Programme to slow down voice recordings?   Please?!!!

Hi, and apologies if this has been posted before...I am doing a project for my degree which requires that I record a group discussion. Have purchased the griffin iTalk and an extra lapel mike just in case the quality isn't that great, but what I'm wondering is, is there a programme that will slow down the playback so that I can type up the transcript easier without constantly pausing and catching up? If anyone knows, this will save me huge amounts of time - also the discussion should last around an hour, I presume (hope) my 30G video ipod can cope with this? Thanks alot!!!

I believe Audacity can change playback speed.
Thanks camoracer, is audacity free do you know? Thanks again

  • Slowing Down Voice - Chipmunks to Normal

    Hello again,
I was in the process of doing some editing/compression of the sermon from church today to upload it to our website. About 23 min into the message the voice went from normal to a rapid, chipmunk sounding, voice. I split the track at that point to hopefully slow down that portion to bring it to normal. I'm having trouble. I have the track highlighted purple but can't seem to get it to slow down by sliding different buttons. Will this be possible and where do I begin?
Thanks so much for your assistance.
    Jeff

the only thing i can think of is to export the recording from garageband, load that file into an audio editor, and see if you can change the speed and pitch from there.

other than that, i'm at a loss as to how this could even happen in a single file.

  • Slowing Down Music / Recordings

I am trying to figure out the best way to slow down my ipod collection and also the CD's I have. I am kind of a guitarist and would like to be able to slow down and loop specifc sections of music to figure out how to play them. I know there are some programs available, like riffster (which doesn't seem to support Apple & Amazing Slow Downer, another Win program), but I am loking for an Apple solution. I have a feeling Garageband might be able to do this, but so far, it's beyond my abilities to figure out. Any ideas / recommendations? Thanks!

  • Leopard slows down and freezes - please help

I'm running Leopard on a Macbook and I have had startup problems and slowdowns in general a couple of days now.
When I start up the machine I get the apple logo, the spinning circle and then the blue screen for about 2-3 minutes before I get my Leopard wallpaper. It then takes another 3-4 minutes before the dock and icons load up and usually a couple of minutes before I can actually access the desktop.
The whole startup usually took me less than 2 minutes total and is now as you can see a much longer process.
Once in Leopard applications take much longer to load than usual and often freeze or stop responding. I get the colored spinning disc a lot and it seems like Leopard is using a lot of time loading up even simple apps like iCal and Mail.
I'm not sure but it seems like Finder is the problem. I have tried restarting Finder a couple of times and this always gives me the gray screen telling me to restart Leopard by holding the power button.
I have no idea why this has happened, I haven't installed any big apps or used up a lot of the HD space. I still have approx 85GB on my HD so that shouldn't be the problem.
I have of course tried the basic troubleshooting such as restarting and verifying/repairing disk permissions in Disk Utility so I don't know what else to do.
Any suggestions, tips, or ideas are truly appreciated. I really want my old Mac back, the waiting is driving me nuts.
    Thanks
    Dave

Did Verify report any errors? Did you try starting up from the Leopard installation disk and running Disk Utility from the Installer's Utilities menu, then running Repair Disk?
Verify didn't report any errors so that didn't really help.
I have just popped in my Leopard disk but there doesn't seem to be a menu for "utilities". My options are "Install Mac OS X", "Optional installs" (which doesn't have a Repair Disk option", and "Instructions".
Did your MacBook come with Leopard, or did you install the upgrade over your Tiger system?
The machine came with Tiger so I bought Leopard seperately, formatted the HD and did a clean install. But this was back when Leopard came out and I haven't had any problems with the OS until now.

  • Opening an Indesign file from server slows down [very urgent please]

    Hi All,
I have a book that is already paginated. (Every indesign file has hyperlinks targeted to the another indesign file (paragraph Anchor destinations)).
After few days the server was crashed due to some network problems.
Now a new server has been created with different name and path.
If I try to open the indesign file it takes much much longer time than usual, For the same file if I disconnect the network connection it is working as usual.
What is the cause of this? Is there any way to overcome this issue or any work around? At the same time I need to retain the hyperlinks also. Because it is very very difficult to re-create the links (more than 100 or 200 number of links will be there in every chapter).
Note: I have tried something like trashing indesign preferences. It is also not working.
    Thanks,
    Green4ever

