Suitable for what type of things in particular? Also, which languages within .Net are you interested in? .Net can cover a wide range of languages.

Adobe Illustrator.  Your company logo should be a vector file.  Image files can be "Placed" in Illustrator.  Artwork created for printing can be drawn in Illustrator and saved as .ai, .eps, and .pdf files which can be imported into your printer's RIP.  But, check with your print vendors and see what they require.  This does not rule-out Photoshop, however Photoshop can be limited.  So, it would be a good idea to have Photoshop and Illustrator loaded in your workstation with Illustrator being the go-to application.

  • Software update for leopard graphics error

I'm trying to do a software update for Leopard Graphics Update 1.0 but after it installs and goes to restart, it says it cannot verify this update and to contact the software manufacturer...any body know what this update is about and why I would get this error?

Try downloading the standalone updater and reapplying the update.

  • Is there virus protection software avaliable for Mac osx intel

is there virus protection software avaliable for Mac osx intel?

Plenty, but none of them really necessary. 10.6.8 has it's own in-built system. Just keep the security updates up to date to cover the latest malware quarantine definitions.

  • Is there a Mac Clean Up or Utilities software suitable for OS 10.3.9?

I've done some searching online for something to help optimize my old iMac that is running 10.3.9. I just want to clean up the hard drive, check if there are viruses, remove spyware, etc. The iMac is not hooked to the internet, but it has been in the past. Right now, I just want to optimize the hard drive. I found an old Norton Utilities 6.0 software, but I don't know if it will work on 10.3.9.
Does anyone know if it does or if there is any other software that can help?

Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation. TechTool Pro 4.5.1 or higher are Intel Mac compatible; Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided. Versions 1.5.1 or later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts had been significantly reduced in Tiger and Leopard.
OS X automatically defrags files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    5. Carbon Copy Cloner (Donationware)
    6. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
    7. Intego Personal Backup (Commercial)
    8. Data Backup (Commercial)
    9. SilverKeeper 2.0 (Freeware)
    10. MimMac (Commercial)
    11. CloneTool Hatchery (Shareware)
    12. Clone X (Commercial)
The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
    1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
    2. Toast
    3. Impression
    4. arRSync
Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.

  • MAC software only for Leopard?! UNFAIR!

I'm sorry, but I find it extremely unfair that the software for the MACs only works with Leopard. I just got my phone today, I was all excited to put music on it because I don't have an iPod. So I download the software and it tells me it's not compatible with my version of OSX which is 10.4.11. So how am I supposed to use the music player?! Anyone else have this unfair problem??

Thanks Sandy, but that still doesn't work. It's the right one for my system, but now it's telling me this: "The device "Nokia 5310 XpressMusic" is currently connected in a USB mode not supported by Nokia Multimedie Transfer for iSync"
Then it says I can choose PC Suite, which I don't have a PC so that's out, or "Nokia" mode on your device. How do I even do that? I've been through the book, that told me to go to the website but that only had stuff about PC!
"PC Suite" mode has nothing to do with PCs (i hate the semantics of this, a mac IS a PC, and not because it can run windows... but because it's a personal computer. i prefer 'mspc' for a microsoft pc, 'msppc' for a microsoft pocketpc, etc. ok, i'm done)
anyways, i see from your next post that you got it straightened out: PC Suite mode is what you must be using, because that connects the PC (your mac running macosx) to an app running on the phone, rather than directly to the storage on that phone.
    -bit
    N95-1 ---> N97-NAM ---> N900 ---> E7-00 + N900 (I use them both)
(N95 was pretty good, N97 had potential but utterly failed to deliver, N900 is absurdly good. Those of you wondering, "should I try N900/Maemo/MeeGo"? The answer is a resounding YES)

  • I am looking for DVD software suitable for Mac Pro.

I just buy an Mac Pro.  I used to Window software and new user on Apple software.  Now, I am learning it.  My 1st question is how to transfer the window version software from my old laptop to the new Apple Mac Pro laptop.
Besides, I also looking for DVD software.  Any suggestion ?

