Profile manager + Caching server 2

Is it possible to push an app already with an in-app purchase applied to it through profile manager, apple push notification and the caching service without any user intervention to install the in-app module? Synching such an app from a backup through iTunes over USB doesn't apply the in-app purchase automatically.

Hi all,
I can acknowledge the problem with unsigned configuration profiles. However, this seems to be inconsistent between installations.
After getting into trouble by upgrading two different servers from 10.9.4 both got a clean install from me. The fresh 10.9.5 installations both contain profile manager 3.2.1 and were made quite similar in different LANs and by independent Apple-IDs. Now there is only one of the two servers with profile manager showing the behavior discussed.
Patrick, I very much appreciate your a.m. fail list.

  • Difference between Profile Manager in Server v2.2 and Workgroup Manager - Mobility

    Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anybody experienced mobility management with Profile Manager in Server v2.2 ? It is known that mobility management in Profile Manager is broken in previous versions of Server:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3637378?start=0&tstart=0
Does anybody know if mobility management has been fixed ?
Thanks for your help. Best regards.

I'd also like to know an answer to this. I'm managing a small network and don't have a test environment to stage things in. (This is needed as Profile Manager is WAY too unstable to production.)
I'm currently using WGM to look after Mobility settings and Profile Manager for everything else. I used this setup after I got the same reply as per thread 3637378. It would be nice to have the settings all in once place!

  • How to set a profile to a system profile in Profile Manager on Server Mavericks

We're trying to create a profile to allow wifi connection to allow AD logins. We have 802.1x PEAP network and we are able to set the profile up but it does not connect until after an user signs in. I know that there used to be a setting in Profile Manager to set the type (User, System or Login Window) but I can't seem to find it now. I know I could edit the profile code but I'd rather not get mucking around in there unless absolutely necessary.

You posted in the iPad forum instead of the OSX Server forum. To get answers to your question, next time post in the proper forum. See https://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa  I'll request that Apple relocate your post.

  • Early on while configuring the Device Management settings in Profile Manager (Mavericks server) I received an error code -1

When I started up the Server application, Profile Manager was not selected as expected.  I selected it and started the first step of configuring Device Management in the Settings section.  I entered the organization information and went on to the next step which was to Configure an SSL Certificate
I selected a "Self Signed" Cert.  Which was the only one of the two choices that made sense.  The other being the, com.deploystudio.server - Self signed
Hit next and it processed the info and went to "Finish"  I click "Finish" and this is what I get when the setting are confirmed.
I stopped there since I suspect this error will probably come back to haunt me further down the line as if you recall we could not get the Profile to install due to the invalid cert which I suspect has something to do with this code -1 error at the get go.  I ran the one command line instruction twice to verify this was not a quirk and the same occurred.
    sudo /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/share/devicemgr/backend/wipeDB.sh

Did you ever get this resolved? This error is usually related to DNS, hostname, or Open Directory configuration. Let me know if you still need help.

  • ActiveSync config through Profile Manager (Lion Server)

Finally got Profile Manager up and running to begin to centrally manage a small but growing fleet of iPhones and iPads. Profiles are pushing fine, but one major aspect we need to get working is ActiveSync configuration. In the AS config under User, it has the following note:
"The Domain and User must be blank for device to prompt for user."
In the standalone iPhone Configuration Utility, you're able to omit the user name; when the profile is applied, it'll prompt for info. In Profile Manager, however, the user is a _required_ field. Is there a way to leave this out so the user is prompted for the information?

    What you need is here:
    http://help.apple.com/profilemanager/mac/10.7/#apd073333AA-30C6-4FD2-B2E0-E0C956 58A2C4
specify the user variable in the user name field - we used the "short name" variable as it corresponds to user names in Exchange.
    We made it work!

  • Problem with profile manager  lion server

Good evening opening profile manager lion servers seem to me these 2 errors:
1 SC.Error: sc4011: lengths of pendingStoreQueryPairsguidsFromRemoteand did not match!
2 SC.Error: sc4012: lengths of pendingStoreQueryPairsguidsFromRemoteand did not match!
How do I delete these 2 errors that I deny the use of profilemanager?

    Heres a follow up.
    As you can see.
the enrolment profile should push through since the trust profile is already verified.
    Here are the screenshots of my device enrolment;
    then,
    I honestly dont know why...;-(

  • Change Server URL in Profile Manager Enrollment Process?

It appears devices learn the IP or URL of their MDM server during the Profile Manager enrollment process. It must be part of the configuration profile sent to the device. It also appears this is based on the machine's host name. Is there anyway to change that URL - as when the host name of the server changes? If so, where are the files located on the server.
I believe in the previous iPhone Configuration Utility there was a "server URL" and "Check in URL" that could be set. We can't seem to find any parameters in Profile Manger to control the same. Thanks for any help.

