Profiles in settings

While I was looking in my settings, I came across the profiles tab in the general section. In there I had two profiles; mflhomedis and MBShelloapp-provision. I am little paranoid about privacy so can anyone tell me what this is?

Before iOS 7, profiles were used by employers, educational institutions, etc. to govern IT policy across many iOS devices.  I believe that use has gone away with iOS 7.
These days, there are WiFi profiles as described here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4989
Presumably one of those contexts apply to you.

  • Remove previous Profile Manager settings

    Hi All!
I have a Lion OS X Server running at home for my couple of Macs. Despite many issues i am still trying to get it going.
One of the issues I have right now is with Profile Manager. When I initially started using it I thought it was a good idea to setup a printer for all users. I added the printer to a profile and it showed up on all the systems eventually.
Trouble is somehow it installed the printer in the system but no drivers so all I get is junk on the printer if somebody tries to print. To much hassle to solve so I removed the printer from the Profile Manager settings and manually installed the printer on each Mac.
Now here comes the trouble: Even though the printer is removed from the profiles in Profile Manager it keeps on reappearing on the Macs!!!!
I have tried everything I can think of but I no change. I think deleting a setting on the Profile Manager does not remove this setting from the client Macs. I have the supsicion the client Macs store somewhere the intial profile and reload it.
Anybody any ideas how to solve? Or does anybody know where the client Macs store the Profile Manager configuration profiles?

Mac's Profiles are stored in System Preferences > Profiles AFAIK.
I've not played too much with Profile Manager on Macs.. but have a look there?

  • Lightroom Bug: with GoPro Hero4 Silver Lens Profile, crop settings do not sync properly in Lightroom 5.7.1 when Constrain To Warp is checked

