  • New FCP user trying to learn the correct project and export settings for HD

Hi, I am a novice and have used FCP on my laptop for university projects only, and now have been asked to cut a trailer for a 7 min HD Pilot.
    A. I had to work in a different part of the country for the last 2 weeks therefore making this more problematic for myself long term hence:
    B. I have only been given a QT file of the pilot, as to cut a rough idea of the trailer, which I will then have to redo with the original HD files, when I return to them tomorrow.
    C. I created a low res QT to work with in FCP and have probably set up my project in a odd/wrong way and need to export this DV low res version for viewing by tomorrow, and I would ideally like it to look like the right aspect ratio and what not.
I know very little about ratios and interlaced and progressive files, and this project has been shot manly on a digital SLR camera for the animation, it has After Effects files and with sections of live action which I think was shot in HD 'i' mode.
I would like to learn quickly the sort of setup I should have for this kind of project, how I should export this low res DV version for viewing and for exporting the final HD project with what settings I should use.
I am sure I should have detailed more information, but as it is im not sure what is relevant. I can find out if im pointed in the right direction.
    Hope someone can help
    Cheers
    Kat

Well, this will make cutting more difficult. Because a low res version of the trailer will not have any timecode...nothing that references the main movie. So you will do the cut with the QT movie and then have to go back and eyematch-cut the trailer with the high res footage. Not fun and very time consuming. Not to mention that you will be cutting with the mixed audio of the trailer, including music and that will not sound right when you cut the trailer with the new music.
You need a QT version of the movie that contains the timecode of the original master (using media Manager to recompress to DV or other offline codec will do this), and you REALLY need to get split track audio. If they are record producers, they'll know what that is.

  • Ideal HD settings for projects and exports

Hi all I have just upgraded to Hi def I am using a canon XH A1s camcorder recording to compact Flash cards via Focus FS-CF Pro and i am having several issues including de-interlacing of footage exported movies various qualities from pin sharp to pixcellation the end quality compaired to the sd footage I was getting from a Canon XLS 2 pro is inferior.
So I need Help..... can anyone reccomend what my capture settings should be and the Ideal export settings (Quicktime) I would appreciate any help you guys can provide.
    Leo

this is related to FCP not imovie
You neglected to say that in your initial question. In any event, you can't make HD video discs with iDVD. Since you mention using Toast and a Blu-ray burner in another of your post, why not ask your questions in the Roxio Toast Support Forums? http://forums.support.roxio.com/

  • The Projects screen to import and export SAP xApp Manufacturing Integration

    Hello:
On my SAP Discovery Server, On the Projects screen to import and export SAP xApp Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence (SAP xMII) projects.
Under the projects listed I see one Default project, is listed as a System Project.
I did an import and used one of the sample application, along with the ExportManifest.xml file.
"You can create an external project structure, include it in a zip file, and import it as a new project. You do not need an ExportManifest.xml file to import a project."
Now I see two projects listed as System Projects, is that ok, would that cause any issues? Is there any way that I could correct this?
    Note:
If you import a project that already exists, the system overwrites the current project structure and files.
You can import hidden projects that do not appear on the Projects screen or in the SAP xMII Workbench. System-defined projects may appear in the Projects screen and in the SAP xMII Workbench, but you cannot delete them. You can import a project with the same name as a hidden or system-defined project and overwrite its properties. If you do this, they are no longer considered to be hidden or system-defined projects.
    Thank you,

You could consider creating a project and exporting it to see the proper format of the zip file, including the ExportManifest.  You should find attributes in the xml for setting the description, system type, etc.

