Prohibitory sign when installing Windows

Hi,
I am having huge problems installing Windows 7.
I have a perfectly good Windows 7 DVD which boots on other devices, yet it doesn't on mine. First off it started with spitting out the DVD (which I can understand ), so I thought its my superdrive. I went and bought a new drive today, except this is a SATA drive and tried to boot from there. It loads the DVD fast and easy within OSX, but when I reboot and try to boot from the disk it hops to a flashing Apple logo flashing with a Prohibitory sign (circle with a slash).
I think I have tried about everything. The following scenarios I have tried:
Partitioning the OSX Boot disk with a bootcamp disk (50/50)
Using disk utility, formatting a 750GB disk as FAT with MBR
Using bootcamp to start the instalation
Rebooting holding ALT and chosing the Windows DVD as boot source
Rebooting holding C
The above using an original Windows 7 disk
The above using an original Windows XP disk
The above usign an original downloaded Windows 8 disk
The above using an illigal download of Winodws 7 (just for testing purpose)
The above using a burned dvd with Debian 5 Netinstall
The above both with a new DVD drive and the old Superdrive
The above with a USB installation disk (but found out that only MBA's support USB boot)
The above removing the lion boot HDD and installing Snow Leopard on an other HDD
The only boot that works is using the orignal OSX boot disk. Tried with Leopard and Snow Leopard but get the same results.
I am running out of options here and would like to install Windows (don't ask why! )

So I have tried to restore my firmware using the 1.5 Restore CD (burned to a DVD) and holding the power button, but it doesn't restore. It gives the tone, searched the DVD and boots OSX normally. OSX does read the DVD and shows it correctly.
I have a Mac Pro 3,2 with the following setup:
2x 2.8GHz Intel XEON Quad Core CPU
4GB (4x 1GB) PC6400 DDR2 ECC (FB_DIMM)
3.1TB HDD (1TB Seagate + 1TB Seagate + 350GB WD, +750GB Seagate)
Original Superdrive
Liteon DVD-RW (http://www.webhallen.com/hardvara/106943-lite-on_intern_sata_dvdrw_24x-svart) brand new! (since the superdrive has problems)
ATI Radeon HD 2600
30" Cinema HD
The mac has the latest version of Lion installed (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)).
Please, does anybody have any ideas? I am desperate =S

UEFI 2.0 is Intel name and standard for what Early Mac Pro 2008 uses.
EFI 1.x is Apple naming, not the same.
The issue with booting Windows 7 64-bit, MacPro 2.1 can't boot from Vista SP1 64-bit and later w/o changing the DVD EFI boot menu code. That is not true on a 2008.
Half the time or more I am not at a desk but 'single finger' typing on tablet.

Not sure why the snide aside about opinion. We had one person that wanted to flash his Mac, no matter what, and change processor card, turn a 4,1 into a hackin-5,1.
I see people try to use FW-DVD and have trouble, so when trouble comes calling, disconnect. And an ATTO or Areaca card would be one item to include in hardware profile.
Intel - Microsoft UEFI and Apple are Apple and Oranges different. When I with Mac Pro 1,1 tried, I had to run down Imgburn and all the articles I could. One though is no longer online that helped a lot of peopole ("Jowie - "Select CDROM 1 or 2" was a common issue, and is the EFI bug). Yours, is different and never heard of 3.1 having an issue - though I am seeing trouble now with Windows 7 SP1 64-bit on 2011 Macs. So keep that in mind.

Boot camp not recognize keyboard and mouse when installing windows 7 pro 64 bit

I have some issue when installing windows 7 pro 64 bit using boot camp. after done partitioning the windows drive and when boot to windows installation process, i've got stuck in the first screen when choosing the language. it seems that the keyboard and mouse are not detected.
i'm using boot camp ver. 5.0.
does anyone have similar problem with me?

