Program Harddrive icons on desktop

I am a new mac user and when I downloaded a couple of new programs to my new mac (skype, fire fox ect.) they have left hard drive icons on my desktop I can't move or delete. Does anyone know how I can get rid of them?? Or at least move them off of my desktop?

Okay, so you open the item on your desktop, also called a Disk Image, then you also open a Finder window and go to the apps folder. Then you copy the app from the disk image to the finder window. After that, make sure the program is closed all the way, then eject and delete the .dmg.

You music etc should not be affected by problems with the iTunes program, nevertheless it is always a good idea to backup your data.
You haven't said if there was any error message when you tried to start iTunes. If there was one please give it in full.
Also check to see if QuickTime works, iTunes can not work without it. If QuickTime doesn't work, it has to be fixed before worrying about iTunes.
Then restart your PC and open your Task manger and select the Processes tab.
Try to start iTunes, does iTunes.exe appear on the processes tab? If so does it disappear again or remain although the programs does not open?

After the installation did you restart the computer? If you go into Control Panel>Programs and Features do you see BlackBerry Desktop Software listed in the applications?
Did you have a previous version of BlackBerry Desktop Software installed?

I can only open one Firefox browser window. When I click the firefox icon from desktop or taskbar to open up another browser window it does not open. I am ablt to open up new tabs within the one window.

Have you tried: click Firefox button > New Tab > New Window '''''OR''''' CTRL+N '''''OR''''' File > New Window (if using the Menu Bar)
Once open, Firefox locks the Profile that is in use and you can not open another window with that Firefox version and Profile combination using the Windows Desktop icon or the Windows Programs list.

OEL5: up2date without alert icon on desktop

Unlike RHEL5, OEL5 retained up2date and that's good.
But what happened with blue/red ULN alert icon on desktop panel? Why did it disappear?

Go make contact with your IT support staff and have them install whatever you need after suspending Windows 7's newest schemas for User Account Control which did not exist for Windows XP.

After installing PSE 9 all the other icons in desktop has changed to PSE 9.

I cant use any other programs Adobe help no good at all, so I have had to remove it.I had a download upgrade from 8.

Try making a direct desktop icon for the Organizer and you can launch then launch the program directly from the desktop bypassing the welcome screen.
On Windows right click anywhere on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
Browse to Computer OS C:
And find the PSE Organizer application in Program Files or Program Files (x86) on Windows 7 - 64 bit.
Inside the Adobe >> Photoshop Elements Organizer (yellow folder) you are looking for an application file “PhotoshopEementsOrganizer” with six small icons (e.g. representing thumbnails)
Select it and click OK
Click next
Rename by taking out Photoshop Elements leaving just the word Organizer
Then click finish
You should now be able to launch directly form the desktop by double clicking on the icon.
You can set up a similar direct link to the Editor application (.exe file which has the blue PSE icon). As before take out Photoshop Elements just leaving the description Editor and it will show up clearly on the desktop.

So what happens if i drag the harddrive icon to the trash?

I'm trying to use a new harddrive icon other than the default one... so i downloaded one and i can copy it and paste it on my desktop, but i dont want two harddrive icons...
if i drag the original icon to the trash, and "eject" it, am i going to screw anything up?

I am an old, unreconstructed rebel, a Confederate, and when I bought my iBook I thought it would be funny to name the hard disk after the Yankee general, Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan, who was affectionately called, as you might guess, "Little Mac."
Would it be possible to replace the normal icon for my hard disk with a picture of Gen. McClellan?
Could you tell me what the image size should be for fastest placement as an icon by the operating system? I can adjust the size with a "save as" operation in Adobe Photoshop Elements. I now have the desktop icon size set to "20 X 20," but that would not be much of a picture, I'm afraid.

Harddrive Icon moves

Why does my harddrive icon in random places on my desktop sometimes?

I've found if I put any other icons too close to the hard drive icon it will move after a restart or shutdown but not after sleeping it. This will also happen if you put the hard drive icon too close to the edge of your screen.
If I keep other icons a 1/2" away I have no trouble (distance varies depending on your screen size).

What are the steps I need to take to get the machine's harddrive icon to display full time on the desktop?

Have a look in... Finder > Preferences > General Tab > Hard Disc
You may also be interested in... Finder > View > Show status bar

Does any one know how to execute program in Jump developer desktop,
actually i copied the hello world project from my eclipse workspace to jump
developers workspace and once i run the program it asks for the main class
and then i gave main class as my HelloWorld Class,it generates error as
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: main
Exception in thread "main"
Can any one help me to come out of this problem.....

Email icon on desktop always opens in webmail instead of email.

Thunderbird is a desktop application. That email thingy on that ugly blocky screen will never open Thunderbird.
Use the Thunderbird item, not email.