  • Problems creating and exporting Blu-ray

On one of my first efforts at using Encore CS3 to create a Blu-ray movie I ran into some puzzling problems. I do not know if these are bugs in Encore, problems with my computer, or errors on my part in setting up the project.
A few weeks ago I created a movie of length 2:06:21:11 using Premiere Pro CS3. At first I needed a DVD of this movie and I did not have sufficient storage to export to Encore for Blu-ray, so I exported MPEG2 video and .wav audio for DVD. I imported these assets into Encore (complete with chapter markers) and produced my DVD with no problem.
Later, having obtained more external storage, I returned to the Premiere project and exported the movie as MPEG2 for Blu-ray, using the high-quality 1440x1080 preset. I imported this file and the associated .wav audio file into a new Encore project (I was disappointed not to find the chapter markers here) and proceeded to create menus similar to those
from the original DVD project. Everything went fine until I checked the project and found that it exceeded the Blu-ray disc size: the projected build size was 25.61 Gb.
Now the file sizes were as follows:
The MPEG2 video file was listed in Windows Explorer as 23,035,133KB, which translates to about 23,588,000,000 bytes. The same file was listed in Encore as 21.9GB, which is itself a bit of a puzzle: even if the file were just under 21.95GB, rounding down to 21.9GB, this would be only about 23,569,000,000 bytes, so I would think the actual file size would have been rounded by Encore to 22.0GB. Incidentally, 7,582 seconds of video at the target bitrate of 25,000,000bps would come to about 23,694,000,000 bytes, so the 2-pass VBR was pretty close to the target.
The .wav audio file was listed by Windows Explorer as 1,421,502KB, which comes to about 1,456,000,000 bytes. It was listed in Encore as 1.3GB -- once again, I would expect Encore to have rounded the actual file size to 1.4GB.
In any case, the real audio plus video file sizes are just a bit too big for a 25,000,000,000-byte Blu-ray disc even if the sizes listed by Encore would just fit. So I decided to use Dolby audio at 192Kbps to reduce the audio to one-eighth of the size of the .wav file.
First I did this by specifying a transcode preset for the audio that included Dolby, rather than leaving it set to "Don't Transcode". A check of the project still showed that it exceeded the disc capacity, and initiating the Build process STILL SHOWED A PROJECTED SIZE OF 25.61 GB -- as if the Dolby transcoding were being ignored completely.
Next I transcoded the .wav file to see if this would change the size estimate. The transcode took some minutes (during which time no progress bar appeared in the transcoding progress panel). Finally the audio file was listed as "Transcoded", but a check STILL SHOWED 25.61 GB.
Finally I transcoded the .wav file to Dolby stereo at 192Kbps using Vegas Platinum + DVD, replaced my original audio file with this one on the timeline, and marked it "Don't Transcode". But a check STILL SHOWED 25.61 GB. The Dolby file was listed by Windows Explorer as 177,678KB, or about 182,000,000 bytes.
Now this certainly should have fit on a Blu-ray disc. It is slightly shorter than the third bit-budgeting example in the Encore manual, and it has no motion menus or slide shows. The video plus audio, both "Don't Transcode" assets, total about 23,770,000,000 bytes, well below the 24,500,000,000 bytes suggested in the manual to allow a "very conservative" 2% margin for overhead.
So I figured the size projections were erroneous and I ran the build. It produced a Blu-ray folder with total size 24.6GB, which translates to 26,414,000,000 bytes, or about 1,414,000,000 too many. Looking in the Blu-ray folder, I found that the main MPEG-2 TS file (named "00000") contained 25,814,922KB, or about 26,434,000,000 bytes.
So I ask Adobe and any expert participants in this forum for their help understanding the various problems men

I apologize for the length of the previous post -- I had to explain a lot so that you might understand what was going on. The editor chopped off the end of my message, which was to have been:
So I ask Adobe and any expert participants in this forum for their help understanding the various problems mentioned above, specifically:
    1. Why did the estimated file size come out so much greater than the sum of the known video and audio file sizes?
    2. Why did the estimated file size not change as PCM audio was replaced with Dolby?
    3. Why did the actual build file size come out so much different from the estimate?
    4. Is Adobe's stated "very conservative" margin of 2% in fact too small for Blu-ray?
    5. Why was there no progress bar when transcoding .wav audio to Dolby?
    6. Why did no chapter markers come over into Encore in the MPEG-2 Blu-ray file?
    7. Why were the file sizes in the Project panel of Encore, for the two "large" files, slightly smaller than they should have been?
Please excuse the length of this post, and thanks in advance for any help in solving these problems. I can certainly work
around them by encoding to a lower bitrate but I would prefer to address them directly.

