  • FCP & other programs not opening when plug in Firewire

    Hello,
First, please forgive the double posting - but I just didn't think that I had made myself very clear lastnight, and I wanted to rectify that.
The problem is, that whenever I plug my camera/deck into my G5 with my firewire, no program will open, including Final Cut. I tried Repairing Permissions, and shutting down and unplugging everything, then powering back up again. Then, I turn on the camera and try opening any program, even Disk Utility, and it will not open (giving me the spinning beach ball) until I turn the camera off. This is making things very difficult, especially since I have projects in Final Cut, that I need to Print to Video, view on my tv monitor, or do anything at all.
I might add that this has indeed worked before, and after some 'futzing' w/it, it would work, but I had been 'futzing' for over 2 hrs., and have lost way too much time. In addition, in order to Log and Capture, I've been 'daisy chaining', using my Dazzle, as well as the camera w/the tv, but, it does not work the other way around, when trying to export -- thanks very much!

In response to: "Has the dazzle and the camera ever been connected to the computer at the same time?" and, "Have they both been turned on while both connected at the same time"?
No, they cannot be connected at the same time - I only have 2 firewire ports, one is for the Lacie external drive, the other is for either the Dazzle or Firewire. I unpluged the Dazzle to make way for the Firewire lastnight, because I wanted to Print to Video, and could not, because no program would open up, w/the Firewire plugged in.
I will try resetting the PMU, thanks. Not sure how the camera could be the suspect, as it used to work just fine, and it's less than 2 yrs. old, but will take into consideration.
"(You have taken any hard drive out of the chain while you are troubleshooting - right?)" When I shut everything down lastnight, I unplugged everything, including the Lacie, then plugged everything back in, is that what you mean? Thanks Studio X.

  • Why are my programs not opening when I click on them?

I click on a program and it will not open.   The icon bounces but I can't open.    When I right click on it it gives me the option to force quit.    I tried going into settings but same thing - bouncy bouncy

you need to open a force quit window by clicking on the black apple in the top left corner of the screen and quit out of all applications
then shutdown your mac and do SMC reset, the following article tells how to do this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
after doing this reset restart your mac and try to open your apps and the issue should be resolved.

  • Program not opening in right space

I have had a specific program assigned to open in space 2. It used to work fine, but suddenly it doesn't work quit right anymore. If start the program directly, it will just open in whatever space is open. But if I start it by opening a document from the program, it opens in space 2. I tried with other program, and it works fine for them, they open in the space assigned to them. But it just doesn't work for that specific program. Odd. I tried to remove it from spaces and adding it again, with no luck. Any ideas?

If you have two programs on Mac OS which are able to open a filetype,
an arcane set of rules apply about which one wins. It is pretty
unpredicable, and may take into account order of installation, which
one is newer, which one wrote the files, and other things. So there's
no guarantee that reinstalling would change things.
You might find that starting the program you require, and quitting the
    other, sometimes helps.
I think you were just lucky that it previously worked as expected to
such an extent you were able to rely upon it.

  • Many programs not opening after 10.4.9

Only on my desktop dual processor after the 10.4.9 upgrade my Adobe photoshop and Corel painter and Appleworks will not open, my epson scanner will not open. There are others I haven't discovered. IPhoto opens and also Preview. On my ibook I haven't noticed any problem.
Power Mac G4 dual   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Probably a good idea to reinstall, using the combo update.

  • Help with programs not opening!

    I have a Lenovo Ideapad Miix 10.
Worked fine until recently.  Now when I try to open something like Word or Excel, they don't open.  Instead, it takes me to the desktop and does nothing.  When I go to "troubleshoot compatibility", I have the option to test the program, allow access to change the computer (or whatever its asking for..) but it still does nothing.  When I click no and select that the problem is not fixed, the troubleshooter lists incompatible program as being detected.
This is really inconvenient, and I am still getting comfortable with the windows tablet so dont exactly know my way around yet.  anyone able to help out? thanks in advance!

You are posting in the "icloud on my mac" forum, but your profile mentions Windows.  If using a mac, you need to have iphoto or aperture installed in order to receive new photos via photo stream.  If using windows, try posting in the iCloud on a PC forum.  You'll get better help there.

  • Programs not opening after install

Alright... I am brand new to Linux operating systems (about roughly 2 days now, and making the switch from MS to Arch). after scouring the forums and the wiki I still can't open up the packages that I installed from the AUR,core, community, or extra repo's... I have tried opening up a terminal session and typing in the program name, but that didn't work, I have gone into the /bin folder and still nothing there either... where/how could I open the files that I installed on my system? If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated..Thanks

  • Random programs not opening?

    Hi all -
It seems oddly in the span of a week that three un-releated programs suddenly don't open period. I am on an iMac that I bought brand new back in May and everything ran fine up until now. Strangely, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Microsoft Office 2004 suite (I only use Word, though) and Adobe After Effects 5 don't open. They will bounce once in the menu bar, but nothing else loads (doesn't even load quickly and crash, just bounces one and done). They all worked flawless before for the first 8 weeks that I've had this... Hasn't seem to afflicated any other apps I use (including Adobe PS CS3 and the full Apple Studio Pro 1 suite). I've tested disk utility options and ran this "Onyx" program, deleted preferences, un-installed and re-installed everything... nothing works?
Anyone with a solution would be very helpful, thanks.

