Program launch issues

I have a few apps that sometimes will not launch. They seem to crash when you try to launch and if you keep trying they will finally work. Is this a multi-tas or app bug? Could it be faulty memory in my iPhone?

Connect your iPhone to your computer. Launch iTunes. Select your iPhone under Devices on the left.
Select the Summary tab.
At the bottom of that window you will see Capacity and Free. Make sure there is enough free storage space. Insufficient storage space could be a factor when apps won't launch.
If that's not the issue, try restarting your IPad.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
Now try launching an app. If you continue to have problems launching certain apps, go to the vendor site and look for support.

I am trying to get iTunes up and running again on my PC. I have followed the "iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues" I have uninstalled, re installed, made a new user account gone through the system - wide fixes and still no joy. There are 5 Ipod devices in the house and we deperatly need to get this fixed.

Fireworks CS3 Program Switching Issue

In the office we have 3 machines using Fireworks CS3 (part of Studio CS3). All the machines are experiencing the issue I am about to describe. Each machine is an Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB ram. All 3 machines are using Windows Vista.
We all had the old Vista Aero problem with brushes, and we quickly overcame this by using the "disable desktop composition" fix.
However, one problem we have never been able to solve occurs when switching between ANY application and Fireworks. There is a delay of at least 20-30 seconds (sometimes more) when trying to swap back to Fireworks. We have being doing various Google & Adobe forum searches regularly over the past 2+ years, looking in vein for a fix, but as yet have still not managed to find a solution or even a record of someone else with the same issue (mainly because out searches are dominated with the old "disable desktop composition" fix). We assumed it was a problem fundemental to CS3 yet still hold out hope for a solution.
Normally it's not a problem, but when working on websites which involve a lot of graphics edits and/or switching in and out of Fireworks it can quickly add a very frustrating hour or more to a job.
Recently, I was forced to upgrade to a new computer with Windows 7, and transfered my old CS3 install to the new machine. I was surprised to find that I can switch in and out of Fireworks instantly, much to the frustration of the other guys in the office who are unfortunately stuck with Vista for the time being.
Is there a fix for this horrible switching delay on Vista and has anyone else here even sufered with the same issue?
TL:DR - This is not the desktop composition problem with brushes which seems to domnate results when we try to search for a fix, this is a very noticable delay when swapping in and out of Fireworks.

I'm affraid that didn't help. It actually slowed down the inital launch of the program and it took around 5 minutes for Fireworks to finally start. Once started the program switching issue was still present

New Speedgrade CC keeps crashing as the program launches. The last version ran fine. I'm using a Macbook Pro with (10.7.5) 8 gigs of ran. Help or thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm having this same issue with Direct Link with the most recent versions of Premiere and SG. I have tried unistalling and reinstalling both apps along with a system restart. Nothing fixes it. I DO NOT have any third party plugins for premiere installed. I have a couple VideoCopilot plugins for After Effects on the maching, just Optical Flares and Element 3D. Wehn I use the Direct Link feature it will crash SpeedGrade. If I open JUST SpeedGrade and import some video clips into the timeline it runs fine. It seems to only have issues when I try opening a Premiere timeline within SpeedGrade.
I am running it on a Series 7 Chronos Samsung Laptop with 12GB of RAM and a 3.2 Core i7 Processor. The Graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce GT 650M with 2GB of dedicated video memory. I feel my specs are more than enough to run the programs succesfully.
If I need to provide log files, I would be happy to do that, but I will need to be instructed on how to do that.
Any other questions about how I am using the software or any other details about my hardware, just let me know. I hope to get this fixed soon as I am about to cancel my subscription to CC. The issues I have had with CC are starting to affect my business and it is costing me more money than I would like. Please let me know if you have a fix or have had a similar issue that you have found a solution for.

Program delay issue

1. Once or twice a week but not necessarily every week I will turn on my TV and the box will stuck playing a program from an hour before. I will try pushing the Fios TV button to go to live programming and it will flash the correct program info but will then change the info to the earlier program and stay showing the earlier program. Turning the box on and off will do nothing and I will have to unplug and reboot the box to see current programming. I have a Motorola QIP6416-2 hd-dvr. I figure I'm probably going to have to get a new box.
2. However, I had a newer box when I first had my fios hooked up and had all kinds of issues with it.
So, I guess I have two questions,
1. Any suggestions on the program delay issue?
And
2. Have they fixed the problems with the sound/etc on the new boxes?

