Program hangs after sometime

Hello guys,
I've been stuck in a problem,
I'm taking input from the mic port of the pc, it runs perfectly,
but if i leave it for some time and then change any of the parameter or the page (i'm using tab control)
then the input to the signal does not come.
I,m taking RMS of the value, so it displays NaN (Not a Number).
What can be the possible solution for it
Pls let me know if you get it.
thanks in advance.
Reagrds,
Shrek

Hi Shrek,
If it stops from getting values if you switch tab. It's maybe something in your code or on the structures you're using.
It will be probably easier if you post your code. Without it, i dunno if you will get a better answer.

  • Problem in reading data from serial port continuously- application hangs after sometimes

    I need to read data from two COM port and order of data appearance from COM port is not fixed.
    I have used small timeout and reading data in while loop continously . If my application is steady for sometime it gets hangs and afterwards it doesnt receive any data again.
    Then I need to restart my application again to make it work.
    I am attaching VI. Let me know any issue.
    Kudos are always welcome if you got solution to some extent.
    I need my difficulties because they are necessary to enjoy my success.

    What do you mean, "not fixed?"  If there is no termination character, no start/stop character(s) or even a consistent data length, then how can you really be sure when the data starts and stops?
    I probably misunderstood you though.  Assuming the last case is not ture - there is a certain length to the data - then you should use the bytes at port, like in the otherwise disastrous serial port read example.  In this case, it's NOT disastrous.  You have to make sure that you read all the data that came through.  Right now you have no idea how much data you just read.  Also, if this is streaming data, you might want to break it out into a producer/consumer design pattern.
    Not fixed means order is not fixed, data from any com port can come anytime. lenght is fixed, one com port have 14 byte and other 8 byte fixed..
    Reading data is not an issue for me as it works nice but I have a query that why my application hangs after sometime and stops reading data from COM PORT.
    Kudos are always welcome if you got solution to some extent.

  • [1.1.2.25.79] Program hangs after starting long runnin SQL with parameters

    Hello Forum,
    I'm currently tuning some SQLs with parameters that run some minutes. When I enter the SQL in the worksheet and press F9, SQL Developer asks for the parameters. But after clicking "Apply" (or whatever it is called in the english version, I'm using german ;-)
    I get the elapsed time of 0.018 seconds displayed and the whole program hangs until the SQL is completed. The elapsed time is not updated so I don't get the real elapsed time.
    I run SQL Developer against an Oracle 9.2 Database on Win2k. The client runs WinXP.
    I hope this is not a double post but searching the forum for "parameters" gave too many hits to check. ;-)
    Regards,
    dhalek

    Sqldev hangs when issuing an action that requires the previous action to be completed first.
    Sqldev could open a new connection for this, or at least display a message telling the action isn't possible until the previous one completes, instead of just hanging. Vote for the requests for this on the SQL Developer Exchange if you want this getting addressed sooner.
    Thanks,
    K.

  • Many programs hanging after computer wakes up from sleep

    Hi!
    Since teh upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6) I experience many hang-ups / freezes on a variety of programs. I have traved this to I think only happenening after the MacBook has been sleeping. So put to sleep, wake up again, and at least the following froze (all have latest updates installed):
    - Photoshop CS4 (hangs on welcome screen saying "Measuring Memory")
    - Adobe InDesign CS4 (starts, becomes sluggish, and hangs when opening files or latest when trying to close requiring force quit; then doesn't start again)
    - Adobe Illustrator CS4 (opens but freezes when trying to open a file)
    - iTunes (never comes up, just keeps bouncing in the dock until the cows come home)
    - Aperture 2.1.4 (shows splash screen and hangs then)
    All work well after a fresh boot.
    However, when I then try to restart the machine, it hangs before rebooting (my desktop background is still there, all other things gone, such as dock, menu bar etc). I have to switch it off the hard way (power button 5 sec or so) and restart. Then all works well until next sleep.
    If anyone has ideas how to get around this I'd love to hear the answer. If you carry the MacBook around a lot, always rebooting makes it feel worse than Windows...
    Cheers,
    Hendrik

    Similar sort of problem. iPhone will not wake my iMac from screen save using iPhone "Remote" and when I wake my iMac manually, iTunes reports that it cannot connect to my Airport Express, which I use a remote music player. If I go into the speakers pull down at the bottom right of the iTunes screen, I can immediately reconnect to the Airport Express by manually clicking to change it from "Computer". Both the Time Capsule which sends the wireless signal to the Airport Express and the Airport Express itself are showing green lights. The Time Capsule is connected wired to my my iMac. This system all worked well on 10.5.8. I had expected it to be better in Snow Leopard with remote wake from sleep. I am also getting various random hangs after updating to 10.6.1 and HP drivers 2.1. Syslog shows this often to be TWAIN related or HP printers. Not good at the moment. Spoke to Applecare yesterday and they had no constructive suggestions other than to reformat my hard disc and start from scratch - yea right. I have reinstalled SL and reupdated with no improvement.

