Programs not responding after BIOS update

I have an HP Envy 15 Touch Smart notebook, less than 6 months old, running Windows 8.1.   Since automatically updating the BIOS (per HP Support Assistant recommendation) a week ago, performance has collasped.  Machine boots up OK, but then programs either fail to start, or go into endless wait mode.    Response lag may be 20 minutes or more for any command.    Can anyone help me understand what is going on?   Many thanks in anticipation.

There are two possible erros on a computer, hardware or software.
with these issues you're having the software part if it's a softwre issue, is windows in general.
To test if it's software related, I'd suggest either using the microsoft system recovery to try and take the computer back to a date before these errors started occuring.
If you wnt to test for hardware issues instead, you can when you power on your computer, press the F2 key multiple times.
You will then go to hardware diagnostics where you can test the various components of your computer.
My first suggestions would be the harddrive/harddisk and the memory test.
Run the extensive tests and see if they fail.
If they fail you know it's hardware related, if they pass, it's software related and you'll have to try the reinstall of windows.

why my iphone are not responding after i update the latest ios? and the screen displaying itunes icon

You are in Recovery Mode. Follow the instructions below to recover your iPad.
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
    5. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad. Data will be lost.

  • All programs not responding after update & restart

After installing security update 2008-005 version 1.0, itunes version 7.7.1, ilife support version 8.3 none of my programs will open. Some of the icons will bounce up and down and never do anything and some of them just don't react at all when I attempt to open them. Now we're just getting the pinwheel of death then a solid blue screen. Why would this happen after an update install?

Perhaps you should try using Disk Utility to Repair Permissions, then reboot. And if that doesn't help, I would install the 10.5.4 Combo Update again, Repair Permissions, then reboot and try again.

  • Lenovo G780 not working after BIOS update

First of all I want to say that I am extremely disappointed with the experience I had with my Lenovo. After I bought it I found out that Lenovo, for some reason, disabled the Turbo Boost option of the CPU. I tried to fix it by entering the BIOS but the options there were limited, so I decided to update the BIOS. I downloaded the BIOS update for 64-bit windows(i am running windows 8 which is compatible with the said update utillity). I ran the .exe and followed all the instructions (did not shut-down restart or anything my computer). After installing it automatically restarted and a Lenovo logo prompted on the screen followed by ">>Start PXE over IPv6, Press [ESC] to EXIT..." after that "EFI Network 0 for IPv6(numbers and letters) boot failed". Then ">>Start PXE over IPv4" which failed and a blue box poped saying
"Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed. Insert Recovery Media and Hit any ket then select boot manager to choose a new boot device or to boot recovery media". Pressed ok and got me to Boot Manager screen. Boot option Menu had only EFI Network 0 for IPv6 and EFI Network 0 for IPv4". What should I do?
Note that I tried to start up both with and without the ethernet cable in.

    Hi.
I also (stupidly) updated to this new BIOS version and ran into the problems you described. I did what Lenovo recommended but nothing worked. But this how I solved my problem:
Enter the BIOS by pressing F2 just after booting up the computer.
When inside BIOS go to Boot and chang the following settings: Boot Mode [Legacy Support] AND Boot Priority [Legacy first].
Save and Exit and your computer should start.
Whence inside check if windows is activitated and check if the new BIOS is registered.
PS: I have scandivian G780 with an i3. Pls responds if this helps

  • Satellite Pro L100 does not run after BIOS update

Ok the machine is a Toshiba Satellite Pro L100 PSLA4. Problem occurred during a BIOS update from the official Toshiba website. I downloaded the zip file, extracted it and activated the .exe file inside.
The window opened by the .exe was a BIOS flashing program, the .exe also simultaneously wrote a new BIOS file to a temporary folder.
When tried to use the program all I got was an error saying that it couldn't find the new BIOS to input.
I tried again only to get the same error. I then left the laptop for several minutes and when I returned, I found a blank unresponsive laptop.
By unresponsive I mean an obvious lack of BIOS functions i.e. power LED's not changing when plugging in of unplugging from the mains and the fact that I had to pull the battery out to turn the machine off. When the machine is turned on now all it does is check the drives and restarts (no display, no beeps)
    What do I do?
The first thing that came to mind was to reset the BIOS.
One problem, I can't find the RTC battery or a jumper switch.

I have at least found out why this happened, the program obtained from Toshiba automatically 'attempts' to upgrade the BIOS upon activation. This means that the program engaged with errors without my authorisation. I don't find this very impressive from a company as large and powerful as Toshiba.
Also it may be possible to fix myself if the BIOS installation instructions made sense, extracting the .zip file does not create three sub folders and pressing the F12 key does not start the laptop.

  • ThinkVantage Toolbox does not run after BIOS update

Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update Tool on my T410 ThinkPad (2518EWG) offered me download and installation of ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility US version 1.28-1.11.
Since then,  whenever I try to run Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox I receive a message: „This version of Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox is not licensed to run on this system“.
I notice that the ThinkVantage Toolbox still shows the old BIOS No. 6IET49WW (1.09), while the updated BIOS is 6IET68WW (1.28).
Any comprehensible instruction how to solve the problem for a computer layman will be much appreciated. Thanks - Jan

  • Program not Responding after installing PSE8

    I recently upgraded to PSE8.
Since then I have noticed that when I go to shutdown my system (XP w/ SP3) I get
a window indicating a program is not responding. The title of the window is
'End Program - 9c0'. The '9c0' part is not always the same.
Last night it was 960. I've checked before the shutdown to see if there is any application
or process with a number like that and I have never found one.
I believe I keep my system free of viruses, etc. but I did do a complete virus scan
with Avast as well as Symantec. Plus spyware checks by AdAware and SpyBot.
I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed anything like this?

