Profile manager software update section missing

Hi,
Im trying to set up my own software update server. When i try to set up the payload there is no option for software updates anywhere in the list in profile manager.
Im currently running Lion server 10.7.5.
Is the option not there and im going to have to set this up by other means or have i somehow screwed up?
Any pointers very much apretiated.
Thanks
Mark

Not that it's much help but we are having the exact same problem. When accessing profilemanager we are redirected to the wiki page whether wikis are turned on or not.

According to your info, you have an iPad first generation and iOS 4.3. That version of iOS doesn't support OTA updates. And iOS6 is not supported on the iPad first generation.

  • HT4623 I have an iPod but in general there is no software update section what should I do now

I have an iPod but in general there is no software update section what should I do now

The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, if you have iOS 4 as your tagline suggests then can only update via your computer's iTunes, as described half-way down the page that you posted from.
    Updating to iOS 5+ : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
If it's a second gen iPod Touch then it only supports up to iOS 4.2.1, third gen supports up to iOS 5.1.1, 4th gen iOS 6.1.5, and the 5th gen iOS 7.0.4

  • HT4972 No software update section  found on iPad/settings/general-

I'm trying to update my iPad software, but when I go to Settings/General- there is no software update section like on other iPads. My software desperately needs to be updated, but I don't know how to do this manually. Any help would be great. Right now my iPad shows I'm in version 4.3.5.  Thanks.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • 8530 Desktop Manager Software Updated on 3/7/2013 killed my calendar link

Since January 2010, my then-brand new 8530 Curve synched perfectly and beautifully with my Outlook Express calendar.  As of 3/7/2013, some automatic update to my Desktop Manager Software blew the whole thing up.  Now, whenever I connect my Curve to my PC, the PC reboots.  We can't even get an error message, the reboot is instantaneous.
Have checked everything else (promise), and I've had my computer geek (who is excellent and who built my computer and my network) and various other tech wizards all tell me the same thing:  I need to get BACK to version 6.0.0 something something Desktop Manager software and download that back to my PC, then stop all automatic updates.  They, and I, have collectively spent three full days trying to accomplish this, which led to this forum and all of you.  PLEASE help!
Details:  From my Blackberry, the following:  8530 v 5.0.0.1030 (Bundle 1675, Platform 4.2.0.451)
    PC is Windows XP operated.
What else does anyone need to know?  THANKS SO MUCH!  In return, can talk horses and/or law for hours in one-to-one chats in gratitude!!

It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
    Good luck!

  • HT4623 The ipad2 I have doesn't have the software update section!!!!!

Is this a problem for all iPad 2's or just mine.

The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, if you have iOS 4 then you will need to do the update via your computer's iTunes.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button
    Updating to iOS 5+ : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
Updating to iOS 6 will remove the built-in YouTube app and the Maps app will change

  • HT4623 Under "General" the "Software update" is missing!!! why? and obviously I canot update.

Software update option is missing in the General menu, why is that? and I cannot update my software.
    HHHEEEELLLLLPPPP

Start iTunes on your computer and use the menu to check for an update to iTunes. If there is an update available download and install it. Then restart your computer.
Once your computer has restarted start iTunes on your computer and connect your iPad.
In the left column of iTunes on your computer select your iPad. In the right column select Summary and look for the Check for Update. Click on that if it doesn't bring the update message up automatically. Follow the prompts to complete the update. The update is a big file so be sure to have a good Internet connection. You might also have to disable your virus protection software and firewalls if either are turned on.
After you reach iOS 5.1.1 future updates for the iOS can be installed directly on the iPad over a Wi-Fi connection.

  • Mac Mini Profile Manager installing/updating ipad Apps - HELP!

    Hi,
i am hoping someone might be able to help with the following.
we have a mac mini server to remote manage 25 ipads using profile manager.
this works well as we can lock, wipe and clear passcodes etc.and attach the policies without any trouble.
However we are trying to push out an app (version 1.4) to the devices and this is sort of working but not fully.
if the app is already installed with version 1.3 it doesnt update even though in profile manager, 'active tasks' it says successful.
if you go go into profile manager and select the device and select 'update info' this registers against the device but still shows as the old version.
if we delete the app from our test ipad and push it out via profile manager it goes in active tasks as successful then the ipad has a pop up message box saying the xxxxxx.ourdomain.co.uk would like to install the app, once this has been ok'd it  installs on the ipad ok, but when you select the app it tries to open then goes back to the screen again and never opens the app.
if you download the app direct from itunes it opens with out any trouble.
here is the process i am using.
    on the mac mini server.
    download the app via itunes
then in apps i drag the app on to the desktop, this creates the .ipa file
in profile manager, select the device, edit apps and browse to the .ipa and upload
select the uploaded app and 'add'
when you save this, then go to active tasks it gets pushed out to the device and reports as successful
then the app either doesnt update if old version is installed or installs if no app is installed but doesnt open
    any help welcome
    regards
    Gavin

