What is the best way to combine or split video files?  I have found a third party program that will do this (ScenalzyerLive), but I would think that Adobe Premiere or Photoship could to this as well.  My understanding is that Premiere does not actually change the root file, which is what I want to do.  I am less concerned about using Premiere to create great videos to burn to a dvd than to quickly combine my short videos into one video file (i.e. 13th birthday).  Conversely, I would like to split my long videos that are 2 hours long from my old, old 1992 camcorder (Sony Video 8 TRV21 Handycam with .avi files) into much shorter segments.
With technology today, I think a lot of people simply want to combine and split videos instead of create great transitions from one scene to another.  Espceially now that you can use remote into your computer from your iphone to play videos (i.e through AirVideo).  Ease of finding relevant and organized clips is getting more important.

The reason I change the original file is that I can watch my videos from my
iPhone or iPad remotely (i.e. through the AirVideo app) in an organized
manner.  I currently have nearly a terabyte of video that obviously cannot
be stored on my iPhone or iPad.  Therefore,if I am away from my house and want
to show someone my child's soccer game, I don't like having to remote into my
home computer to play 30 clips (files), versus one clip (file) that was
combined.  I think with "the cloud" direction we are going, and more and more
    people watching videos remotely.
My editing of the original files is not extensive.  I simple cut out parts of
scenes I don't want, and combine others.  ScenalyzerLive 4.0 does this very
    well.
Since there is not an Adobe PRE app that allows me to watch videos remotely,
    this is the best alternative.

  • Program to split archive files

Hi, I need a program that will allow me to make archives of Final Cut project files so that I can burn em to multiple DVDs. The only program I could find was Machacha and unfortunately, you can only split single files into pieces, if you drop a .rar or a .zip with all the files I need contained within, it just extracts the files. So I even tried dropping a folder, but that doesn't work either.
Anyone know what apps there are to create multiple file archives, so that if I need these files again I can rejoin them from separate DVDs or other storage locations?
    Thanks in advance

You can do this with the Disk Utility and Terminal applications. Make a disk image to store your FCP project files. Then use the Terminal application to run a command to split the file up into segments:
<pre class="command">hdiutil segment -o segtest -segmentSize 33m GarageBandJampack4.dmg</pre>Running that gave me 5 segments for the archive:
    <pre class="command">created: /Volumes/Small Partition/segtest.dmg
    created: /Volumes/Small Partition/segtest.002.dmgpart
    created: /Volumes/Small Partition/segtest.003.dmgpart
    created: /Volumes/Small Partition/segtest.004.dmgpart
    created: /Volumes/Small Partition/segtest.005.dmgpart</pre>
The breakdown of the command is this:
hdiutil - the name of the command.
segment - create segments from an existing disk image
-o segtest - the output file name of the first segment
-segmentSize 33m - size of the segments you want. (Use "g" for gigabytes).
GarageBandJampack4.dmg - The disk image you want to split up.
When you want to rejoin your pieces, you copy them to the same folder and double-click on the first segment...

  • How to split video files into clips

please help this noob. i have adobe master collection cs3 and i'm totally lost as to how i can take a large video file and split it into various clips... example being a 20 minute fireworks display and i want to split that movie into a few dozen clips of specific fire works events. what package do i use and how might i go about setting the various start and finish markers and then export those chosen clips.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks much
    michael

Exporting segments out one at a time is hardly rocket surgery.
At the top of the timeline is a movable bar called the "Work Area Bar". You can set the in and out points of this bar over the area you wish to export, go to "File/Export/Movie" and make sure you have "Work Area Bar" selected rather than "Entire Sequence". Export to the same project settings you're working with. Repeat for each section.

  • I want to make my program can Import video files to PPro.

    As I told before.
I'm trying to import a file from another program, something it already can support if I import it manually.
My final goal is when I press a button1 at another program, then PPro imports "c:\1.mp4" file to already opened project.
Also when I press a button2 at another program, then PPro imports "c:\2.mp4" file to already opened project.
So I tried to make jsx file and to build panel.
To use jsx file at After Effect I typed "afterfx -r c:\1.jsx" on command line.
But I can't find any enterence to PPro.
What should I comand when I push the button1 ?

