Programs crashing after 10.4.7 update!
I did the latest software update to my G4 yesterday (10.4.7, itunes, etc) and ever since I can't open any of my programs such as iphoto, microsoft office, firefox, toast, etc. When I try to open them, they crash immediately. I've tried resetting the PRAM, repairing permissions, re-updating 10.4.7, updating to the combo, rebooting several times, nothing works! The only program that works is Safari, and even with that the computer keeps switching to the Finder every minute or so. Can someone please help??!!!
Thanks,
Alia

Various programs crash after upgrade to 10.6.4
Various programs crash after upgrade to 10.6.4 but only late in the day / evening. There seem to be no crashes early in the day.
After a reboot the problem is fixed and things seem to work OK.
Might this be some kind of memory-related issues?? Programs not releasing memory until eventually there's nothing left?
I'm a Windows guy until recently so am not up to speed with Mac software / hardware yet.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.Hi, I am facing major instability in MS Office for Mac 2008 after the 10.6.4 upgrade. Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), just crash randomly. Mostly when opening existing Office documents but there is no fixed pattern.
Tried Office auto update but no joy.
Any suggestions

My iPhoto keeps crashing after installing the latest update, can't do anything!
My iPhoto keeps crashing after installing the latest update, can't do anything! It used to crash when importing but now I'm at the point where I open the software and after 2 seconds it crashes (nothing connected either). What to do? Can't access any photos
Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you can create a new library and import some test photos then the problem lies with your original library.
If that's the case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If iPhoto crashes while trying to create a new library then try this:
Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that fails to help a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/ folder,
Then install iPhoto from the disk it came on originally and apply all relavant updaters.
P.S. If you're still running Tiger, 10.4.6, then the above may not apply. If you're running a newer system you should update your profile so we have a better idea of where you're at.

Crashing after 9.1.1 Update
iphoto has crashed on me twice since 9.1.1 update. Hadn't experienced any issues with it before 9.1.1 update ( well , apart from being a bit slow when moving between images after edit, but no crashes). Both times crashed after adjusting Canon raw images, which wasn't a problem before update. Using 2010 core i5 iMac.
Anyone else experiencing crashes after 9.1.1 update ?After not having any issues at first.. my 9.1.1 iphoto is now crashing after 10-15 seconds when starting up. From the crash log I can see its the face detection thread thats dying.. I'd be happy to disable it to be able to access my library again.. but can't find anything online on how to do that.
I tried using library manager.. to create a new library.. which worked fine at first.. until it presumable got to the same photo/face detection place and now that crashes just the same as before the whole rebuild exercise..
I can't see from crash log which file its processing.. any ideas how I could tell that ? Adding files one by one is not an option ( there are many thousands ) -
Most programs crash after latest update..
I just ran Software Update. It had all of the iApps, Quicktime, and the latest Security Update in it.
Then I rebooted. Next I installed the latest Xcode.
