Profile Editor Tool Observations.

After trying the PE tool to get better skin tones from PEF images for the last week, my initial impression that the tool makes adjustments much easier have been dashed. I now believe that great care is needed just as it was before.
The two problems I have found are that it is very easy to cause posterization and also dark or light halos in colour gradient areas.
The posterization seems to occur when you have two colour points that are close to each other on the colour wheel each of which have hue and/or saturation adjustments made.
The halos seem to be caused when the lightness of a colour point is adjusted and become visible when changes of only 2 or 3 units are made. These halos show up most in out of focus areas of an image.
Both of these affects have made me go back to using the ACR 4.4 profile with only very minor tweaks made with PE. I am now thinking that it is probably best to use as few as possible adjustment points that are well spaced around the colour wheel and not to use the lightness adjustment at all.
Has anyone else found similar problems or can offer advice.

Yes. Not me, but you may find interesting this post on ACR forums.

Essentially, Eric Chan, the author of the new profiles and profile system, confirms your observations regarding posterisation and multiple control points.

  • How to edit template for report generator in stimulus profile editor in Veristand 2011?

How to edit template for report generator in stimulus profile editor in veristand 2011?
We are using Veristand 2011.When we run any sequence in stimulus profle editor,we get test results in form of ATML file.
We want to customise the template for this test result generation as per our requirement.
    For example:
Test case No.: Description of test case.
    Objectives: Explanation of objectives.
    Result: Passed/ Failed.
    Graph: If any.
Please suggest how to do this.

You cant really change too much in the report, you can customize TRML.xsl which is created every time in the Test Results\UUT 1 folder and that would give you some flexibility on what is shown. I dont know what a xsl is actually able to do in terms of composing data from multiple files (if at all possible) but it definitely allows you to change the visual format of the existing xml data.
Otherwise I modified the xsl to customize the look of the xml report when opened in a browser to have less clutter and some coloring on the Pass/Fail but, the reports are XML files anyway so it's easy to extract data out of them and you can probably write your own report creation tool to compose the report in whatever format you like.

  • Array variable in stimulus profile editor

    Hi,
Am trying to assign a array values to Look up table in a Simulation model  from Stimulus Profile Editor 2011. What is the format to assign the array?
    -Sid

There are two main file types used in a test. The real-time sequence is deployed to the VeriStand Engine and runs in the primary control loop. A real-time sequence cannot set a parameter value.
The stimulus profile document is the host-side sequencer that deploys real-time sequences and performs other host-side operations like controlling data logging.
The stimulus profile can also run Workspace Macros, which record and playback various operations the user would perform through the Workspace window. One of the things a macro can play back is the setting of parameter values.
To set a parameter value, you can open the Macro Recorder Tool and start recording, then set your parameter value from the Model Parameter Manager. After you stop recording and save your macro, you can play it back from the Stimulus Profile using the Macro Player step under the Miscellaneous category.
You can then run different macros before running various real-time sequences to run your tests against different parameter sets.

  • Profile Editor and DNG Profiles - Still Beta 2?

Are the DNG profiles and Profile Editor still at Beta 2? I am confused because the Adobe Labs DNG Profiles resources page (http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/DNG_Profiles) has not been updated since Oct 22 2008, but Lightroom 2.2 provides non-beta profiles. What is the present status?
    Thanks.

It has been several months since I originally posted this inquiry and Thomas replied, and so I'm just checking again.
Has there been any update to the DNG Profile Editor since Beta 2 was made available? (and, if not, is there anything you can share about what's going on with this tool?)
I am continuing to use Beta 2 with successful results, but I am curious as to the status...
    Thanks,

  • DNG profile editor

A couple of questions about DNG Profile Editor:
1-I know Lab values on my ColorChecker (measured with an EyeOne 2° D50). I shooted it with a Nikon D80 and I want to tweak one of the new Camera Raw profiles to match those values or to go closer. I see that changing the base profile (popup menu in Color Tables Pane) the image appearence changes a lot but the Lab numbers readout doesn't. I followed the tutorial on the Adobe site but I can't figure out how to make the camera calibration without having a numeric value, before and after, to look at. The tutorial tells that you may 'adjust the selected color via the Hue, Saturation and Lightness slider and you will see the preview in real-time'. That's true but does it means that is a sort of 'visual calibration'? Is there a way to tweak colors by the Lab numbers in order to have the best match from original Lab values in input (on the target) and Lab values in output (in a ProPhoto rendered image)?
2- When I create a Color Table from my ColorChecker it appears that in the Color Tables colors are already (and automatically) changed. Does it work like the ACR Calibration Scripts that way? And is it possible to change the reference Lab values (ColorCheckers are different in color values) as it was with a simple ACR script's editing?
    Giuseppe Andretta

