Project 2010 - Automatic scheduling or manually changing end date on summary task wipes out gantt formatting

Hello,
Below is a before and after screenshot if I do any of the following:
1. Turn on automatic schedulilng
2. Manually set the end date of the summary task to beyond any of the below tasks end dates. 
Any help would be great.

Thanks for the reply.  For the purpose of the screenshots I didn't demonstrate automatic scheduling.  I did however turn it on at the application level (settings), summary task level and individual task level.  Either immediately or after
a calculate it would ultimately remove the custom formatting either accross the board (If all tasks were set to automatic) or just to the point where the summary task end date is set.
To your second point.  I don't have a huge amount of experience with bar styles but if we use ms word as an example are bar styles not the equivalent of a font?  With customizations like I've made (you stated above 'individually formatted') something
like bold or italics for example?  I need to do specific customizations for the stakeholders I will be presenting this to (ie: blue means this, red means that) on a bar by bar level.  That would be weird if ms didn't allow for that no?
It would be amazing if someone could put together a test.  Create 1 summary task, 2 sub level tasks, set the dates (with both manual and automatic), format the bars with a change (red or whatever) and then see if changing the summary task end date removes
the formatting on the sub level tasks in the gantt.  I know its a long shot but if someone is bored i'd send them some karma.

    With this FM you cannot change the enddate as enddate is a key field and used to determine the exact record in the database.
    Why don't you use PA30 to change end date of an infotype record?
    Or else delete the row first w. HR_INFOTYPE_OPERATION DEL and insert it again with INS operation and new end date.

    I guess the error message makes it clear you cannot do any manual changes via MB22 or some Z program.
    The only way to change such reservations is to go to the respective order & make the necessary changes to the specific component eg: change of date or quantity etc.

  • Can data in a Project 2010 file be synced with PWA timesheet data submitted against an un-published task?

    I recently learned that best practice when you're mid-project and have a task that should no longer be charged to is to use the "Close Task to Update" option in Project Server 2010 instead of setting the "Publish" field to "No"
    to remove the task from team members' timesheets because removal of task entries can lead to data inconsistencies.
    Prior to learning this, one of these data inconsistencies was introduced into one of my project files. Specifically, I set the "Publish" status to "No" on completed task without realizing that a team member had submitted a correction
    to a previous time period's timesheet that had not yet been approved. These corrected data are now shown in the Reporting Database, but they did not get carried through to the project file.
    Is there a way to reconcile the data shown in the project file with the data in the Reporting Database?

    Here's what I think happened:
    User submitted incorrect actuals against Task A on his timesheet. (In addition to the expected hours against the current period [TS1], he had accidentally submitted actuals against a future time period [TS2] that was not part of my current review window.)
    Not realizing he had incorrectly reported his time, I accepted the actuals and published them to the project.
    I updated the project, changing the Publish flag for Task A to No since no further work was expected against the task.
    The following week, the user resubmitted a correct version of TS2.
    The reporting database got updated with the new TS2 data.
    Everything in my approval queue that was submitted by this user has been approved and published; however, the data in my project file does not match what I am seeing in the reporting database.
    Do I just need to change the Publish flag for Task A back to Yes to get my project file to capture the changes that were made during the resubmission of TS2?

    We have WebI report created on top of Bex Query, We have key date as prompt for the report. Can we schedule the webi report for key date as last date of prior month, so if current month is February, my key date should be Jan 30 2011. I am not sure if this is possible?

    You need to apply two FM to get the end day of the month.
    First you need to apply FM MONTHS_PLUS_DETERMINE. This will give you the date after 3 months.
                CALL FUNCTION 'MONTH_PLUS_DETERMINE'
                  EXPORTING
                    MONTHS        = 3   " << for 3 months
                    OLDDATE       = l_start_Date   " << 12/01/2007
                 IMPORTING
                   NEWDATE       = l_3_Date. " << 02/01/2008
    Then call the FM RP_LAST_DAY_OF_MONTHS . this will give you the end date of the month
      CALL FUNCTION 'RP_LAST_DAY_OF_MONTHS'
        EXPORTING
          day_in            = l_3_Date  " << 02/01/2008
        IMPORTING
          last_day_of_month = l_3_Date  " < 02/29/2008
        EXCEPTIONS
          day_in_no_date    = 1
          OTHERS            = 2.
    Call both FMs again to get your another date(after 4 months).

  • Calendar app changes End date of all-day events? Grrrr.

    Okay this is getting incredibly frustrating. I use all-day events essentially as to-Do's. Things I have to do on a given day but no assigned time to do them.
    (I can't stand the idea of a separate to do list from my calendar so don't bother suggesting that please)
    If I do the task, I simply delete the to-do (I.e. I delete the all-day event).
    If I am unable to do it on the given date, I move it to a later date. Sometimes the best day, sometimes a few days later.
    Here is what happens...
    - I select the event
    - I hit Edit
    - I hit the Start/End date, up comes the date scroll wheel
    - I change the start date, which also changes the end date to match, then hit Done
    - when I am back to the event listing, the end date has CHANGED.  Sometimes it's a day later, sometimes several. No rhyme or reason or pattern I can discern.
    Help as this is really annoying.
    This was happening on my iPad 2 and is now happening on my New iPad.

    Nope.  In fact, not only have I not fixed it, I now also have a new problem with iCal events - both timed and all day.
    Some, for no rhyme or reason, add an alert. They always seem to be the day before at 9am alerts.
    If I go into the event and remove the alert, it will often recreate the alert a few days later.
    VERY FRUSTRATING!!

    Hello,
    My company recently purchased Microsoft project 2010 to track current jobs. We are becoming a large land surveying company with very large contracts. Each job could last a year or more and have about 12 task during that duration. Between each task we separate
    from office and field work. My first question is, does this software allow us to account for task to be stalled for another task and then pick up where the last time it was stalled without changes in cost and hours, because we manually start and
    end task and move back and forth. An example being we spend three days on one task in the field then we stall it to complete another task then start office hours then we start back where we left off on the first task maybe like 6 days after we stalled it.
    We also track our jobs by miles; each mile has a list of task to complete. Is this software accommodate this problem or should stick with excel 2013.

    Hi Neil,
    You can definitely manage your activities with MS Project 2010. Here are some advice:
    You cold use a task custom field to set task as "field" or "office" work, in order to group, filter and more generally organize activities and improve your project plan readability.
    Then using the task usage view, you'll be in an "excel-like" mode, where you can start a task A for some days, stop it, then start it again after few days. The usage views allows you entering manually work on tasks in a timephased view.

    Then concerning tracking jobs by miles, I'm not sure to understand it well. Either you can build your project plan's WBS based on your miles with all tasks to complete by miles. Another way would be to have miles as a task custom field. In case it is more
    like "how many miles are required for this task?", you could create a material resource "mile" and manage it for each task.

  • Automatic scheduling of network

    Hi guys
    If i confirm an activity the actual date is stored in the activity, this ofcourse can impact the time planning of the project.
    Therefore automatic scheduling is set to ON, but SAP only reschedules the activity itself instead of the entire network although all activities are linked via relations.
    Any idea how to make sure SAP triggers a rescheduling of the network after a confirmation of an activity.
    Note: if you manually change a date in your activity the system sets the system status on the network (NTUP), when you save in this case the entire network is rescheduled.
    But when you change the dates due to a confirmation this status is not set. Strange...
    Any ideas..

    Thanks for your post, but unfortunately...
    The automatic scheduling parameter is already set and it does perform the automatic scheduling if a date is changed in the activity.
    But this not the case when confirming an activity and that is in fact the problem.
    I checked the program in debug mode and it does call a FM to perform a scheduling of the confirmed activity.
    But it should schedule the entire network.
    Any ideas?

  • How to change both start and end dates for an business event (or any object

    Hi all.
    We are in the case to change the validity dates for several business events in training management.
    The special point is that both, start and end date, have to be changed.
    In example, business event 00000001 is valid from 2010.01.01 to 2010.01.31 and shoud be "moved" from 2010.05.01 to 2010.05.31.
    So if i run RHBEGDA0 report to change start date first, it doesn't work propperly because new start date is bigger than old enddate.
    Next thing we thought is to change end date first, using RHGRENZ1, and then change the start date, with the report RHBEGDA0. Problem with this solution is that a business event duration shoud be calculated taking care of free days (weekends and day ofs).
    Is there any better solution for this?

    You can write an LSMW for this t-code if the number of business events to be maintained is huge.

    Many Ms project users of our company facing below issue:
    We also have service pack 1 installed as well as Cummulative Update (14.0.6137.5000).
    When they change the date of any task or enter new task. Ms Project 2010 is crashed or any other activity. e.t.c
    Wheather Ms Project is connected with Project Server or we are doing locally and open new project.
    Is this microsoft bug or what is the solution of this .
    If we check on google . There are many causes of this issue on net and many solutions.

    Close Project Pro
    Navigate to following path  and rename existing Global.Mpt file
    C:\Users\{User ID}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MS Project\14\1033
    Re-launch Project pro to validate the behavior.

  • +/- buttons stopped working in Project 2010

    I'm running Project Pro 2010 on a Windows 7 laptop, but not connected to a server. This morning when I came in an opened up my project I couldn't show subtasks in my project by clicking on the + sign in front of the summary task. The cursor was a outline
    + and all it would do was select a task or open a task when I clicked or double clicked. I had to shut everything down and restart my PC and now it works like it should.
    I could show the subtasks by clicking on the Outline ribbon button and select show subtasks, but that is 3 clicks (select tasks, click Outline, click show subtasks) instead of 1 and a real pain. 
    What is going on? How do I get the cursor to work as it should without having to reboot?

    This could be related to an old issue where the video card/graphics rendering interacts in a funny way.
    Did you have an external monitor (docking station or the like) connected when you shut down the laptop and not so when you started the laptop the day after?
    Or another combination of having the laptop primary display being other than the built-in laptop screen?
