Program stealing all my ram

I have a little problem with a program called ocspd.
It runs all the time with no problem, but sometimes it begin using up all my ram. This resolves in my iBook to run really, really slow.
Does anybody know what this program does, or how I make it stop??

hi Baruch,
ocsp is an Online Certificate Status Protocol utility, and i bet ocspd is the daemon for that... http://www.hmug.org/man/1/ocsp.php
i bet it's used in web browsers to authenticate to sites that use this certificate protocol...
now, as to why it's using a ton of RAM... that's strange.
- does it still happen after a reboot?
- are your browsers up to date? what browser do you use?
cheers

You may not expressly be using all the RAM in your machine but OS X will, whether you know it or not.
Each time you read a file from disk, whatever was read is cached by the system; when the file or program is no longer in use, the memory is marked free for the system to recover for other purposes but as long as it remains in memory the next time you need to access that disk information it's simply read from memory.
The more RAM, the more disk data is kept around and the faster your machine will operate until that memory needs to be recovered or you reboot (or otherwise flush the disk cache.)

  • PSE 13 organizer consumes all available RAM and crashes

I have found that I am unable to use PSE13 Organizer for more than a couple of hours without my system becoming unstable. Organizer keeps requesting RAM until it has taken up all available RAM and my virtual memory file has expanded to fill the hard drive it is on. At this point Organizer and most other running programs crash, the system becomes unstable and Windows issues  out of memory warnings. I am at a loss as to what to do about this. Does anyone know if Adobe is planning on fixing this rather major bug?

That's the first time I see that problem on Elements forums and bug reports.
Investigating your particular situation will require more info:
    - on your hardware, your preferences (scratch disk)
    - your organizer usage (photos or videos), autoanalyzer and other opened softwares
    - any plugins?
What happens if you stop and restart the organizer at shorter intervals? Do you see the RAM and virtual memory grow the same way?
The only remotely similar situation I have met on all Elements versions is the impossibility to delete a large number of files in the same batch. The Organizer slowly fills all the RAM, then issues an error message and rolls back to the situation before the delete command. No crash.

  • Why isn't all my RAM utilized?

    Hi there,
    I have a PowerBook G4 17” 1.67 GHz running on OSX 10.3.9
The system came with 512 MB DDR SDRAM and I had the shop add an additional 512 at the time of purchase - 1 GB total. I have noticed since the point of purchase (two years ago) on the Activity Monitor that the system never uses more than 450ish of my memory at any given time no mater what I’m doing. I run video processing software (Final Cut Pro, MAX/MSP/Jitter) and I would expect it to utilize more RAM, seeing that there is a Gig it could use. I am concerned because the video processing work that I am doing requires at least 1 Gig of RAM and I’m wondering if some problems I am having with my video processing is actually a product of my system not utilizing all the RAM available to it. I can see two 512 chips in my system profiler. The Activity Monitor displays that there is at least 550 MB unused at all times. It seems one chip never gets used. Is there some way to allocate memory to a program in OSX? Why isn’t my system using that RAM? Is there a problem, or is this normal?
any insights here would be most appreciated.
    thx - renee

    Please explain.

  • Premiere takes all my ram

    Hi
When i eksport a file from premierer, all my ram gets used up. my ram goes from 20 % to 80 and 90 % of total ram usage.
This also happens when i try to play a importet movie in the program area. Its pretty annoying because when i eksport a file, i can't do anything else on my computer. i got 12 GB of ram, and a i5 processor.

  • Where has all my RAM gone? (Super Slow!)