    Eric,
Before starting, I want to say that I had cataract surgery last month. The vision improvement was almost instantaneous and dramatic. I can now state that color differences in individuals can be much greater than expected. It is hard to express how big the difference is in my own vision, let alone between two other individuals. Any color assessment tools must accommodate numeric as well as visual comparisons. That said, the healing process has also affected how much time I can spend comfortably in front of my screen. I hope my comments will be taken constructively.
As others have commented, I also feel that the CC24 Lab target values being used should be documented. Published values from Gretag, Lindbloom, Babbage, and others disagree. Without the target numbers it is difficult to determine accurately the calibration result.
My first attempt seemed to go smoothly, but when I verified the results with ReadColors.jsx (my script) the numbers degraded slightly. I was using the Gretag target values, so these may not be what Adobe is using. Also, I had already calibrated ACR for my D3. The doc seemed to imply that the ACR tabs would all default to zero and that was what displayed in the Color Matrices panel. But that was not what showed in the ACR panel. So I tried again, setting all ACR sliders to zero. This calibration attempt was a disaster, numerically and visually. Now I am confused. What is the relationship between these and what are the recommended user actions? In each case, I exported the DNG profile and selected it subsequently in ACR to re-open the image.
Next, I played with the Color Tables panel. I set a watchpoint on the blue patch. As long as I hold the eyedropper over the blue patch the Lab (and other numbers) track. But as soon as I move the mouse to the sliders, the numbers disappear. If I move the hue and saturation sliders the image and the patch sample both change. And, yes a little arrow shows in the color wheel. But after moving the eyedropper back, none of the numbers have changed. The lightness slider is even more bizarre. Obviously no arrow (z-axis) but the image brightens and darkens (OK), without any corresponding change in the patch sample (watchpoint) on the right (not OK). And again, no change in the numbers at all. It would be very helpful if the target values were shown here and if the currently selected watchpoint that would track the numeric changes. It would also be nice if the watchpoint could show the target color as well as the initial and changed image patch colors.
I dont understand the purpose of the Tone Curves. I understand gamma and Adobe linear, but these do not correlate to the ACR tone curves. And again the image changes but the numbers do not. Since we cannot set watchpoints in the neutral patches it is very difficult to assess any changes the user might make.
Next, I used the Chart panel to Create Color Table. When I return to the Color Tables panel, there are the 18 color (no neutral) watchpoints. I can see that blue has changed in the watch point and the arrow in the color wheel. But the numbers are still the same as before. Scrolling through the watch points I can also see that the hue and saturation sliders have changed. But the lightness slider did not change in any of the color patches. I anticipated that this would be the major improvement over the ACR sliders. Is this just not in the calibration algorithms yet?
This is a good start, but until I know what the target values are and what I should be doing about the existing ACR slider settings, I am at a stopping point.
    Cheers, Rags :-)

  • DNG Profile Editor - questions about

    0) Thank to Eric Chan for your work on this. Until now I used the Camera Calibration process through Photoshop and Camera Calibration table. But I see this as a big progress.
    1) Will it stay only DNG editor or it will be also for raw pictures without a necessity to convert them to dng?
    2) Will it be only stand alone aplication or as well a part of the LR?
    3) Now I can switched off and on one color change (by the left mark in the Color List Box). Could it be possible to switch off and on the whole Color List Box to see all done changes?
    4) I have red your comment that this tool doesn't work with lightness, only hue and saturation. But if I want to work on a specific picture (i.e. a man wearing a red sweater), it will be fine to have it in the brightness close to an end picture. Will it be possible to open a picture not only with WB, but also with exposure, blacks and other basic development setting?
    5) Under the eye drop tool, I can see numbers of "initial" or "starting" color. But I can't see the numbers of changed color. It would be fine if I know the new numbers to see how close I am to them. It would be fine if the number over the color List Box will be also for starting color and also for end colors.
And one little proposal: if the color will not change, show in Color List Box only the starting (left) half of a color. Than I can simply see that I didn't set a new color or the color stay exactly the same (it is only a question if exactly the same or very close to the same).
    6) It could be, that I will not use the exact color checker table for what you did process on the tab Chart. But many of color checker are delivered with exact numbers and picture on a cd, so it will be fine if I could open this "master" picture of a checker producer in a right panel under the Color List Box and simply take from it the end colors. First go to the main picture on left, choose the "initial color" and then simply go to this "master" picture in right and take the "end color". What do you think about this?
    7) If I work on the tab Chart, I get the error window "not neutral gray patches, row 4 culumn 1". But if I move the circle to row 4 culumn 2 it works fine. Is there any difference or problem?
    8) And last: how far is acting the shift of color. It will not work only for the one color but close surroundings will be also efeccted. How smal or large is the surroundings? E.g. if we take 360 degres for hue.