    Hi Jonathan,
I stumbled on your responses because I was looking for an answer to my own issues.
I am like most just a lay user, although wth 20 years Mac experience.
    The issue is as folllows:
I set up Lion Server and I host a Wiki page and I try to run Profile Manager.
I do not have a registered host name. The hostname is server.name.private.
In order to reach the server from the Internet my clients use a DynDNS hostname such as "name.dyndns.org".
My clients can access the Wiki pages with no problems and Safari shows https://name.dyndns.org in the address line.
However, if they want to connect to Profile manager, the server re-directs https://name.dyndns.org/profilemanager https://server.name.private/auth?redirect=https://server.name.private/devicemana gement/api/authentication/callback
which the client's browser cannot resolve because the internal hostname is unknown to public DNS servers.
Why does Profile Manager redirect in the first place ?
Can this issue be resolved without obtaining an "officially registered" hostname ?
    Thank you for helping.
    Regards,
    Twistan

  • Profile Manager does not recognize existing OD master

I built up a new Mountain Lion server at home, migrated all user data from an older server to it and today brought it into production in a colocation center. The nly thing I had to change in the colcocation environment was the IP address of the server. Everything else, even the hostname (DNS name), was already set in my home environment (I ran a DNS server at home for this). Profile Manager was already set up and therefore also Open Directory was running (without certificate). All users (except the admin) are stored in OD. At home I used the airport interface with a private address and in the colocation environment I use a public IP address on the ethernet interface.
After placing the server in the colocation centre verything went OK, but for Profile Manager. I was able to login as admin and as a user, but I was not able to install profiles on devices (https://server/mydevices). Therefore I did reset Profile Manager following http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5349. But now when I try to use the configure button in Profile Manager in Server.app to set up device management, it wants to create an OD master or replica. This is not what should happen according to the knowledge base article. It should use the existing OD master and just ask for the organization etc. I have a clone of the server as it was configured at home and tried the same procedure on this server, but then everything goes as expected from the knowledge base article. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this on my new colocated server?
I do not want to destroy OD, as I am not sure how to preserve all local network users.
    Thanks for your help!

Open DTM and connect your BB via USB cable, then in desktop go to options and click on detect and look what it has there, if everything is ok go to main menu DTM and click on sync then on to config sync settings, make sure all is correct there, failing that in options you can check you setting in connections and PIN# are entered there.
When you accept a solution from anyone could you please select the appropriate box.
Also, select the appropriate Kudos box and click it for the person’s solution you accepted thank you.

  • Profile manager enrolled device names

I have been playing around with profile manger on 10.7.3 enrolling and iPhone and a couple of iPads.
The iPhone enrolls correctly and the name in the devices tab shows the device name "xxx's iphone" and I can see the information about the device including encryption, apps installed etc.
Both iPads appear to enroll correctly however instead of showing "xxx's iPad" they show the device name of "New Device".  I even tried pre-enrolling the device using the serial number and UUID and gave the device a meaningful name, however when then enrolling the device it accepts the enrollment and promptly chnages the name from the meaningful name back to "New Device".
I have tried this on both and iPad 2 and iPAd 3 running the latest IOS.
I also notice that the jobs that communicate with the device to collect the device informantion never complete, where they do for the iPhone.
I am sure this was working before the IOS 5.1 update.

I would try demoting your Open Directory server from Master to Standalone in the Server Admin app - there's an assistant in Server Admin > Open Directory > Settings > General > click the change button.
Once it's demoted to a standalone, restart.
From there, don't create an OD Master again - go to Profile Manager in Server.app and run through the wizard again.  In the process, it will create an OD Master for you.
    Hope that helps,
    Chris

  • In Profile Manager, Can I assign users to ONLY a specific Device Group?

In profile Manager (Lion Server 10.7.3) I created DEVICE GROUPS per Lab, and each Lab has a manager. I want to give each manager permissions to see and manage ONLY their devices. Is this possible?

I'm not sure this was ever designed to be user friendly as typically only Admins or those with elevated permissions would see these groups.  There isn't as far as I can see, any way to add this step within a Wokflow too, unless you're able to install
    some third party steps.

  • Profile manager

How can I produce profile manager for server?

There are no apps, as no app would have access to the necessary API's to do what you want. You can suggest Apple add that capability here:

  • Profile Manager "Error Reading Settings"

If you get the above error in the PM you may check the profilemanager.log for the entry "ServermgrDevicemgr: Exception caught No such file or directory - file_store/......". If so, it seems that the "Everyone Profile" is corrupt. In my case it was cause by a certificate. After I removed the certificate the PM seetings could be read again. I placed the certificate into another profile (device group) where it caused no trouble.
The certificate itself is valide and works well. I am not sure if this behaviour is a common bug in the PM or only related to my certifiacte.

I think what happened was that I tried to restart the Profile Manager from Server.app to see if that would clear up the error but it wouldn't start up again. However It turns out that I could start it from the command line with:
    sudo serveradmin start devicemgr
Once I could get to the web UI and remove the certificate from Settings for Everyone, everything is working fine again. Thanks.

  • No users showing in Profile Manager portal

    OS 10.9.1, Server 3.0.1
Everything seems to be set up and running properly except that no users are showing in the Profile Manager portal.
Groups show proper numbers of users, but when looking for members they show nothing. The users pane indicates "no users."
Users can log in without problem. Appropriate settings are used by the computers, users, and groups.
Server.app and Workgroup Manager.app both show users and groups as expected.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Got fed up playing with settings. Decided to start over with Profile Manager.
In Server.app, Shut off Profile Manager.
In Terminal run as admin: /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/share/devicemgr/backend/wipeDB .sh
resetting to default empty Profile Manager
    In Server.app, restart Profile Manager.
Users available in the portal again.
    Manually redo all settings needed.