I was having a bit of difficultly in getting crop settings to properly sync in Lightroom 5.7.1 (running on OS X 10.10.1) when Constrain to Warp was checked.  This appears to be a bug in the latest version(s) of Lightroom that include(s) the GoPro Hero4 Silver Lens Profile settings.  I'm working with a lot of files from a GoPro Hero4 Silver camera shot in the time-lapse / interval timer mode.  All of them are horizontal with the same resolution (and dimensions).  I've tried various sequences to get this to work in terms of using Auto-Sync, resetting the settings on all images except one and then copy and pasting settings, etc, though the crop is not properly syncing regardless of what I do.
Here's are instructions of how to duplicate this issue (there are some extra details/steps here, though this should be clear enough to produce the same result):
         1.  in the Develop settings for a single selected image, go to Lens Corrections, click to Enable Profile Corrections (in the Profile tab), and then pick the GoPro Hero4 Silver Edition (Adobe Profile) if it is not automatically chosen for you (if you are using files from a Hero4 Silver camera).  After this, click on the Manual tab, and set the Scale setting to 76.  (as you will see, you now have the full horizontal width of the image that was getting cropped off, though you do see white around the edges that have been warped/shaped to correct the fisheye distortion)
         2.  Press the R key (or click on the Crop Overlay tool just below the histogram).  Change the Aspect option to Custom.  Click to unlock the lock next to it (this seems to re-lock after setting to custom even if it was locked before).  Place a checkmark next to the Constrain To Warp option.  (At this point, you'll see the image gets cropped back to an approximately 4:3 ratio and the full horizontal width is not included in the cropped area)  Click the upper right most corner of the crop area and drag as much to the right and top as it lets you go.  Do the same for the lower left corner, dragging it as far to the bottom left as you can go.  (Now, you will see that your cropped area is the maximum rectangular width and height you can select without getting any of the excessive white area)  Click the Close button (or press R again) to leave the crop overlay tool.
         3.  Press G to go back to the grid of images.  Make sure the image you just adjusted the settings for is the only one selected.  Right click on it, go to Develop Settings, and click Copy Settings.  Click Check All on the window that appears and then click Copy.
         4.  De-select the image you were working on.  Select multiple other images in the grid.  Right click on one of these, go to Develop Settings, and click Paste Settings.  (at this point, you will see their aspect ratio has become more panoramic than the 4:3 aspect ratio the images previously were)
         5.  De-select these images.  Select one of these image, and then press D to go to the Develop settings for this image.  Press R to go to the Crop Overlay tool.  Here you will see the bug where the crop was not properly copied over from the first image.  The selected area is smaller than the full width and height available to crop.
It seems that the bug is that Lightroom is only copying the aspect ratio (and the other settings), but not the actual crop selection.
I just thought of a workaround that I've tested and can confirm works (and will also work in a slightly different workflow than above).  In step 1 above, for the Model (and Profile), manually pick the "GoPro Hero4 Black Edition" or the "GoPro Hero3-Silver Edition".  If using the "Hero3-Silver" setting, the Scale (also in step 1 above) need only be set to 79 (rather than 76 for the Hero4 profiles).  By picking one of these Lens Profiles and doing everything else the same as the other steps above, the crop settings do copy and paste properly.  This does also appear to work properly when selecting the "GoPro Hero3-White Edition" Lens Profile, with a Scale setting of 75, which yields a slightly more rectilinear image (with a wider aspect ratio -- almost, but not quite 16:9).
While this isn't too big of deal as it does work by picking one of the other lens profiles (and the Hero4 Black Edition profile appears to make the same exact correction to the image), this was incredibly frustrating last night to notice that some files had the proper horizontal field of view / crop and others didn't, and other users may experience this or not even notice their crop is not copied properly (as, depending on one's composition and image, it's not extremely obvious with such a wide view).
I hope this discovery helps someone else and provides feedback for Adobe to correct this issue in the next version of Lightroom 5.
On a separate, additional note for Adobe:  Please allow the crop overlay tool to "crop" an image to a size that is larger than the original dimensions of the image.  This would allow for one to retain maximum original sharpness in the center of the image when using the Lens Profile tool to correct, or "de-fish" a lens, without having to scale the image down with the Scale option on the Manual tab of the Lens Corrections settings.  For example, when I do the above process selecting the Hero3-White Edition profile, my final image dimensions are 3840 by 2257 pixels, reducing the size of the image in the center by 25%.  If the tool allowed one to crop/scale a larger image size, and I kept the Scale option of the Lens Corrections settings at 100 rather than 75, my final image dimensions would be 5120 by 3009 pixels (larger than the 4000 by 3000 pixel dimensions of the original image which the tool now limits me to).  Yes, the edges would be a little softer but the center would retain the original detail.  (this is essentially what the Calculate Optimal Size button found in the Hugin open source software does, when using it on a single image for lens transformations/corrections)

Can you zip up a few of your GoPro images, upload them to dropbox.com and post a share link, here, so others can experiment with them, or do you mean this issue is global to all camera models?

  • Profile Manager Settings for Group does not display for individual members of the group

    Hi there,
Can anyone confirm whether I am going mad or not, I and new to Mac Server and have set up Profile Manager on OSX Mavericks from scratch and have been using it successfully to deploy enterprise iPads. I have just gone to edit the profile as we wish to increase the timeout time to locking and have been greeted with something strange.
We have all users in a Group which has settings applied for timeout, pass code change etc. however if I go to an individual account who is part of that group then it isn't showing any settings for that user and it would appear I need to set them again. Similarly if I go to a device belonging to a member of the group then its not showing any settings for that device.
I would have assumed that if you set restrictions for a group then when you view the restrictions for a member of the group then it would be the same however it appears that you can have a separate payload for a group. Is this the case?
I am grateful for any advice people can give me.
    Thanks again.
    Rob

I would have assumed that if you set restrictions for a group then when you view the restrictions for a member of the group then it would be the same
That was never the way it worked in older versions of 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, 10.6 Server.
The restrictions for a Group were shown for a Group. The restrictions for a User (alone) were shown for that User.
And the advantage is that if you see something wrong for a single user, you might be tempted to fix it there, in that user, and when you had changed six of them, you might remember that you meant that to be a group setting after all.
And the software to implement them separately is simpler, but YOU have to test it to find out the end results of compositing Group and User settings.