    1. For now DNG-only. Here's why:

    2. Standalone for now. See above links for why.
    3. Use the 'Preview Color Changes' option in the Options menu.
    4. You can use 'Apply Raw Adjustments' in the Options menu to see your raw adjustments. This is __not__ recommended for building a general-purpose profile because you are then optimizing a profile with specific image adjustments in mind, rather than building a profile based more on the inherent camera characteristics.
    5. True, that is a limitation of this implementation.
    6. I am not sure what you mean. The Chart Wizard automatically optimizes the color patches in a test shot based on reference values for many physical charts, which is more practically useful than the numbers printed on the reference card that comes with the chart.
    7. Make sure you avoid color casts in the bottom row. The PE is picky about making sure your gray patches are relatively neutral. It is an attempt to help you get a better profile.
    8. Use 'Show Affected Colors' from the Options menu.
You may wish to read this page carefully and thoroughly:

It is the reference online documentation for the DNG Profile Editor and a few of the things you wish to do, such as preview all color changes, apply raw adjustments, and visualize the extent of each color adjustment, are all documented there.

  • Integrate DNG Profile Editor with Lightroom

Worthy of an official feature request, me-thinks...
Its a great tool that's under-utilized - why not integrate it with Lightroom?
    Some ideas:
    - Dis-associate it from the  DNG file format, so it does not need an intermediate DNG file to  transfer a profile to a proprietary raw. (for those of you who dont know  - you need a DNG file for initial profile creation, but then Lightroom  can extract it and apply it to proprietary (non-DNG) raws.
    - Make options in Profile drop-down menu in Lightroom:
      - Edit Profile
      - New Profile
      - Delete Profile
I think these ideas would be relatively easy to implement. Maybe Lr4.
Other ideas that would probably be harder to implement, but would also be worthwhile in my opinion:
    -  Make a color editor based on the DNG Profile Editor technology, that  allows one to fine tune color without a profile and copy/paste/sync it  like you can do now with HSL adjustments - including saving with  presets. Maybe Lr5 or 6...

Hi, I converted a Canon CR2 from a Rebel xti (or 400d) to DNG.
Good news: I've copied the same DNG file and the same copy of DNG Profile Editor onto a computer running win vista sp2 and it works like a charm! I got the message "Canon EOS 400D 100iso_day_curve2.dcp was exported successfully". The profile was saved on a wrong folder: somewhre in the adobe tree but not in the camera profile folder (in this computer is C:\Users\Fernando\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles\).
So I think it is a win xp related problem.
I've noticed another problem in both machines (xp and vista): In the "Color Tables" tab the RGB, Lab and HSL number displays only two digits. The biggest rgb shows 55, instead of 255.
    Good luck

  • Unable to use B2B Document Editor tool to create guideline from data file

Does anyone successfully used the B2B Document Editor tool to generate the guideline doc from an HL7 data file ?
I attempted to use the SpecGenerator feature of this tool to create a guideline from the "a01.xml" sample file in the HL7 tutorials (came with the B2B installation" and the wizard kept on giving me "parsing errors" message below
"The data in the file could not be parsed. Please check the file to verify that it is valid and formatted correctly. This error can occur for one of the following reasons: A) The data file may be a Word document or have some other binary format. B) The envelope data may not be formatted properly. If this is an X12 data file, please verify that the ISA segment is the correct size (exactly 106 characters). If this is an EDIFACT data file, it must have either a UNA or begin with UNB. For other standards, verify that the envelope segments conform to the specified rules. C) The segment/record delimiters in the file are incorrect."
Any idea why ? I did not alter the sample file in anyway -- its format is exactly the same as when it was installed.
    Any helps are appreciate !!

    Hi,
I would suggest that you learn the B2B product starting with the HL7 tutorial. Start by importing the export files and follow the instructions to make the system work end to end.
Next, you want to configure for the HL7 tutorial manually using the ecs and xsd files provided in the HL7 tutorial directory. Again, ensure that the system work end to end after you have done the manual configuration.
Next, you create a new ecs and xsd file using the Document Editor from scratch and use them in your manual configuration. You can use the same doctype and version as in the tutorial so that you can be familiar with the Document Editor and at the end of this exercise, you know you have done things properly if the system works end to end. The documentation for Document Editor is mainly in the Windows Help section.
After the incremental steps above, you will have the knowledge to implement the document type and version of your project. Going straight into the requirements in your project makes it difficult to debug because they are too many moving parts.
    Hope this helps,
    Eng

  • DNG Profile Editor: Can't create profile from JPG file

Guys, could you tell me why DNG Profile Editor fails to create color table using 4 colored circles ? It says "Unable to check white balance using gray patches. Please use the four color circles to identify the four corner patches of the chart and try again" even though I places four circles properly (it works with DNG files shot with my Nikon D700).
I created this DNG file from JPG file by opening it in Camera Raw plugin and saving as DNG file. Original JPG was shot on camera of Samsun Galaxy S phone. I know I'm crazy but I want to have color profile for it All patches are properly exposed after slight correction of Exposure slider in Camera Raw.
    I'm using latest beta3 build
Here is link to DNG and JPG file I'm trying to use
    http://www.box.net/shared/4v2rzlzjfp
    Thanks!