I am still struggling with the same problem. My MacBook is SUPER SLOW after Snow Leopard installment.
    1. I have reinstalled - did not work
    2. I have done various disk repairs (all ok!) accept for a Warning that reads: SUID file "System/Library?CoreS....has been modified and will not be repaired.
    3. I have add an extra 1Gig RAM (now 2 Gig RAM) - with no effect. The Activity Monitor still show that I only have 7-10MB memory available, the same as when I had 1 Gig RAM. Where does all my memory go too?
    4. I have tried upgrade to 10.6.2 (The combo). As soon as I start the following error appear: SafariErrorDomainError2. (Is this my problem or Apple's problem?) So, my Mac is still not upgrade to 10.6.2....!?
    5. I did the Command Option R/P. The computer is then back to normal for only 2 minutes and then it gradually gets slower and slower and showed that I have used 1,99Gig of RAM on the Activity Monitor.
When my Mac starts up, al is well for 2 minutes and then it gets slower gradually and gradually. Sucking up all my memory. Where is my memory going too?
I am loosing money and time. The advice from South Africa Consultants was not helpful. I need to get working, and I do not very much want to return to Microsoft!

    Hi Tim.
Thank you for the advice. I did follow the list as refered to in resetting spotlight indexes. I left my computer on the whole night for the process to complete. Hopefully it did. There was nothing the next morning telling me the process is complete.
    The problem still exist.
If 'mdimport' is either not running or is consuming very little CPU then it has finished rebuilding the index. mdimport will still run from time to time to index any new files added to the computer and/or old files that have been updated.
If you check the 'mds' process, is it now consuming less real memory (e.g. a few hundred MB is normal. More than 1 GB would be abnormal.)
A funny thing is that my computer show that the root user is disable, but the programs of the root user is still running as seen on the activity monitor, it is the processes of the root user that uses all my RAM and keeping my computer slow. It is so slow I cannot work on it. I am trying to resolve this problem know for a long time and no one where able to help me, until know. I feel hopeless!
In a Unix operating system, every process must be associated with a user ID. The operating system itself is not exempt from this rule. All processes which are started by the operating system will typically run as either 'root' or one of a number of other special accounts. There are actually quite a few of these special accounts, though you will typically only see processes running under a few of them. It is not possible for a user to actually log into the Mac using one of these special accounts (they have "locked" passwords - which basically means no password would be accepted to log in via one of these special accounts. The Mac simply will not allow a user to log in. When the accounts are needed, the operating system will kick off processes & jobs running under the appropriate special user accounts.
The fact that there are lots of processes running as root is not a problem and is not the cause of your memory shortage. Everyone who runs OS X has these processes running on their machine and aren't having memory shortages as a result.
The issue in your case is that one of these processes seems to be single-handedly gobbling up lots of your RAM, and we haven't been able to determine why.
I tried to download 10.6.2 but it does not download properly. I have tried this download many times. Might this be the reason for my problem, the fact that I am running 10.6.0 and not 10.6.2? Or are there other solutions.
I am far from any city and are not able to take my Macbook to any store for assistance.
I am concerned that not only are you having issues with the 'mds' process, but also unable to update your OS.
Go into "System Preferences" -> "Accounts" and verify that where you see your own user account listed you see the word "Admin" printed just below your name (in the list of accounts on the left side of the panel.) If not, let us know.
Next (assuming you are an 'Admin'), start "Disk Utility" and ask it to "Repair Permissions" on your Macintosh HD. You should also ask it to "Verify Disk". You will get some errors on "Repair Permissions" (Apple has a list of known errors that it will generate, but it will repair any problems not on Apple's list of known issues), but "Verify Disk" should come back with no errors. If "Verify Disk" has issues, please let us know and we'll explain how to do a "Repair Disk" (you can't perform the 'repair' on the same disk you booted from).
After doing this, restart your Mac, log in, run Software Update and see if you are able to apply the updates.
If Spotlight indexed your disk while some corruption existed on it (this what the Repair Permissions is meant to correct) then we may need to rebuild it yet again.
There is a more brute-force way to fix the problem involving the "Archive Install" (a way of re-installing only the operating system files on your computer without affecting any user accounts or applications you've installed... though you will lose some settings (e.g. you'll probably have to re-define your printers.)) but you wont lose any of your data or applications. I'd prefer to see if we can't fix your problem without needing to resort to this.

  • Please help, my Mini is eating up all my Ram & suffers from annoying bugs!