  • I opened a new project with the same name as an existing project and it deleted my existing

Bad day on my part. I spent all day recording a song with Garageband. As I finished it, I exported it to iTunes (Thank God), closed garage band and listened to the song. Hearing that it had several seconds at the beginning that were silence and not edited out I opened a new Garageband project under the same project name as the previous one and it erased everything the previous project had. Leaving me with no file. No project. No memory of the initial project. Any clues or am I SOL?

the OS should have asked if you wanted to replace the old file with this one. if it did not, perhaps you saved this file in a different folder and the old one still exists? You could try a spotlight search on your entire hard drive to see if both files exist.
if you did replace the old with the new, the only real hope is that you have a backup (perhaps you use Time Machine?)
    SchilbAaron wrote:

if that's the _only_ issue, not completely out of luck. you could drop the audio file back into a new GB project and export an exact length:

(Let the page FULLY load. The link to your answer is at the top of your screen)
Note: if you compressed the export (mp3/acc) you'll be double compressing the file and losing a lot of musical information, but it may be better than losing a One-Time piece of work.
an alternate method would be to use an Audio Editor to cut out the silence. i'm not sure that this would save any quality, i think you'll still be double compressing the file, but it's something else to try, and listen to, to make a decision on which is better:

Please please help me ! iMovie keeps crashing everytime I try to work on a project, it has happened before, so I deleted everything and it seemed to work but now its back, this is my final year Uni project and its in on Monday ... any help would be soooo appreciated !!

With regard to the HD Questions:
1.- You can copy the entire 40GB hard drive main folder (if you cam is a HG-10, it will be named "AVCHD"), and that way you have the original video stored wherever you want. In the future, you can get that folder from a hard drive or mounted as a disk image, and iM08 will think it is a camcorder and let you import again.
2.- AVCHD gets converted to Apple Intermediate Coded (AIC) because AVCHD is not meant for "editing", but for storage and transfer. Now on AIC you can edit frame-specific, without killing your CPU. It is "good" that it gets converted.
3.- Once you have processeD with iM08, and exported into AppleTV, you could erase everything, including the event, project, and appleTV file from your computer, as long as the file is in the actual AppleTV set-top box, and you do not erase it from there while syncing, you should be able to see it. That way you will save storage/disk space, because you are right, the AIC file is very large.
However: You must understand, that if you need to recreate this AppleTV final file, you will have to start over, getting it from the Copied hard drive, import into iM08, create the project, and export to AppleTV, AGAIN, so you pick which one you erase, based on how much you need this file.
As per you SD question, I do not use DV format, so I AIN'T GOT NO IDEA.

  • Exporting and importing projects and DCs

We are not blessed with the JDI, and I am in a situation whereby I would like to take a project from one machine and import it into another.
I tried this by exporting to a ZIP file, but when I try to import it, I have to create a new project in the target system, then import the ZIP file into that. When I do that it does not seem to preserve the original structure of the project.
I noticed that there are many different formats in which the projects can be exported. Do any of these allow me to export the project and import it, preserving the internal structure of the project, ideally without creating a project in the target system first?
    Kind Regards,
    Tony.

If you are working with the same version of Developer Studio on both PCs you can just copy the whole file structure of the project from your workspace to the workspace of the other PC.
Then, in developer studio of the second PC, choose "import existing project", and browse to the root folder of the project.
This should work, but keep in mind that eventually you will face versioning problems as you will make changes on both PCs...

  • Hyperlinks to pdf files not working when project is exported out as SWF and uploaded to server

    hI all
I'm using CS5 and i have hyperlinks to pdf files in my indesign project. However when i export to SWF, although the links work locally, they do not work when i upload all the relevant folders and files and test it from a server the links to the pdfs can not be found, the error messages indicates its looking for the files on my hard drive. I have also noticed that if i copy all the relevant folders and files and exported swf to a different directory and then launch swf from there the links do not work there either.
Other than seperately uploading each pdf indvidually on to the server and then creating a hyperlink to it from the local indesign project i don't know what else to do.
    Any advice much appreciated.

I have your same problem, but didn't consider uploading the PDFs and then linking to them. I'm willing to try it. Let me know if you ever found a better way, ok?
    Thanks.

  • Import  and export of a project.