I have the same problem.  I'm running XP SP/3, and after I installed PhotoShopElements my machine hangs at shutdown until I kill a running process.  The problem goes away if I stop ElementsOrganizerSynchAgent.exe.  So for now, my solution is to set the service to start manually.
Any chance of getting a fix?  The program I assume performs a needed function, and I'm now without it.

  • Satellite Pro L300 will not boot after Bios update

    Help please.
I have just formated a Satellite Pro L300 laptop.
I used all the updated drivers from Toshiba and all went very well.
I then updated the bios with the latest version.
After doing this the laptop will not boot but just keeps scrolling through the start menu and no matter what option I choose it just keeps doing the same thing.
    Any ides welcome

    Hi
I used the Microsoft installation disk but just keep getting to the same stage until the blue screen appears. I have tried different installation disks and also changed the hard drives as well. I can do everything in bios, change boot device enable or disable devices but that is it. I have tried a few times to instal windows but it just stops at the same point saying windows is stopping instal to protect the system. I fear the bios update has done some permanent damage as I cant get past the dreaded blue screen. Thanks anyway

  • Hp g62 doesn't respond after bios update

after buying this laptop brand new, i installed windows and drivers, and after all was settled i went to do the bios update, using the recommended tools on the hp page. as millions times before, i followed the instructions, the update process completed itself, and the laptop went to shut down / reset. however, nothing happened, and the power led and the wireless led were on, the fan was working, but the screen was blank.
i tried to turn it on again, and every time i turn it on the fan starts to work really loud for 15 seconds. during that time i can turn of the laptop just by pressing the power button. during these 15 seconds the wireless LED is orange (off). after that, the fan calms down to normal levels, and the wireless LED is blue (on). when this happens i can only turn off the laptop by holding the power button.
i tried the hard reset, and it didn't help. what else can i do? it's a brand new laptop, but i don't know will the warranty work in this scenario? those are HP tools i used, from their site and they caused this

Disconnect all peripherals from the laptop. (external drives, mice or other devices)
Remove AC power, remove the main battery, locate and then remove the RTC coin cell battery for 15 minutes. RTC battery is located in the memory module bay on this model, L shaped cover with 2 screws, you will need to remove the main battery before removing this cover.
Put the coin cell back in and connect AC power only, see if it will post the HP screen, if it does Immediately use F10 to enter the bios and set the date and time, save changes on exit.
If it does not start, power it back down, hold all 4 arrow keys down and power it up while holding keys for 2~3 seconds after power up, let up on the keys and wait (2~3 minutes) to see if the bios recovers. If you get the HP post screen, enter the bios and set the date and time before booting into windows.

    hi sathish291
    Welcome to the Forums.
    Can you try the following:
    1. Power down the machine, remove the AC adapter and battery.
    2. Hold the power button for 30secs and reconnect the AC adapter only then turn the computer ON.
If the machine still doesn't power up normally and boot into WIndows then it's likely that something went wrong (could be a bad BIOS flash or an internal component might have gone defective during or after the BIOS update). In this case, you may need to contact lenovo on how to go about getting the unit serviced.

  • Lenovo w510 will not boot after BIOS update

    Hi,
This morning I used the windows bios update utility to update my Lenovo w510 type 4318. Everything appeared to have been successful until the machine rebooted. It froze on the lenovo splash screen with text saying to press the blue think vantage button for more options.
I waited a good 30 minutes to make sure it wasn't processing anything before trying again. When frozen pressing the power button cause system to beep two times Pause and beep three more times.
Called Lenovo support and was told since out of warranty (2/12) the onlyI option is for paid mail in repair at quoted maximum of $575. Needless to say I was very dissatisfied - and made this clear to support who informed there was no way to escalate and no other options.
Does anyone have any other options or ability to escalate this case and keep a Lenovo customer. really disappointed

sometimes it is safer to do the bios update outside of windows environment.
NEVER use the .EXE method for a BIOS update.  Always use the .ISO and the CD/DVD boot method.  Never update after the warranty expires.

  • Computer will not boot after bios update

This afternoon I recieved an urgent BIOS update in much the same format as I have received updates from HP for years. It was accompanied with some other non urgent update.
So I gave  the permissions to make the update.
I recieved a notice that the update had been successfully completed and the computer said it was restarting.
The problem is that it never woke up...
After several minutes I manualy restarted the computer.
As the boot began I heard three beeps, and then nothing but a black screen.
I shut down and restarted after several minutes but this time no beeps just black screen.
I figured that somthing must have corrupted the BIOS
I began researching what the three beeps mean.  Appearently three different sets of BOIS were used in this model.  Different BIOS have different beeps.
Well I sure never  thought I would need to write down what BOIS I have...
In my research I have see referances to holding down certain F keys  for different BIOS options as I start the computer
If I hold down an F key when I hit the start button the computer emediately shuts off
How can I get to the BIOS to reset or roll back the update?  What next?

The box is on the way...
In addition the the methods outlined in the article The Hp tech  had me try to start tapping the F 10 key.
    Nothing worked...
Hp is sending me a box to return the computer to a repair facility.
Thank you for your  timely assistance,
    Sparks

  • Help!! Muse is not responding after recent update.

Muse application is not responding...I tried to uninstall and install again...still same. Please help!!!
    Thanks

    Zak,
Our IT specialist did tell me that he checked the website and it is available on Webroot's whitelist (as of the end of last week).  He doesn't think that the virus/thread update has reached our network at this time.  He manually cleared MuseOobeCall.exe and Muse.exe on our side, uninstalled and reinstalled Muse on my machine, and everything works great now.  He thinks that we are not running on their latest virus/thread info.  I hope that this helps.  I wish that I could provide more details, but I don't have access to any of this information.