    Hello
This is my first official post with a few problems as I just got my Mini and as I hear around the boards, there are a number of things wrong with the mini...
Here is my first problem :
My Mini seems to eat up a lot of ram and for some reason, when I quit all of my apps and leave only one or two open it does not go up... Instead it just sits there and if I try to open more apps, it falls dangerously low and I feel the computer is kind of suffering...
On restart it is doing just fine again.
Here are some examples (please click on links to see Activity Monitor images):
The case when it goes bad
    http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/1645/ramconsumption6ba.jpg
And this is after restart or startup
    http://img489.imageshack.us/img489/3280/ramconsumption25es.jpg
What is eating up all my ram? And why does it not bounce back to the free ram it should have? It is like the apps suddenly double in RAM consumption...
    Second problem :
When I start up my mini, each and every time I have to remind the mini to connect to my Airport Express, I have to go to the menu and pull down the menu bar and that is all. I don't even have to select it, cause it does it by its self, but not until I remind it. This is a rather annoying part, I cannot make it understand that it should JUST connect to my Airport setting...
Are there any solutions for this?
    Third Problem :
When I startup the mini, the sound is always set to default, meaning it comes through the speakers at half volume. I always set it to full, so that I can control my speakers instead of going both to the mac and my speakers to control my sound setting.
Does anyone have this problem? And how can I fix it?
Also,I can only hear the startup chime via the mini and not via my speakers. Is this a universal problem with the minis? If so I can live with it, though it is pretty annoying.
    Fourth Problem :
As I am writing this topic in this forum, my keyboard is kind of slow, it is not reacting as fast as it should. It is set to fast in the preference pane and even the controls of going up and down on a page via the arrow keys don't seem to keep its beat. It does it once and I have to press it how ever many lines I want to go up, unlike before on my G5 I just press and hold the button and it will go as far as I let it before I let it go.
    What is that all about?
    Fifth Problem :
Though this is a small problem, I don't know if this could be major later. I tend to get digital distortion during my usage of Safari. Certain places, I visit I can see digital distortion. Like when I scroll on CNN.COM. It makes some strange lines and I cannot figure out what is wrong with it...
Now, the mini was once considered to be a cheap investment, but as I found out, I had to go a long way and very close to the price of an iMac to get my Mini to work. See I have an Apple Studio Displace 17 inch ADC. Now, to my surprise, as I was about to hook up my mini to my nice Apple screen (Only a generation old), I was in for a big shock... It was simply not compatible... Not one bit... Leaving me with the bitter taste of having to pay an additional $130 for an DVI to ADC converter. And that really made me angry.
But aside from that, I have to say, I am not certain that I want to keep this mini... I have 10 days, to decide if I want to keep it or not... I can get a full refund if I don't like it... And so far, I am not sure I like it as much as I thought I would...
Rosetta aside, I think it is pretty fast, in all the native Intel apps. So, we'll see if I can eliminate some of these problems and if I can, I will keep it, but I am not sure how many of these problems I am going to need fixed before I seriously want to keep it...
I am going from one problematic G5 Dual 1.8 Powermac to another problematic Apple computer... It can get a little too overwhelming...
So any help anyone can give me at this point, would be very much appreciated...
Dual : G5 1.8 Ghz, MacMini Core Duo, iPod, iPod Shuffle & mini   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   Was the mini the correct decision?

