Programmed playlists in iTunes

Hello,
I run Mavericks and am looking for an app to play iTunes playlists at a pre-programmeded times. For example, I wake my iMac at 5:25 am and wish to start playlist(s) at 5:30 am. In the past, I used iCalendar, but that had problems. Then I found an app called iTunes Alarm, which was better, but it was written in 2010 and it has some stability issues on Mavericks.
Ideally, I would like to find something where I could easily shift the times that the playlists start. For example, I would start the first playlist at 5:30 am, but that wasn't always a good time, especially if I had a late night. Therefore, before my Mac shutdown each night, I'd like to quickly be able to shift the playlists start times. For example, if I had three playlists set to start at 5:30 am, 6:00 am and 6:30 am, and I wanted the first to start at 7:30 am one morning, then they would play at 7:30 am, 8:00 am and 8:30 am. Basically, the playlists would be defined as:
Playlist 1 : Start time + 0
Playlist 2 : Start time + 30 minutes (or whatever value you wanted to have)
Playlist 3 : Start time + 60 minutes (or whatever value you wanted to have)
etc.
Then, whenever you wanted to change the start time, you would enter a Start time value and save and the app would use that start time and offset values until they were changed.
Anyone know of an app that would provide this flexibility? Would be interested in freeware, shareware or a professional app if one exists.
Thanks & Regards,
Lance

Thanks for the info!
Another question: I have an .itl file from 9/06 in a folder called "Previous iTunes Libraries". This file I assume would contain most of my lost playlists.
If I do another CD backup - which I think will collect just new additions to my library since 9/06 - can I then delete the current .itl (which would leave me with an incomplete library but one which would include the old playlists), followed by an import from backup CD of the newer, missing tunes?
Thanks!

  • Importing playlists to iTunes, programming question....

I'm writing a foreign language utility that works in conjunction with iTunes. What i want to do is to be able to create a playlist within iTunes semi-programmatically.
My first attempt was to import an m3u file. Unfortunately, I can't get foreign character set names to work. If the title contains foreign characters, it doesn't get imported. I tried using a UTF-8 file, and also URL encoding the title, but neither worked.
I then thought of mimicing the iTunes export to text file format. But I don't have access to the dozen or so fields, all I want to create is a list of file names. I tried making a similar file but just with names, but iTunes doesn't want to recognize it.
    Anybody got any ideas?

    Use COM on Windows:

    try this...
This is how I managed to fix the problem...and I hope this helps others in the similar situation.
I tried with another program..latest version of Nero, and this was also stopping at the 'initialising' stage. I was now lost! I thought the last resort is to give Evesham (My PC manufacturer) a buzz. They were very helpfull. Basically go into 'Control Panel', 'System', and click on the Hardware tab, then 'Device Manager'. Uninstall everything in the DVD/CDRom Drives. Then uninstall everything under the catagory IDE ATA/Atapi disk controllers. This is where my problem was, as I only had one IDE channel here. You should have 4 or 5! Reboot your machine, and everything will automatically re-load. I tried burning using Nero and it worked. Then the big test was iTunes. It worked 1st time!
I asked why the IDE channels have dissappearred, and he said sometimes uninstalling Programmes occasionally removes them.
I hope this will help others who are having problems to burn stuff on iTunes.

  • Update playlists in itunes from ipod

Does anyone know how to update playlists in itunes from an ipod nano? I have been updating my ipod playlists (i.e. removing unwanted songs, duplicate songs, etc) but now I don't know how to copy these modified playlists back onto itunes. I have read about Yamipod and other programs, but I don't want to copy the actual files back onto my computer, just the playlists! Any suggestions?

"I have been updating my ipod playlists (i.e. removing unwanted songs, duplicate songs, etc) but now I don't know how to copy these modified playlists back onto itunes."
You must have been doing this through iTunes and with the iPod set to manual transfer since there is no way to modify playlist in the manner you describe directly on the iPod.
You cannot transfer any playlist info back to iTunes from the iPod without using something such as Yamipod.
Or you will have to modify the playlists manually in iTunes to match those on the iPod.

  • Converting WinAmp (M3U) Playlists Into iTunes (XML) Playlists

Hi. I was wondering if someone could help me out with suggestions on converting my old WinAmp (.m3u) playlists into usable iTunes (.xml) playlists?
I have Windows XP Pro (with the latest Windows updates), and a brand new iPod 160 Gig Classic.
I have used WinAmp as my media player for the longest time. The reason that I haven't created playlists in iTunes is because:
It took me years to customize these Winamp playlists exactly how I want them (you know how that is).
iTunes is a huge program that tends to takes up too many system resources on my PC. I have an older PC, and don't have the time or money to invest in a new system, copy files, set it up, etc.
iTunes somehow modifies an mp3 whenever it is played in iTunes ( I can see that it has been modified in the "Date Modified" column, where my mp3 files are located).
Historically - up until the last year or so, iTunes has not had too much of a problem faithfully importing my Winamp playlists into iTunes (to be transferred onto my iPod).
So, I just got off the phone with Apple Technical Support, Tier 2.  I told him that I had the latest version of iTunes (version 10), installed yesterday.
I successfully imported my 90 Gigs of mp3's into the  iTunes "Music Library" without a problem.
The problem arose today when I tried to import one of my WinAmp (.m3u) playlists into iTunes, so that I could copy the playlist over onto my iPod. I've done this dozens of times. I've already tried uninstalling and then reinstalling iTunes.
Like I said, I really want to keep these playlists it took a long time to customize the occurrence and frequency of favorite mp3's into those playlists.
The technician said that the latest release of iTunes won't work with Winamp (m3u) playlists.  I asked him if he thought it would work again if I downloaded an older version of iTunes. He said that with the new iPod Classic that I have, it will not work with older versions of iTunes (I have no idea why), so that's out. He suggested Googling an "m3u to xml file converter."
I checked on Google and saw a lot of programs that will convert xml files to m3u file format (for reasons unknown to me), but I haven't had any luck online finding a file converter that will faithfully convert my WinAmp (.m3u) playlists TO iTunes (.xml) playlists to use instead, and make iTunes run smoother. Any suggestions?*
    * Keep in mind that I'd really prefer to convert my m3u playlists, rather than create all new iTunes playlists from scratch.
    Thanks.