    HI SkyBristol and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Try this... locate the Microsoft Office and Adobe CS preference files.
    com.microsoftoffice.plist com.adobecs.plist
    That may not be the exact way the preference file reads but it's close.
    Here's where you can find them: MacintoshHD/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Open the Preferences folder, drag those files to the Trash.
    Reboot... and don't worry about trashing preference folders, your Mac will create new files for you. You will have to reset your Preferences in those applications. (Preference files can become corrupted).
    Also, run Disk Utility located here: Applications/Utilities and Repair Disk Permissions.
    I hope this helps,
    Carolyn

  • Programs hang after 10.3.9 how do i go back?

    i updated to 10.3.9 from 10.3.5 and now quicktime, reason, itunes and probly others wont open at all...i repaired perms and restarted i dont know what else to do. with the software update i installed the quicktime so it should be the corresponding version with my os.
    what should i do? how do i go back to 10.3.5?

    kindkind1:
    Let's start with Repair Disk. Here's how:
    Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key.
    Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
    Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
    Select First Aid in the Main panel.
    (Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report)
    Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
    If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
    If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
    If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior
    Please post back with further questions or comments.
    Good luck.

                   System.out.println("Second thread ends");
                   notifyAll();
         public static void main(String[] args){

              t2.start();
              try {
                   t1.join();
              } catch (InterruptedException e) { }
    It is giving output as :
    Second thread starts
    Second thread ends

    Your two synchronizations should be on a same object for the wait/notify pair to be working. The object should be the one on which both wait and notify are called.

  • Database hangs after retrieving some records....

    hi,
    I create a two level B+-tree index, for the first level i'm using key as logical database name, for the second level B+-tree i'm using some other field in my data. I am retrieving the records based on logical database name. I am using C++ to implement my index.
    In the following code i'm retrieving records from database. Program is behaving differently for different logical database names. For example in my database i have around 4 lakhs records with logical database name 'A' and around 1 lakh of records with logical database name 'B'. The following code displays all B records but programs hangs after retrieving some A records.
    I'm using PAGE_SIZE=8192, numBuffers=2048, and runnig in Fedora Core3.
    DbEnv myEnv(0);
         myEnv.set_cachesize(0, PAGE_SIZE * numBuffers, 0);
         myEnv.set_data_dir("/home/raviov/new/database");

  • Firefox gets slow after awhile and also hangs and sometimes i get plugin-container.exe error

    Hello, it's a while that Firefox gets slow and also hangs and sometimes i get plugin-container.exe error...
    I'm not sure but maybe it often happens after monitor goes to Screen Saver or after it turns off...
    Error signature
    AppName: plugin-container.exe AppVer:1.2.9.3951
    ModVer: 5.1.2600.5512 Offset:0000100b

    You can run Java in Firefox.exe instead of plugin-container.exe, but I'm not sure that actually would be better than where you are now.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''java''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) If '''dom.ipc.plugins.java.enabled''' is true (bolded), right-click it and choose Reset (or double-click it to toggle).
    If that value already is false, you might be having a problem with another common plugin such as Flash.

  • Firefox regularly hangs after an unspecified period of use, and causes other programs to hang, and a forced system shutdown is necessary.

    The firefox browser hangs after an unspecified period of time. Anything from a few minutes after system startup, up to 5-6 hours of use or perhaps more. Attempting to use other programs including windows explorer while firefox is hanging causes those programs to hang also, making a forced shutdown necessary. Occaisionally I've noticed firefox will respond, perhaps after 10 or more minutes. There seems to be no hard disk activity while the program hangs. Memory usage of firefox on my system is usually upwards of 190,000.

    I have circumvented this mostly by running internet explorer, and using Firefox only for browsing when I need to make use of it's addons. In this way I've had the problem re-occur maybe once or twice in the past two weeks. It's not really a solution but it does seem to help, and I'm no longer sure the problem IS firefox but using it certainly exacerbates the problem.
    I've only just updated to firefox 6, so I am not entirely sure how that will go just yet.