  • Will my prior profile, theme, & settings be retained when I upgrade to FF 22.0?

    Hi,
I am relatively new to Firefox and have delayed updating from ver. 21.0 to 22.0 before asking this important question:
I am using XP (sp3). When I upgrade to FF ver. 22.0 from 21.0, will all of my profiles, settings, theme, etc. be retained and migrated to the new version automatically or will I have to redo everything?
Can you please let me know what will be retained and what won't?
I read that the add-ons upgrade will be automatic (if possible), but I wasn't sure about the rest of it.
    Thanks!

As jscher2000 posted in the other thread, there is always a possibility that security software is causing problems.<br />
Most of the time it should work fine.<br />
So in the case that there are problems then check that first and if necessary boot the computer in Safe Mode (press F8 on the boot screen) to disable such software temporarily.
If there are problems with hardware acceleration in Firefox then hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox to start in Safe Mode.

  • OS X Server 4.0.3 Profile Manager Settings for Mobile Users problems

    OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 with Server 4.0.3
We are using Profile Manager to control Settings for Mobile Users, and give homeSync to the users. Our problem is that the exclude / Skip items (Items matching any of the following will not sync" This setting is not working an example. I have put this folder to Skip Items ~/Downloads but the home Sync still Syncing items in the Downloads folder.
I have this problem on all the 3 users/machines on that server. Every client is using os x 10.10.1 og 10.10.2 I have check that the profile from the server is on the client.
Has any a solution to that?
    Regards
    Brian

I have no solution but have experienced failing sync settings (quite often) in both 10.6 Server and 10.9 + Server 3 (upgraded from 10.6 Server) in the same way as you described, it syncs too much. We have given up on synched home folders and will cut them and use other backup methods since we’re not so dependant on switching between different devices. Our users usually have one computer, one iPhone, one iPad and stay with those until it’s time to exchange them.

  • Opened .crt file, but no "Profiles" in Settings?

    Good day everyone!
Recently I opened a .crt file from the Mail app on my iPhone 4s, it jumps to the Settings App after that. However I don't see the "Profiles" menu under "General"(it should be there though).  How can I get this fixed?
Please help it is very important for my project in the works.
Any help/idea is greatly appreciated, thanks!

With ZIP files, extract was your best bet. Do the players report that the file is corrupted, or zero length?? You may need to check with the seller on whether the ZIPs downloaded correctly or see whether you can get another format.
You also could try downloading again using Internet Explorer, if they allow that.

  • New notebook - how to transfer profile or settings for iTunes

I will be changing to a new notebook in 2 weeks time.
I know if i were to install iTunes in the new notebook and sync with my iPhone, all the data will be wiped clean.
Can anyone help and advise if there are any profile files or settings file which i should back up and copy to my new notebook so that i do not need to reset up all over again?

You need to transfer your iTunes folder and library from your existing PC to your new PC.
With Windows, your iTunes folder is in the “My Music” folder. On a Mac, its just called “Music.”
With iTunes quit on your new PC, transfer your iTunes named folder from within your My Music folder to the same location on your new PC. This will include your iTunes music, video, podcasts, and iPhone applications.
You will also need to authorize your new PC with iTunes with your existing iTunes account. At the iTunes menu bar, go to Store and select Authorize Computer.
You can authorize up to 5 computers with the same iTunes account. If you don't plan on using your existing PC with your iTunes account, you should de-authorize the computer with iTunes.

  • Profile manager settings device management disabled error when enabling

    Hello,
I have installed OS-X Lion on a mac mini. Everything is working fine, including open ldap as a master where other imac can connect and use this ldap server for login.
However in profile management i try in the settings section to enable management of devices. When the wizard starts it asks me to enter the password for diradmin as this server needs a master ldap (is already there).
The wizard then mentions that this computer already has a master ldap server and i cannot continue installing device management in profile manager.
Probably because of this I cannot see devices in the profile manager portal.
Does anyone have a solution to solve this issue.
    Thanks
    Paul Bot