I have finally successfully installed Windows 7 x64 on MacBook Air 13.3" (2013) thru Bootcamp.
Problem: After Windows 7 install thru BootCamp, I got to the first login screen and not input devices (Mouse, keyboard, USB) worked. I tried to boot into Windows Safemode, but I received the error "Windows can not complete installation in Safe Mode".
Cause: WIndows 7 does not have native USB 3.0 drivers, included on the install images.
Resolution: I downloaded the latest device drivers with thru BootCamp and copied them to the USB Flash Drive that had my bootable Windows 7 x64 install on it. The second option in BootCamp is "Download Support Media". This does more than just download drivers. It creates a file called "autoattended.xml". This is key as it tells Windows during the install process to use the device drivers that you download. Otherwise, you need to do it manually, which you can't because you have no mouse or keyboard.
NOTE: I had no need of a super drive because I had all the files on one USB flash drive. Therefore, I don't think it matter which side of the MBA the USB drive was plugged in, as other solutions suggested.

You need Apple drivers. And you then need to add on your own audio driver.
You can run Assistant at any time to download and save a set of drivers.

Error when installing windows 7

Hello... When installing Windows 7 Ultimate, I'm getting an error during the windows installation setup. I get the error 0x800024. I choose the correct partition, click install, and this error shows.
I'm on a mac pro and on snow leopard. I have boot camp 3.0.1, which doesn't show windows 7 when it's about to reboot into the installation screen. Is there anything I can do?

Supposedly you need BootCamp 3.1 for Windows 7.
On a MacPro you can't have the Mac OS in slot 1 if you going to install Windows on a second drive. Just put the blank one in slot #1 (that you want Windows on) and then Mac OS drive in slot #2, #3 or #4 and it should work then.
Boot Camp can only use up to 2 partitions, Mac as #1 and/or Windows as #2. No 3rd partition. You have to have enough free space to use Boot Camp. If you have a 300 gig disk and you have 200 gigs worth of space used up it will only see the 100 gig of space left. And if it's an old disk you may not have enough CONTINUOUS space for it. The files may be all over and it can't find enough free space.
If on a second (blank) disk what I did was use Disk Utility to format/partition (UFS, Journaled) the whole disk as 1 partition and then let Boot Camp/Windows 7 (I used XP) repartition the disk as NTFS as the first partition (for XP) and left the second (for storage) alone. Or in your case just let Boot Camp/Windows partition it as one NTFS.
You have to tell it which one to use. If you don't have a choice then set the partition larger then 32 gigs then you should only have one choice, NTFS.
The Mac can't write to an NTFS disk so it can't make a NTFS partition. So that is why you just partition it like you would if you were only putting the Mac on it. (On an already blank disk). Then when Boot Camp/Windows takes over then Windows can write the NTFS partition.
The same with a Mac already on a hard drive. 1 partition. Boot Camp/Windows will then make the 2nd partition an NTFS partition (or what ever you want).

Adobe CS12 is unheard of. Adobe Creative Suite's latest version is CS6.
Please be specific as to what software you are trying to install, OS version etc so that I may be able to help you.

Unknown Hard Error when installing Windows XP?

Ok first off I tried installing Windows Vista Home Premium on my new 24in iMac and after installation had problems installing drivers. Found out it was because I had a 64 bit version of Vista and the iMacs dont support that. Then I got a copy of XP Home Service Pack 3 from a friend to try. Im not sure if it is 32 or 64 bit but I was going to try it anyways. Its starts to extract the files and get ready for the install but not long after it does that it gives me an unknown error and the blue screen of death.
"STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error
\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll"
Does anyone know what this means? I would really like to get one of them installed. I dont care which one...if anyone knows how I can put a 64bit version of Vista on my iMac that would probably be best since it installed fine and just messed up when installing the drivers. Otherwise can anyone tell me what to do about this unknown error? Or do I need to search around for yet another operating system cd?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