  • Lenovo T61 (Product 6458-W2R): explorer.exe hangs after logon - WinXP SP2

    +++ english below +++
    [german/deutsch]
    Wir setzen in unserem Unternehmen mehrere ThinkPad T61 ein.  Bei einigen dieser ThinkPad T61 (und nur beim ThinkPad T61!) haben wir inzwischen ein seltsames Phänomen, welches im Laufe der letzten 1-2 Monate auftrat und noch auftritt.  Dieses Phänomen trat nicht gleichzeitig auf, sondern nacheinander.  Und es tritt willkürlich auf.  Der jüngste Fall ist gerade 1 Tag alt.  Inzwischen sind 6 ThinkPad T61 davon betroffen.
    Alle ThinkPad T61 sind Mitglieder einer Domäne (Windows Server 2003) und durchlaufen ein Loginscript.  Das Loginscript beinhaltet Batchbefehle, Kix32 (für das Mappen von Netzwerklaufwerken und Druckern) und Teile der Matrix42 Empirum Management Software (für Softwaredistribution und Inventarisierung).  Es werden Gruppenrichtlinien angewendet.  Es werden via Matrix42 Empirum automatisch die neuen Patches und Updates seitens Microsoft auf alle Computer verteilt.  Alle Computer erhalten eine unbeaufsichtigte/standardisierte Installation via Matrix42 Empirum Management Software (ähnlich einem Image und der unbeaufsichtigten Windows-Installation).  Auf allen Rechnern ist Windows XP mit Service Pack 2 installiert.  Spezielle Software ist in der Regel nicht drauf, nur Microsoft Office 2003, der aktuelle Acrobat Reader sowie die aktuellen Standardplayer: Windows Media Player, Quicktime Player, RealPlayer, VLC media player.  Ggf. noch Nero 7 Standard bzw. Platinum (Spezielle Version).  Alle IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad verwenden zusätzlich die IBM/Lenovo-Utilities „ThinkVantage“.  Das Phänomen tritt unabhängig davon auf, ob das ThinkPad T61 in einer Dockingstation betrieben wird oder nicht.  Es ist auf jedem Computer in der Windows Registrierung eingestellt, dass der Desktop erst geladen wird, wenn das Loginscript durchgelaufen ist.
    Nun zur genauen Fehlerbeschreibung:
    Manchmal kann es bei einem Kaltstart vorkommen, dass nach der Anmeldung und nach dem Loginscript –während der komplette Desktop und die Startleiste bereits sichtbar sind und noch einige Dienste geladen werden– sich die explorer.exe aufhängt.  Die Startleiste lässt sich nicht bedienen.  Ebenfalls lassen sich dann auch auf dem Desktop keine Symbole doppelklicken.
    Wir setzen auch andere Computer ein, wo dieses Phänomen nicht auftritt, u.a.:
    - HP-Computer (Desktops, Evo SFF Series)
    - Fujitsu-Siemens-Computer (Desktops, ESPRIMO E Series)
    - IBM ThinkPad T20/21
    - IBM ThinkPad T40/T41/T42
    - IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T60
    Das Problem tritt nur auf den noch relativ neuen ThinkPad T61 auf.
    Wir haben bereits einen ziemlich ähnlichen Fall unter…

    [english]
    Unfortunately, I’m not fluent in the english language.
    We use a few ThinkPad T61’s in our company.  Meanwhile, at some ThinkPad T61’s (only ThinkPad T61!) we have a strange problem. This problem appears since the last 1-2 months and it still does exist.  This problem does not appear at the same time, it does appear successive.  And it appears random.  The last case is 1 day old.  Meanwhile, 6 ThinkPad T61 are concerned.
    All ThinkPad T61 are members of a domain (Windows Server 2003) and do execute a logon script.  The logon script contains Batch commands, Kix32 (for mapping network drives and printers) and parts of the Matrix42 Empirum Management software (for software distribution and inventory scan).  Group policies will apply.  Patches and updates will install on every computer via Matrix42 Empirum automatically.  All computers get a default/unattended installation via Matrix42 Empirum Management software (everywhere between an image and an unattended Windows installation).  All computers have installed Windows XP with Service Pack 2.  As a rule, special software isn’t installed, only Microsoft Office 2003, the actual Acrobat Reader and the actual default players: Windows Media Player, Quicktime Player, RealPlayer, VLC media player.  Sometimes, there is installed the Nero 7 Standard or rather Platinum (Special Edition) yet.  All IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad use IBM/Lenovo-Utilities „ThinkVantage“ additionally.  The problem exists if the ThinkPad T61 is connected to a docking station and also if the ThinkPad T61 is disconnected from a docking station.  On every computer exists a registry key which arranges it that the desktop only will be loaded after the logon script did run.
    Now the detailed error description:
    Sometimes the explorer.exe hangs after the cold start.  i.e.: The desktop (with icons and task bar) appears complete.  But the computer hangs if you try to click on the task bar or double click on any icons.  The computer will only run if we kill the process ‘explorer.exe’ and if we restart the explorer.exe.
    We use also other computers with the same installation and the same group policies where the problem does not exist, for example:
    - HP-Computer (Desktops, Evo SFF Series)
    - Fujitsu-Siemens-Computer (Desktops, ESPRIMO E Series)
    - IBM ThinkPad T20/21
    - IBM ThinkPad T40/T41/T42
    - IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T60
    Only the new ThinkPad T61’s have this problem.
    We have found a similar case at…