I restored all my indesign file in the same folder structure except the root folder. I already tried the way you suggested. It is not helping me.
"I thought that may be Indesign is searching for the missing links" So I try editing the preferences so that indesign will not search for the missing links(I think it is only aplicable for graphic links is it?). After that also I am facing the same problem.
Is there anyway to open the indesign file without checking for missing hyperlinks. So that it may open faster.
    Thanks,
    Green4ever

  • Slow down tempo of iTunes recordings in order to transcribe

I transcribe iTunes interview recordings, but I don't type as fast as my interviewees speak. So I need to slow down the recordings. At the Apple store, the consultant said to use the metronome, but I tried that and it doesn't work. On a brand new MacPro at the store, however it worked for him. Is this something new in GarageBand '11 or is there a trick to making it work in GarageBand '09? My software is up to date.

  • How do you slow down Siri's voice speed?

How do you slow down Siri's voice speed?

Hi. On my IPhone 4S, press the home button, General, Accessibility and then Speak Selection.

  • Slow down text to speech voice

I am using text to speech on Captivate 4.  Essentially, I love the text-to-speech feature; however, sometimes the voice is just too fast.  I do not want to add pointless punctuation because I use the same text for the Closed Captioning.  Does anyone know how to slow down the voice (Paul) so people actually can follow what he is saying.
    Thanks !!

Adobe implemented VTML in Captivate 4, which is a mark up language for Text to Speech.
It looks something like this (The color added for emphasis):
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet \pause, consectetur \speed=30 adipisicing elit \speed=50 \pause, sed do eiusmod tempor \speed=30 incididunt \pitch=20 ut
The \pause, creates a half second pause and and a \pause. creates a full second pause
The \speed= changes the speed for all the text that comes after the tag in that segment.  In this case I took it down to 30 and then brought it back up to 50 before the pause and then down again at the end.
Thte \pitch= changes the pitch of the speech.  I made it very deep at the end.
Here's a more in depth explanation of some of these tage, taken from the Adobe Captivate blog:
The following commands allow the quality of the output voice to be  controlled by modifying its rhythm, intonation, volume and timbre. The  output speech is modified from the word following the command, up until  the end of the prompt.
Speed Control: Allows the speaking rate to be modified, expressed in an abstract scale 0-100.
    \speed=<num>
    Example:
    \speed=60 (Scale 0-100)
\speed=60 This text is read at a faster speed.
Pitch Control: allows the fundamental frequency (tone or pitch) to be modified, expressed in an abstract scale 0-100
    \pitch=<num>
    Example:
    \pitch=60 (Scale 0-100)
\pitch=60 This text is read at a 60Hz frequency rating.
Volume Control: allows the volume (loudness) to be modified, expressed in an abstract scale 0-100 or in decibels (dB).
    \volume=<num>
    Example:
    \volume=60 (Scale 0-100)
\volume=60 This text will be read at a 60 decibel rating.
Timbre Control: allows the voice timbre to be modified by a shift in frequency, expressed in an abstract scale 0-100.
    \timbre =<num>
    Example:
    \timbre=60 (Scale 0-100)
\timbre=60 This text is read at a timbre value of 60.
If you haven't installed the improved voice to text voices, get them off of the "Extras" folder on the Captivate install CD or download them here:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=captivate
Look for the install links for windows and mac below the trial link.

  • My Hard Drive Won't Slow Down! please help

    Hi everyone,
I just got my B&W powermac up and running again after some upgrades: a radeon 7000, 500 Mhz Sonnet G4, 1gig of RAM... Well all of a sudden my hard drive just spun all the way up and will not slow down no matter what. I went to system preferences and checked "put discs to sleep when possible" - Nothing. I ran Onyx and cleared all my caches and what not - Nothing. I have restarted, reset my PRAM, pressed the CUDA button... I'm out of ideas. And my hard drive is raging like it is booting up or something so I don't know what to think. Please help me slow my hard drive down. It is a WD Caviar 40G, and I am running OS 10.3.9 and it is totally up to date. Thanks so much for any suggestions!
    -Kurt

I don't think it's a ribbon issue. I checked it out. As for the jumpers, I'm not really sure exactly what to look for. I have only messed with jumpers one time and I was following a chart to set up a slave drive on a Dell and it was a long time ago... On My B&W, what exactly would I looking for if it was a jumper problem?
    Thanks again, in advance!