Ok, then I have to build a panel first, and fire my ExtendScript from there.
I saw panel sample and there were js, jsx, zxp files.
    And I saw PPro_Panel_QuickStart_ Guide.pdf too.
         QuickStart Guide Says:
              1. Install everything
              You'll need some things.
              2. Configure the environment
Make Premiere Pro load unsigned panels, and generate useful information.
              3. Create JavaScript using browser-based developer tools
Load your panel into your browser, for standard JavaScript debugging.
              4. Create ExtendScript using ExtendScript Toolkit (ESTK)
Rapidly develop usable ExtendScript, in a live scripting environment.
              5. Package and Deploy your panel
How to provide your panel (and any desired collateral files) to users.
Nowhere says how to make panel.
I found PProPanel.jsx and PProPanel.zxp files in same folder, so I thought zxp file was made from jsx file.
Could you tell me how to make panel or zxp file?

  • WVC200 video files

    Hi,
I had set up 2 WVC200 cameras in my site and use the bundle surveillence software too.  However, the video file I recorded for 4 hours, the files would be split to different files (around 15mins each file).  Any limitation for the file format or storage size.  I got another camera (SxOx) with the surveillence software too, but I can record 4 hours video file in only 1 big file for easy management.
    BR,
    Teddy

In the past I have used Freeware programs to join video files without re-encoding. I can't remember the names of any of the programs at the moment, but I know it did work well with very little effort on my part. Since the programs do not re-encode the video, the files can be joined very quickly into one large file. If you decide to try this, please let us know how it works out for you.

  • Convert video files TO flv flash files??

Can anyone tell me if there is a shareware program that converts video files to flv?
FilmRedux (open source version of Visual Hub) or FFmpegX. Alternatively, you can upload to YouTube, let them convert the file, and then download the converted file version.

  • Need help with conversion progrma for MTS video files.  Can't download videos from Sony TX-10 camera

Have new macbook pro 13".  Can't download videos from our Sony TX-10 camera.  I understand I need some kind of conversion program for MTS video files.  Need recommendation for a good conversion program to convert the video files.
    Thanks, chieftd

Well, sigh, that's not going to work.
I love how I can do months of research to choose the best camera for my needs and budget, which is NO easy task these days, but surprisingly find it on the unsupported list when it's a very popular camera.  So, while it seems to support a whole bunch of other AVCHD options from Sony, not the NEX cameras.
The NEX cameras are the latest generation of mirrorless cameras (which, ironically, are great b/c they give dSLR quality still images while actually producing HD video that always records silently and stays in focus b/c it's mirrorless).  The NEX 7 was just reviewed as Camera of the Year.
    Bleh. Oh well. Maybe someday.
And, for anyone reading, Roxio Toast Titanium did convert it just fine but it took about 20 min or my time to set up a handful of clips and then a couple hours to complete converting them for the quality I was looking for.  One was about 10 minutes of a kids' performance on Christmas and it took a long time. It's just not feasible given how many video clips I do with the camera a week - well, feasible when you consider all the cameras where this would be seamless.
Thanks for posting your reply - I appreciate it.

  • What is the best program for splitting large video files (for archiving)?

I have just finished a project and I want to back up everything to DVD-R discs, including all my capture files and completed movies exported from Final Cut. Some of the files are 5 or 6 Gb, too large for one DVD-R disc.
I tried downloading a program called MacHacha, and did a test on one file, splitting it into 3 segments and then joining it back together with the same program. The resulting file should have been a duplicate of the original, but it was not. It was not even recognized by QuickTime Player as a .mov file.
What program do you use for this purpose? What program is reliable for this and produces a joined file that is identical to the original?
    Thank you for your reply.

Thank you for your help and suggestions. I tried a couple of experiments with a video file that has chapter markers. This was created in FCE using the "Export - QuickTime Movie" command.
One experiment was to bring the file into a new, blank sequence in FCE. Then export it right back out as a QuickTime movie. The resulting movie appears to be identical to the original, except that there are no chapter markers any more.
The second experiment was to make a duplicate of the original sequence which I used to make the movie in the first place. In this duplicate, I deleted everything except the chapter markers. I then brought in the video file into that sequence and exported it. The resulting file appears to be identical, and this one does have the chapter markers.
The only problem with doing it that way is that I lose all my edits. What if I wanted to edit something or adjust one of my original edits? I can't go back to that stage, with all my original edits, if I don't have all the original source files.
In addition, it's not clear to me exactly how I would use FCE as the "splitting program." How do you split a sequence into smaller parts?
All I really want to do is take a "snapshot" of the entire project, including all the source files, capture scratch files, etc. I don't need to back up the render files because those can easily be re-rendered. The entire project is taking up about 72 Gb on my hard drive, and I want to offload the whole thing. Even if it takes me 20 DVD-R discs to do it, that's no problem. Someone must have come up with a program or solution to do this.
    Thanks!