    Hi PPC7410!!!
Wow, thank you so much for your post, I really appreciate you taking the time to set a few things straight for me...
And yes, you are right, the Apple Studio Display was bought with my G5 Dual 1.8. So I kind of didn't want to buy a new monitor.
The main reason why I bought the mini now was because I am saving up for a MacBook Pro. I am going mobile soon and need a good computer. But, I want to wait till Apple fixes all the small problems with the MacBook Pros and I hope to get one early next year. And that is where the mini comes into the picture. I need a computer I can have while I save up for the laptop. And while I can still get some decent money for the G5, I am going to sell it and use the money on the laptop. Once I get that, I will give the mini to my father who can use it to keep in touch with me and start his digital life...
    But...
A little about why I went with the min in the first place...
I bought a Dual 1.8 G5 PowerMac not long ago, well when it came out. Since day one I had serious problems with it. It was so bad that Apple even sent me a replacement, but that only came back with other problems. The first one had a logic board defect, it just panicked almost all the time... (On each startup there was a good chance my monitor went blue and a lot of cryptic codes were written all over the screen. Even when I tried the hardware test DVD, it couldn't complete it because it went into panic mode and I had to pull the plug cause nothing responded on the G5.)
Ok, so I waited almost 3 weeks for the new one, while I was in the middle of a project (which died because of this), and I was really pulling hairs by this time. So the new Powermac arrived, and I had to return my faulty G5 to where I got it. I live on the 4th floor and no elevators. 2 weeks before I got my G5 my back went out, so I don't have to tell anyone who owns a G5 Powermac just how heavy it is. Perhaps out of the box it wouldn't be so back but the box was big enough to house a small family. The new ones are smaller I see.
Ok, the new one arrived, and it didn't panic or do the things that the other machine did. However it was birthed with entire new set of problems which started to show up a little bit at a time. These problems presented them selves in strange bottleneck results. Applications such as iTunes would suffer with a G5 Dual 1.8 powermac and 1GB of Ram. The specs were directly from Apple. I didn't add anything to it.
A friend of mine has a G4 400mhz and I am telling you, that sometimes, that machines does things FASTER than my G5 Dual 1.8Ghz. That blew my mind...
I have to be honest, the hammer fell hardest when I pre-ordered Apple's Aperture in hopes of really getting some kind of real harmony between my Mac and my Nikon D50. But alas, when I got it, tried to install it, it said it could NOT be installed on my machine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yet the Apple seller, on the phone said, SUUUURREE it can, why couldn't it... I thought ; well yeah it is suppose to be the best and fastest mac out there, why would it have a problem with it? But I was wrong... and when I called them telling them that I couldn't install the app, they didn't want to cut me some slack. So I was stuck with Aperture 1.0... It looked good on the shelf, but that is all... It was a waste of money....
To be honest, I simply gave up at that time... I have just had so many problems with the G5 I have, that I wanted to downgrade to something that just did, the normal jobs of everyday work, such as surfing the web, emailing, occasional Photoshopping( With Adobe's press note telling us not to hold our breaths for any Uni-Photoshop this year, kind of feels like a kick in the teeth).
So, I didn't expect much from the mini. I know I couldn't do heavy work on it but all in all, speed wise, it is as fast as my G5 on a good day.
So aside from Rosetta, which is a real drag when you use it, it is a pretty good little machine... Just hope they will sort out these problems sooner than they did with so many other macs with ticks and bugs.
Again, thank you for answering my questions... I didn't quite understand the RAM thing, but you might be right, I just didn't encounter that on my G5...
Take care and have a great day!

  • Is there a solution yet for FCPX eating all the RAM?

FCPX is eating all my RAM and 'Memory Clean' keeps having to kick in so that the system doesnt stop completely. I have searched various forums and sites for an answer but noone seems to have a solution yet.
My events and projects are all on external (7200rpm) drives, I use Event Manager X to only open what I need per project, and background processing is off, but the RAM just keeps diving down until the system almost freezes. Very frustrating, especially if a client is present.
    Yes, I've trashed the preferences.
    umm...help?

