Progressive Nano problems

I have a nano that currently as a uploading problem and an LCD screen problem.
Pertaining to the LCD problem, It's not cracked, but simply doesn't display any information and stays blank. I assume that to fix this problem would cost me too much and that apple can't fix the problem. I found a dent about 1 cm in diameter. The problem started in Feb 2006 and about 25% of the screen worked. Gradually, it worked less and less till now it displays nothing. Is there anything I can do?
Next thing is that whenever I try to upload data through software beyond a initial restore, it displays a message that the Ipod data is corrupted. But when I upload data directly to the ipod, if doesnt give me this problem.
I have brang the Ipod to a local Apple store and they said this was a problem they have never seen before. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

The Apple store clerk told me that I could send it in to be fixed, but he doubted that they would repair it and suggested I find a third party company to fix it. Well, those repair cost from a third party for a replacement LCD was more than I thought it would be worth. Personally, LCD is not really important to me aside from the battery life remaining and menu selecting. I had to estimate on where I am for both.
Regarding the second point, I can ONLY add songs if I do a complete restore of my IPod and anytime after that point does the corruption problem resurface. The corruption seems to make it unable to play songs or sync correctly. The data is still there when I check the space remaining for data. The only way I have been able to add songs is to use ipod updater and use restore function to go back to factory settings and re-add all the songs.
Anyways, if I dont add any songs and just use the USB for charging and Disk use, it seems to work fine.
Also, I might note that a friend of mine had a Nano that suffered much more damage and he brought his nano to the Apple Store and they replaced it. I personally believe that the 1 cm dent could be my fault and I am more than willing to live without a working IPod nano screen, but the uploading issue is becoming a great annoyance. I am fairly sure whatever "traumatic" damage that made the dent couldn't of caused the corruption problem.

  • 1st generation nano problems....help greatly appreciated!!

    i have a first generation nano, and i plugged it in to my computer last night and it said something about needed to scan for problems...then it popped up my F drive saying that i needed to insert something into the F drive....
    i have tried three different cords to hook up my iPod to my pc...I tried another usb port...so i am assuming that it is either my computer, the iTunes or the iPod...regardless of what it is, my iPod wont update. and when it says it is updating it's not.
    i am running a much older version of iTunes, the one that came on the cd with the first gens...i think 7.2..cant remember, and i have a Vista OS. could THAT be what causing issues? i usedto have it hooked up to an XP and it worked fine, then when I changed it over to the Vista pc, everything went to pot.
    Does ANYONE know what to do?? I would appreciate any help, i really dont want to have to buy a new iPod if at all possible...

    This forum is for 3rd generation nano problems, not 1st.

  • IPod Nano Problem with Turning On

    Right I've got a bit of a problem with turning on the nano. I know it works because when its on it's fine, but if its off for a while (i.e. 30 mins or more) and I go to press play or whatever, nothing happens. But if I press any of the buttons about 100 times it will come on and work fine.
    Has anyone had this problem and know if there's anything I can do about it. It seems like the buttons don't work properly, but it can't be that because they work when its on.
    Here's what I know it's not:
    Battery (its full)
    In need of a restore (tried that)
    Reset (tried that)
    In need of new software (just put the latest on)
    So any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers.
    Oh also, completely off subject just trying to kill 2 birds with one stone, how do you do backwards deletes on a mac (i.e. what the 'del' button does on a PC)?

    AliasailA, you are kidding, right??
    You cannot use someone else's serial number or Apple Care Plan--it doesn't work that way.
    I noticed you had another post that said the mini was given to you and has a "sad face icon" and out of warranty. Hummmm.
    You really have to send that mini in for repair/replacement or consider it a lost cause. Maybe it is time to buy an iPod Nano for yourself.

  • 3rd Gen Nano-Problems with iPod Clock Radio.

    Hey All,
    I'm having problems w/new Nano and an Alarm Clock Radio for iPods.
    1) When the alarm time is reached, the iPod display lights up like its been triggered, by the alarm clock base, but music doesn't play. The unit then reverts to the beeper.
    2) The unit is made by SDI Technologies, the same people that make the iHome models of Alarm Clock radioes. They've told me that Apple needs to come out w/an update/fix.
    3) Does that sound right to all of you?
    Has anyone heard about a time frame for a revision past 1.0.1?
    Thanks, Tom

    Thanks GunnerJr,
    I had an appt. at my local Apple store yesterday. The guy was helpful but felt that it indeed was a firmware issue that was occurring. He couldn't say when the next update would be rolled out but said they're pretty frequent based on prior Apple products.
    Apparently the redesign of the Nano is from the ground up and very thorough. The firmware in the clock radio is probably kind of dated back to some time in '06. Hopefully the software/QA people will get wind of this issue and arite it into a future update. Certainly not the biggest issue they'll deal with but hopefully sooner rather than later.

