit those TIFs in LR if they are important to you.

  • I lost my profile picture and friends profile pictures on facebook how do I get them back?

the pictures next to friends comments are gone
    ''locked as a duplicate - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/758017 ''

With Facebook on display, click on the site identity button (for details on what that is see the [[site identity button]] article) and then on More Information. This will open up the page info dialog.
First select the Permissions panel, make sure that "Load Images" is set to allow (selecting Use Default should also work)
Next select the Media panel, then click on the first item in the list. Use the down arrow key to scroll through the list. If any item has the option "Block images from (domain name)" selected, de-select the option.
This should hopefully resolve your issue, but also see [[Images or animations do not show]].
Some add-ons can also block images, for example if you have AdBlock Plus installed, make sure that you have not accidentally created a filter to block the images.

  • DNG Profile Editor won't open DNG from Panasonic LX3

I need help.  I've just added a new camera (Panasonic DMC LX3) and I want to create custom camera profiles for use in Lightroom.  I have done this with all my cameras before with no problems.  The raw files open fine in Lightroom (2.6) and CS-4 Camera Raw (5.6.0.148).  First I exported to DNG from Lightroom then tried to open the file in DNG Profile Editor.  I received the following error message:
"DNG Profile Editor could not open the selected image.  Note that the selected image must be a valid DNG colr image".  I tried the usual closing and re-launching the application, restarting the computer, etc. all to no avail.  I then downloaded the latest stand alone DNG converter (5.6) and performed a fresh conversion with that.  Still no luck.  The DNG's all open fine in Lightroom and CS-4.  Any suggestions?  These profiles have become an important part of my workflow.

    Lightroom 2.6 (64 bit)
    CS-4
DNG Profile Editor 1.0.0.39 Beta 2

Yes, I used the stand alone converter as well as lightroom.  I did find a solution on another post.  I changed the dng compatibility in the drop down menu to "Camera Raw 4.6 and later" (it was set to " Camera Raw 5.4 and later") and it worked fine.  This worked with both the stand alone DNG converter and exporting as DNG from Lightroom.  It seems that the DNG profile editor hasn't been updated since the 2008 beta so It doesn't recognize the newer spec DNG.  Thank you for your assistance, I was starting to panic...