    Hi,
I want to know the steps of import and export of a project.
    1.I am using DTR.
2.I selected a track, after that a SC.
3.There are a lot of DCs.
4.Now i am to select some DCs.
5.there are five DCs that makes an application.
    Questions:
1.How i am to create the application in WD prespective??
2.After creation application in WD, how i am to deploy the application(with all DCs)??

    Hi,
Right click on the DCs which you want to get in the IDE and select Create Inactive Project.
If it prompts for the dependencies select them.
Once this is done u will be able to see the project in the WD perspective.
Now right click on the DC and select Development Component -> Build .
    then Development Component -> Deploy.
If its there are any errors related with hard references deploy those DCs first and try.
    Regards
    Ayyapparaj.

  • Import-Export of track add some old projects and files.

We want to copy one NWDI track to new one.
When we Forward one track to to created new one, and open projects in Development Studio,
many old projects and files appeared, thatis not visible if to open old track in Studio.
So question is - how to export one track so it would appear in studio same way, but not "open all old existed" way?
As well very interested reason why so happens ?
    thanks

    Hi Vladimir,
I am not sure I fully understand your question, but if you'd like to copy a track to an other one, then I can suggest you to go for replication. This way you can keep the whole version history as well.
Replicating a Track into a Different DTR Repository (despite the title of this article I was confirmed by the development support that you can also use this procedure to replicate into the same DTR, not only into a different one)

    Thank you!

  • *** Can I archive and export a self-contained DVDSP project?

I think I'm having trouble with the burner on my tower so I would like to try my current project on my other tower. I would rather not rebuild the project, so is there a way to archive and export the project as a self-contained file so it will open up on another machine and I won't have to re-link everything?
    Thanks in advance.

Nope, no way to back up project like that. If you make folders though and then with the Project right beneath the root folder and other folders beneath it, then copy the entire folder over, it will relink. Take a look here

  • Should I keep Events and Projects after Exporting my edits?

When I finish editing a video I export it, usually at Large 960x540, or sometimes HD, (even though my camera doesn't do HD) to my hard drive. I make a fair few movies, and often need to burn them to disc/dvd, which I can then do by going back into iMovie and simply exporting to DVD.
The problem now is that my iMovie events and Projects are taking up so much space, so my question is - does burning an exported file to DVD result in a lower quality outcome than burning a project directly to DVD? I'm basically assessing the feasibility of deleting all of the stuff out of iMovie and just keeping my final exports?
    Thanks, Dan

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. however, it seems that your events are taking up too much HD space. External HDs are cheap these days and you could sill save the raw footage on an external HD, There are various ways to migrate it there so that iMovie still recognizes the sources of the project, even when the sources (event clips) are stored on an external HD.
I would NOT have/use a DVD as my permanent record of a movie, DVD is just too degraded. HOwever if you really want to rid yourself of the events and open up space, you could export your movie (as you have done) into a Quicktime movie. I have found those look as good (almost or just as good) as the imovie project pre-export. THAT file you could STORE anywhere, on your HD, on a flash memory , or burn on a DVD (as a storage medium, not converted to a DVD) and you will then have a good to excellent version of your movies.
The projects take up little space, they are just information of where to find the events music etc, it is the Events that take up space. SO I would buy an external large HD and move them there, or if not, I would make sure before i trash the events that I have a good looking exported AT version of my movies (share large or HD as you mentioned).

  • Premiere Pro project setup and exporting 16x9 to 4:3 letterbox

I need to export a 16x9, 720/30p CS3 project, for final viewing on a 4:3 projector in letterbox. *This project is about to kick off with a VERY short deadling and the shooters keep changing their mind about whether they're going to shoot in 720/30p or 720/60p. I need to plan for both to be safe. How will this effect things in my original 16x9 project setup if they give me both 720/30p and 720/60p video? And what about exporting for letterbox viewing in 4:3 if this occurs? I mean, if I start a project in 720/30p with CS3 and they bring me 720/60p video as well as 720/30p video, will I have to start a new project and start editing everything all over again, and vice versa? Also, how will this effect my final letterboxed 16x9 product? **I also have to provide this to the customer in 16x9 DVD format.
