"Prohibition Symbol" But XP Still Works

I just got my Blackbook last month and have had no problems until today.
I'm on vacation now, so I don't have my install disks and my Time Machine external hard drive is back at home, so I can't restore like I normally would.
I booted up earlier today to find a long wait at the grey Apple logo boot screen followed by the "prohibition symbol" (circle with line thru it).
I've tried booting to safe mode, resetting the PRAM, holding down X and praying but it continues to have issues.
I booted in verbose mode and it told me that it had an error loading the kernal, so I'm guessing this means I need to reinstall Leopard using the disks and Time Machine backup, or something similar.
Of course, I can't do this until I get back home - which won't be for a while. I am able to get into my XP partition no problem. I even tried using MacDrive to explore my Mac HD but it told me it was "corrupt and unreadable". I tried using the "repair" function but it just hangs at "checking catalog file" for hours with no progression.
I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do now, here, without my install disks or backups. Any magic tricks out there that work? Any way of getting MacDrive to actually fix the drive?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Nope. Your OS X installation or volume is corrupted. Reformatting and reinstalling OS X is your only option at this point. Either you need an installer disc or a restorable backup (or both.)