  • Please help: avast 6 pro slows down teststand

I installed avast 6 Pro recently and found it slowed down my teststand program. It used to take around 2.5 minutes to finish the whole test sequence. After the installation of this antivirus software, it took 4.5 minutes to finish. Has anyone used avast to protect his/her test stations and found the same slow-down issue? Have you had a solution to this? Do you have any settings to avast that can solve this issue? Please help. Thanks a lot.

  • HT1750 My iMac slowed down, then word and PowerPoint wouldn't work, then I tried to switch users and shut it down with the button on the left back and now the whole screen is white and it is frozen and dead. Please help!

iMac slowed down, PowerPoint and word wouldn't work, I tried to switch users then shut it down and now it is frozen with a white screen. Help please!

From the way you are describing it, it sounds like the HD has failed. Please look over Gray screen appears during startup for troubleshooting steps. You can also run Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode, it may take 2-3 passes for any error codes to appear and each pass takes approximately 30-60 minutes. However either way you should plan on taking it into an Apple Store or AASP for service.

  • IPad 2 has slowed down copy paste is not working it hangs when filling in user name , please do something to solve all these problems ,Apple please wake up

IiPad 2 has slowed down with ios8 copy paste is not working it hangs when you try to fill up forms ,Apple engineers you need to do something fast

Apple engineers do not participate here. Have you updated to iOS 8.1 which was just release yesterday? Have you done any other troubleshooting? If you haven't start here.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History and Website Data
Now close all apps. In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If those three things made no difference, try this. Reset all settings. You will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.
If all of that fails, restore the iOS software. Backup your iPad before you restore, then restore the backup when you are done. If that still doesn't help, restore your iPad as new and start all over again. Most purchased content can be downloaded again at no charge as long as you use the same Apple ID and as long as the content is still available in the store.

  • When i try to burn my iMovie to a dvd it does not play correctly. It gets stuck or slows down at parts...please any tips, ideas or help? Thanks

When I create my movie on iMovie it plays great. Then I try to burn it to a dvd and it doesn't play well on the dvd. It either gets stuck at parts or slows down or skips a little. I try to save it to my theatre and burn it that way. Or I have added it to my documents and burned it that way. Either way worked. Any tips, ideas, help or solutions would be very much appreciated. This is driving me crazy and i am wasting so many dvds! Thanks!

Ok then tell me this what is that DVD your having problem watching then? And what Region Code are you from like Euro is Region 2 and so on??? Could be the Region problem on the DVD doesn't match your drive Region as well?

  • Extremely slow DSL speeds. Up speed higher than Down speed. Please help.

    I just purchased the 1.1 - 3.0Mbps hi-speed DSL package.
Verizon speed test shows .17Mbps down and .536Mbps up. This is obviously curious for two reasons: 1) the incredibly slow down speed, and 2) the down speed being slower than the up speed.
    Curiously, speedtest.net shows different results:
    2.45Mbps down, .55Mbps up
What could this mean? Transceiver data follows.
    Transceiver Revision 3.3.6.10.0.1
    Vendor ID Code 4D54
    Line Mode ADSL_G.dmt
    Data Path FAST
    DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec)
    Down Stream Path 3360
    Up Stream Path 864
    Margin (dB)
    Down Stream Path 27.1
    Up Stream Path 16.0
    Line Attenuation (dB)
    Down Stream Path 20.1
    Up Stream Path 8.0
    Transmit Power (dBm)
    Down Stream Path 6.8
    Up Stream Path 11.9
Thanks in advance for any advice/ assistance you can offer. This is extremely frustrating.

OK. It seems as though you're suffering from what some people call "Juniperitus." If you're on a Remote DSLAM that uses Alcatel Litespan equipment (Litespan 2000 for example) along with being connected to a Juniper Networks ERX edge router, there tends to be an incompatibility between the two pieces of equipment that causes TCP connections and pretty much any other form of transfer to see artificial packet loss, which results in transmission. This results in inefficiency in every transfer, so what you're seeing is simply a result of all of this. In the past when Verizon first installed Litespan, they were using older Redback Networks edge routers, which did not create such problems. I'm on a Litespan and happen to still be on a Redback in my area (one of remaining ones still in operation in my area) and I get my max line speed with no issue. It's unfortunate that these actually perform better despite the Junipers being far better edge routers in terms of capacity.
I know someone who should be able to get this fixed for you. I'll send you a Private Message.