My recommendation is to copy your Home folder to the HDD.  Then open Accounts preferences, Click on the lock icon and authenticate, then CTRL- or RIGHT-click on your account and select Advanced Options from the contextual menu.  You should see a field labeled, "Home directory" with a Choose button on the right side.  Click the Choose button, locate the Home folder on the HDD, select it and click on the Open button.  Click on the OK button of the Advanced Options window.  Immediately restart the computer.
This points OS X to the Home folder located on the HDD.  Leave the Home folder on the SSD as is.  If you have your data already installed there, then delete it from the various folders within the Home folder in order to regain the storage space.
Oh, you can also copy your Applications folder to the HDD, then create an alias to it that you will put on the SSD in place of the Applications folder on the SSD.  Rename the alias to "Applications."

  • Default Programs not opening..

When i try and download a program from the internet or an attachment from an e-mail, it says that an error has occured and that here is no program on my computer that will open it. I know that i have the programs (word, powerpoint etc.)...please help? i'm in the middle of school and no one here can help me, i really don't have time to send it in!
    Thanks

    > "seek support"...is this related?
Hard to say but I don't think so, you need to call Apple and tell them that hardware test result though it probably means a component/motherboard replacement.
I think that error is Temperature sensor related, has it been overheating ?
Have you applied the SMC and Firmware updates yet ?

  • Apple programs not opening

iChat won't open. The computer thinks that is open, but it isnt and I have to force quit it. The same problem happened with iTunes, but other programs in the iLife set have been working fine. Please help!

It could be as simple as using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them.
Otherwise, the link littleshoulders helpfully provided is the way to go.
    Cheers!
    DALE

  • Mail OS wont open, it just says "program not answering"

I just intalled the latest update, and now when i click to open mail OS, i wont open the program, i just gives the message "Program not answerin" when i right click on the mail icon.

    I USED THIS PROCESS :
    Get Pacifist.
    Download Safari 5.1.7 for Lion.
    Quit Safari if running.
Install Safari 5.1.7 using Pacifist. Select "Open Package", choose the 5.1.7 dmg from step 2. Click on the "Contents of Safari5.1.7LionManual.pkg", then click "Install" on the toolbar. Choose "Yes" or "Replace" when asked, and wait for it to finish.
Disable the frameworks that were installed by Safari 6 (by renaming them). You will be prompted for your administrator password.$ cd /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks $ sudo mv SafariServices.framework SafariServices.framework.disabled
    Disable additional Safari 6 frameworks (optional, but recommended):$ cd /System/Library/StagedFrameworks/Safari $ sudo mv SafariServices.framework SafariServices.framework.disabled $ sudo mv WebInspector.framework WebInspector.framework.disabled
    Launch Safari.
If it doesn't work, you can re-install Safari 6 from Software Update.

  • Saved Tiffs will not open in CS2 and generate a "Could not complete your request because of a program error".

this was supplied by Ann Shelbourne.
Saved Tiffs will not open in CS2 and generate a "Could not complete your request because of a program error".
These files will often open in Photoshop 7.0.1 or in CS1 but not in CS2.
The trouble may be caused by bad dates in the EXIF data and can originate from an incorrectly-programmed digital camera; or from a scan that was created after after Jan1 of this year (because of a known bug in some scanner software).
If someone runs into the "Could not complete your request because of a program error" problem, and does not have CS1, try opening the Tiff in TextEdit.
The EXIF data is right at the top. Check the EXIF data for bad creation dates and change any incorrect ones there.
Save and close; and then the file will probably open in CS2 without a murmur.

I get the error if I open a file from within iPhoto using "OPen in external editor" and then alter it (or do not alter it) and try to save it over itself, or save it anywhere else.
I get the error if I do "Show file" in iPhoto to see the file in the Finder. Then, if I double-click and it opens in PS, and then alter it (or do not alter it) and try to save it over itself, or save it anywhere else.
    > And with »save it anywhere« You indicate that You use the Save As-command?
    Right.

i think i might have a solution... i have windows vista and after i installed to latest itunes update everytime i tried to open it it would freeze. I tried everything, including uninstalling itunes and all of its components and reinstalled it numerous times. So i went to the itunes folder in my folders, not on itunes, and i deleted my itunes library and playlists. After that it worked just fine, all of my music was deleted but luckily i had my files saved elsewhere.
I hope this helped! I know its frustrating and APPLE/ITUNES NEED TO FIX THE PROBLEM!!!!

  • TS1717 Started a software update this morning which didn't work.  Now Itunes will not open at all.  I get the following message."The program can't state becasue MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer."

There are a couple of options that I know of to fix the issue.
One is listed in this thread - https://discussions.apple.com/message/24606478#24606478 - and involves uninstalling iTunes and related components and then re-installing iTunes.  You will need to read the instructions in the thread to see the correct uninstall order.
Second option is use System Restore to set your system back to a date prior to the iTunes update.  I did this before finding the thread mentioned above.
Not sure exactly what the problem is but I know, after a search, that MSVCR80.dll was indeed already installed on my computer.
