Program won't export photos to desktop......
This is more than annoying. I really liked iPhoto 06 better, as I could simply drag & drop from an actual folder on the hard drive to anywhere else on the computer. Now this version changed everything & basic functions are gone. The program is telling me it is unable to create /users/username/desktop/ This is unacceptable, as iPhoto 06 had no trouble doing this at all (not to mention that it won't let me drag & drop anymore). Is there anyone who knows what might be causing this?? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Do you have a v6 library?
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.

IPhoto '11 9.1.5 won't export photos

I recommend doing all your software updates.
You might be able to do all your updates through the Mac App Store or have to do it in combination with "Software Update..." found under the menu. -
IPhoto won't export photos without restarting iPhoto
i'm running snow leopard and the newest update of iPhoto '09. I can export photos just fine, but if I try and export photos a 2nd time, the progress bar from the previous session is still there and I can't choose my export options (nor can I do anything but "cancel") this happens EVERY time since upgrading to 10.6. So if I export photos and want to export a 2nd batch, I have to restart iPhoto. fail.
I have the same problem. In the new Snow Leopard, not only can I not export any photo from iPhoto to any other directory, but I cannot use iPhotos to Set Desktop. Nor can I drag any photo out of my iPhoto folder to another folder.
I also cannot use the Preferences Desktop/Screen Saver feature to load an iPhoto into the Desktop. The iPhotos photos display, but they will not appear in in the little preview window. Only a large question-mark appears. The program allows me to use the Apple-supplied photos, but not the ones in iPhoto. If I attempt to load an iPhoto photo into the box, it deselects the current photo and reverts to the picture of the aurora. -
I was using iPhoto to edit some RAW photos I took today. Several times iPhoto stopped responding, the color wheel just spun until I did a forced quit. After about the third time of this, while I was exporting the edited photos as jpegs. I got a message.... unable to create/user/"myname"/desktop/folder. Now I can not export photos to any location, not my desktop, not an external drive, nada, nowhere. I installed OS 10.5 Friday night. Things seemed to be working OK 'till now. Any advice?

When I try to export photos from iPhoto to my desktop I get the message "unable to create/users/name/desktop" no matter what settings I use in the export window. My intent is not to create a backup but rather to create copies that use the photo's title in iPhoto as the filename instead of the camera's filename that is in the embedded photo info.
What is blocking the export?Well that's why you can't export - iPhoto cannot find the particular file.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

My iPhoto will not export pictures to a folder on my desktop. It goes a the way to the last step (the blue exporting line goes all the way across and then stops. It won't complete the process) How can I fix this?
Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?

This used to be a simple procedure with older versions I have used. It used to be that under the SHARE tab you could export and then specify size and place to export to. This is an important need of mine and I dont see a way to do it in 08.
Can someone please tell me how to resize and export to desktop?
ThanksThe menu you're looking for is the File->Export->File Export menu option. That's where you can resize both the pixel dimension and the compression amount (listed as quality) to the the smaller sizes you're looking for. It was the same menu option in iPhoto 6.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Some programs won't launch from menu/desktop - XFCE
I've recently installed a few programs for my desktop - mainly Anki, and MDM login manager. They installed fine, and as most programs do - produced a menu app for it. But for some odd reason, no matter if I try to access it by the XFCE menu, or even creating a desktop icon for it; the program will not launch. Nothing happens. On the other hand, if I launch the program through the terminal I have no issues. It's more of an annoyance than it is a huge problem, but if anyone could help me fix this I'd really appreciate it.
As a side note, it's not an issue of logging out and back in as this has been an ongoing problem for about a week of logout's/reboot's/shutdown's, etc. I'm not sure what kind of information you would need to help diaognose this, so if I can provide anything else of use, please let me know.For Anki - Both .desktop and terminal command is the same. When trying to launch it with run in terminal, it complains of an untrusted application launcher. I have the choice to launch anyways, or mark as executable. After marking it as executable, the terminal appears for a brief second, then disappears with nothing else.
MDM Launcher - The .desktop is different - pkexec /usr/bin/mdmsetup - where I just type mdmsetup in terminal. When clicking to run in terminal, a polkit authentication pops up in the terminal with sudo and asks for permission to run, and my password. After I type it in, it disappears and nothing launches. If I go into a terminal and choose the same as the the .desktop, the authentication pops up, I repeate the process but this time I get this error: "(mdmsetup:3766): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:" -
Iphoto `11 album won't export to sd card or desktop folder
i have an album created in iphoto '11 that includes digital photos and scanned jpeg files of old photos going back to the 1920s. i would like to put them on an sdhc 4gb memory card and then use this in a digital photo frame. when i try to export, i get the message "unable to export/Volumes/NONAME. i tried to copy the photos using select all and exporting them to a folder on my desktop -- the order and renaming is lost; also, when i try to copy the folder onto the memory card, i get a blocked symbol. i've tried drag and drop and it doesn't work either. i'm very new to iphoto and cannot seem to find simple instructions anywhere on the web. i'm working with mac os x lion. please help!