  • Splitting video and outputting in 4 files

Hi guys, I'm new to using Final Cut Express and I have v3.5.
I was recently asked to be in charge of the school's video wall and I'm trying to figure out a way to split a video file into 4 videos so that I could play each individual video on the four individual screens (top left, top right, bottom left, and bottom right).
Is it hard to do? The more detail you could spare the better.
I tried to find this in this forum, but some answers were very simple and I'm not quite sure where to start. I'm new to the whole world of video editing.
Thanks for you help and time.
    Patrick

Ah, got it. In that case, you should still create four separate sequences and edit the same clip(s) into each one. You can start by editing in one sequence and copy all the footage to each other one.
You'll then need to take each sequence individually in order to crop and scale the content to work. For example, open the sequence for the top-left screen and double-click the content inside to open it into the viewer. Click the motion tab, and twirl down the crop selection. Change the "right" and "bottom" properties to 50 in order to crop off the right and bottom part of the video. Play with the "center" and "scale" attributes in the same area to fit the video to the canvas. If your canvas is in Image and Wireframe mode you'll be able to drag it around dynamically to fit. Once you've got the first area done, do the same with the other three sequences (adjusting your crop settings to reflect the appropriate area of the video). You'll need to export each sequence separately.
The main problem with this method is that FCE doesn't support custom sequence resolutions, so you'll need to scale your video a lot to fit the canvas. This type of thing is really better done in a program like FCP or After Effects that supports custom resolutions - if you do it in FCE things might be a bit fuzzy because of the scaling. To this end, you should select a sequence to edit in with the smallest frame size of your aspect ratio possible (so you don't need to scale it as much). For example, if you are working in 1920x1080 you should select a sequence of 1280x720 (also 16:9).
Let me know if I need to clarify, as it's a slightly complicated process.

  • Splitting large imported video files

    Hello,
I have a number of old videos that were recorded on an old VHS camera. Thanks to previous help from this forum I can now successfully import them into FCE4
Is it possible to import the whole 3hr VHS tape into FCE4 & then split the large video file into smaller files using FCE4 ? or do I need another program to do this – if so please suggest a suitable program.
    Thanks
    JohnHutchinson

    Helo Tom,
    Thanks for your reply.
Since there are many “episodes” on the three hour VHS tapes I don’t really want to keep stopping the import after each “episode” I’m looking for a quick way to import the video file. I was hoping I could import the full three hours in one go, then break the very large media file into the various “episodes” using either the scrubber bar in FCE4 or something similar in another program. Some of the material on the VHS tapes in not worth keeping, I was hoping to delete the sections no longer required thus saving valuable disc space.

  • FCP video files in trash, trash emptied - any program that can recover them

Look, I know I am going to get nailed for posting this here, but it did happen as a result of FCP, so I was hoping someone would be able to help if they had a similar experience.
A project I completed was put in the trash because it was taking up space. That's normal. I emptied the trash and moved on to the next project, for which I had already digitized some video.
All kinds of files where showing up in my bins as disconnected. So I try to reconnect them and they are gone. Vanished.
I closed FCP and reopened. When I did, it looked liked I was starting from scratch - like I had just installed the program. I had to reopen all projects. A window came up and asked me to reset the scratch disks - to my GREAT surprise, the scratch disk it was looking for was the one for the previously trashed project. In other words, all that footage I had been digitizing had been in an identically-titled file in the folder of the TRASHED PROJECT.
SO - since the source disks have not been available to me for some time I was hoping a FCP user might know of a way to restore items that have been emptied from the trash. Is there such a program or are they, in fact, gone for good? And how did my scratch disk get magically reset? I have not set i since June 2005 when I first set it up.
    Here's to hoping,
    jf

I have a program called FileSalvage that has been able to recover inadvertently deleted files. Not all of them but the critical ones.
The program only recovers supported file types. Verify yours is in the list. If it isn't email them. They created some custom profiles for me when I needed to pull back some PC files that were stored on a Mac formatted network drive.
Recognize, the more you use the computer, the greater the likelihood you may overwrite some segment of a file thereby making it not recoverable. If the repository of the files in question is an external, disconnect it so you will do no further damage until you are ready to begin file recovery operations.
    Good luck.

  • Sync audio with two different video files to create split screen

I want to sync two different video files to a high quality audio file and create a split screen from there in Final Cut Pro X. Help please?

I'm following along at home, Tom, trying to make sense out of your instructions. (Editorially: This kind of operation is among the reasons I thoroughly loathe FCPX.) This would have been easy in FCP7. Perhaps it's actually the same amount of work (you are describing operations in FCPX I have not bothered to try yet—too scared) but it's far more direct the old way: Find sync points for all three files, stack them up in a timeline, nudge till precisely matched, apply effects.
But I'm glad you're here to help us through this stuff!