  • Progress bar problem in IE with on demand application call

    I have several on demand application processes that I call from javascript. The application processes in turn call pl/sql procedures. Some of the procedures take up to 10 seconds to complete and while they are running, the screen just appears to freeze so the user does not know that they are actually running. I would therefore like to add some kind of a progress bar or hourglass or some indication that things are happening.
    So I found the instructions in Re: Display of Hourglass When Page is processing . This works great in Firefox, but not in IE.
    My Footer text:
    <style> #AjaxLoading{padding:5px;font-size:18px;width:200px;text-align:center;left:50%;top:20%;position:absolute;border:2px solid #666;background-color:#FFF;}
    </style>
    <div id="AjaxLoading" style="display:none;">..Processing..
    <img src="#IMAGE_PREFIX#processing3.gif" id="wait" />
    </div>
    My javascript:
    function create_invoice(pMilestoneNumber){
    var agree=confirm("Are you sure you want to bill this Invoice?");
    var get = new htmldb_Get(null,$v('pFlowId'),'APPLICATION_PROCESS=P110_CREATE_INVOICE',$v('pFlowStepId'));
    if (!agree)
         return;
    html_ShowElement('AjaxLoading');
    get.addParam('x01',pMilestoneNumber);
    gReturn = get.get();
    alert(gReturn);
    get = null;
    doSubmit();
    In Firefox, the Progress bar appears immediately after the user clicks ok to the confirm request. In IE, it does not appear until the application process returns with the return message.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your reply. You are right, part of the code got stripped off, I guess I failed to use the code brackets before and after. Here is is again using the code brackets:
    Javascript:
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    function create_invoice(pMilestoneNumber){
    var agree=confirm("Are you sure you want to bill this Milestone?");
    var get = new
    htmldb_Get(null,$v('pFlowId'),'APPLICATION_PROCESS=P110_CREATE_INVOICE',$v('pFlowStepId'));
    if (!agree)
         return;
    html_ShowElement('AjaxLoading');
    get.addParam('x01',pMilestoneNumber);
    gReturn = get.get();
    alert(gReturn);
    get = null;
    doSubmit();
    </script>Footer:
    <style>   #AjaxLoading{padding:5px;font-size:18px;width:200px;text-align:center;left:50%;top:20%;position:absolute;border:2px solid #666;background-color:#FFF;}
    </style>
    <div id="AjaxLoading" style="display:none;">..Processing..<br /><img src="#IMAGE_PREFIX#processing3.gif" id="wait" />
    </div>I was using IE8, but I found an another computer with IE7 and I have the same problem there.
    My javascript code throws up a confirm message and as soon as a hit ok, Firefox brings up the progress bar and it stays up until the alert message comes back with the return from the application process. Just the way I want it. In IE, the screen just freezes after I hit ok (the same way as if you don't have a progress bar at all), but then when the alert message comes up with the return from the application process, the progress bar comes up (a little late....).
    Do you have any suggestion as to what my problem may be?

  • Major Nano Problem - Please Help

    I have a 1 GB iPod Nano that worked fine when I got it in May 2006. Now, however I have a major problem. I put my iPod on the computer to charge through USB and when it was finished I could not safely remove. Actually, the iPod was not recognized by my computer or iTunes at all and the screen keeps flashing the apple logo and will not turn off until the battery runs down.
    Here is what I did to try and fix. Reset and restore. I also tried to put the iPod in disc mode. When I put in disc mode my computer recognizes the iPod and it is shown in iTunes but when I safely remove, the iPod remains in disc mode and I can't get out of disc mode unless I reset and then I am dealing with the flashing appe logo again.
    Could someone please help!
      Windows XP

    I'm thinking that the nano is the cause of the problem and so i "think" tou showld send it back for the cost of it and buy a new 2 gig one.

