Programming error in iTunes 7.1

Today when I tried to updates my iTunes software to the newest version, 7.1, I kept on getting an error message while it was copying new files during the installation process. This error message read:
The cabinet file "QuickTime.cab" required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.
I have tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it, but I stil get this error message during the installation process. If you are having this same problem or know how to correct it, please reply to this post.
HP Media Center f1905   Windows XP

I have tried that already, as well, and it did not work. However, the error message now tells me that the cabinet file "iTunes.cab" (rather than "QuickTime.cab" as it did before) required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, and error from reading the CD-ROM, or a problem with the package.

  • Help - iTunes V4.8 'Program Error' at end of install.

Please can anyone help with this CD installation failure of itunes only (without ipod connected):
The installation of quicktime seems ok then iTunes, but on completion a window opens stating 'Program error, iTunes will close.. an error log was created'. No associated error number is displayed and I can't find the error log. At the same time the folder System32 opens. The Installation wizard says everything worked ok but if I then run iTunes the same 'program error..' window appears.
    Thanks in advance.

    hi BB!
hmmmm. that's an unusual sort of error message.
let's first try taking any CD-drive complications out of the loop. download and save to your hard drive a fresh copy of the itunes installer from the apple website. (we'll run the install from there rather than on-line.)
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
try switching off all background applications prior to the install too (if possible, disconnect from the internet first):
    http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108377
do you still get the same error then?
    keep us posted.

  • Error while writing to file: C: \ Program Files (x86) \ iTunes \ iTunes.Resources \ el.Iproj \ iTunesExtrasDownload.png. Make sure you have access to this directory.

When i try to install iTunes in my Windows 7, this error message apear "Error while writing to file: C: \ Program Files (x86) \ iTunes \ iTunes.Resources \ el.Iproj \ iTunesExtrasDownload.png. Make sure you have access to this directory." Someone help me!!

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Apple's advice on this issue can now be found here: TS5376: iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See the user tip Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy for a suggested strategy.
If you have difficulty downloading the iTunes setup file try clearing your browser's cache or using an alternate browser.

I have a Runtime Error. Program C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\itunes.exe. An application has made an attempt to load C Runtime Library incorrectly. I have robooted and even attempted to uninstall iTunes but neither has worked.  When I attempt to uninstall I get a message saying that a program is being installed so I must wait. My OS is Windows 7. How do I fix this?

    Hello Richard,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with installing the latest iTunes update.  I recommend following the steps below:
    Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
I understand that you have already uninstalled iTunes, but when you get to this step, it is important to uninstall iTunes and the related components in the order listed in the link for that step.