Once that finished I proceeded to run my regular apps, Mail, Adium, etc.
Mail starts, but after some amount of time (10 or 20 seconds) crashes displaying crash reporter.
Adium will run until you double-click a contact to open a message window.
So, not much else will run. Camino's fine, Opera seems Ok. But Safari crashes after a few seconds. I even went and manually downloaded the latest Security Update installer, and even it crashes!
Disk Utility seems to work fine, thankfully. I ran Verify Disk (it's Ok) and Repair Permissions (it fixed a couple of minor directory permissions) and I'm still SOL.
I'm an ex Windows guy, had the Mini just about a year now - so I'm pretty clueless on what to do next. Any help much appreciated!!!
Thanks,
Stevehi steve
at this point since this is a system wide issue you may want to consider archiving and installing your operating system. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120. this helps in a lot of cases like this. remember to repair disk beforehand, and do software updates. however, do not do the last update which created the problem. may get everything back to normal. good luck. -
Programs crashing after security update 2014-002
I installed the latest security update for Mavericks today and since then I've had two programs crash repeatedly.
In iTunes, when I click on "Add to Library," iTunes shuts down.
In Photoshop Elements 12, when I try to save a photo, the program shuts down.
Has anyone else had similar problems? I can't think of anything else that would be causing this, as it hasn't happened before.
Note: I have a late 2013 Macbook Pro with Retina.Bump. I'm having a similar issue.
Since installing the latest Mavericks security update, my Retina MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2013) has crashed and restarted a minimum of once per day for no apparent reason. -
Programs crash after 10.4.9/10.4.10 update...
I have an Intel MacPro 2.66GHz machine with 2 gigs of ram. Since installing the 10.4.9 update (and also skipping over 10.4.9 and installing the 10.4.10 combo updater)...
1. QuarkXPress 6 and 7 crash when I trying to pull down the "Window" menu.
2. Entourage 2004 crashes when composing an email and I try to select a font from the font popup menu in the new email composition window.
3. Photoshop CS2 crashes on startup.
4. FlightCheck 6 crashes on startup.
5. AdiumX (chat program) crashes when I try to access the "Status" menu either in the menubar or in the buddy list window.
Temporarily disabling a majority of the fonts installed have allowed some of the above problems to go away. However #1, #2, and #5 still occur. EVERYTHING was running just fine prior to the 10.4.9 update.
I have tried reinstalling said apps, repairing permissions, running disk diagnotic apps like DiskWarrior, removing font caches files with FontNuke, removing program preference files/folders, and these problems are still happening. Can someone clue me in as to what has happened?
BTW, these same problems have also occurred on a totally separate Intel machine. I also have several PowerPC machines that are comparably configured that were updated to 10.4.9/10.4.10 and are NOT exhibiting the above problems.Hi Carolyn,
I found the answer. Several months before installing to the 10.4.9/10.4.10 updates, I had removed the AquaKanaRegular and AquaKanaBold fonts from the /System/Library/Fonts folder. This because old information I had said these two fonts were not necessary.
However, on page 74 of the November 2007 Macworld magazine, the article shows that those two fonts are indeed necessary.
Once I restored those two fonts to their rightful place, my apps have stopped crashing. Yayyy.
Thanks,