  • Nano problem again

    I recently wrote in about mi nano not turning on When i want it too. It seems that this happens after i havent used the ipod for about 24hours. I have spoken to a number of people who have the same problem and they say that it happens if they havent been using it for a while. Is there some strange setting which causes it to lock after a certain amount of time?

    This is a feature which keeps your battery from draining faster while the iPod isn't in use. When you stop your iPod it goes to sleep, sorta like dozing with one eye open, so that when you turn the wheel or press the button it responds immediately. Sleeping consumes a small but significant amount of electricity. After about 12 hours of non-use it hibernates. This uses almost no electricity at all. The original iPods went into this deep sleep mode after about 36 hours.

  • Flash Player & Flash progress bars problem

    Hi.
    I'm rather desesperate here.  I have the latest version of Flash Player with the latest version of Mozilla Firefox (3.5.3).  Wherever I try to upload a file on a website that uses a Flash component to show the progress, it simply goes up to 100% under a second for a 15MB file.  This is my latest Speedtest.net :
    http://www.speedtest.net/result/574890835.png
    It's IMPOSSIBLE to upload anything over 2MB instantly with that kind of connection.  Even if it's a really good one.
    I've tried anything and everything; even a reformat (two weeks or so ago) and it did NOT solve the problem.  So, I'm pretty sure that the problems lies in either one of those software/code :
    - HTML 5
    - Flash Player
    I don't know if you guys can solve the problem but I just hope you can.  It's really annoying because a majority of file-hosting websites use Flash-based uploaders.  I've been in multiple forums in search for help but nobody seems to be able to solve my problem and in which seem to be unique. The problem also occurs and Internet Explorer 8 and Chrome on my end.  So, my problem isn't browser specific.  The problem also occurs on Windows 7 RC.
    My (modest) machine :
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz
    2 GB of DDR2 667MHz Ram
    nVidia GeForce 8500GT 512MB
    ~1.3TB of Hard drive (across 4 hard drives)
    Windows Vista Home Premium FR (Genuine) & Windows 7 RC (Build 7100) [dual-boot]
    Thank you for your help in advance.

    Please help!

  • Playing audiobooks in Nano problem w/track numbers

    I load audiobooks into Touch and label with disk 1 of 5, 2 of 5, etc and the entire book plays thru w/no problem. I do the same for Nano 3G and the tracks show up individually (track 1 shows 5 times, track 2 shows 5 times, etc). Why the difference? Nano plays all the track 1 then all the track 2...Is there a way to get into Nano so the audiobook will play thru properly? Do you know why the 2 players are acting differently? Thanks for your help.

    There's quite a few differences between those iPods - like how it tells you about how the battery is doing without ejecting on the Touch and you get nothing on the nano.
    I didn't know that the Touch did it differently, but the best fix I've found on the nano is to download a script from Doug's scripts http://dougscripts.com/itunes/itinfo/jointogether.php
    The procedure is a few steps but basically after you have that script installed you bring your book in and for each disk you select the tracks and then go to the script menu (the funny S) and run the script. You may have some learning to get things in the right order. Once it creates the single track you hit Get Info and switch the type from Music to Audiobook. Repeat for the other disks. If you want you could cram all the disks together in one track.
    This also creates little track jump points which allows you to skip forward or backward by those tracks. Some other solutions don't do that as far as I can tell.

  • "Discovery is in progress" – performance problem?

    I am just wondering if anyone could explain to me exactly what is being performed during the “Discovery is in progress” part of the discovery wizard.
    The browse/lookup and everything is working until the discovery in progress and then just sits. However despite trying on BOTH of my Management Servers for around
    20 new servers a couple HAVE gone through.
    Because it has worked a couple of times I don’t think it has anything to do with a couple of other things I have checked into (and OK) such as the broker service
    running on SQL and SPN’s all OK etc. Plus all of this this has been working a good year or so previously.
    Looing in the Operations Manager event logs on the management server’s doesn’t seem to reveal a great deal. I can see an event 7026 when I start but nothing really
    showing what I would call a problem.
    What I have also noticed is that if I do an uninstall the window never says finished. However if I close the window the server is uninstalled after some time.
    Again until around 4 or 5 days ago (as with the above) this was not a problem. I also found the other day the console hung on both management servers which I have never seen before.
    Obvious things such as my management server health look OK. I have done a reboot and even flushed the health service on one management server.
    Just wondered if any of the above helps point me in a direction?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    I would like to suggest you increasing the database size, it seems like that the database is almost full, please refer to the below link about increasing database size:

    Restart the SDK service after you have increased the database size and see if you still have the error.

