Profiles of Java instance
Hi people,
I´ve theoretical doubt about the administration of the start, java instance and SCS instance profiles. I know that ABAP instance profiles can be managed with the RZ10 and RZ11, but in java? I´ve searching on config tool, but i don´t find anything relationated with the start and java profiles.
more thanks.
Hi Ruben,
for the j2ee Engine or Java Applikation Server the java related parameter could by located on os level (JAVA_HOME), instance profile of the abap instance, configtool(offline tool), visual admin(online tool).
on os level under (zb. on unix) /usr/sap/Sid/JC<XX> /j2ee/cluster/instance.properties in this xml file there are some paramters for the java bootstrap prozess you can also edit this properties file with the configtool.

Empty line at the end of SAP Java instance profile
I saw this today in help.sap.com, which says that an Java instance profile must have an empty line at the end of the file, would anyone know what is it for ?
The instance profile (/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/profile/<SID>_<instance name>_<hostname>) u2013 this file contains settings that apply to the instance as a whole. For a Java-only installation, the file can be edited with any text editor (beware that the file must have an empty line at the end.);
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/2e/611724f410254ca12a3f396ec5ae85/frameset.htm
thank you
Jonu JoyI have heard many "explanations" for this, but never really any solid answers.
From experience, however, I can tell you that the SAP profiles (both ABAP and Java) will miss the last parameter if it is located on the bottom line of the file. I have always put in two or three blank spaces at the bottom of the profiles in order to avoid this. -

Changing message server port for ABAP+Java Instance
Hi,
We had change our message server port for the Java instance from 3607 to 3667.
We did this using the j2ee config tool. We also verified this information through the console config.
But when we look into system info URL using the URL as shown below, we still that the old message server port is being used. We have recycled the instance couple of times , but does not seem to help.
http://dfudsbw1.dfna.corp.dom:50700/sap/monitoring/SystemInfo
Any ideas where else we have to change the port no. for the message serverHi guys,
I solved this on my own with documentation help from SAP.
I had to change the port no. in the Global dispatcher and Global server area as well.
Please see details from SAP below.
"Message Server: Changing Ports/Hosts shows which areas need to be adjusted if
the port or host of the message server changes. Ports are, of course, changed in the
instance profile of the Central Services instance. In the example, the port 3677 and
the HTTP port 8177 have been set, and the new host is called twdfxxx. You need to
use the Config Tool to set these values. For each instance, you need to maintain the
corresponding values for the Message server host and Message server port on the
Message Server and Bootstrap tab page. The connection details for dispatchers or
servers to the message server are maintained in the Cluster Manager. As shown in the
figure, the ms.host and ms.port are maintained, respectively, in the Cluster Manager
with Global Dispatcher and the Global Server. After you have maintained all of the
parameters, you can start the instances." -

PAS/AAS JAVA instances on UNIX/Linux - database component
Hi SCN,
Firstly consider this is all UNIX/Linux based...
In the past when creating AS (or AAS now) SAP dialog instances for ABAP systems I rarely ran a SAPINST process. It was simpler to copy existing profiles and NFS mount the kernel. There is no database component relating to the instances so you could easily add/remove them
However in Java it seems there is instance data inside the database Java schema, meaning that you have to install/re-install AS/AAS instances using SAPINST/SWPM to ensure these are properly created; otherwise the instance will not connect.
Does anyone have any details on what constitutes this database component? I would like to look at it with my own eyes and see what makes it up.
Regards all, Jamie
AKA doonan_79Hi Jamie,
In case of JAVA, there we have BOX number. If you have a logical host on top of your physical host, then you can go with over scheme. Otherwise, because of BOX number, you have to go with export/import option.

Configuring Logon groups for JAVA instances using NWA method
Hello,
we have a BI dual System landscape ( CI ABAP+ JAVA plus 2 dialog instance ABAP+JAVA, based on NW04s. I have set up a Web Dispatcher to do a load balancing for JAVA instances. I configured the logon groups according this documentation using NWA (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/45/3dbe11a82b6bf1e10000000a1553f6/content.htm).
The following points are still quite unclear for me:
1. according documentation I should specify the following profile parameters:
[Define the special HTTP URLs, which SAP Web Dispatcher uses to send to the AS Java to retrieve the logon groups information]
wdisp/J2EE/group_info_location = [?] /JavaEE/public/icf_info/icr_groups
wdisp/J2EE/url_map_location = [?] /JavaEE/public/icf_info/icr_urlprefix
Wich values should i take here actually? These one or /J2EE/icr_groups and /J2EE/icr_urlprefix ?
2. Also I have to configure (in visual administrator) the GroupInfoRequest and UrlMapRequest properties of the HTTP Provider service running on server processes. They recommend to use /J2EE/icr_groups and /J2EE/icr_urlprefix. Should it be the same values as defined in those profile parameters?
3. I have defined the instance IDs and exacte Alias in the groups definitions in nwa. Is it possible to proof somehow while using my URL http://<host>:<port>/TestApp~test/<application_resource> either im web dispatcher (traces?) or on a web site on which DI I actually land to be sure that my load balancing works properly and i don't land on my Central Instance?
Thanks a lot in advance for your advices.
best regards,
PolinaUnderstood, Install the web dispatcher and configre the ABAP Message Server Port and ms/http_port (T-CODE:SMMS). Test this link
http://host:port/sap/public/icf_info/icr_groups
and this would retrieve the list of ABAP (SMLG) cofigured groups.
For java load balancing, icm of that host will send the incoming requests to JAVA Dispatcher. The load balancing happens on the basis of server nodes and can be found in the web dispatcher session dispatching table.
There are no necessary parameters required for java load balancing except the number of server nodes you'll hookup to that dispatcher.
There is an option called service based, where we configure the j2ee hosts to accept the connections for the services which are running but I haven't seen much customers using this option.
Bottom line: No changes are required for java side and enable the "ext rfc" option for abap logon groups and rest will be taken care by Web Dispatcher.
Use connection pooling and high timeouts to acheive the better througput and use the SSL termination on Web Disp. -
Java instance doesn't start in our portal system after db restore
We just restored the db of our live portal system to our portal qa system.
Our live portal system is EP 7.0, db version:Oracle 10.2.0.2 and os version: Windows 2003 server 64 bit
Our QA portal system is EP 7.0, db version:Oracle 10.2.0.2 and os version: Windows 2003 server 32 bit
We converted the 64 bit db to 32. DB opened without a problem.
We also changed the Dispatcher and server ids in configuration files and config tool one by one.
When we try to open SAP, the java process fails after a few seconds.
We searched the log files and found the error:
D:\usr\sap\<SID>\JC00\exe\jlaunch.exe=>sapparam(18): D:\usr\sap<SID>SYS\profile\<SID>_JC00_<hostname>: line 21 starts with illegal byte sequence
D:\usr\sap\<SID>\JC00\exe\jlaunch.exe=>sapparam(18): D:\usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\profile\<SID>JC00_<hostname>: reading canceld after 101 illegal bytes
Any suggestions

AS Java instance complications on Oracle Dataguard
Having read many threads on Oracle DR for SAP, still some points remain unclear. Would appreciate if some expert can clear the points below for Java specific Instances:
DR is setup & switchover / failover also takes place fine but Java instance startup fails.
1. Some forums suggested to also copy the usr/sap/SID directory to the standby.
But will it not raise more errors coz the primary server hostname will conflict with the hostname of standby server ?
Directory backup, I suppose works if it is restored on the same host. But what about the different host with different hostname ?
2. I also found that bootstrap gives error "Cluster id [IDXXXXX]" not found in database. (Its the same if we restore the Java back up on a different host with different Instance ID)
This error is also logical & I found that replacing the ID of standby instance by the ID of primary server Java instance in the instance profile parameter "j2ee/instance_id" helped me bring the sytem up & it worked fine. But is it the correct method ? Coz with replaced Instance ID, the system may give errors in future upgrades or deployments, if performed on standby servers due to elimination of primary site.
Instance ID depends on hostname during installation (I read so in some S-Notes; Box number of Java instance). If we replace the ID manually then later sapinst or upgrade operations will detect a conflict in existing & expected Java ID.
So again, whats the proper procedure for Java instances ? Any reference to S-Notes or Guides ? I havn't found yet.
3. Once the DR gets running, & some JSPM / SDM deployment is performed on Primary node, how will the DR system be synch-ed up with primary. DB changes would be updated but I think SDM puts some files on file level also. If we perform a switchover after SDM deployment, will the server come up properly with all deployments, coz some files would be missing on file level.
Whats the technique to resolve this difference ?
Best regards / Thanks for time.
Edited by: Muhammad Ali Ahmed Siddiqui on Jan 29, 2012 10:55 AMHi Muhammad,
You should copy "/usr/sap/<SID>/J<Instance#>/j2ee" excluding the folders, below;
"/usr/sap/<SID>/J<Instance#>/j2ee/cluster/server<#>/temp"
"/usr/sap/<SID>/J<Instance#>/j2ee/cluster/log"
Then, start the config tool, search for old hostname the replace with the new one.
>> Instance ID depends on hostname during installation (I read so in some S-Notes; Box number of Java instance). If we replace the ID manually then later sapinst or upgrade operations will detect a conflict in existing & expected Java ID.
It is correct... You will not face a trouble during the java archive package deployment neither on SDM nor JSPM. This number is checked by the system during the SAP upgrade. In short, if you are planning to upgrade on the new system after the role transition, you will face with the problem, because of the box number. This is because this number is calculated by hostname, instance# and SID
As a last suggestion is; you can replicate the files between hosts, noted on my first paragraph, by using robocopy (Windows) or rsync (UX)