there is indeed not a solution for that CD-problem, since you are getting it when installing from the CD not after the installation, when there is a problem with that specific file on your harddisk.
So, apart from the checking of the CD for physical problems (dirt, dust, scratches) the only other solution would be the use of another CD and maybe doing a full disc-copy of that CD onto a CD-R or CD-RW and hoping the best.
As for the Vista procedures the hatter described, all these has to be done before even installing Vista and also on a Windows PC.
The outcome of that would be a modified Vista Installation DVD, which seems to be installing even on iMacs not really supported.
Since I don't have Vista I never tried it myself, though.
But the hatter is 'our local Vista/Windows 7 genius'
As for the 'old XP CD' you found:
such behaviour/error is usually a sign that the XP CD is not at Service Pack level 2 (SP2) which is a must for XP CDs.
However, you can use these instructions http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxpsp2slipstream.asp to 'slipstream' yourself a XP SP2 installation CD.
But again, you have to do it on a running Windows PC.

Error 0x80300024 When Installing Windows 7 Using Bootcamp

Hi. I'm trying to install windows on my mac mini. I have a 2010 mini server with dual 500gb hard drives. I want to have one disc for apple and the other disc for windows. When I try the install I get the windows error 0x80300024. After some research I found a straightforward, but not easy solution. It seems windows freaks out when it sees more than one physical hard drive. Therefore the solution is to disconnect the cables for the other hard drive, install windows on the target drive, then reconnect the cables to the other drive. I rather not tear open the mini and do this as it looks a little painful. Anyone have a suggestion on how to get around this? And yes, I know it's a windows issue but i figured there must be some mini users who've experienced this issue.

One possble solution here, with maybe alt key to boot your Windows installer instead of the c key...

I just installed it today (twice actually, after changing my mind about something) so I can tell you how to do it. What I did was completely ignore Boot Camp and used Disk Utility to format the intended Windows drive as FAT32/Master Boot Record. Then I just rebooted with C held down and the Windows 7 CD took care of the rest.
I have a 2009 Mac Pro so all my drivers etc were on my OS disc. If you need to burn the drivers, by all means use Boot Camp just for that part
I got a warning in Windows 7 that Boot Camp had issues with the RC but it has been rock solid so far.

Error 0x80070017 when installing Windows 7 via Boot Camp...

I've been trying hard to research this issue and haven't come across anything that has worked for me.
At work, we have an iMac (Early-2009) that we wish to install Windows 7 on. Previous user has left, so I reinstalled Snow Leopard (10.6) and used Disk Utility from the disc to reformat complete to GUID single partition Mac OS Extended (Journaled), which is pretty standard for Macs. Mac OS X installed and booted just fine. I updated completely to 10.6.8 and all other updates. Only installed Microsoft Office 2011 and Firefox.
So Boot Camp begins...
Found that the early-2009 model doesn't "support" Windows 7 64-bit, so we are fine going with 32-bit. The 32-bit Windows 7 disc has been used to install Windows 7 using Boot Camp on 2 Mac Mini's (one Intel Core Duo, the other one Intel Core 2 Duo) just a few days ago.
Opened Boot Camp Assistant, partitioned the 1TB drive equally, inserted the Windows 7 disc, and clicked Restart.
It boots from the Windows 7 disc, I go through the options, choose the BOOTCAMP partition and format it (I assume Windows 7 is choosing NTFS for me). Click next.
It copies the files instantly, but then "begins" to Expand the files. It remains at 0% for 5-10 minutes (I can hear the Windows 7 DVD spin down and spin up, but mostly spin down). That's when the error hits:
"Windows cannot copy files required for installation. The files may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070017"
I click Ok and cancel the install. Restart and boot back into Mac OS X. And here I am.
Important Notes:
I've tried multiple times with a 64-bit disc as well. I will likely go check out another 32-bit disc from our software department, but I know this disc works on other Macs.
This issue occurred a month back as well when we attempted to install Windows 7 via Boot Camp (so before the hard drive and OS were reformatted and reinstalled). I was hoping reformatting and reinstalling the Mac OS X would solve the issue.
The Superdrive appears to be working just fine.
I read somewhere that I need to use repair disk to fix it. Does anyone know if I can repair disk a NTFS partition? Or am I suppose to repair disk the parent drive itself? The place I read it wasn't specific AT ALL and the forum was closed and I couldn't find a way to get a hold of the person. It just said "Repair disk did the trick". People, if you find a solution to your own problem, POST the solution!