    Gavin,
We've run into the same issue that you mentioned. My understanding of the Push App functionality of Profile Manager is this:
Pushing apps is designed to be used to deliver In-House developed apps over the air (OTA). Meaning, if your organization develops an app for use on its own devices, you can upload the .ipa to Profile Manager and push it out while bypassing any App Store interaction. The In-House .ipa would contain its own provisioning profile that would dictate who is allowed to run it.
When you download an app from the App Store, the .ipa that you get actually contains the AppleID that was used to purchase/download the app in the .plist. If you then push that app to a device that has never been used with that AppleID, the app will fail to launch as it cannot verify that you actually own the app.
Before we go any further: what I'm about to discuss isn't officially condoned or supported by Apple, which means it is inheritly risky and could be patched over at any time.
In order to bypass the issue, what has worked for us is to sign into the App Store on each iPad with the AppleID that is used to purchase the apps on your Mac Mini. You need to download at least one app to the iPad while logged in with that AppleID in order for the iPad to retain the AppleID after the iPad users log in again with their personal AppleID. After you have done that, users may once again log in with their own AppleID.
At this point, you can push an app to any of those devices that have been paired with your Mac Mini's AppleID at least once. The apps won't (immediately) crash.
Here's the catch: I'm told that the .ipa contains an "expiration date" of sorts. Once that date has elapsed, your iPad will attempt to extend the expiration date by connecting to the App Store to verify that the same AppleID that was used to download the app in the first place is still active on the device. If it is not, the app may once again crash when you attempt to run it. Now, this expiration date or timer is not disclosed, meaning, if this is really the case, you will have no idea when the apps will stop working. It could be weeks, or months, or years. A gamble, really. So, use that at your own risk.
Currently, there is no official method for pushing App Store apps Over-the-air with Profile Manager or any other Mobile Device Management platform.
Remember!: If you are even considering pushing apps in the manner mentioned above, you will still need to account for licensing. As an organization, you must have purchased the same number of copies of an app as you intend to install on your devices. This is a non-issue with free apps, but for auditing purposes, you'd best look into VPP or steer clear of pushing apps altogether.
I hope some of that helped clear up your question.
    Good luck!

  • I am prompted to download iOS 5.1.1.  "software update" Is missing from "Settings".

I am trying to download an app for my son and I am prompted to download iOS 5.01.01. I don't have the option in settings to update my iOS. Any ideas?

If you are using iOS 4 (or earlier) there is no Software Update in Settings. That feature was first added in iOS 5.
To update you will have to connect your iPad to iTunes on a computer (preferably the one you sync with and backup to).

I really dont understand the ConfigMgr software update functionality yet. It feels a little confusing eith lot's of different options etc. What I'm trying to get is that I have ADR rule that does all the patching automatically.
With ADR I want to deploy all available updates to pilot machines every month after MS patch tuesday. One week after that all the patches are deployed to production machines too.

  • N8 software update, fuction missing

    hi everyone,
i have a question: my nokia n8 software was updated and since then i am missing the funtion "antworten als email" ("answer via email") if i want to answer an mms.
this is very bad for me, because i have my emails come in as mms to my phone and until now i could answer them with one click from all my nokia phones for years.
now, that has changed. after receiving the email as mms and reading it, i must close my sms folder, open my emails, check the emails, open the right email, wait a long time for the n8 to download it, and THEN i am allowed to click on "reply" to write back.
that is very very bad for me.
can anyone help me? is it possible to put the old software back on that phone somehow? or can mybe the nokia people just reimplement that function into the next update?
how can it be that a function just disappears??? whats the motivation behind that?
    thank you very much!

since i done an update  a few days ago, i have lost the ability to get emails.
i deleted the account to set it back up again, but now i can't even set an account up
    any ideas