I would try demoting your Open Directory server from Master to Standalone in the Server Admin app - there's an assistant in Server Admin > Open Directory > Settings > General > click the change button.
Once it's demoted to a standalone, restart.
From there, don't create an OD Master again - go to Profile Manager in Server.app and run through the wizard again.  In the process, it will create an OD Master for you.
    Hope that helps,
    Chris

  • Configuration Profile Custom Settings in Profile Manager

    Hi All,
I'm a newbie when it comes to OS X configuration profiles. Does anyone have any resources on customizing or editing configuration profiles?
I've been playing around with Profile Manager for a few days and see the "Custom Settings" tab. I'm curious what kind of things I can customize here. Being a newbie I don't know where to start.... If anyone has any documentation or link to online resource or book recommendation on editing mobileconfig files or creating custom settings with payloads in Profile Manager I'd really appreciate it!! There are a lot of tweeks that I'd like to set on our computers and I'd like to see if I can do these tweeks with configuration profiles.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    ~Joe

Thanks for posting Brian  You're 100% right.  It's been noted and the revised article should be published shortly.

  • I have a windows vista pc and want to use migration assistant to copy files over. From what I understand, it will copy over my user profile and settings as well. Is there anyway to just copy files?

Hey everyone, I just bought a new macbook pro 13-inch (late 2011 model) and I want to use migration assistant to copy over my photos, iTunes library, documents, etc. I know this can be done wirelessly or by connecting the two computers by Ethernet cable (windows vista pc --> macbook pro). Which is faster?
I also have heard that using migration assistant copies over the user file as well and makes it the new one on the mac. I would only like to copy over files, not user settings. How do I do this?
    Thanks!
P.S. I'm assuming that when my iTunes library is copied, the mp3 files are copied too. Could someone please confirm this?

  • How can I check the profile (sRGB) settings of a photo in iWeb?

I have developed my photography web page in iWeb. Most of the photos are over saturated. I understand there can be problems with missing photo profiles. How can I check to see what the profile of a photo is in iWeb?

I worked on one of the pictures with your Mom and Dad. These scans are quite good and there is a lot of information in them. One can spend a lot of time fixing them up - good project!
    Here is what I did:
    Duplicated background layer
Applied Brightness/contrast adjustment layer, worked the sliders
    Merged down
Sampled sky with eye dropper tool, opened blank layer at top of stack, used brush tool to cover a few of the spots in the sky (?dust)
    Merged down
Accessed Smart brush tool, selected black & white in drop down, selected high contrast b&w, covered the sky with that
Selected Yellow filter, and covered the ground
    Merged down
Opened a blank layer at top of stack and added a couple of clouds
Applied Photofilter adjustment layer, warming filter LBA, adjusted density
    Sharpened slightly with unsharp  mask
    Merged visible
    Applied stroke
On review, the spots in the sky need additional work - they show up more on-line than in PSE.  Can be fixed in step #4.

  • Profile manager won't clear previous settings

While messing around with profile manager it do a couple basic things. Start FaceTime at login and map some network drives. This worked fine but when i went back in later to turn those off they continue to go through. When I log on to a different computer the settings are correct, however. Is there someone I can do a clean refresh of the machine to wipe it of all previous profile manager settings. I've even tried deleting and re adding the machine to Profile manager but this still doesn't work.

You'll need to cleanup DNS on the domain controller not client systems.
Give me some information on how this server is integrated into your environment.
Is it bound to Active Directory?  If so, what happens when you launch terminal?  Does the hostname match the name under Sharing in sys prefs on your server?  If not, you've probably got some stale DNS screwing things up.
To see if this is the case, log in to your primary DC (or whichever server hosts DNS records in your environment) and check your forward and reverse lookup zones.  In my case, I saw more records than we have machines!  Problem with Macs is those records stick around even after you remove a machine.  Macs aren't always automagical unfortunately.
Another way to see if you have DNS problems is simply take a freshly imaged server (BEFORE it's bound to AD) and fire up profile manager.  If it launches easy breezy (aka not getting DNS from the potentially messy server) then it's safe to assume you'll need to scavenge out those records.  But that another story for a Win 2008 R2 board.