How can I correlate an Java instance number with a server id?
I have 6 Web App Server running ABAP and the JAVA stacks. I can log into the Central Instance server and run /usr/sap/<SID>DVEBMSG00/j2ee/configtool/configtool.sh and bring up the GUI interface to "see" all the instances and their variables. I don't see an easy way to trace back the Java INSTANCE to the physical server's hostname.
Is there a central repository to correlate a Web App Server Java instance number to the actual hostid/hostname of the target server? I realize I can log into each Web App Server and look at the /usr/sap/<SID>D00/j2ee/cluster/instance.properties and find the Instance number, but I was wondering if this information was held in the SAP Central instance or SAP Database somewhere.Hi Timothy,
The instance ID used for the JAVA cluster is generated at installation time, and -amongst other things- takes into account the time it was generated. We installed two instances in parallel (on different hosts) and ended up with almost the same instance ID.
Because this can be very confusing, we asked SAP if this was changable - in theory it is only an ID which could be changed as long as it is updated on all places the identifier is stored - but SAP indicated that that is not possible, nor supported. We ended up with a diagram of the system architecture with all the identifiers on our desk.
Note that in the config tool - all instances are displayed with their system instance number. If you were to install a new system it might be usefull to install all instances with different instance numbers so you and distinguish more easily between them.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Walter -

AbhishekHi Abhishek,
I'm trying to install EP 6.0 SR1 on Aix and DB2. I'm having problems with Secure Store installation step (Encryption: JCE and Crypto Toolkit).
Did you have any problems with this ? From which place did you get the JCE file ?
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it !

Abap Instance + Java Instance
Hi people,
In the sap netweaver 7.0 EHP1 SR1, it´s possible to make the installation firstly the abap instance (Business Warehouse), and after the installation has finished to do the installation the java instance (Enterprise portal) ?
In the installation guide
Installation GuideSAP NetWeaver 7.0 ABAP+Java including Enhancement Package 1 SR1 on Windows Oracle
In the new features says that:
New dual stack (ABAPJava) systems only for SAP NetWeaver Process Integration (PI) and SAP NetWeaver Mobile Infrastructure (MI) --> As of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 including enhancement package 1, you can install dual stack (ABAPJava) systems only with usage type Process Integration (PI) or Mobile Infrastructure (MI). This means you can only install a dual stack system either as a Process Integration system or as a Mobile Infrastructure system.
Installation option Java Add-In for ABAP disabled --> As of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 including enhancement package 1, the installation option Java Add-In for ABAP is disabled. That is, you can no longer install the Java Add-In to an existing ABAP system.
It´s possible??
More thanksHi Rubben,
That's true , with New relase of SAP we cannot install abap + java execpt for PI and MI due to some performance issues.
Even concept of java addin has been removed by SAP.
So, IF you want to install java with Abap , then you can fullful your requirement by installing seperate java instance .
Thanks

Should I use a separate JAVA instance for ADS
My customer has Enterprise portal and R/3 installed already. Now they want ADS installed. Would it be best to install a new JAVA instance for ADS or should I use the existing JAVA instance that is installed for the portal? I think the customer is preferring to use a separate instance so nothing already installed breaks. Also, if I do use a separate JAVA instance, should I connect to the portal through SLD?
Thanks,
PeggyHello,
Installation of new java instance for ADS (or) using the one available inthe portal java instance depends on the following factors:-
1) How much extra load can the existing java instance handle
2) What is the user case and expected load for ADS in the customer landscape?
3) Whether ADS will be used exclusively for portal ?
Following link may give you a better idea of whether to use ADS within applicaiton portal (or) use standalone ADS

How to change host name entry for java instance using config tool
Hi Gurus,
We are trying to invoke DR for dual stack SAP PI system.Strategy followed is BR Tool backup and restore method.
We are able bring up ABAP stack and it is still pointing to production Java stack.
Could any one please guide us with step by step procedure to change entries and bringing up java stack for DR system.
While bringing up java instance we are facing below issues
From starting framework it goes back to collecting data stack.
Thanks,
Avadhesh Sharma
+91-8095226536Hi Avadhesh,
For dual stack systems backup/restore method is not recommended procedure for DR.
As it will have hostnames from Production.
Good approach will be to have export of Production Java stack and import the same into DR OR
Have the DR system installed using virtual hostnames which are similar to Production hostname.
When DR needs to be operational enable these virtual hostnames.
Hope this helps.
