Program start up time.

I have just upgraded to vision unlimited on youview from the essentials and really like the interface and the playlist facility is great. The only problem can be the start up time (grey arrow when its loading) of an individual show. It can take up to 30 secs to start although it always does. I had a bt vision box previously which started programs almost immediately so just wondering if this is normal on the new/ youview interface. Weirdly hd films start almost immediately.

It seems to be slower since the Vision player was last updated both for SD and HD programming

  • Start a program a specific time

    Hello
    I have a program to shut down mac os x at a certain time (or you can use energy saver) but does anyone know of a program where you can say for example launch microsoft word at 3pm or in 200 minutes?
    Cheers
    Dan

    In Energy Saver preferences, under Schedule you can program a startup time.
    If you have the program you wish to run in you Login Items - Start at login - then it will run.
    I believe for this to work, you may have to enable automatic login.

  • Macbook pro (2012) was swapped for a new one and my empty hard rive was swapped, but now my start up time has doubled?

    I bought a Macbook 2 weeks ago, in the first week one of the keys broke off so I went to the Apple store and they replaced the whole thing for me. I was asked if I wanted to swap the hard drive for my old one and I said yes just to save myself time, even though my hardrive is completely empty- I havent downloaded any programs, saved any pictures etc.
    Now my start up time on this new Macbook has pretty much doubled - its a blank lit-up screen for a long time before the apple and log in bar appears - has any one else had this problem? This didn't happen on my old one!

    first - go to system preferences - startup disk and select your hard drive as the startup drive....restart your macbook....
    if that doesn't do it, open disk utility and verify your disk permissions - repair them if errors are found....once the repair is done, restart your macbook...
    see if the above sorts outs your issues....
    good luck

  • How do you clear the chart in an AI Waveform Scan VI upon program start?

    I am using a waveform scan vi in a program. The output of the vi is set to "Waveform". What I want to do is have the program automaticly clear the waveform chart each time the program starts. Currently I must start the program, right click on the chart and select clear. I have attempted to use the chart history property node, which I assumed is the correct path to take but so far my attempts have been unsuccessful.

    Ahhh, waveforms... These got better in LV 7 I hear.
    Will this do it?

  • IPhoto starts every time we boot our MBP

    iPhoto starts up every time we boot our MBP from a full shutdown. How do we make it stop?
    Thanks!

    Since you are learning, when you right-click or ctrl-click on a dock icon, you will get a contextual menu. One of the Items is to have the program start at login. You may have accidentally done this with iPhoto which may explain how it got into the login items.

  • Way to Erase All Start/Stop Time Data?

    I used a DJ plugin called BPMer to load the BPMs into all my MP3s. It had an option "Optimize Start and Stop Times." This helps the program skip ambient intros of songs in order to beatmatch, mix and crossfade more efficiently. The only problem is that the information is retained under Get Info:Options:Start/Stop Times even if the plugin is turned off. It is stored in the ID3 info. I am wondering how to universally delete this information or reset it to default because I do not feel like going to every song individually to reset it (I'd have to do it about 6000 times). I tried selecting multiple songs, but the Start/Stop does not show up under Options when multiple tracks are selected.
    Also don't suggest to re-run the BPMer program with the box unchecked for optimize start/stop times. I tried it. I figured out how to make BPMer not edit the times in the future, but it won't erase or overwrite the old start/stop info on tracks I already used it on.
    Sort of a weird problem, but any ideas to save me from the nightmare of doing this individually 6000 times are greatly appreciated.

    Doug Adams has a script over at his great site that should help with what you're trying to do.

  • 80-90 second start-up time on Macbook 2010.

    I posted this question last week, but didnt get any real help.
    I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro 13 inch.
    UPGRADED: 8 GB Ram and a 500 GB Hybrid Hard Drive.
    Start up time for my Mac is 80-90 seconds, which is a bit longer then I expected after the upgrades. I already read of D's list of suggestions and performed all system checks that i felt were appropriate. My hard drive is less then half full and have no log in items.
    Is there anyway to see of there is a program that's causing the slow start up? Please Advise.

    If you did a fresh install of OS X and there is no annoying startup programs or network requirements (iCloud), minus the time you log in it should boot from bong to desktop in about 30 seconds on a standard 5,400 RPM hard drive, slightly faster for a 7,200 RPM and about 20 seconds for a SSD.
    Given the bloat of 10.8+, add 5-10 more seconds to each of those times. So your boot times are certainly not normal.
    Since it's a hybrid, it depends upon what data is in the SSD portion and how large the SSD portion is.
    Perhaps the software or hardware mechanism for determining what frequently used data the hybrid is placing in the SSD portion is not working or can't work properly with OS X as it's designed to work with Windows.
    Perhaps the hybrid drive is defective.
    Far as I know, Apple doesn't support hybrid drives, outside of their "Fusion Drive" perhaps there is a conflict of some sort occuring.
    There is a mile long thread here about Seagate Hybrid drive "disaster", perhaps you should take a look there.

