Programs Quit Since Memory Upgrade

I recently upgraded my iMac G5 1.8GHz memory. I formerly had 1GB and 256MB modules; I removed the 256 and added a second 1GB module (this is the max allowed for this computer). Performance seems improved, but it does seem that some of my programs (iTunes, Real Player, Firefox, Lightroom) periodically quit without warning. Is there any reason my memory upgrade could be the cause of this?
Thanks.

I've heard two things about my memory question. One technical guy has told me you know immediately when you install bad memory, suggesting things would not work as well as they currently do if it was the module. But someone else has said that Lightroom is "adept" at detecting bad memory - I believe indicating that if there's a problem with the module, Lightroom's reaction to it would be an indication it was bad. I'm really not sure which person to believe on this. Any thoughts?
It would be nice if this were true but unfortunately it's not always that easy. Faulty RAM can sometimes cause intermittent problems that are difficult to diagnose. Dennis has a good suggestion in reseating the RAM. Another thing you can try is the AHT again but this time run the Extended test in a Loop overnight as it may not fail the first time you run it. It may take a few runs before an error is detected. Or just flat out remove the newly added RAM and test it with the original dimms.

  • Why won't my Quickverse program open since I upgraded to OS X version 10.9.2?

I upgraded to OS X verison and now my Quickverse program will not open

I contacted the Software vendor.  It was not compatible.  They gave me an upgrade at a discounted price.  Thanks for the help.

  • None of my iWork programs work since I upgraded to 10.8.2.  As soon as I try to open it the program crashes.

    Any suggestions?

And to thoroughly remove all iWork application related items, you will need a script created by Yvan Koenig, a contributing Apple Support Community member.
Download and run the compressed script [uninstall iWork ‘09.zip ]. It will likely land in your Downloads folder. Double-click it to uncompress it into a folder of the same name. Then run the script of the same name from within that folder.
Now, reinstall iWork '09 applications either from a retail DVD, or via the Apple AppStore. Then upgrade the applications through Software Update/App Store.

  • My firefox is no longer asking me to save and quit (since I upgraded to the newest version). This is annoying and I'm * I have to restore my sessions. That is what I HATE about Safari. I want my prompt back. What do I Do ?

I'm running Snow Leopard on an iMac
    ''(Edited for language - TonyE)''

Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"
If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''browser.tabs.warnOnClose''', if its value is set to '''false''', double-click on it to change its value to '''true'''
    # Repeat this for these 3 preferences '''browser.warnOnQuit''', '''browser.warnOnRestart''' and '''browser.showQuitWarning'''
If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
    # Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
    # Go to the General panel
    # Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • Why do i have to keep Force quitting applications ever since i upgraded to Mountain lion. It is very annoying when applications cannot be existed normally

Why do i have to keep Force quitting applications ever since i upgraded to Mountain lion. It is very annoying when applications cannot be existed normally.

Does your system meet these Mountain Lion System Requirements?:
    General Requirements
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
    Supported
    Models
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
And as user macsonrisanoted above, 4 GB of RAM is the practical minimum amount of RAM that Mountain Lion really needs since the OS itself uses at least that much often by itself.

the problem I have since I upgraded to Mavericks version 10.9.1
The problem appears only with Mail not with other programs, not even with my browser.
When I try to zoom the text of an e-mail I received or sent , I can no longer use the keys Command + to enlarge the text, although I can reduce it with Command -.
As I have a problem with my eyes, This is a serious matter for me.
When I write an e-mail, if I select text and press Command +, it just displaces the text to the right.
Now, my husband has a USB keyboard. If he connects it to my computer, his regular Command + does not work either, but  he uses the extended keyboard, then it works. Unfortunately, he needs it for a musical application which does not work with a wireless keyboard.

Firefox 3.6.4 and 3.6.6 use a process called, "plugin-container.exe" which was using up most of my CPU when I opened up multiple tabs that contained Adobe Flash files, and caused Firefox to lock up.
My solution was to use Firefox 3.5.10 which you can get from the Mozilla website at [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html]
I am using Adobe Flash 10.1.53.64 without any problem in this version of Firefox. Check the release notes, I believe it contains all the latest security fixes in "Firefox 3.6.4".
Hopefully, they will fix Firefox 3.6 in the next version (e.g. Firefox 3.6.7), until then you should probably use "Firefox 3.5.10".