Thank you. I have not tried a 2 channel move, only 1. Hopfully they get the newer boxes fixed. The ability to record 2 programs and watch a third using the buffer is very useful.

Hopefully this helps: I had one plugin (Vectorworks) which I deleted and now it opens. Try deleting any plugins if you have any if you've run out of options. Took me hours to figure that out.
On a side note, Yosemite sucks. Spread the word.

Run scripts when program launches and quits?

Howdy all!
Skipping the details: I need to run an AppleScript when a specific program launches and run another AppleScript when that program quits. Anyone know of a free/easy way to do this? (A custom script would work great but my knowledge of AppleScript is limited.)
I have found a few programs that can do this but have yet to find the "perfect" one. For example: In the past I have jury-rigged ControllerMate to do it, but this is for a new computer and I don't want to spend $25 for this simple purpose. I also found Do Something When but the program hasn't been updated in 6 years so I am hesitant to use it.
Any other thoughts on free programs or where I could find info for a custom script?

You will need to use something that can observe NSWorkspace events. An Applescript can be used, how easy depends on the OS you are using (if you are still using Leopard, you will need to use Xcode). Do Something When still works, as far as I can tell.

ITunes 7.7 Launch Issue

Hi,
I had a working iTunes 7.6 installation on 32-bit Vista.
I've installed iTunes 7.7, which installed no problem and displayed the licence agreement screen to me. I then clicked 'Agree' and it went away.
I can see it running in my task manager, however see no GUI.
Rebooting the PC, 'fixing' the installation, uninstalling and reinstalling haven't helped.
I click the iTunes icon, it shows me the progress bar 'Loading iTunes Library', and then the progress window vanishes and I see no iTunes. It is, however, running in my task manager.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Let's check to see first if this is a systemwide issue or if it is specific to a single user account.
Try creating a new user account (With full administrative rights) as per the instructions in the following document:
iTunes for Windows Vista: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues
Now log out of the old user account and log into the new one.
Try launching iTunes in the new account. Does an (empty) library screen eventually come up, or do you get the same kind of behavior as you do with the the usual user account?

Automating a system preference when a program launches.

Hi there. This is my first time posting.
This is a small issue. I'm curious to know if this type of thing is possible, and how I'd go about doing it!
When I launch a certain program (various games, certain audio applications) sometime I need to enable the "use all F1 F2 etc keys as standard function keys" option. However, when I am not using these applications, I would prefer it to be off.
Is there a way to automate this function on and off? For example:
If i Open (program X)
This system preference is engaged.
When I close (program X)
This system preference is disengaged.
Sorry if that sequence makes me sound like an idiot - I have no knowlege of automating tasks/script/code.

I got it working as well as I can figure. I used a combination of Applescript and Automator. This is what it looks like:
The applescript you see in the middle was taken from a similar apple forum. I have NO idea why I needed it. For whatever reason, the "Watch Me Do" function you see at the bottom of my automation simply doesn't work like it's supposed to without that applescript.
Then I saved the whole thing as an "application" and now I launch it from my dock the same way I'd launch anything else. It's awesome.
Now if I only I could figure out how to toggle it back once the program quits....

CS6 Design & Web Premium "Program Launching Problem"

II purchased CS6 Design & Web Premium in September and have been using the program ever since and everything was working fine until this week when I tried to launch Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver, etc. and I got the following message:
“The procedure entry point GetLogicalProcessorInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library Kernal32.dll”.
Consequently, the majority of the programs won't operate at all because of this. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling CS6 and also using the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool. Also, I've reinstalled Windows and even replaced my Processor thinking that might be the issue but nothing has fixed the problem. NOTE: By the way, I also own CS5.5 Design and Web Premium and everything works fine.
Now I'm getting the message when I try to launch Illustrator that I'm only using a "Trial Version" and I have to sign in.
Please help me. I really need to use CS6.

Photoshop launching issues

I just downloaded a rial of Photoshop (for Windows), when launching the program it appears to load up fine, then before I can use it I get a message "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly". I downloaded Illustrator to test if I would have issues with other Adobe programs, but Illustrator loaded without any issues.