Yea, I saw that kb article. I verified we have the early 2009 iMac. It's an iMac 9,1 (3.06 24-inch, A1225).
As far as different hardware, I really don't think so, but I'll have to double check with my fellow employees. The specs all match up, but I'll see if anyone remembers having to replace hardware or send it into Apple.
I did think of trying an external DVD drive too, I'll see if I can scrounge one up. I'll post if it works or not.
The employee using the machine knows Windows, but is willing to learn the Mac OS X. Diversify your experiences I always say!
An added note to the Repair Disk "solution". Turns out you can't run Repair Disk on NTFS partitions or the parent hard drive that contains that partition, which makes since. I can only run Repair Disk on the HFS+ partition which did no good. (This is, of course, from booting up using a Mac OS X Install DVD).

Error 0xc00000e9 when installing windows 7 on OSX lion

I have a mid 2011 model of macbook pro i7 15 inch , and i just upgraded to OSX lion from os leopard . I tried to install windows 7 via bootcamp 4.0 , and the download for the windows support software always hangs at mid point , and must retry several times before it completes. After which when starting to install windows 7 , at the screen where it says loading windows file , suddenly there is an error of 0xc00000e9 , and i could not continue to install after which , even though i have removed all USB. Is there any way to solve this or do i have to downgrade to bootcamp 3.0 to install the windows 7.

No downgrade, what you need to do is head to Bootcamp and delete the Bootcamp partition
Then head to Disk Utility and Erase Free Space with Zero. this will take some time and write zeros' to all your spare space on the drive, it also reads those zeros back to confirm and when it can't do that the driver software will map off the problem sector on your drive.
Once that's finished, use the Bootcamp software again and Windows should install.

It was a display driver. All I needed to do was to boot from the CD again and following the directions in the post.
Worked like a charm.

When installing Windows 7 using Bootcamp, expanding windows files gets stuck at 65%?

I was installing Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on my Macboom Pro Retina with Bootcamp, and when it reached the "expanding windows files" stage, it got stuck at 0%. I waited a few minutes, and the percentage began to increase until it got to 65%, at which it stopped again. I left it for a while, but after coming back nearly an hour later, it was still stuck at 65%, so I canceled the installation by clicking the close button of the installation window. It froze after that. I could move my cursor, but I couldn't click anything. I got impatient and held down the power button to shut it down manually. When I restarted the Mac, it played the normal startup sound then went to a black screen with a blinking dash symbol in the upper left corner. It's now stuck on this screen. I'm scared I might have really screwed up my computer. What do I do?

Edit: Fixed it by just holding down the option key when it restarted. Don't know why I didn't think of that before. I also removed the partial Windows download and the whole Windows disc partition using Bootcamp.
I think the reason why it didn't work is because I used an OEM version of Windows 7, which is to say I bought the licence key off of some website for $35 and they emailed me with the key and an .iso of Windows 7. I read somewhere that using OEMs with Bootcamp is not recommended. But that leads me to another problem - I really do want Windows on my Mac since I have some programs that would only run on Windows and I bought PhotoShop Elements 12 for the Windows platform and to switch platforms I would need to upgrade to 13, which costs almost as much as buying the original. And I don't want to go buy a proper Windows installation disc, that would mean wasting the $35 I already spent.
So is there any way I can actually install Windows safely with my OEM version of it?
