Program/Applications open on phantom second monitor

I used to have a second display connected to the iMac. After upgrading to Lion, I disconnected it as it does not really work in the full screen display with Lion. However, some of my programs that were on the second display still think its on that second display. Despite the fact that there is no second screen attached or configured in Displays control panel.
It is annoying because a program will be open, however, I cannot find the program (other than seeing the menu bar on the top). When I click in the Dock, under OPtions, and show program or move to this screen, then I see it (or when I go to Expose), but I can never drag it permanently to see it on the main screen.
Help!
Jonathan

After many days i found solution:
Run the client and get it set up the way you prefer, or Open your saved RDP file
On the Display tab, choose a non-fullscreen resolution.
On the General tab, click "delete these credentials", if possible.
Click Connect .
You will immediately get a local login dialog. Leave it blank and click
OK .
When you are connected and the remote login dialog appears, drag the window to the desired monitor.
On the remote login dialog, click Cancel . The settings dialog should reappear locally.
On the Display tab, you can now choose fullscreen.
You can now save your session with the Save button on the
General tab, as well as save your login credentials.
Try more times ,worked for me.

  • Full screen playback on second monitor results in having to force quit Premier if a window opens on the second monitor.

Run into this problem a few times now. If I have full screen playback going to my second monitor, and then I try to do something like link media and the link media window opens on that second monitor I can't figure out a way to get to it. I end up having to force quit. Because the link media window causes all other application buttons to disable while it is open I have not been able to find a solution other than force quitting, reopen and disable full screen playback, open link media window and move it to the other monitor and then again enable full screen playback.
Has anyone run into this? Am I missing an easy solution?

You need to set up your Graphics Card Application first eg A and B Monitors , side by side etc.
In my case..a  NVidea Display Application does this from the Control Panel
Then the second monitor will appear in display setting (Premiere).
My second monitor is entirely dedicated to full screen playback display.

  • How do you make an application open on a specific monitor?

How do you make an application open on a specific monitor? I have two monitors, and I was able to get Firefox to open on the secondary display always by resizing it with the option or command key [I forget which one] and then quitting it. Now everytime I start it, it opens on the second monitor.
However, when I try to do the same with QuickTime [when playing videos], it always opens on the primary display no matter what I do with it. How do I make it always open on the secondary display?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks for the suggestion, but no, Spaces is not what I want. I have two physical monitors, and simply want an application to always open on one monitor, not be able to switch back and forth between different desktops.

  • Phantom second monitor

Okay, everything was fine til I thought zapping the PRAM might be a good idea yesterday. Not. Finder icons were intermittently not showing up. (hmmmm... now I wonder if the problem might actually have preceded my "fix.")
I'm running 10.3.9 on an upgraded Ethernet dual with a partitioned HD. Zapping the PRAM made the system forget which partition it was supposed to use, so it started up in my stripped down emergency partition, which contained only a system folder. With that as my startup drive, I couldn't even access pref panes to assign the other partition as my startup. I managed finally to solve that headache finding the Startup Disk in the other drive, succeeding in rebooting in that one. Then I CarbonCopy cloned a set of what I thought the small system partition was missing (user, library, pref panes, etc) into the stripped down drive. I then ran Disk Utility and Permissions repair on both partitions. Took about two hours, but got the system acting sane again. All good, BUT...
Now my system believes it is set up with a second monitor, my real monitor set at 1024x768 and a "phantom monitor" at 800 x 600 -- so of course, now I keep losing my curser of the edge of my real monitor into the void of the non-existent one. My guess is that it's reading monitor info off each of the two partitions.
Any suggestions on how I can get the phantom display to go away? No easy "disable second display" button seems to exist...
Oh what tangled webs we weave when first we practice to ... get clever ...

Hi! As you have learned if you want a second smaller partition for emergency use then do a min install and don't install or get rid of the additional languages. But leave everything else. As I recall it takes 6-10 gigs for a basic install. To solve your mouse problem go into the system prefs and open the monitors control panel and see if it shows you both monitors. Click on the title bar in one of them and drag them apart so they aren't touching or drag so they are only corner to corner. Wherever they touch is where the mouse can pass from one to the other. • Application screens lost on second monitor....