8.2 DSC : Program Crash After 24 Hours on 'Read Traces.vi'
Hello,
I am chasing a problem in a LabVIEW 8.2 project. The project uses DSC and on a trending screen, I use the 'read traces' VI to read traces from the Citadel database to display on trends.
After about 24 hours of running, the program crashes with "Error 1025". The dialog box reads: "Error 1025 occurred at Tag \\My computer\UPP Tags\Hy-6022_Actual: Open VI Reference in CTL_hdProxyManager.vi->HIST_ReadNumericTraceCORE.vi->HIST_ReadNumericTraces.vi:2->ReadTraces(Numeric).vi:1->!Dash Reactor.vi"
Under "Possible Reason(s):" there is a lot of text, starting with "LabVIEW: Application Reference is Invalid"
I don't seem to be reading an inappropriately large amount of data (in the last occurrence of the error, there were only about 750 data points per trace displayed on the graph, representing about 1 hour of data. The program is running with no operator interaction during this time. The application is updating the graph and therefore running the "read traces" VI about once every 4 seconds. I have 175 shared variables. The PC is a very new, fast one . Let me know what other data you might need.
I attached the main VI (there are a lot of support VI's too, but at least you can see the general idea), along with BMPs of the location of the error on the block digram and the error dialog box.

4G iPod touch KEEPS CRASHING AFTER 6.1.3 UPDATE
Okay, so I live in an area with rural internet. Because of this I have only just downloaded the 6.1.3 iOS update this week for my 4G iPod touch. I have only just discovered how bad an idea that was.
Safari crashes every half-minute, the iPod is now INCREDIBLY slow, Twitter, YouTube and almost every app I have keeps crashing after a minute or so...
I have gone over all the 'fixes' that google has presented to me.
Clearing the multitasking bar doesn't change jack and I can't roll back my iPod to the backup on iTunes because I just got a new computer. And the first thing I did was move all my music over and SYNC THE IPOD AFTER IT HAD BEEN UPDATED.
So what am I supposed to do? My iPod is USELESS to me now as an internet-capable device OR music player, and no matter where I look the only help anyone can offer is "Apple doesn't support downgrading"???
So Apple updates the OS with a faulty patch and I have to deal with the failure?
Is there anyone who can actually HELP me? What do I do? Jailbreak the **** thing? I've never jailbroken anything before, but surely it can't render my iPod any more useless than it already is! It's not like the thing is covered under warranty anymore! (Really convinient, that...)
Can some please help me get my iPod WORKING again?! I paid $300 dollars for a music player with internet access, not a paperweight!
Either way, I'm officially done with Apple devices after this nonsense. I hear Galaxy Tabs actually work! Imagine!Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Photoshop CS2 crashes after Colormunki (X-Rite) update 1.1.1
I have resolved this issue through the x-rite tech support (who called me back within 4 hours) but since I posted it on a different thread I wanted to share my experience.
I am using cs2 with snow leopard (10.6.1) on a mac book pro 2,2 and immeditately after updating to colormunki photo 1.1.1, cs2 began crashing after "save as" and not saving with "too many windows open" messages. It was also not able to save to preferences even if no image was opened. Right after installing the update, I received a message that cs2 would have to be reinstalled, but I wasn't been able to get that message back. I did actually reinstall cs2, but the problem persisted. X-rite tech support told me to repair permissions and the problem has gone away.CS2 is not supported in 10.6.x If you had it running at some point you were lucky. Keep in mind you are running in Rosetta since CS2 is not Intel native. Do yourself a favor and get CS4

LabVIEW program crashes after running for few hours
Hello,
I am doing some experiments at the moment which are supposed to last for 18 hours.
Basically, I use a LabVIEW program to control a power supply through a LabJack U6 DAQ. I am currently using LabVIEW 8.5 on Windows 7.
In order to do that, I use a laptop where everything has been disabled such as power management settings, network access is off, windows updates are also off...
As far as I know, the computer can't turn into sleep mode or just shut down (I'm a 100% sure of that actually).
But last night, I started an 18 hours experiment at 5 pm, and when I came in this morning, the program shutted down by itself. Fortunately, the power supply is still providing the voltage I want, but I can't figure out why the program crashes.
When I start the experiment, it also automatically starting saving data in a spreadsheet file (I guess the size of the file should be 36 MB), so it might be a problem of memory access or something.
I really don't know what could have cause this crash, does someone have an idea?
I saw some other threads similar to my problem but I am not running an executable, I am running the front panel directly from the editing mode.Hi,
thank all of you for your quick answers!
@Josborne : I do not have an error handling in my program. Actually you can look at my program in the attachment file. This is my first LabVIEW program so I've never dealt with error in and error out function... Moreover, what is a log file exactly?
@Johnsold : Yes, I am building an array continously growing over time. Actually, my program stops saving data when you hit the "STOP" button, it doesn't write into a spreadsheet file through a period of time, that is something I eventually need to correct.
@LabJackSupport : I can try to reduce my time step, so far it's 100 ms. I have a problem with disconnecting the USB cable from the computer though : for no reason, if I just unplug the connection between the LabJack U6 and the computer, my power supply will just go providing 157 Volts! And for my experiment, this is something we don't want to have so we just leave it as it is now. Disabling some part of the program is a good idea, I can try it
Thank you for your answers

Safari slow-launch, crashing after 3.2.1 update
After installing the new update (3.2.1) for Safari yesterday, the application has difficulty launching. The icon bounces in the dock for a long period of time (sometimes 2 minutes) before the application finally opens or crashes or I force-quit. I have repaired permissions, restarted, moved/deleted the history.plist and the historyindex.plist
I'm running on a Macbook, OS X.5.5. I do not have any third-party hacks/add-ons, and I do not have a wireless mouse or keyboard.
Here is the crash report:

There's much more to the report than this; this is all that would fit. If there's something specific I should include, tell me and I'll add it. Also, the optical drive tries to eject each time I force-quit Safari.
Any help would be AMAZING. Thanks in advance! Why has Apple done absolutely nothing to correct the Safari crashing/hanging problem? I have always loved my Mac computers. We have 3 in my home now, but if they continue to do nothing to resolve this problem, I may jump ship. If they are release something so lousy, they might as well work for Dell instead of ruining Apple's good name.
I--we shouldn't have to keep deleting files and such weeks after they release such shoddy software. Their is a reason we mac addicts pay more for Mac products. We think they are superior to other computers, but they are going to quickly go the way of the U.S car makers if this continues.
I'm sure this will be deleted immediately. Shouldn't they be focusing on correcting the software problems, rather than silencing those who complain, and having the buyer of their product putting bandaids on their browser? -
Adobe Flash crashes after 9/7/14 update.
I updated Adobe Flash a few days ago (9/7 if I'm correct) and since that time Adobe Flash frequently stops operating and crashes constantly in Firefox (about 15 times according to my crash report function) -- showing a dialogue screen that says it has stopped operating and querying if I want to continue using the plug in or stop it.
(I specifically have Flash set on manual download to figure these kinds of things out because the last time something like this happened after an Adobe update the audio shut off on Youtube -- and it was an Adobe problem.)
The Firefox forum has a long thread on this current problem.. trying to figure out if it's Firefox -- .but I suspect it may be Adobe (as it was in the Youtube case.) May I recommend that Adobe install a "feedback" site for crashes after updates so that you can find these faster -- if indeed they are Adobe issues? The Youtube problem took almost two weeks to fix and I think it was because you didn't know.
Thanks.. If you have another answer that would be great -- in the mean time I'll keep using Chrome until I get an answer...
p.s. I have already disabled protect mode and hardware acceleration in Firefox to see if that helps. It doesn't.Thank you Jeromie -- I will update...
Here are four most recent crash reports -- with oldest first -- There are about 15 of them and it takes about a minute to get each of them -- I don't have time to retrieve and copy all of them right now...if you want more let me know and I'll do them this evening. p.s. why does the report say 'bp' automatically after I've retrieved it? Just curious...

Crash After 10.4.4 update
Seems that after the last software update I keep getting crashes in from my ATI Card. Here is the log from the ATI Monitory.crash.log. Can anyone help. My system does not hard crash but the monitor hangs. I think it is just the graphics card driver crashing but do not know how to fix it.
Help?

Do you have an I-Mac or do you have tower and utilize an Apple monitor or a different brand of monitor?
Second, please look at your display preferences, if this is an external monitor, and tell me what your refresh rates are? Do they look wierd, such as 59.9 and so on?
I had some horrible issues with my external monitor, I use a G4 Powerbook.
I happen to agree with you that it is a driver issue, this was how I fixed mine after 10.4.3.
Before you delve into fixing the driver you need to do a few other things. Go ahead and repair permissions and also verify the drive. Let me know what you find. IF you need help, I can help with the above also.

All programs crashing after re-installing OS X
Hi all,
I've recently made the jump over to Mac form Windows and invested in a new 17' Macbook Pro. Sadly today someone decided to play a little trick on me and convinced me to run the Sudo FM command in Terminal and I lost my OS.
After re-installing OS X i'm now having problems with my programs. I've reinstalled the Apps disc but every program i Launch seems to crash after a few seconds (i'm yet to find a program that doesn't crash).
I have a time machine that has backups, but i presume that's not saving any program data, just my personal files, so i guess thats not going to help. Can anyone suggest how I can get around this?
Many thanks. How did you reinstall? I'm guessing that something wasn't done properly... maybe you installed on top of remnants of the old OS (IIRC, even "sudo rm" can't remove files that are in use) and something is screwed up because of that.
Time Machine certainly is capable of backing up the entire hard drive, including system files, apps, etc., and does so by default. If you have an up-to-date Time Machine backup, and you hadn't excluded anything from the backup, you can restore from that. To do that, see item #14 on the [Time Machine FAQ|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1964018].

IOS 6.1.3 iPhone 5 - screen resolution expands beyond screen limit?