Tried the plug-in with Apple Technical Support. This WinAmp plug-in unfortunately does absolutely nothing.
I went back an read some of the comments and it sounds like it only works with older versions of WinAmp.
    Try this http://www.topdownloads.net/software/m3u-to-xml-xspf-converter_2_39472.html
    or this python script http://users.musicbrainz.org/~matt/xspf/m3u2xspf
    or http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Audio/Audio-Convertors/M3UtoXSPF.shtml
Not sure this one will work since it is looking like the latest iTunes no longer supports m3u file sbut worth a try see http://www.burroak.on.ca/m3u2itunes.html

  • Itunes match has removed my playlists from itunes and my iphone. Not only that, many of the songs 'matched' on itunes do not show up on my iphone. Seriously annoyed, wish I'd never paid for it

Please read the title; itunes match has removed my playlists on itunes and iphone and the songs that are supposedly 'matched' on itunes are not showing up on my iphone.
    Any Really annoyed about this

iTunes Match does not have the ability to remove local files.
The service operates by comparing the selected iTunes Library with the iTunes Store content and 'matching' or 'uploading' - it is very straightforward a 'match' provides equivalent access to iTunes Store content as a recognised 'purchase'; upload simply copies a 256k AAC variant into the cloud.  There are no elements of this activity that can erase the local library content.
Would suggest you explore possible alternative causes of file loss.  Given the pattern described of selective deletion, leaving many Songs intact - would suggest making at least 2 secure offline Song file backups and starting the library again from a fresh install of iTunes once a thorough sweep of the system has been completed for virus.  It is also worth assessing the physical security of the system - who has access & with what privileges.
To access Songs from the cloud, you would have to manually delete the Song from the library or open an empty library - so even when accessing content, iTunes Match provides no local deletion capability.

    Hello ryane84
The easiest and most efficient way to copy your music is to follow the steps under the External drive section. Make sure that you have organized the iTunes library first before you copy it over. Then put the copied iTunes folder in the same Music folder on your computer.

  • What is the difference between formats when exporting playlists in iTunes?

The available options are plain or unicode text, XML, M3U and M3U8 when exporting a playlist. Is there a difference in "functionality" of a particular format or is it merely a matter of compatibility with a particular platform or software? In particular I am trying to figure out if a playlist from iTunes would be able to be read and "processed" on a flash drive plugged into a late model car stereo which has a USB port.
    MacBook 4,1    (13-inch Early 2008)
    OSX 10.6.8
    iTunes 11.3.1 (2)

.m3u8 should be the same as .m3u but with slightly different handling of Unicode characters that fall outside of the standard set of ASCII symbols. iTunes can import and export all three formats but .m3u is probably the one your car stereo will be looking for. iTunes will export a playlist with absolute file paths for each track however for your purpose what you probably need is all of the tracks placed in the root of the drive and to edit the .m3u file to exclude all but the filename so that a relative link from the same folder as the .m3u identifies the file.
I wrote a Windows only script for this task a while back, as discussed here: Re: Copying playlist to USB ?

Help! I've deleted my voice memos playlist on iTunes. How do I transfer my voice memos on my iPhone to iTunes for a second time?

You need to have the latest version of iTunes on the computer, version 11.1.3 to be able to handle syncing a newer phone with iOS 7. The iTunes on the iPhone has nothing to do with syncing and is installed by the iOS.
Go to iTunes on the computer, click on Help, Check for updates to update iTunes on the computer, or go to to www.apple.com/itunes/download and download and install the latest version of iTunes to correct your problem.

my playlists in itunes that contained voice memos are now blank on my phone, yet they are still on the playlist in itues on my computer. any ideas
i like to record concerts i go to a listen to them and the voice memos are how i record them

If you still have the 'pointers' to them in iTunes then I think that it assumes that you still have them on your computer so it won't re-download them or let you copy them from your iPod - try deleting the iTunes entry for one of them and then re-try re-downloading or, with your iPod connected, File > Transfer Purchases. If it works for that one then do the same for the others.

If they were songs you purchased from itunes, try redownloading them from your purchases...
if that doednt work, make sure the optuon to copy files to itunes media folder is checked in settings, then find and download from the net. and re-add them to your library
