Programs not loading

When I click on my programs in my dock sometimes they won't load. They'll bounce and bounce and bounce and then stop, with no black arrow below them and no program open. I'll open them up in the finder and try opening them that way but they still won't open. This happens after the powerbook has been running for a while. I restart and then everything works fine (which, by the way, the 'shutdown' and 'restart' option under the apple menu don't cut it, I have to use the power button to shut it down). But while using Safari after a while it'll freeze while loading a page and that's when the issues seem to start. I've had numerous programs freeze on me like this: Word, MSN Messenger, iChat, Safari. I would be thankful for any suggestions or tips. Thanks!

Hi Dana,
When my PB has acted like that, repairing the directory using Disk Utility has brought it back to normal.
Boot to your install/restore disk: insert disk, restart and hold down "C" key at the chime. When the Installer window appears, go to the menu at upper left and select Disk Utility. In the DU window, select your HD volume at left, and click Repair Disk. When it finishes, if it says "disk appears to be OK" then run it again to make sure, especially if it repaired anything. Run it until you get two "appears OK" reports in a row. If it can't repair everything, you can try a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior.
Every time you do a hard shutdown using the power button, you likely mess up your directory a little more. Needing to do a hard shutdown is a signal to repair the disk. After the repair it's worthwhile to reboot normally and use the DU on your HD to repair permissions. Here's the Apple document on directory repair. Hope this works for you.

    Help! I am very novice at best with techy stuff so I will try to explain this the best that I can. I've had a lenovo N500 Laptop running Vista Home Edition for a couple years now. It did not come with any recover cd's or anything like that. It was starting to run slow, so I figured I'd do the old trusty Factory Restore and start fresh, always did the trick on other computers I owned with windows. Well I went through the whole process of restoring it, and did the initial system setup and naming. When it loaded my desktop for the first time it was all downhill from there. There is no IE installed, no default programs would open, instead I got this error message (example when opening Windows Mail).
    C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe
    The specified path does not exsist.
    Check the patch, and then try again.
    It does this for every program. Here's the thing the only C:\ Drive that shows up is assigned to removable disk. Here are the current labels for my default Drives.

    So I think the issues possibly that when it was reformatted it labeled the drive a different letter, so it's trying to pull the files from the C drive as a path,. but it needs to be q or s or d or something. Keep in mind this is my very novice theory.

    for wireless issue:
    have you checked device managemer for unknown/non-installed devices? you may need to install drivers for your adapters.
    try to press f8 when you see lenovo logo, then load "safe mode with networking", check if the adapters work.
    can you tell us what error you got when you tried to install win7? also, some of applications doesn't come with preloaded systems so you need to install them later ( as windows mail, msn messenger )

    I have developed Z smartform by copying from standard form and tried to call from standard program only but here I am not able to call my Z smartform and I am able to call only Z SAPSCRIPT from this standard program.
    I have done all the necessary changes in NACE transaction but then also only when I keep the script name its working fine but when I replace this by smartform name the driver program is not calling smartform .!! why?
    Please do let me know why is it like this?

    Hi,
    PO driver program is written to support only SAPSCRIPT. So if you want to assign smartform in NACE, you should take a Zcopy of the driver program SAPFM06P with its include FM06PE02 as ZFM06PE02. And give the zprogram against the driver program field in NACE.
    Then you need to replace the entry_nue subroutine in ZFM06PE02 with the below code.

  • Abc iview programs not loading on ipad

    I am having a lot of trouble with ABC iview on the ipad3. The app opens, seems to work fine but when I try to watch something nothing will load, just the ABC logo spinning. I have done everything suggested by the ABC, including hard and soft restarts and reinstalled the app three times. All similar apps for streaming video work fine, including Foxtel Go and BBC iplayer. iview works fine on my macbook air through Chrome. Strangely my partner's ipad runs iview fine and we have exactly the same software (up to date). A lot of people are having this problem according to the abc message boards - any ideas, anyone? very frustrating.

    Originally this problem was seen as a Flash problem only for Linux/Apple users, since is seen as wider.
    Then found that Google Chromium worked fine.
    Then found Firefox with ABC News24 not having same problem.
    Then stehsegler ® did some digging around with Chrome... looks like the issue is a 403 - Forbidden response from Akamai. This being looked into.

    Are you receiving an error when attempting to load Measurement and Automation Explorer?  Does the splash screen show up?  What Operating System are you using?

    Note that the dev machine is x64 Win7.
    I have not tried deploying this to staging since the issue started as I'm a bit nervous of touching the staging/live environment until this is solved.
    Removing the PlatformTarget element from the project file has no effect
    Removing the msshrtmi.dll file from the bin directory of the website project ends up with

    I have used Git to revert to the last working build to no effect (But I don't have the obj/bin folders in GIT), but it has atleast reset the project files etc.
    If I return msshrtmi.dll to the bin folder and switch the model and website projects to x64 there is no change
    If I switch both to x86 then I get an error Could not load file or assembly 'BekoModel2011' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.
    which is the model project - presumably because to run on my x64 machine I need the 64bit version?
    I really need to be able to debug and then publish some changes ASAP.

    Is it true that you're using IIS to host the application? Could you check whether the process is x64 or x86 one via task manager or config in IIS manager?

    Ah yes school boy error there out of frustration and discontent..
    My issue is with music/apps/films etc not downloading from iTunes / App Store.
    They initially fail and message is displayed stating unable to download / purchase at this time, yet if I retry it says I've already purchased (?) or alternatively I go to the purchased section and there they are waiting with the cloud symbol..
    However some items get frozen in the download window and cannot be retried or deleted. Message appears stating to tap to retry, but even if you stole every bath and sink in the uk you'd still not have enough taps.
    I post here as the iTunes guys are useless in there 'help' and have only advised posting here or phoning apple, at my expense, to explain a problem that could be rectified by forwarding my original email to a techie. However the tech team apparently don't have an email address as they're from ye olde Middle Ages..!
    Anyways I digress.
    So I tried sync to pc, but instead of showing the file as ready to listen/use/view, the iCloud symbol shows and I'm back to square one as the item is unable to download..
    At frustration station waiting for a train from pain...
    All my software is up to date, and had all worked fine prior to the last big iOS update that resulted in all the changes in display and dismay.

    If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.
    If that doesn't work:
    •  Log out of your iTunes store account.  Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
    • Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
    • After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

  • Have just reinstalled PE12. Trying to access Editor - asks for ADOBE ID which I enter but program does not load.

    Had problems with having the serial number acknowledged by the Photoshop Elements 12 (Organiser worked fine but Editor wouldn't open).
    Chat support suggested I delete and reinstall program from an Adobe website download link.  Have done that and now have slightly different problem.
    Organiser still works fine but Editor asks for ADOBE ID which I enter but editor program does not load.
    ADOBE website clearly confirms the product is registered against my ID.
    Chat support now saying that they no longer provide support for PE12 Editor - only 13!
    This is in direct conflict with the support advertised in the product's "Getting Started" brochure.
    Only purchased PE 12 a couple of months ago (just prior to PE13 release) - find that this is pretty poor service.

    Thank you for your advice, but this is way too involved for me. Please forgive me, but I do not feel comfortable doing this on my own. I really need a live chat or phone help!
    I just uninstalled PSE 12 through control panel and yet in Windows Explorer I see it listed under the Program Files (x86)/Adobe. Photoshop Elements 8.0 is also in that directory. I have been trying to uninstall PSE 8 but keep getting error 1316. To further complicate the situation when I tried to reinstall PSE 12 yesterday I got a message that I needed to create a new folder. So I have Program Files (x86)/Elements 12 Organizer now even though I just uninstalled PSE 12.
    I am so confused and frustrated! I have wasted 3 days trying to resolve this. PSE 12 was working great until a few days ago. I do have a backup of my catalog on an external hard drive. I just need to talk to someone on the phone or a live chat.

    Not sure of an answer to your basic question, but it may be that you can run a repair (on Windows --> Control Panel>Programs & Features and run the repair on Acrobat). If that fixes the issue, at least temporarily, at least you will not be reinstalling everything -- a real pain.
    Next, open Acrobat and go to the Help to run the updates and be sure you are current. On some OSs, the updates are critical.

  • PSE 6- Error: Could not load style because of a program error.

    I have PSE 6 on Vista. My program has always run fine until a few days ago when it started up a small white window pops up with a red X that says Could not load the styles because of a program error. I hit ok and the box keeps coming back. I can't do anyint in PSE and I have to end task to close out of the program. How do I fix this.

    Delete MediaDatabase.db3 file from location C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\Locale\en_US and launch elements again.
    This would rebuild the layer styles and all.

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • PSE 6 "Could not load the styles b/c of a program error

    This is an error that evolved from the "This styles file is bad or corrupt.
    Found a folder accidentally downloaded into Styles area and removed it, checked every other file in there, all good, rebooted.  Now PSE has a new error "Could not load the styles because of a program error."  Any more help?

    Yeah, it's the bit I deleted but wanted to find the reference before posting.
    Navigate to the MediaDatabase.db3 file and rename it...add a ~to the front of the filename or name it something like  MediaDatabase.db3.TMP. It will take several minutes to rebuild...may take 5 - 10 minutes so be patient.

    Hi The Lad,
    If you have "INSUFFICIENT" disk space, then you can try and change the install location while performing the installation of the desired product. I am not sure when the error message would pop up saying that the disk space is "INEFFICIENT". Could you please share a screen shot of the error message along with the system information.