I do not believe that MC is capable of purging Video RAM thus the memory on your graphic card.
There are two RAM problems with FCPx or should I say OS X 10.6 & 10.7
10.6 & 10.7 does a bad job (10.6 worse than 10.7) @ setting RAM Free. This problem shows itself when overall system performance (I.e. opening a WIndow in the Finder) becomes a matter of 10 seconds etc...
There there is the Video RAM problem which is pertaining to FPCx and all versions of OS X. This problems shows itself after working intensively in FPCx... All one needs to do is to do LOTS of editing in the Timeline... On my setup with 1GB of Video RAM it will take approx. (depending on how many tasks (Edits) I am completing) 20 minutes to reveal itself. To begin with (after opening FCPX) it simply flies. No matter what I do, there is no lag just a VERY responsive app... Then after those 20 min. the CTI (Playhead) starts lagging and jumping in play. The skimmer starts choking, menus (Inspector etc) are opening at turtle-tempo...  However, my Free System RAM is still @ about 10 GB.... so lots and lots of RAM... The video RAM is what is being used and NOT SET FREE.
Rebooting the Mac at this point is the only remedy. Which is OK... My rMBP boots in 7 seconds. So I am rebooting approx. every 30 minutes in a big session.
Whenever you guys experience these problems, try to take 5 minutes to recap and write to the Feedback. The more scenarios we can provide them with the better their chances of finding the culprit.
I personally find the FCPx crew to be HIGHLY responsive to feedback. THEY def. care

  • How can we disable the 'Improvement Program' from all the apps in TCS5?

How can we disable the 'Improvement Program' from all the apps in TCS5, so that the end users are not able to see the option in the help menu?
We have tried changing the value of bUsageMeasurement (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\(product name)\(version)\FeatureLockdown) to zero, but it did not help.

You’re probably going to have to contact Support on that one.

  • The FInal Step, i have created a program to all my specifications and i am now ready to connect the hardware

I have created a program to all my specifications and i am now ready to connect the hardware.
My program was created to automate the cleaning process of an atmostpheric chamber. It controls two valves based on the pressure readings and time intervals. When creating this program i figured that if a could make a boolean turn on or off based on the pressure readings then it would be no problem somehow wiring it to send a signal to the hardware. I have reached that point and don't know how to proceed.  I was told that the first step is to figure out what kind of Card is being interfaced with the program.
I have read up on this subject and it seems like there is many ways to do it.
All sugestions will be greatly appreciated

I'm not sure how you can create the program without knowing what hardware you're going to be using. But...  What have you read up on? You will need to select your data acquisition hardware. What kind of signals do you have? What kind of transducers do you have? What kind of actuators do you have? You may want to start with:
    Introduction to Data Acquisition
    Digital Voltage Measurement Fundamentals
    Complete Data Acquisition Tutorial
EDIT: Re-reading your post and seeing Waldemar's response: Do you actually already have a card installed?

  • Deleting programs with all containing files at once

how can i uninstall an application wich concists of many small files spreaded all over the harddisc?? Do i have to search for all those files separately?? Or is there a way to remove a program with all the files at once???
Does anyone know how see the folders of the consisting files when using the find function????

CleanApp is definitely something I'm gonna keep a tab on, looks to work very well and it never hurts to have another option. For the number of people I have asking how to uninstall some apps within OS X this should be a great alternative.
One question (as I don't have a mac of my own to test this with) I have though is: Can CleanApp be used to remove Apple core applications like garageband and sherlock...things that may have come with OS X that I KNOW I'm never gonna use...

  • Are all 4 RAM slots USER-UPGRADABLE in 27", 2.8MHz, i7 iMac?

I haven't dug into my iMac yet but am wondering if all 4 RAM slots are user-upgradable... before I fork out the money for more RAM.
Currently I have 8GB (4x2GB). I thought the 8GB would be enough for the graphic designing I do (was managing with my previous 1GB on my other iMac), but quickly found out that I need a lot more. The max is 16GB (4x4GB).
Anyone know if ALL four RAM slots are USER-UPGRADABLE?
    Thanks!

Yes, look in your manual and it will show you how that all four slots are user upgradeable. If you want to upgrade to 16 GB you will need 4 x 4 GB chips. OWC's memory is highly regarded on this forum because they specialize in Macs and provide quality products and service. Memory there can be found at:

  • How do you set default programs for all users when deploying Windows 8.1?

I have my Windows 8.1 image set up the way I want including the start screen, theme, etc. But how can I set the default programs for all users. Most of out computers are non-touch and I want the desktop apps (e.g. Windows Photo Viewer), not the store apps
to be the default for opening pictures, videos, etc. Can that be done?