    Vielen Dank / Many thanks!

    I would run System Update and make sure I had all the updates available.
    Another thing to try is:
    1. Right-click on My Computer and click Properties
    2. Click on the Advanced tab
    3. Click on Settings under Performance
    4. Click on Data Execution Prevention
    5. Click on Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select, then check Windows Explorer
    We had to do that to some machines here after a push from corporate of the new ScriptLogic.This solved the problem.

  • Itunes hang after latest updates

    Since the last updates to my iMac iI find that the iTunes is constantly Hanging. It does not matter if I'm not using iTunes, as soon as its working in the background it hangs sooner or later. When I work with my music files in iTunes it usually hangs after less than 30 minutes.
    How can this be?
    I do not want to start with a new music player since I have used iTunes for the last 10 years and I have all my music in it.
    But the way its acting now it seem like I have to use something else since iTunes is simply not working properly.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
    Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
    There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
    You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
    In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
    You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
    Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a general summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
    ☞ Copy a particular line of text to the Clipboard.
    ☞ Paste into the window of another application.
    ☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
    ☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
    These are not specific instructions; just an overview. The details are in parts 7 and 8 of this comment. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time.
    5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
    You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. Load this linked web page (on the website "Pastebin.") The title of the page is "Diagnostic Test." Below the title is a text box headed by three small icons. The one on the right represents a clipboard. Click that icon to select the text, then copy it to the Clipboard on your computer by pressing the key combination command-C.
    If the text doesn't highlight when you click the icon, select it by triple-clicking anywhere inside the box. Don't select the whole page, just the text in the box.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Click anywhere in the Terminal window to activate it. Paste from the Clipboard into the window by pressing command-V, then press return. The text you pasted should vanish immediately.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
    and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
    If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:
    [Process started]
            Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
            Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
            The test results are on the Clipboard.
            Please close this window.
    [Process completed]
    The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
    Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
    12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
    At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
    If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but whatever else you're told to do may not be. For others who choose to run it, I don't recommend that you post the test results on this website unless I asked you to.

  • Program hangs, can't get thread dump

    Hello
    I have a Java program which sometimes works OK untill the very end, but sometimes just hangs in a random moment and doesn't react to Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Break. Process doesn't use CPU, so I guess it isn't something like infinite loop (I actually cannot think of places in my program where this kind of loop may occur). I tried to get thread dump to see if there are any deadlocks, but Ctrl+Break doesn't work and jstack doesn't work also (I've read that there is -F option, but it isn't available on Windows). Also I tried to connect to a process with Java Visual VM - doesn't help too (just says 'Connecting...' forever).
    What else can I do to find out what's going on in my programm and fix it?
    I tried to run it with JDK 1.6.0_07 and 1.6.0_16. I'm using Windows Vista Enterprise SP1, 64-bit.
    Thanks in advance, Yulia.

    Yesterday I tried to start my program, connect with Java Visual VM to it and see how threads visualisation will look like in a moment when program hangs. My programm died after about 50 min and all info which I was able to see was about this period of time (e.g. a timeline diagram stopped changing and the last time mark was 49:23), but Java Visual VM was still connected to a process. I tried to press Thread Dump button, it worked, but there was nothing 'criminal' on the dump it provided. So I guess maybe it's not actual thread dump, it's something that Java Visual VM was able to get before process hanged.
    I don't have much experience in resolving this kind of problems, so any advices will be great appreciated.
