Program a Midi keyboard to play certain loops??

I've been using GarageBand for a while now (i bought my macbook 2 weeks before the new one came out errr) And i've finally hooked up my keyboard through midi. I'm getting used to making my own loops. Is there a way to program certain keys on the keyboard to play a certain sound similar to a MPC controller? Like chop up sounds of a song and set program it to the C0 key? Thanks.
Also is Logic studio like an advanced garage band? is it worth buying?

My midi keyboard is playing multiple sounds when I press a key. Like when I play a note on the piano preset, there is a snare hit or a shaker that plays along withe the note. Is there a setting I need to change to get rid of it?

this recently happened, never had the problem before. I've restored my midi keyboard to factory settings but the problem persists. I go into garage band and click on the piano preset, but when I play a note it plays multiple instruments. Say I hit the C note On my keyboard, it plays the C note, but along with it is a snare hit or a shaker. And this is for every note. It seems as though the keyboard has its own setting, but I've tried resetting it. Again it's never happens before, just recently is there a way to get rid of that background sound? It's very dufficu to make music with multiple instruments playing in one note!

If it happens again the make sure that you aren't suppressing website colors.
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their colors and that you haven't enabled High Contrast in the Accessibility settings.

Playing two midi keyboards at the same time in logic for live show

hello, i have a macbook pro 2.16 cpu, os 10.4.7, logic 7.1.1 and 7.2 is on the way
1 gb of ram
a tascma us-428 inerface
i want to be able to play two diffrent midi keyboards at the same time is their a way to have one digital instrament for on keyboard, and another midi keyboard on a diffrent digital instrament at the same time, so as to play a live show?
and also if i want to chang the intrament in the middle of a song becase it switches half way throw the song, is it posble to atomate this switch insted of doing it by hand? please help! thank you.

How to play wav files with Garageband/Midi keyboard

Hello,
I'm using Garagband (on my MAC, not iPad) and a midi keyboard for making songs. I just got a couple of cd's from Miroslav Philharmonik, but the sounds are all in standalone WAV files. There is no installation required. How can i use these sounds with Garageband? Must i copy/paste them in a specified directory on the HD? Or is a sample library necessary? I tried drag and drop, but that dind't work out...

Couple of things - you can open the interface for any instrument or plug-in by double-clicking its insert slot on the channel strip. You can configure Logic to automatically open the interface for a plug-in when you first instantiate it in the preferences. Go to Logic Pro > Preferences > Display > Mixer, and check the box for "Open plug-in window on insertion".

Imported a WAV Middle C Keyboard sound into timeline of Garageband. Can I play it on my midi keyboard?

I have a wav of a middle C keyboard sound that I downloaded that would like to be able to playback through my Midi keyboard and record into Garageband.
Is this possible using Garageband?
I have tried importing the sound into the timeline of Gargeband, but then cant see any option to be able to play it through my midi keyboard.
Can I put that wav into the sounds on the right hand side?
Any suggestions? - If you understand what I'm on about here

Midi keyboard does not play the note F2.

Hey guys,
My Logic is running fine overall but this one thing is realy upsetting: My usb midi keyboard (Alesis q25) does not play the note F2. If I press the key on the midi keyboard the note is not shown in the transport area (or transport field? don't know the correct english word) BUT when I release the key it shows that the note is not played anymore (a crossed note appears and next to it it says: F2_ _64). Furthermore it is not a problem of the hardware because when I use another octave the same key makes the midi files play but another key, now assigned to F2, is not working anymore. The caps lock keyboard is working fine so i think there is a problem with the midi setup but logic is not really making it easy for me to reassign the keyboard completeley. Could anyone help me please?

I record a midi keyboard track and it sounds fine as Im recording it, however, it won't play back in time no matter what I do, seems awfully useless to have all these "great software instruments" and not even be able to use them, one problem after another

I record a midi keyboard track along with a song, it sounds great, then, when i go to mix, playback, the midi track is behind the beat and out of sync.. i've tried every setting I can think of.. the strangest thing is that I've used this exact keyboard in the past with this exact computer, running the same version of logic pro, and it worked fine, now it just doesn't work.. it seems an awful waste to have all these "great software instruments" but they are essentially useless now... it is beyond frustrating to have this so-called "great technology" that doesn't even work and to spend more time TRYING to get it to work than actually doing some work with it...

After re-reading the first post, I don't think it would be quantize, either, sorry about that.
There are a couple more places to look:
Look at the highlights, one is for track, one is for region. Notice how I have it on MIDI thru (top part). That has a delay value. When you select a region, you can have a different value there, as well. Also, the Track part has a place with a delay value. These are three delay values that are in addition to the audio preference Recording delay.

IMac won't recognise USB MIDI keyboard in Audio MIDI Setup

I upgraded earlier in the week from a G4 eMac to a new Intel iMac. All appeared well until I tried to use my Evolution MK-361 USB midi keyboard from inside Logic. No midi events were coming through the system.
After some fiddling around I found the Audio MIDI Setup utility and the keyboard is not listed as a device in there. However, if I open System Profiler and select the USB information I can see that the keyboard is connected. According to the E-Magic web site this model of keyboard is class compliant and so shouldn't need a driver installed.
Originally I had the keyboard plugged into a USB hub. I've tried restarting the machine, restarting the machine with the cable plugged into different USB ports and different USB cables plugged into different USB ports. I've also downloaded all the latest OS / firmware / application updates and installed them.
I reconnected the keyboard to my old eMac and it shows up on there so I know it's not a fault in the keyboard itself.
The only other bits of gear connected to the machine are a Lacie external hard drive and my Saffire but these are firewire device so I wouldn't expect them to cause a problem (they certainly didn't on the eMac).
If anyone has any ideas I would seriously appreciate the help. As you can imagine I'm pretty gutted having forked out a grand for the machine.

I emailed M-Audio tech support about it and apparently it's a known problem in 10.4.8 and they're waiting for a fix from Apple. I guess I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled for OS updates and go rummaging under the stairs for a midi cable instead.

How to minimize MIDI delay while playing

I have iMac 2.66 Core 2 and synth modules connected thru MOTU 828mkII USB A/D converter. When I play audio and plugins from Logic everything is synced. But when I play synth module via MIDI keyboard thru eMagic MT4 midi in/out there is audible sound delay of cca 100ms . Is it possible that MIDI signal travels so slow thru iMac to MOTU 828 (audio monitoring comes from MOTU)? I tried this MIDI controller in different environment and everything was fast. Even 10 years ago this wasn't a problem

The motu has a 'cue mixer' program.. Open that up and set the balance between, the instrument you are playing live, and the output of Logic.. Make sure your keyboard is in 'local control' mode. So that you hear what your are playing, and not the output of Logic being fed to your current midi instrument..
Make sure the output of Logic does not have an 'adlimiter' on it.. (it delays everything)
You could also go to core audio preferences and shorten the buffer as much as you can without Logic beginning to 'stutter'
Because The motu 828 (and most of the more expensive boxes) have a 'live input, no latency mode' setting. You should not have the kind of delay you are talking about..
One possiblity might be, that you have "local control off", so you are having your Midi travel from you keyboard, into Logic, and then sent back out. Temporarily shut off any plugins you have on which may be adding to latency. Shorten audio buffers too.

HT200280 Logic Pro X loop cannot played any loops. How do I fix this?

I have a really frustrating problem regarding my loops database. Initially, I was attempting to create an alias for my loops and move the files to an external hard drive in order save some space on my hard drive, and did so through using "Terminal" to create the link. I've since moved the loops back to their original location, but my loops in the loops browser are greyed out and they will only reappear if I plug the external drive back in. So let me run down my troubleshooting process...
I've reindexed the loops in Logic but the LoopsDatabaseV08.db file populates in the external drive
I've tried to drag the loops directly to Logic, but I guess this method only works with older LogicI've also tried this same method in GarageBand, but no luck
I've attempted to uninstall/remove everything related to Logic, and reintstall the program. Again, no luck
I feel the issue may be linked to what I messed around in "Terminal," if I'm correct could someone help with the code to correct this. Or if anyone has any other suggestions, all are welcome.

Shut down your Mac... Unplug any external midi keyboards and/or controllers... and then restart your Mac
Now test with Logic Pro and a new project and see if this behavior continues.. If not you know what the cause is... and you will need to check the settings for your external devices..
You may need to delete Logic's CS prefs and re-add your external devices once more if you cannot solve the issue with your midi devices on the devices themselves...
Quit Logic Pro
In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
Restart the computer.
Note: If you cannot find this file you did not follow the steps exactly as described!
Failing that, power down (not just put to sleep) any iOS devices you have and test with a new project in LPX again. If that resolves the issue then you have/had one or more midi/controller/remote apps running in the background of your iOS device.. Make sure you quit the apps, not just close them when you are finished using them....

I don't know how someone can purchase a $500 piece of professional MIDI/Audio software and even ask this question.
Of course you need a MIDI keyboard, unless you're going to work with canned loops in which case Garageband would be -more- than enough for you.
In fact, Garageband is a subset of Logic and is capable of producing professional grade output and is a perfect place to start learning about MIDI and Audio.
As a long time Logic user I admit it's difficult to see people using Logic without having a base of knowledge to build upon.
If you're going to use Logic you need to read the manuals and use the online help, there is so much good info there, it will give you an understanding of how Logic works and what it is designed to do.
Logic is not a hand holder, It will not walk you through how to use it, it's not a Mac program per se, you have to know what you're doing to learn Logic effectively. The best way to do this is to read manuals, watch tutorials and come up with a short list of questions that can be answered effectively... in short, intelligent questions.
Random questions of "what's this", "how do I do (fill in the blank)" can give you an immediate answer but leave you clueless how that answer was arrived at. Knowing how to arrive at your own answers is a key to understanding and using Logic effectively.
Not ranting specifically at you LeGringe... just a general rant to new users who've aquired Logic without much former experience in MIDI/Audio...etc....etc.

How can I build a drum pattern in Ultrabeat with my midi keyboard?

So I was just wondering if I was able to build a drum beat in Ultrabeat with my midi keyboard, kinda "on the fly" as it's replaying..... For example, if I want to add some percussion in the pattern but while it's playing. Is there any way that Ultrabeat can just record in items I want via the midi board instead of clicking on the part with my mouse? It would just be much easier this way.... Thanks!

It's a shame you can't record into Ultrabeat's sequencer in realtime using a MIDI controller.
But, as CCTM says you can record into Logic's Arrange and other Editors. One to use may be the Hyper Editor. Not as pretty to look at but very similar in functionality to UB's seq.
If you need to manage your recorded sequences you can always add the recorded region to your Apple Loops Library.

is it possible to import wav samples into garage band, and then assign them to an external beat pad to create loops using an external beat pad?
Also, what do you guys think is the best midi keyboard to get for garage band? (if the beat pad thing works, i want to get a keyboard with a beat pad on it)

Output only through midi keyboard

I have a midi keyboard plugged into my computer using m-Audio's midisport 2x2. i was trying to get playback from logic to speakers becides the ones in the keyboard, but i haven't had any luck. normal system sounds are good, and so is garageband. however if i change the instrument in logic, I get the midi sound that i just chose through the speakers, but also the sound the keyboard plays normally. i.e. i choose drums on logic and get both drum sounds and piano sounds from the keyboard. ive looked through the help, and tried searching through the forums, but could not find how to change it.

let me try to update my question:
I cannot get sound out of my system speakers. i can tell the midi keyboard is working because I can hear the sound of the program coming out of the midi keyboard. (the keyboard is very basic and has no midi controls) even if i use the built-in input, it does not give me sound. my thought is its a problem with the settings in the program, and it just wont play sound through the computer until I change it
