Profile Missing or Inaccessible.

We've recently begun having problems with Firefox. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted, defragged, manually gone through all user profiles and deleted /user/(username)/appdata/mozilla/firefox files (thread may be incorrect but that's the gist of it)- I'm at a loss. Here's the issue:
Running Windows Vista Ultimate.
Most recent version of Firefox (from Mozilla website) 15.0 for Windows
Firefox SEEMS to install correctly, however when I click on the icon to initiate the program, I repeatedly get the error:
Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.
From what I've read on the internet, this could be caused by user profiles, but I can't get to the user profiles because I can't get the browser to initiate.
As an aside, but may or may not be relevant (this isn't my computer- I'm just trying to help out some friends!)-
Google Chrome ALSO isn't working, and they've recently updated their World of Warcraft client software, which is giving them a black screen. We haven't yet tried to uninstall WoW, but that's my next step.
Right now we're stuck with IE9.0.9 and <shudder> I hate IE with a passion.

OK here is what you do!!! WORKS 100%.
It took me forever to find the right answer.
For windows.
Go start
run
In the Run dialogue box, type in: firefox.exe -p
This will bring up a new window, create a new default user and click START BLOODY FIREFOX!!!!
I hope this helped out some people because this is the first time that I took the time to register for a forum and put up a solution! YAY!

    Are there still profile folders present in that location?

  • Firefox already running, profile missing or inaccessible, cannot kill in task manager

    For reference, this is on windows 8
    In the past I've (very rarely) had the "firefox is already running" error and was able to fix it by ending the process in task manager. I updated to firefox 36 the other day. Since then, firefox will run perfectly normally for a while, but after some time (varies from minutes to hours) I can no longer load new pages. The loading wheel just keeps spinning.
    Once this has happened, if I quit firefox and try to open it again, it will give me "firefox already running" followed by "profile missing or inaccessible" error messages. If I go to task manager, sometimes no firefox.exe is there, sometimes it is and I cannot close it. In either case I still can't start the program.
    I tried reinstalling firefox, which did not fix the issue. I've also tried creating a new profile, again to no avail. AVG picks up no malware. I did a system restore to a week ago, which seemed to work for a while, but the problem has started again. I'm looking for a solution other than installing an old version, if possible.

    Do you have the Firefox icon on your quick launch? Right click
    on it, and select '''Open New Window.''' Sometimes this works.
    If it opens, close it by '''Menu > File > Exit.'''
    This is not a cure but will make it easier if Firefox locks up in Windows.

  • I keep getting the 'Profile missing or inaccessible' error message. I've tried some of the advice given to others but none of it is working for me. I've tried opening the Profile Manager but I get the same error message when I try to do that.

    Since yesterday when trying to use Firefox I've been getting error 'Profile missing or inaccessible'.
    I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling it & from looking at advice to others with this problem I tried to access the Profile Manager but when I try to do that I again get the Profile missing error message.

    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
    *https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
    There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
    If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • I have uninstalled and reinstalled, but still get the same error message about profile missing or inaccessible--what do I do now?

    When I opened the profiles folder there were folders missing (less folders than were shown on the help page). I tried using a restore point, but that did not work either. I don't know what else to do. :( I cannot access the manual fix steps because the browser will not open, so that is useless information.

    Have you looked at the Knowledge Base article [[Recovering important data from an old profile]]? There are steps in there that might help you. You might just want to create a new profile and start fresh.

  • OS X SERVER "Profile Missing Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."

    We have an OS X 10.6.8 SL server managing our iMacs. Since the update of the workstations to at least 10.6.8 and Firefox 34.0.5, we get the error: [Profile Missing Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.] upon launch of Firefox. It appears to be an issue that the profile is stored on the server rather than on the local hard drive. There is no way whatsoever to access, configure, start, or any other way manage Firefox at this point. Need a solution to this problem as we have hundreds of users that are unable to use Firefox now.

  • Firefox profile cannot be loaded it may be missing or inaccessible WINDOWS 8

    I have a Windows 8 OS running on a PC. I have been using Firefox as my browser for several months. Suddenly, when I try to load Firefox, I get an error message, "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox version 21.0 twice, and still get the same error message. How do I get to the profile.ini file using Windows 8, and what am I supposed to do when I ever get there?

    There are a few steps to try.
    First, try resetting Firefox:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems
    If this doesn’t solve the problem, trying using the Firefox Profile Manager to remove your old profile and create a new one manually:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
    If this still doesn’t work, try deleting the profile.ini file to force Firefox to create a new default profile:
    * Make sure that Firefox is closed
    * Press Windows key+R to open the Run box
    * Type: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox
    * Click “OK”
    * Delete the file called “profile.ini”
    * Run Firefox again

  • Get your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible after install. Profile.ini isnt installed at all. Forums no help.

    I have installed the latest version of Firefox on my windows XP Pro 32 bit box 3 times and uninstalled 3 times to fix the message that the Profile is missing and your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible. I am admin on the box and I can install the download and remove it all day long but I can't get the profile.ini to be created. I've looked at all the forums and they don't address the missing profile at all or that it never gets created. I really need this to work as IE won't work for me.

    There is no Mozilla folder created under appdata only roaming and several other program files underneath that.
    Then perform the steps I described for the ''Roaming'' folder instead.
    If the problem persists, please mention what security software you have (antivirus, firewall, etc.). Are you by any chance using software that might automatically lauch applications in a sandbox, like Avast?

    I don't know who you emailed, given that Mozilla doesn't provide tech support via e-mail. If you're referring to the notification e-mails from this forum, they only serve to let you know a reply has been posted. You need to click the “See the comment” link in the message to reply.

    If there was anyway to import the profile.ini I would.
    You could manually create the folders and the ''profiles.ini'' file, but without solving the underlying problem, you're likely just run into some other issue instead. If you insist on going about it this way, this is what you'd do:
    <br>1. Click the '''Start''' button on the taskbar and choose '''Run'''.
    <br>2. In the box that opens, type ''%AppData%'' and press Enter.
    <br>3. In the folder that opens, create a new folder called ''Mozilla''
    <br>4. Open the Mozilla folder and inside it create a new folder called ''Firefox''
    <br>5. Start Notepad, paste the following as its contents, then save the file as ''%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles.ini''
    <pre><nowiki>[General]
    StartWithLastProfile=1
    [Profile0]
    Name=default
    IsRelative=1
    Path=Profiles/2dzy4k7u.default
    Default=1</nowiki></pre>
    6. Inside the Firefox folder, create a new folder called ''Profiles''
    <br>7. Inside the Profiles folder, create a new folder called ''2dzy4k7u.default''
    <br><br>
    When launching Firefox, it will then attempt to populate the blank profile folder with data files (bookmarks, history, cookies, and so on). If you still have the permissions issue, I expect it will fail to do so.

    I uninstalled Firefox from my computer, then I reinstalled it and tried to run it, but this message appeared, "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible" and Firefox does not open at all.

    hello davidrusso71, press windows-key+R on your computer and open ''%appdata%\Mozilla\'' - an explorer window should come up, in there rename the folder labelled "Firefox" to something like oldFirefox. on the next start of firefox this should lead to a new profile being created...
    you might want to import some of your old data into the new profile afterwards: [[Recovering important data from an old profile]]