    Hello,
I had a second monitor hooked up and I had some app windows on that screen but I returned the monitor this morning, now I can view those apps anymore...they are stuck over on that non-existing screen now....how do you get your back onto the main monitor? i tried restarting but no go....
    thanks!

Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder, and run scripts such as:
    tell application "Finder"
    set position of window 1 to {204, 96, 819, 501}
    end tell
changing the script to move each window in turn. The application's name in the first line and the first number in the second line specify which window to target.

  • On a Mac with two monitors, how do I get a new FF window to open on the second monitor? I can do this on a Windows XP box easily enough but on a Mac FF won't remember the position of a new window. Please help!

I proof websites for a living and workflow is everything. On my 26" main monitor I have FF running the job tracking web site. In this site, there are links to the sites I need to proof. I would like to be able to right click on a URL and select 'open in new window' and have that window open up on my second monitor.

Here's some more info about the router settings:
iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
You should be able to get into the setup of your router by typing the IP address into your browser.
Depending on your router security setup, you might need the MAC address of your iPad, to allow access to your network, if the so called MAC filtering is active.
You can also check the name of your home network if your click on the AirPort icon on your desktop of your MacBook.
And here's a Wi-Fi assistant to get you going: http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/assistant/wifi/

  • Automatically open AI on second monitor

I have this working in PS, but not AI.  I opened up PS and dragged it onto my second monitor.  Using a Wacom Cintiq.  Now every time I open PS, it just automatically opens on the tablet.  I've tried to do this with AI.  It doesn't appear to work.  Is it just me, or is there a way to make this happen?
Also, working with latest version of AI on Mac with Yosemite.
    Thanks in advance!

in the displays 'arrangement' part of system preferences you can define which monitor shows the menu (drag it in the little window to change it). this is a system wide setting so every app will have its menu on that window. it's not possible to have different apps with menus on different screens.
a solution is to learn all the key commands so you don't have refer to the meno often.

  • Application opens for 1 second and then shuts down

Obama2012 app opens for 1 second and then shuts down.

I have deleted it 3 times and reinstalled 3 times but the app continues to open briefly and then close

  • Applications open for 3 seconds, and shut down automaticaly.

I bought my iPod Touch 32Gb 3 days ago and already a problem comes up.
When I start up my iPod everything looks fine, you can open App.Store, email, music, etyc. But when I try to open a game or tool that i downloaded, he opens it, and shuts it down after 3 seconds...
Does somebody know how to solve this?
I already reseted my settings but it isn't solved so far.
    Greetz HannesVM.

Currently the most fault-proof way to fix this issue
At this moment, the easiest way to fix this "Application" fault is to install a new application from the App-store (Either with I-tunes or the App Store via the iPod Touch/iPhone. This will quickly make all applications start to work again.
The method of "Deleting Applications" does not work, please don't go and think you need to delete an application with your high scores or saved data just because it's not responding. Things such as Tap Tap Revenge's downloaded songs can be aggravating to re download for some.
As said, this is not a solution to the issue and we're all hoping Apple's got a bug-fix for it in the next update. Due to the widespread availability of Un-secure networks this can be easy for some , but a hassle for others.
I have tested this "quick-fix" 11+ times and it's worked each time. Hope this helps out with your dilemma.

  • How do I get InDesign to open on the second monitor of a two-monitor system?

My computer is connected to two identical monitors. I use them in extended mode. Monitor 1 includes my WIndows desktop; Monitor 2 does not
I want to open my InDesign files on "Monitor 2" which does NOT have impediments like a taskbar that wants to pop up.
By default, InDesign CS6 opens on Monitor 1, the one with the desktop. How do I change that setting?

Exactly what Bob Levine said. Can confirm, running a two monitor display here.

  • Open Images on second monitor by default

Though there are already quite a few threads on this issue
    (e.g. here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/1648230#1648230; here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/369630?start=60&tstart=0 ; and here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/369928?start=15&tstart=0  );
the behaviour of Photoshop CS4 to always open images on the main monitor by default still wasn't changed with the 11.0.1-Update.
So my request is to simply reinvent the old behaviour all PS-Versions from (at least) PS 3.0 to CS3 had:
open images by default on the monitor THE USER has decided to use as his/her PS-monitor (and not automatically on the System main monitor).

Has this been fixed on Photoshop CS5?
I'll be sticking with CS3 until we get back what used to be default...
(bought CS4 Photoshop upgrade when it came out, went back to using CS3 after a while)

  • IPod Toch G.3 / Applications open for 3 seconds, and shut down automatically

    Hello,
I have a customer on an iPod touch Gen. 3 / iOS 4.x with an issue running my own app iRuleThem. He wrote me that my App won't open or start. The screen turns black when he taps the icon and then remains black.  According to this out-dated thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/8804168#8804168 there are/were others out there with the same bug on different universal third party apps. Comment: "They should work on the iPod Touch because they don't require an iPhone environment."
But the thread wasn't leading to any satisfying solution at all.
Have you self experienced such issues on other apps?
Was an update of the iPod Touch to iOS 5.0.1 of any help?
    rikeebytes

I could fix the issue. But I have to buy an iPod Touch to see behind the cause. Therefore I decide to keep other developers up-to-date to save their money :). But currently I'm falling in love with this device - G.4 rocks!
This information is very useful for iOS developers who wan't to support all iDevices. The way to go is building an universal app.
In the 'App.plist' configuration file you define the starting point with the 'Main nib file base name' Key. It leads to the UI's first window for all given platforms. There are 3 keys I have now in use to support iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The iPhone 4 and the iPod Touch G.4 are nearly the same in hardware (resolution, processor, memory, ...) but they use different keys. Something I haven't expected properly :(.
    - 'Main nib file base name (iPhone)'
..... is only meant for iPhone and doesn't execute on iPod Touch !
    - 'Main nib file base name (iPad)'
..... is iPad only with other resolution
    - 'Main nib file base name' - without any parentheses  nothing like (iPod)
..... is used by iPod Touch or iPhone (not tested with iPhone --> I use this key only for the iPod Touch)
That's because the Touch was released after the iPhone. It's absolutely fine to could define another interface. When this key ('Main nib file base name' - without anything) in the configuration file is missing it won't execute the (iPhone) UI. That's was unpredictable for me so I was a little stressed during the last few days. It's now fine and and my update will reach soon the stores..

  • When Skype is open on my second monitor, my .swf runs slowly (30-45 fps).

But when it is minimized or on my first monitor, my .swf runs fine. I'm using Flash Player 11.5.31.137. Upon further investigation in Stencyl it seems every 4 frames something called "Waiting For GPU" spikes up WAY past my limit of 16ms. I am not using Stage3D, either.

    Pancenter...
Yes... but I have come across some setups that came with a native SL (and even one Lion!) installation.. that somehow had a corrupted or older Prokit installed for some unknown reason... and given it's a quick fix to try.. I thought I'd mention it..
I frankly don't think it is entirely a Prokit issue itself, but it wouldn't do any harm to try and install v7 just in case it is part of the problem...
    +1 on the UAD stuff....
Also, at the time it crashed... according to the logs...the OP was running Ableton Live at the same time, presumably rewired with Logic... so add all that together with UAD plugins... and that's quite a load on the system...
Finally in thread 32 there is a weird exception msg relating to the Trash2 plugin.. that I haven't seen before...
    Thread 32:
    0   libSystem.B.dylib
    0x94c29afa mach_msg_trap + 10

    0x94c57259 _pthread_start + 345
    4   libSystem.B.dylib
    0x94c570de thread_start + 34
That might be nothing... but as i said, I haven't seen that one before and given what else is going on.. it might be involved too... or nothing to do with that at all!