Great question, this has been bugging me too!
So, I did some research by using "Set Default Programs" app in Windows 8. Then I ran the super ProcMon.exe tool from Sysinternals.com <Thanks Mark!>
After filtering out the junk, I could see some *interesting* writes to the registry:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.jpg\UserChoice]
    "Hash"="57y87/ogggU="
    "ProgId"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Jpeg"
But the "Hash" part had me concerned. I did some internet searching for the hash, and came across a post and a pointer to a blog with some answers.  This is both good news and bad.
    Background:
One of the problems with Windows XP is that any program can come in and party on the entire system. No, I don't want you to put a shortcut on the desktop, install a crappy IE Toolbar, and change the default file association for *.jpg files to your app, I
just wanted to play a stupid game. Since Windows 7, Microsoft has been attempting to block that functionality from the stupid applications, and give them back to the user. Take note of the last line in the ITaskbarList3 interface:
Applications cannot programmatically pin themselves to the taskbar. That functionality is reserved strictly for the user.
Of course that sucks for us IT Pros who may wish to create *default* working environments for corporate images, but there are some tricks we can do.
    Solution:

New for Windows 8 is a dism command: /Get-DefaultAppAssociations that allows you to export a control case from a known good computer. Microsoft the supports importing the exported xml file via GPO. For example, before I changed the file association, .AVI
was pointing to the Modern App, after the change the /export-DefaultAppAssociations shows change to the new app:
    From:
    <Association Identifier=".avi" ProgId="AppXhjhjmgrfm2d7rd026az898dy2p1pcsyt" ApplicationName="Video" />
    To:
    <Association Identifier=".avi" ProgId="VLC.avi" ApplicationName="VLC media player" />
I am still doing some investigation to see if a GPO is required, or if you can inject the association into a local user account. Also, if you do have some Modern Windows 8 Touch Tablets, it would recomend keeping most of the Modern App defaults in place,
perhaps seperate GPO's for Desktops/Laptops vs Tablets?

  • Premiere Pro headless gobbling all my RAM

Running CS5 here. I'm doing an Export from PP using the "queue" function, so Adobe Media Encoder is launching.
But after a few minutes, my machine grinds to a halt as Premiere gobbles up all my RAM, my OS X creates a whopping 38GB virtual memory swap file and my startup SSD is completely filled (this Mac has 32GB of physical RAM installed). Everything pinwheels and I have to do a hard power down of my workstation.
Any idea why it's not respecting the 20GB limit I set on the apps? Is this a Premiere problem or an AME problem?

    Hi Todd,
I am busy transcoding in Encore (3 time Lines +- 75min each) it is using 23 gig of my 24 gig ram and it is set to only use 20 Gig. when I started it was going quick until the ram hit +-18 gig then it started going slower and slower. It has been going now for 4 hours.
    System Spec:
    Asus P6X58D-E
    980X OC to 4.1
24 Gig Corsair Gt Dominator Ram at 1600
    GTX 480
600 gig Veloci Rapter OS (windows 7 64 bit ultimate)
    4 x 1tb Samsung raid 0 Media
    3 x 1tb Samsung raid 0 Render and output
both of the above run off a Intel raid controller (RS2BL080)
Black Magic Ultrastudio Pro USB 3
    Production Premium CS5 and CS5.5
If I open windows task manager it shows that Pr is using 21 473 440K and Encore is using 446 644K of memory. the funny thing is if I close Pr then En hangs and shuts down and if I start En by it's self and try and import the Pr sequences it says something about not been able read the format. Do you think this could have something to do with the blackmagic settings?

  • How to find out in program which all classes have implemented an interface

    Hello,
I have created an interface and few classes are implementing the interface.
I want to know in a program which all class have implemented the interface.
Is it possible to find it out and how?
    Regards,
    Bikash.

    Hi Bikash,
Read the Database view VSEOIMPLEM with where condition REFCLSNAME = Interface Name and version = 1.
This would give you all the classes which have implemented the interface and are active...
If you want to look at the values that the field version can have then see Type Group SEOC ans search for version....
    Hope this help...
