Project chugging unbelievably slow when making changes

Hey all.
I'm working on a DVD demo reel, and I've got this 3D thing going on as the intro to the DVD.

I have a group of groups that's basically a fan out as the camera moves backwards of what will be various video assets, currently occupied by still picture placeholders, and then I have a group that is text with some fake 3D effect going on.
When I started the project, everything was running smoothly and fast. Now, even though the video preview plays at somewhat reasonable speeds, it takes FOREVER just to make a change.
If I apply the simplest behavior to one of my layers, I get the spinning beach ball for at least 10 seconds! I'm on a quad 2.66 Ghz with 11GB of Ram! What the ****! Once Motion thinks about the change I make to my timeline, then I can scroll through the project with ease, without any chugging. Its only when I make a change or apply a behavior or filter or even just changing a numerical value in an input box that it stalls. This is REALLY slowing me down. This chugging happens even when I disable most of my CPU intense layers. It doesn't seem to be related to what's visible or hidden.
Any thoughts?

I suspect the interactive slowdown you're experiencing may have something to do with having your preview thumbnails turned on.
Motion must build and scale each of those images individually each time you pause since they reflect the frame you’re parked on. Each preview image must be imaged for that layer alone, then resized for the thumbnail. Text thumbnails can be particularly render intensive.
To turn off thumbnails, go to the dropdown menu to the upper left of your layers palette:

Disco Plus - hangs when making changes to reports with lots of worksheets

Have run into this several times and the problem seems to go away sometimes on its own and then reappear at a later date.
Have a report that contains 11 worksheets. Can run any of the worksheets with no issues. However, when making a change to any worksheet, Disco hangs on the edit screens and I eventually receive the message "Contact with the Discoverer server has been lost. To continue your work, please restart Discoverer Plus. If this problem persists, please contact your Oracle Application Server administrator" I have tried restarting Disco Plus several times over the course of several days and still the same issue. I have no problems making changes to this same report through Disco Desktop.
I have also tried moving out the individual worksheets from this report as separate reports and they work fine and can be updated with no issues. This seems to only be a problem when there are many worksheets within 1 workbook.
Would appreciate any assistance.

We have 30,000 employees in our company so i sympathise completely!
You shouldn't need to separate each worksheet and make the change separately. The problem we experience is only in Discoverer Plus. I think it has something to do with the memory allocation on the server, which Plus must use. In Desktop we've found that reports like that are fine. They may take a while to save but in terms of editing reports its ok, because the memory on the machine is being used. If you're having problems in Desktop i'd check your PC spec.
I wouldn't say its a program error, not enough memory on the server more like, particularly as you're saying that sometimes you can't do anything and then other times it all works fine. Have you got lots of Discoverer Plus users in your company? If so try coming into work a little earlier and try it then or at the end of the day. If lots of people are running reports its going to slow down.
It could also be that the DBAs haven't allocated enough memory as DBAs generally don't like Discoverer. They love to blame database/server performance problems on Discoverer. We proved them wrong. On one occasion they blamed a major outage on a report that I was running. It was a big report. But they ran traces, plugged in their diagnostics stuff and got me to run the report. It showed up as this tiny blip, they were so embarassed!!
They just need to intelligently configure stuff, build a good data warehouse etc. I use the word stuff because I don't really know much about servers, warehouses, LPARs etc etc. I do think that quite a few DBAs don't embrace Discoverer because they see it as a hindrance to their jobs. If I was keeping a database up and running I wouldn't want cheeky business users 'playing around' with massive data extracts on my turf!
We have found that sometimes its easier to write a report from scratch in plus than editing it. When you make a change it takes longer to apply it, especially when adding a sort or changing formats. The annoying thing about formatting for us is that we have to use corporate colours, and desktop doesn't do hex values so all our formatting is done in plus.

Need help with an error message when making changes to an IMAP account

I have several IMAP accounts in my Mac Mail. Today when I tried to edit the, "Full Name" associated with the account I got an error message that said:
Invalid Directory
The account path /Users/kristen/Library/Mail/[email protected]@host365.ISPhost.com is already being used by the account "Silver"
Did I somehow corrupt something? I'm not sure why making this small change to the full name would cause such an error. Please help.

stop() forcibly kills a thread. You shouldn't use this method because if the thread is in a critical section of code, you can cause data corruption or deadlock.
Instead, if you need to stop execution from another thread, invoke the interrupt() method.

Google Calendar keeps loading when making changes - doesn't happen with Chrome.

When I fill in information on Google Calendar edit page (and add or try to change, save or delete an entry, it, it says loading but nothing is happening. If I use Chrome, not Firefox, I have no problem. this is a relatively new occurane as it didn't happen a while ago as Ive been using Firefox since its inception.

Why Is Dreamweaver CS4 Shutting Down When Making Changes In Code View?