2 - order is a function of the viewing program - not the exporting program - for example the finder can view files in name order, date created order, date modified order, size order, etc - files have no order - the viewing program determins that
So you can determine what viewing order you are going to use in the viewing program and make the album match that
Often people view in alpha order - so when you export use the sequential numbering option and the alpha sort in the viewing program will match the album order

Exporting photos to camera memory card-drag & drop won't work
Hi! I am trying to export photos from IPhoto08 to the memory card on my digital camera. In iPhoto, there is an icon showing for my camera under "devices" but when I try to drag a photo to the camera icon, nothing happens; it just doesn't recognize that there is a camera there, even though it shows my camera by name and number. help! do you think it's the brand of card I'm trying to use?
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Unless the memory card/camera can mount on the desktop as removable media you won't be able to move files to the card. Depending on the camera you may be able to change the file transfer mode so that the camera does mount on the desktop. Otherwise you'll need to get a card reader which will do the job.

I am trying to export photos from Iphoto to a folder on my desktop and seem to be unable to do this as a big X appears on the bottom of the photo and it says it can not export photo. Any ideas how to solve this problem so that I can download photos from I photo to my desktop?

You can export photos via email, a MobileMe Gallery, Flickr, Facebook, Photo Stream, iWeb, or to a burn folder but not to a folder on your Desktop or a flash drive.
Workaround is to connect the flash drive then drag the photos from your iPhoto library to the flash drive icon on the Desktop. -
How do I export photos back onto a camera SD card? I have created desktop files for the photos and the card, dragged photos to the card, but when I replace card in camera, it says "No valid photo to display". I just need to get some prints made and have been struggling with this for hours. Thank you.

Your camera is not a general purpuose photo display system - it is designed to take photos, let you look at those photos and allow you to download them to your computer or other places - if you wnat to use it view photos then you have to put the photos in exactly the correct place with exactly the correct names or it will not see them
And this has absolutely nothing to do with iPhoto in any way - iPhoto sotres and proecesses yoru photos and allows you to export them - once you export them it is totally out of the picture - you can easily get photo prints by using the iPhoto print service, using an internet print service, burning photos to a DVD and taking them to a print service or putting them on a SD card and taking them to a print service - to view them on your camera you have to exactly reporduce what the camera is looking for - not at all sure what the pirnt even is

I just bought lightroom 5. I had lightroom 3. Now when I export my photos from lightroom 5 and upload them into my photoshop elements program to edit the photo files are at 100% zoom percentage. When I upload photos from my old lightroom 3 program they come into photoshop at 14% zoom percentage which is what I want them to come in at so I can zoom them in to detail the skin. What might have changed settings wise between the 2 programs, I cannot figure it out.

Aperture won't export all photos to Mail
Most of the time, Aperture won't export all my chosen photos to Mail. If I chose 8 photos, it may only export 4 of them and no matter what I do, nothing changes. Tried it on Entourage and it was exactly the same. Size is not the issue, I'm sending them in small sizes and the total attachment is about 1 MB. Anyone had this issue and know what to do? I do have NIK plug ins installed if that helps any.
I would suggest you do a library repair to see if that clears it up.

I'm at a lost of the right approach to use.... All I want is to have a flash on my website that I can load different jpeg (images) in after a 3-5second delay. So when I show the first image it waits for 3 seconds then loads the second image. Keeps go