If you convert your JPG to a DNG can you change the profile to the one you computed from the other JPG you converted to a DNG?
Profiles are not for JPGs.  Profiles are for RAW files that ACR supports.  You can't (easily/ever) get a RAW file from your Galaxy S and Adobe doesn’t' support that RAW format even if you could.
To see if your profiling is working, you can used the ColorCheck module from a trial version of Imatest that you download from www.imatest.com and look at the color-error.
You can also try the Read_Color_CC24.jsx script from Rags-Gardner:

  • ICC Profiles in the new Camera Profile Editor

    Hi Folks,
I'm wondering if anyone knows why we aren't (yet) able to assign ICC profiles directly in the Camera Raw module, rather than working from the profile editor? Is this essentially a proprietary technology or trademark issue, and thus not something to be implemented into ACR in the future?
By all means, feel free to add any background to this conversation that you wish - I'm admittedly ignorant on the trade issues involved here, and certainly don't wish to add any ill will. Just looking to understand how these (still) emergent technologies are shaking out and interfacing with the ACR workflow.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I know EH&S Data Editor tool is not more available to download from TechniData ftp site. Do you know where can I download EH&S Data Editor tool in SAP Service Marketplace or TechniData site?

    Mark,
Somebody of my team would like to use this tool within the scope of a PLM project (for initial data load).
Of course I will contact my SAP service account manager but it should be useful to explain to the community (do not need all thedetails) why this product is not sold anymore (after Technidata acquisition).
Does it mean that there is a similar, equivalent solution within the SAP product portfolio (Business Objects) area for example ?
    Thanks beforehand.

  • ICC profile editor

Hi. Anyone knows an ICC (ICM) profile editor (by Adobe or - in lack thereof - any other, preferably freeware) to fine-tune an ICC profile created by a calibration device ? Thanks.

@PeterFigen: I know, they shouldn't be edited. Datacolor already exchanged the device, same results. We have problems on several different monitor brands. I feel, Datacolor's calibration doesn't do a good job. Thanks for suggesting ProfileMaker5's Edit Module, I'll try that out.
@Glenn_UK: Thanks for confirming that Photoshop has no such capabilities. And I admit, I didn't quite understand the article I was linking to. I just read "Open Photoshop ... Save as a copy, and create a new icc profile with this file" So I thought, maybe Photoshop has a function I'm not aware of. The problem I experience is that the monitor - after calibration - has a slight green cast (when compared to an industrial greyscale chart). So basically, I wanted to bend the green gamma curve a bit down. I know, that this is not a solution, but I have to get a job done and need this as a temporary fix in the meanwhile ... better than nothing. I will study other calibration devices afterwards, I just don't have the time right now for this work unfortunately.
@GustavoSanchez+Glenn: Thanks for suggesting BasICColor Display4. I'll look into that.
@Freeagtent: I work on an Eizo Flexscan Monitor. It has several predefined working modes: Text, Picture, Movie, Custom, sRGB. Obviously exluding the first three, I settled for sRGB, because in this mode I can only adjust the backlight, nothing else and I thought - or at least hoped - that it would be closest to my calibration target (sRGB) and thus make me achieve the best calibration results (because the less the display output has to be "corrected"/"adjusted", the better). Also, in custom mode, I have several settings and therefore more possibilities to do something "wrong" ... so I thought I stick to sRGB, because there are no parameters and the SpyderCalibration has no parameters in that case either, so at least there's no possiblity for a user-error.
And thanks for thinking about it, but yes, my monitor is warmed up >1 hour and I have the ambient light detection set to off (as suggested by Datacolor's support). I have filed a ticket with them more than 1 month ago and every once in a while I get messages, saying they are sorry, they are still evaluating the problem on it on different systems/monitors, so judging from that, I guess they might have a production problem.

I have been playing around with DNG Profile Editor. With a text editor I made the following recipe:
    I have some questions:
    1. Right now I have my control points at 60 saturation. Will using two points for each color (say 70 and 40) make my changes more consistent across darker and lighter shades of the specific color?
    2. Does DNG Profile editor respect HueLow and HueHigh, are they just placeholder numbers, or are they ignored if two points are close to each other?
    3. What does FeatherAdjust do? I'm guessing it controls the rate of drop off of the corrections. Is the value respected by DNG Profile editor when it creates a profile?