Hi,
When in Code View, and trying to make a change to such, Dreamweaver is automatically shutting down. Heck, I can't even press Enter while in Code View without it shutting down.
I had this problem before, and a friend suggested holding down the Shift key while restarting DW. It worked at that time, but that suggestion is not working now.
I've tried restarting the computer, repairing disk permissions, and still having the same problem.
Does anyone have a remedy for this?

Yes, I am on a Mac.
The application Dreamweaver quit unexpectedly.
Don't have any DW extensions.
Deleted the plist files, and still had the same problem.
Found another DW pref file. Deleted that, and it works.

Adobe Acrobat Pro 11.0.10 crashing when making changes and saving on Mac OSX 10.9.5

When editing and saving a pdf file, Adobe Pro 11.0.10 crashes. We have this installed on an iMac with OSX 10.9.5. Anyone else experiencing this? Have done the usual unistall and reinstall, updated with latest patch, happens on and off, intermittently.

Error when Saving FR Report from Studio when Making Changes from Client PC

We get the following error when trying to save a report when using FR Studio from a Client PC: *"Expecting a transferable end, but received -4352: 2067198, expected: -4113, <-4098>, 8074 -4098"*. We do not get this error if we so a Save As instead of a Save.
If we use FR Studio while remoted into the FR server, we do not get this error.
Any idea what may be the cause of this error message?

Photoshop CC version - freezing when making changes

I have CC version - working in Photoshop - any changes keep freezing on screen - I reset the tools, I have restarted the program, tried file in 32 & 64 bit - any suggestions?

Thanks but didn't seem to help - example: simply changing a line of type to BOLD it will show the last few letters bold - to actually see it I have to slightly move the line or press 'esc', I reset the 'essentials' setting too hoping that might help.
I'm wondering if I should delete and reinstall? I'm on the latest version.

Mail app crashing when making changes to accounts

I've recently upgraded my OS from 10.5 to 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.
I use Mail app and have two accounts; 'work' and 'personal'. If I go the Mail Preferences and make the 'personal' account inactive Mail crashes and I get a warning message saying; 'Mail quit unexpectedly'. If I go to Mail Preferences and make the 'work' account inactive I can not close the Mail Preferences window.
I also installed Rosetta. I understand this only works when needed with legacy Power PC applications, so I presume this isn't causing the problem.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I've only just had some time to look at this. I've reinstalled 10.6.3 from my CD and got the same problem. I've upgraded to 10.6.8. Same problem. I've created a 'test' user and logged into that and created my two email accounts. Same problem. I've closed all other open applications and same problem.
Mail works fine, but when I come to un-enable an account Mail either crashes or the Mail Preferences window won't shut down (the account is un-enabled but I can't close the stupid Preferences window).
I've got an Apple Tech support person phoning me at 12. I'll let you know how I get on.

You might want to look at/consider the following:
1) Use of parallel option for index creation (would require
partitioning on base table).
2) As per prior suggestion, look at memory, you may want to go
much higher if you can afford it (look at both default and max
parameters for memory)
3) Be careful of some defaults for indexing, we've found that
theme indexing was on by default. If data does not need to be
filtered you might want to specify NULL FILTER for preference,
specify not to Index Themes, set stemmer to NULL (if this meets
your needs) and/or review your stopword lists.

Aperture 1.5 Extremely slow when exporting images

Has anyone else found Aperture 1.5 very slow when exporting versions. It took about 25 minutes to export 9 images (12mp Eos 5D files) as full resolution Jpegs. They had various afjustments applied to them, but the length of time to expot seemed rediculously long. I don't recall this task taking as long in previous versions.
Does anyone know of anything that might be slowing this down? Would turning previews off help - although they had finished processing before I started. Help in this matter wouyld be appreciated

I'm experiencing this same behavior. Exporting is ridiculously slow. Actually editing the image doesn't seem so bad, but I guess it's just doing a preview at this point and not committing the change? Seems odd as I browse back to an image I've changed and the preview is instantly up with all changes applied...
I'm playing with the trial version now, I'd really like to buy it, but the speed is completely unaccaptable on export, or large file operations.
iMac g5 1.8 ghz, ALS, ATI 9600 card. 2 Gig of ram. Nothing else running.
Photoshop is much, much faster, even batching. I realize aperture uses GPU heavily, and my GPU is not up to snuff, but when making changes to an image ... it's not bad! It's a little sluggish at times, but most changes are near real time. It's just exporting and importing that takes far far far too long.
Any possibility of a preference to offload more work to the CPU? Lightroom, Photoshop, etc do just fine, but Apertures library management is something I'd really like to purchase and keep!

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

The numbering in (Contents) format keeps changing when making PDF's from Word 2007 ? Using Acrobat 9 Pro Extended.

The issue is that I have made up a contract in Word.
The second page has a list of all contents of the contract.

When we convert to PDF some of the numbers change. Example 20 becomes 201.

In the top corner of iTunes is a small icon with a down arrow, click on that and choose 'show menu bar'.
Then on the view menu which now appears choose 'show sidebar'