Boot Camp is part of OS X. The data from your old PC can be transferred to the Mac. You may be able to open the old PC files without installing Windows depending on how they were created on the PC. Most files created with Office can be opened with the Apple software; Pages, Numbers and Keynote. I have nothing from Microsoft on my Mac and I am able to open just about everything I am sent from Windows without any problems.
iMovie is an application that allows you to create DVDs of your own movie clips.
In System Preferences > CDs & DVDs you should set When you insert a video DVD to Open DVD Player.

  • Installing Software Updates for Leopard 10.5.5

Hello, I am having difficulty installing software updates on my Macbook.
I get updates each week regarding my software. I click to install the updates, the computer restarts and begins to install the update, and then the screen that shows the installation progress seems to stop at a certain point on the installation status bar and remains like that for hours. When I try to refresh the screen or move around my cursor, the status bar remains the same and it never seems like the installation was completed. I end up forcing a shutdown and then restart the computer.
As a result, I am not sure if the software update is ever completed because everytime I try to update my software, the same things happens. Anyone know why this is happening?

See http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2383 which implies you should download and install the 10.5.6 update; however, I recommend that you copy the Upgrade folder's contents to another folder, rather than putting it into the trash, restart, and then try Software Update again. Note that the Update folder contains installers for previously downloaded updates, which you might want to retain. Once you update everything, you can move everything except the index.plist back into the folder.

  • Software installation for Leopard 10.5

I will probably be getting a couple of Mac Pros and was wondering if anyone has run into problems with installing and/or running Office 2004 or any Adobe products pre CS3.
    Thanks for any info

I have three different Intel iMacs with Office 2004 and have not had any issues with it. Of course, I have not tried every little feature and function possible with all of the Office apps but with Word and Excel and the one Mac that I use Entourage on, I have had no problems.

  • How do I download a previous version of firefox for mac osx 10.5.8 (leopard)?

How do I download a previous version of firefox for mac osx 10.5.8 (leopard)?

Beginning with Firefox 4, Macs must have an Intel x86 processor (which you do NOT have; yours is a PPC Mac) '''''<u>and</u>''''' OSX 10.5 or higher
    *System Requirements: [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/4.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 4]   [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/5.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 5] [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/6.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 6] [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/7.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 7] [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/8.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 8]
'''''The good news''''' is that Firefox 3.6.24 still supports OSX 10.4 and Macs with the PPC Mac architecture. '''''The bad news''''' is that support for the Firefox 3.6.x series is likely to end in the first quarter of 2012.

You can try the third-party product '''''TenFourFox''''' that supports PPC Macs. Firefox 8 version of '''''TenFourFox''''' is available. The product is based on Firefox released versions. All support is provided by the developer, not by this site:

I just got a new I phone and it requires new software for my osx version 10.5.8 but the new software won't intall. It says I need the thing I'm installing to install it?

You need to contact Apple and order and purchase the next Upgrade Disk, Snow Leopard 10.6.3, install that and then update that to 10.6.8.  You didn't give enough information to know if you need to then Upgrade that to Mountain Lion 10.8 in the Mac App Store by purchasing that,  Or even IF your computer is capable of Upgrading to 10.8.
OS X Mountain Lion system requirements
To install Mountain Lion, you need one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space
    Hope this helps

  • Is java suitable for hardware related programming?

in general, is java suitable for hardware related programming?

One small hurdle is that device driver writing often requires very specific machine instructions that are not directly available to any high level language. IN, OUT, LOCK (lock memory bus), VERR (Verify for Reading), RDMSR (Read Model-Specific Registers), move from/to memory without going through the MMU address mapping, ... (those are from x86, there are a few dozen of them.)
In C, you'd write assembler glue. In Java, you'd write assembler glue and call it through JNI.
So if you modify the question: "is Java + JNI suitable", the answer changes a bit. Still, threading and garbage collection are issues: often you can't have anything else happening in the computer when you are talking to a hardware device; it's often timing-dependent and any other parallel bus access migh throw the bus protocol off.
Depends on the hardware, the operating system, and the Java (real-time Java may be required). Be prepared to write the lowest levels of communication in assembly; there is no other language for those bits.
Would you consider controlling Lego Mindstorms hardware related? The low level bits are operating system services in C/C++/assembly, and the high level is Java.