  • Multiple nano problems

    I seem to have a knack for killing my ipod nanos. I broke my first one after two months when I accidentally pulled the headphones out repeatedly (I got them caught on gym equipment) and it started pausing on its own. I replaced it, and within three weeks of having the replacement it broke too.
    My current problem is with that same replacement nano (4GB). It no longer holds its battery charge, and when I try to connect it to my computer's USB port (I'm running Windows XP) it gives me a 'this device has malfunctioned and Windows cannot detect it' message. It sometimes also tells me that I have the wrong type of USB port, but I know that my port is a 2.0, so I don't think that's the problem. It didn't always do this, but I plugged it in one day and have had problems since.
    I also have problems with my iTunes software, and I'm thinking of reinstalling it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what course of action I should take with the ipod? I'm not sure I want to replace it only to have it break again in another three weeks, but it was $300.

  • IPod nano problems! PLEASE RESPOND ASAP!!

    HELP!
    A couple days ago I had to re-format the computer due to a virus. I didn't save any of the songs that were on iTunes. That night I listened to some songs on my iPod. The next day I plugged it in my computer for it to charge. When it was done charging, I went to listen to some songs but there were NO SONGS ON IT!! I have no clue what happened... has this happened to anyone? Does anyone know how to fix it? Please respond ASAP!
    Thanks,
    Molly =)
      Windows XP

    Hi Molly,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    Copying songs from your iPod to your computer
    "The iTunes library on your computer holds all the songs you've encoded from your CD collection or purchased from the iTunes Music Store. With default settings, iTunes automatically copies the songs in your library to your iPod. When you use your iPod as a hard disk, you can't see the songs iTunes copies to your iPod in the Finder or My Computer. This is normal. Using the Finder or My Computer, you can't copy these song files from your iPod back to iTunes or to any other computer. The synchronization between your iPod and your computer is always one way: from iTunes to iPod.
    If you've erased the music library on your computer, there's no way to use the Finder or My Computer to copy the songs from your iPod to reconstitute the library on your computer. One solution is to encode the songs from your CD collection again, then sync your new library with iPod. If you purchased songs from the iTunes Music Store and didn't back them up, there's no way to download them again. You'll have to buy new copies of the songs."
    Taken from Using your iPod as a hard disk
    So even if there were any tracks on your iPod, Apple has set it so you shouldn't be able to get them back.
    You need to reload iTunes with music, and then get into the habit of backing them up as well. Once you've done that you can start loading onto the nano.
    To help with backing up your music this link will explain what the files are:
    What are the iTunes library files?

  • Nano problems with Alarm clocks(lik e Luna or others)

    I have a new nano 4gb, and an Xtrememac Luna... My old ipod 2nd gen worked perfecly, the new nano has problems instead.. When my alarm function lit the ipod, it does not play the song, but remain in pause... The nano wakes up, but old nano started to play the song, this stands in pause. Why this? Can I hope in a fix or something? many people have this problem...
    Possible solutions?
    thanks in advance

    Since there was no reply from Apple so far I called their service today.
    The claimed that this problem was not known with the devices which they are selling and that they can't tell about 3rd party alarm clocks.
    Big news! Who would have thought of that answer?
    Well I then called the manufacturer of my alarm clock which is called "auvisio", one of these cheap copies. They knew about the problem with the nano 3G on thier device and said that they can't offer a solution so far. They offered RMA which I would say is quite nice of them but it doesn't help me much with my wake-up-problem in the morning.
    I already settled with the thought that I would have to buy the more expensive Apple stuff but as I read above even Bose seems to have the problem. Complete confusion.
    Hopefully firmware 1.0.3 will be released soon and can finally solve these problems. Release 1.0.2 definitely was a step into the opposite direction...

  • Nano problems restarting on different computer system

    I reset my nano, reloaded the disk (did the recover as well) so that everything was wiped out on the nano and the computer. I used to load the nano from a pc now I only have my Powerbook G4. But, I purchased some songs and it won't let me copy them to my nano. It's all reset- even the name of the nano is different.
    Can anyone tell me why I can't get songs moved to my nano?
    TIA!

    Check the authorisations for PowerBook to play the purchased songs? Sometimes deauthorising and reauthorising will clear a problem like this.: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation
