Project 2013 - Gantt Chart Printing/PDF issues

Hello,
I will try and explain this strange issue best I can - I am having some issues with creating a PDF from Gantt Chart view. The main problem here is when printing to PDF it seems to modify my Gantt at will as soon as i hit print preview. When I return to the
Gantt I created it is very much the same as before; here are the issues:
When Linking tasks or summary tasks (marked as milestones) to the other summary tasks (also marked as milestones) with an FS task dependency: The Gantt in Project displays an arrow linking the finish of the predecessor to the start of the linked summary
task as would make sense. Once I hit print preview this arrow is now moved to point from the finish of the predecessor to the milestone located at the end of the linked summary task. A simple work around has been to not mark the linked summary task as a milestone
(the predecessor can be, this doesn't seemmatter); the print preview then matches the Gantt I created.
When hitting print preview the task list stays in tact but the Gantt Chart displays very unusual colors (Deadline arrows become vibrant green), components of the legend become invisible, and task bars become invisible as well. The problem is very sporadic
and comes and goes as it pleases.
Any thoughts?
Regards,
Chris

Gentlemen,
I am working with Project 2013 - I have the latest service pack installed.
I found another way to accomplish what i needed/wanted with the milestone - that is not my main issue here.
I have seen other forum posts with the same issue regarding Phantom Gantt bars and strange colour issues when creating a PDF. I can send you screen shots if you'd like of the results. The problem comes and goes and nobody seems to have any solution for it.
I just need my print preview to match what I have created in the project, and then for my PDF to match the print preview.
Regards,
Chris

  • Problem with Project 2007 gantt chart in Acrobat X

    Good morning,
We are experiencing an issue with certain, rather large gantt charts in Project 2007 when converting them to PDF using Acrobat X. The issue is that the last portion of the chart is broken when converted to PDF. The chart will print properly when sent to a real printer, and it also renders correctly in the print preview. Here is an example of the issue:
As you can see, it has broken the last section of the chart and "stretched" the bars across the page. I couldn't find anything in the knowledge base that related to this issue, so any assistance would be apreciated.

Unfortunately it seems that this is still occuring, I guess nobody has ever come across this issue?

  • Print PDF issues with Reader 11.0.03

I upgraded to Reader 11.0.03 and can no longer print any .pdf files in Mac OS 10.8.4 I get the print dialog box, but when attempting to print get a pop-up “The document could not be printed” and then “there were no pages selected to print”.

Once it goes to the Print Dialogue box, you've essentially left Reader and are working in Mountain Lion. This may be a Reader setting, but when you installed Reader XI it retained all the preferences from X, so it's unlikely that the install alone did this.
You can try a "clean install":
    Download a trial of AppZapper.
Use it to remove Reader XI and all preferences and .plist files.
Download and reinstall Reader XI and see if it changes.
If it doesn't it's most likely in your printer settings.

  • Turning Off Gantt Charts in MS Project For PDF Gen

    hi
we have run into a problem when printing Gantt charts with PDF Gen. They can be extremely slow and on following up with Support they have confirmed that this is an issue with Distiller and there is no fix soon. So to get around the issue we tried disabling Gannt charts in MS Project by un-checking Bars and shapes in Gantt views in 3-D' (Tools > Options, View tab) in MS Project
Now we're finding LC does not always pick up the setting. What we have noticed is that sometimes when printing to PDF with the same file, on the same server via PDF Gen, Gantt charts will appear, and sometimes not. Occasionally, the MS Project file when printing Gantt charts will stall in the Adobe Printer Queue, LC will then start to get Stuck Threads in Weblogic, and basically become unstable.
Upon further investigation we saw that LC will use the WINPROJ.exe if it is running to do the conversion, or start a new WINPROJ.exe process if none is running. Sometimes while starting the process we get the Gantt chart setting picked up, and sometimes not, and there is no particular pattern.
We did a lot of digging with PROCMON to see if we could find if LC was picking up a Windows Registry entry for MS Project perhaps with a different user which did not have the Gannt chart turned off, but could not find one. Our conclusion was that sometimes LC has submitted the job before WINPROJ.exe is fully loaded and somehow the No Gantt charts option gets lost, though this is speculation based on observation of behaviour.
Anyone know what is going on?

    Hi,
We will get this issue reproduced in-house and see if we can provide a patch to address this problem. Prima facie this does not appear to be a bug in the product; rather it appears that MS Project might be "forgetting" this setting in some cases, or a similar setting (inside the file that is being converted) might override the application-wide setting.
We will try to see if we can forcibly set this flag (through MS Project COM APIs) each time a MS Project file gets converted. If this works, we might be able to provide a patch.
Meanwhile, can you let me know exactly what version of MS Office (with the service pack details, if any) that you are using?

  • Gantt Chart View for Multiple Projects

    Hello all;
Is there any way to see a complete Gannt view which refers to multiple project. means I' d like to select more than 2 project at the same time and look those Gantt view in order to realize what is going on for all projects.. ?

    Good one Ahmed
    Thanks
In my opinion however - if you were managing more than one project than Gantt Chart is not the relevant tool for monitoting - you need a dash board - Gantt chart really is useful for getting details of a project. If you see Gantt chart for more than one project then you will need a wall size screen

  • Gantt chart with null dates

    Hi,
Kylie discovered here that you couldn't have null dates in the project gantt query
APEX 4.0.2 Project Gantt Chart - Error Code: 2002 Message: Empty input
As Valentina suggested, I found the actual dates are mandatory, while the chart tolerates missing planned dates - which is a complete reversal of what actual project data would have.
baseline project gantt with parent-child relationship
What I found though is if some planned dates are missing, the generated XML seems to default with data from previous rows.
As detailed in this screenshot, my red lines indicate missing from/to dates (actual data also shown underneath chart)

    Hi Ahmed
    Thank you for your reply.
The time scales in Gantt chart specifically shows the year, month and weeks from the start date of project definition or basic start of WBS.
Since it is not a decided project, the Gantt chart need to show 0, 1st week, 2nd week, 3rd week etc.
The actual schedule from PD start date can be produced on actual initiation of project.
It means, i am looking for having Gantt chart for duration and not for specific start and finish dates.
    warm regards

  • Gantt chart with duration

    Hi Experts
As a part of bidding, client need to produce Gantt chart to the customer.
However, since this is presale process, the exact dates are not indicated but the duration of project to be specified. It means the schedule to show the duration from zero date.
Is it possible to take print of Gantt chart with out dates but duration of individual activity or WBS?
    Warm regards

  • Gantt chart view

    Hello
Im new to project coming from a Primavera background, still trying to get used to the features. So this isnt really a problem just annoying really. When i open projects the gantt chart date always shows 2013 so i have to drag it along i thought maybe i could
reset the date so the status date always shows instead. Is this possible?
    Thanks in advance :)

    Kathhee,
The view will open as you left it.  As an alternative you can press Scroll to Task (CTRL-SHIFT-F5) and it will display the Gantt chart as per the focused task.

  • Microsoft Project 2013 Reports Print Page Setup Issue

    Hi Guys,
I'm trying to print multiple reports together, is there any way i can setup the print page setup ( headers and footers ) so that i don't have to set it up for each report?
another issue i'm having is also say i set a print page setup( header and footer) for a specific report, then i change to a different report, then when i go back to the first report to print again the page setup settings is gone!
any help would be much apprecaited

    Hi Reza,
This should be possible if you have applied headers and footers to a non-enterprise view, such as the Gantt Chart view, resource sheet view etc. In this manner we can retain the Header and Footer information in the project after
saving and closing it. (The header and footer information will be available only from the view in which you have applied it)
Hence, if we have customized the Header and Footer in the Gantt Chart view, you will be able to view the same in Resource Usage view.

  • The printing of .pdf file from Project 2013 stops when the file name should be written. Project 2013 crashes. Does someone know what is wrong between Project 2013 and Adobe Acrobat 9?

The printing of .pdf file from Project 2013 stops when the file name should be written. Project 2013 crashes. Does someone know what is wrong between Project 2013 and Adobe Acrobat 9?

The Acrobat 9.x product family passed into "End of Support" mid-year of 2013.
Acrobat 9 support of MS Project via PDFMaker stops with Office 2007.
For Office 2013 support you must use Acrobat XI (11.0.1) or newer.
    A good to have reference:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/compatible-web-browsers-pdfmaker-applications.html
Acrobat Pro and Standard DC are what are currently available for purchase.

  • MS PPM 2013. May I hide the Gantt chart in Project Center

    Hi:
I know that in previous versions of Project Server you can't hide de Gantt Chart, but in Project 2013?
    Thanks
    Pablo

In all honesty I don't think that is likely to happen.  May I ask why you want to remove it?  As an alternative, you could set all of the bar colours to white, and that will in effect display nothing.

  • Project Owner not allowed to see Gantt charts in Project Server 2013

    Hi
A user of Project Server 2013 is unable to see the Gantt chart of his own project. It says in red letters (translated): "You are now allowed to access this page".
I cannot see any difference between this users account and rights and I have tried as a test user to create a project, but I am unable to reproduce this error.
    Any suggestions?
    Regards
    Jakob

    Hi,
One of the things I would suggest is to to Inactive the user and save and then Re-active the user and save in order to re-apply user permissions.
I am assuming the user has the correct permissions etc.
    Hope this helps

  • Customizing existing gantt chart view in project server 2013

    Hi,
I want to customize existing gantt chart view in PWA to allow text labelling on task/milestone names, numberic dispaly of percentage complete, scroll to date functionality.
Please let me know how can this be done?
    Regards,
    Sufiyan

    Hi Shaik Sufiyan,
If you know a little java scripting skill, you can definitely do this. You can use IE developer tools to grab the appropriate js file which controls the font.
Task color can be controlled from server settings -> Manage gantt view.