I bought a new computer and downloaded my lightroom 4 to it. When I installed the program it asked for my serial number and I imputed it. Then it asked for my previous serial number from my original lightroom 3 purchase. Since I upgraded to lightroom 4 I don't have the serial number for the version 3. How do I get the serial number from my 3 version so I can activate my version 4 program

If you have Lightroom 3 still installed, you can get it from there.
If you don't and you have your box/disk, it should be on there.
IF you don't have either of those, and you registered your software, you can log into your Adobe account and retrieve it there.

  • Since I upgraded iphoto, the program shuts down.  It loads for 2 minutes then just closes.  Ihave sent reports in and updated the program but it has been so frustrating.  I can't use iPhoto at all and can't even get at photos without it locking up. Help?

Since I upgraded to iphoto 11, I have not be able to access my photos without the program locking up, not respondiong, and shutting down. iphoto has went into repair on its own, but still shuts down.   I have sent in reports each time, but have not figured out the problem.  Has anyone else had this problem?

Post the first 50 - 100 lines of the crash log?
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • Pages won't close windows when I quit it since I upgraded to lion.

Ever since I upgraded to lion, whenever I open pages all the previous pages i was working on opened. It won't allow me to close them before quitting out of it, whenever I try to close them the system just ignores it.
Also the mouse cursor has been disappearing on pages.
I don't have this problem with numbers

Ever since I upgraded to lion, whenever I open pages all the previous pages i was working on opened.
The Resume feature in Lion opens the documents left open when an app was last quit. You can turn this feature off in System Preferences. See the General pane and its "Restore windows..." checkbox.
It won't allow me to close them before quitting out of it, whenever I try to close them the system just ignores it.
Does anything at all happen when you close a window in Pages using either the mouse or the File > Close menu command? eg a beep, a box appears, etc. It reads like you cannot close any Pages window, ever.

  • Has anyone else experienced persistent "iPhoto unexpectedly quit" since last weeks upgrade to Lion 10.7.3?

I am getting persistent "iPhoto unexpectedly quit" since last weeks upgrade to Lion 10.7.3?
It is usually preceded by a warning that the library is corrupted and needs to be repaired. I can still see the supposedly bad photos in Aperture without problems. I believe there is a serios bug in iPhoto.
One other clue here is that I attempted to download a new slideshow to my MobileMe Gallery immediately after the upgrade but even though it is still a valid Share option it did not work. After that with a brief exception I got the unexpected quits referrred to above.

talked about a similar problem and I just enabled Commodo's root certificate in Keychain Access and now mobileme is working for me again with Aperture.

  • My accounts program won't run without legacy Java SE6 runtime since I upgraded to OS x Yosemite but I can't download it

My "Solar" accounts program won't run without "legacy Java SE6 runtime" since I upgraded my iMac desktop to OS x Yosemite but I can't download it, nothing happens when you click on the link to apple support

Okay, I'm not a Genius, but, I'm smarter than the one I spoke to at the Apple Store. They told me that they couldn't help me with Legacy Java SE6 Runtime. Adobe has the worst support in the industry so don't call them.
If you have a Time Machine backup, go to one that pre dates your install of Yosemite. Go to the System/Library/Java and drag copy the folder to your internal hard disk. Now you will need the Administrator password. Once copied, drag the old Java folder into your System/Library folder and when asked to replace, click OK. Restart your Mac and you will have use of your software that requires Legacy Java SE6 Runtime.
I'm totally done with Apple since they are trying to box me into a corner. Have fun kids.

  • ITunes will not shut off. Since I upgraded the software, itunes opens no matter what program I am using and when I close it , it will just reopen over whatever I am using.  this is very annoying!!!!

iTunes will not shut off.  Since I upgraded my software, itunes opens no matter what program I am trying to use.  If I close it it automatically opens moments later and interferes with what I am working on. This is so annoying

This is probably occuring because your Mac is attempting to wirelessly sync with a device. Try unchecking the checkbox that reads "Open iTunes when device is connected" (this option can be found under the general page of iTunes when you have a device connected).