  • Running multiple instances of program at same time problems

    I have a c++ program that uses BerkeleyDB 4.8.26 with transactions. Program works well, and I can run multiple instances of program and they cooperate on database very well. Problem arises when I run a small test program that runs 10 instances of the same program at same time.
    Test program opens database with transactions, it does some database reads and writes and quits. This test is run in 10 instances of the same program at the same time. Some instances run and finish well, other instances end up with some of these errors:
    unable to allocate memory for the lock table
    PANIC: Cannot allocate memory
    Error opening environment: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery
    another with:
    db_files/__db.001: No such file or directory
    db_files: No such file or directory
    Error opening environment: Invalid argument
    others with this one:
    Log file corrupt at LSN: [1][84474]
    fileops: close db_files/log.0000000001
    PANIC: Invalid argument
    unable to join the environment
    db_files: No such file or directory
    Error opening environment: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery
    I don't understand reason of this error, as I thought (and read) that BerkeleyDB should be able to handle multiple instances accessing database and is thread-safe.
    I tried to run the test on both NFS and local disk drive with same results.
    Is there anyone with ide what could be causing this problem ? My platform is x86_64 GNU/Linux 2.6.18-164.el5

  • Start up time

    Hello:
    There are times when I am starting up Aperture where it takes about 5 seconds for the images to appear, and then there are times when it takes in excess of 20 seconds. As far as I can tell, it is not a function of the number of other applications open, or other possible "distractions". Anybody else having the same experience and/or have an explanation/fix for this behavior?
    Thanks,
    Dex

    Hello:
    First, thanks for the input. I have kept working with Aperture, and there seems to be a trend as to when it starts up fast vs. times its start up time is slow.
    The Activity monitor is not showing much of anything before or after I start up Aperture. Of course, Activity goes up a bit while Aperture is starting.
    After opening Aperture, if I go ahead and just immediately shut it down (I don't even "leave" the project in which I found it when the program started), the next time I start the program it loads up in a matter of about 5 seconds. It does not matter whether the program is in preview mode or not.
    If instead, I move around in Aperture before shutting it down, then the next time I start up the program, it will take at least 20 seconds before the start up process is finished.
    These are my observation at the moment. I don't know if anybody else is having the same experience, but if you are and can shed some light on the matter, I would certainly appreciate it.
    Also, am I being a bit picky. Based on my configuration, is it normal for Aperture to take 20 sec plus to load up (I have about 7000 pictures in the library)? I know photoshop/elements takes a while
    Thanks in advance,

  • How do I Initialize a button to be enabled when the program start and if pressed then disable and gray it until a certain action is taken then comeback to the enabled state?

    Hi!!!
    I'm doing a program with the following buttons: Run, Abort, Repeat and Exit. When the program starts from the first time only Run and Exit button will be enabled and not disabled so the user doesn't press the Abort and Repeat button. The user has to select from a menu bar the test he wants to make then if he presses the Run button a pop up window will come up asking for the serial number and his name, and will comeback to the main program with the entered information. The user now has to press the Run button again to start the test, when the test starts the Abort button now will be enable
    d and not disabled, when the test ends the Repeat button will be enabled and disabled. If the user selects new test from the menu bar the whole process will come again. I'm having problems with the menu bar because it has a time-out and when that occurs the program gets crazy. Also I'm not sure about what mechanical action I have to use for the Run. Do I need to count the times the Run button is press so the 2nd time is pressed it will be disabled. Do I need to use a sequential and where I initialize the buttons so the first time they are like I want (Inside or OUtside the while loop that ends with the Exit button) Any help wil be appreciated.

    I'm not sure about the menu bar because i've never used them..i tend to go for listboxes instead.
    As for the buttons, if you want to wire the button to a local variable then the button must be a switch, otherwise a latch is ok. But remember you will probably need to reset the button at the end of a run (ie. wire a constant through the while loop to the local variable for the switch). To initialize the buttons at the start, wire constants to their locals outside the main execution while loop.
    Put the disabling/enabling functions in the parts of the program the button has activated. For example, you say the 2nd time the Run button is pressed you run the 'test', enable the Abort button and want to disable the Run button - put these property nodes into th
    e 'test' sequence/loop.
    Sequences are useful to control when you want buttons to be modified. I use them if i cant sequence the order of execution any other way. But try and avoid using multiple frames as it can get confusing if you start hiding code.
    If you are still having problems, post an example of your program in no higher than LV 6.0.2 and i will try and adapt it for you.

    hi:

              Dimension screenSize = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getScreenSize();
              Dimension labelSize = l.getPreferredSize();
              setLocation(screenSize.width / 2 - (labelSize.width / 2), screenSize.height / 2 - (labelSize.height / 2));
              addMouseListener(new MouseAdapter() {

              Runnable waitRunner = new Runnable() {
                   public void run() {
                        try {
                             Thread.sleep(pause);

    below is the constructor that started the splash and the main:
    public static void main(String args[])
    PictureViewer PV = new PictureViewer();
    standaloneApp = true;
    splash Splash sw = new Splash("prestigestetho.gif",null, 5000);
    the splash appear just fine, the problem is that it appears after
    my main program appear first.
    I try to shift the priority of splash, which is sw first and then PV,
    in that case the splash screen appear first then PV, but this time PV
    stay in front of sw makes it totally not viewable.
    is there any method to make splash screen appear first and on the screen you can see the process of main program starting up (for example
    : loading this ...., loading that.....) something like acrobat reader's
    startup screen, and then splash screen disappear and then main program

    private JTabbedPane tabbedPane = null;

    // GraphicsConfiguration from it in createSplashScreen()
    if (!isApplet()) {