Usually when you get the message a program stop working in Windows there is a crash report generated. Did you check your windows reliability history??? Here are some I see on my system. The CC and CC 2014 stopped Workings happened in Windows KERNELBASE.dll and were cause by a Nvidia drivers update. I then install a newer version and repeated testing thing in Photoshop that were causing Photoshop to stop working. Photoshop is now running better. All Photoshop crashes are not in Adobe's code, CS6 was very unstable however CS6 CC and CC 2014 with the Adobe updates applied are quite stable. Yes there are bugs in Photoshop. Still Photoshop is the most comprehensive image editor there is and those version are very stable in the Mac and PC environments if the user's system are also stable and up to date.

Itunes persistent silent launch issues

The problem I have is when I double click on itunes and the computer thinks for a few seconds and then nothing happens, no error message. When I check the task manager itunes.exe is running under processes, no abnormal CPU usage. I have been having this issue for about 6-8 weeks now.
In that time I made no system changes, I have been using SP 3 for about 3-4 months now. I have tried uninstalling itunes, quicktime, apple mobile device support, apple software update, bonjour, and mobile me preferences using the add/remove programs. I also followed the instructions on the apple support website for uninstall and file removal as suggested on different post as well. I have run multiple virus scans and spyware scans using avast home edition 4.8 and spybot S & D being sure to update the virus definitions prior to each scan. I ran registry cleaner (ccleaner) to fix any registry issues. I have checked to make sure my smart card is running (per previously read posts) and it is set on manual. I had deleted the sidb file with no success as well. I also created a new user account and tried installing and running itunes there with the same problem. (this is not necessarily the order in which i performed these fixes if that makes a difference) If anyone has any suggestions for additional ideas I am open to trying anything. I am at my wits end here. Thank your time and responses. Vinnie

I could not get Bonjour to disable so I uninstalled it. Do I need to reinstall?

you should find the smart card service in the list. Report back with your findings.
It is set on Manual.
Malware can interfere with cryptographic services and also prevent a resolution so it is important to check that your system is clean before proceeding: Run a virus and spyware scan with up to date definitions.
Ran a virus scan with Avast home 4.8 with no viruses found and spy scan with spybot search and destroy with no changes to itunes launch.

When I was going through Method 4 I got this message "LoadLibrary("mssip32.dll")failed - The specified module could not be found" I got this message on both the "regsvr32 /u mssip32.dll" and the "regsvr32 mssip32.dll" commands.
I have not tried to restart itunes again. I figured I wait to see what to do next. What do you think? Vinnie

[SOLVED] fluxbox program launching & incorrect $DISPLAY

I've recently done a full upgrade on my box over the weekend and have now noticed that when I try launching commands in fluxbox the DISPLAY environment variable no longer appears to be being set correctly. My setup is as follows, I have a single XServer with 3 XScreens. If I try launching a program on display #1 or #2 and echo out the variable to the shell I can see it being set as :1 and :2 rather than :0.1 or :0.2.
I'm not sure where this issue came from but for now I've worked around it by having a small script reset the variable for me and then call the program I want. It's doing the job for now until I can look into that a bit more. This is just calling the first argument, you could tack on $2, $3 etc for more. It won't do much harm.

I just did a replace on my ~/.fluxbox/menu file to prepend all entries with it.
*Edit* Just digging around the source code, a very recent (Jan 6th) commit mentions this which is sounding like it might have introduced it's own bug or conflict, sounds like it's probably a minor "out of sync" bit to do with whatever version of fluxbox + xlib I have so i suspect it will sort itself within the next few days as one of the packages updates (I got the issue after a pacman -Su command).
bugfix: do not assume ':number.screen' as the result of 'DisplayString()'
a newer xlib recently changed the result of 'DisplayString()' a little bit:
instead of returning ':0.0' or ':1.0' it yields ':0' or ':1'. our code to
transform this string into something that includes the currently used
Screen worked only on something like ':0.0'.
we now find the '.' after the ':' and strip that part away.

I can confirm that if you checkout the current source code and compile it it handles setting the $DISPLAY var correctly. Some traces and echos as I clicked around, the "set display" bit is fluxbox setting it as the mouse changes and the run command is invoked.

VPN slows local program launch

I am running VPN Client 5.0.03.0530. After the VPN client connects, launching any program on the local machine is very slow (approx 10 seconds). Once up, the program runs fine.
Any help would be appreciated.

is split tunneling enabled on the vpn or not?
if it is not, this might be a dns / active director issue.
the computer(s) having the problem, are they part of a windows AD domain?
is split tunneling/split DNS enabled on the vpn?
