Project created on Mac moved to PC

User Scenario - Create a Premiere Pro CS6 project using a Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle capture card on a Mac OSX machine.  Edit the sequence to my liking on the Mac.  Copy the project and all its files to a PC (also using CS6 but obviously the PC version) and try to open it there.
First error: "The preset used by one or more sequences in this project requires third-party components that could not be located" .  I thought this would be easy enough to fix by loading the Blackmagic Intensity drivers etc on my PC even though the capture card isn't really there.  That didn't work though.  Says it is using defaults.  Maybe this isn't a problem but I can't tell because of the second error.
Second error; "The selected file cannot be linked because its type (audio) does not match the original file's type (audio/video)"
The clips were originally captured via the Mac OSX Mountain Lion Premiere Pro CS6 video capture process using the Blackmagic presets in a .mov format.
Any thoughts?

Did you ingest any HDV or XDCAM footage on the Mac side? By default, these do not have the third party QuickTime components you might need on the Windows side.
The second problem might have to do with the first.

  • Problem opening PrE 9 project created on Mac in Windows

Hi, I recently migrated from a Mac to Windows 7, and am having problems opening my project files on the Windows computer. I created several PrE9 projects on my Mac, but now I need to open some of these files on a PC with Windows 7. I get the error message "The project is not compatible with current version of Premiere Elements." I have successfully opened other CS5 project files (AI, PS) on both platforms. This is the first I've seen Adobe files open on Mac but not PC.
So, assuming this is going to be impossible, can I export from the Mac version of PrE to Windows? Is cross-platform collaboration impossible with PrE 9? That doesn't seem likely. What am I missing?
I have some title animations that I created on the Mac that I would really like to reuse in new Windows projects moving forward. I hope I don't have to recreate them from scratch!
    Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately, project files created on the Mac platform are not compatible with the Windows version of the product and vice versa.
You can't work on the same project file on both a Mac and a PC. Sorry.

    I have a MacBook Pro , Model Identifier MacBook Pro8,2 , MAC OX S 10.7.4
I noticed that if I open Final Cut Projects created on other/older models MacBook Pro Laptops or MacPro Desktops, the fonts used in the previously created FCP projects, change their font spacing! which distorts the look of the Text that was written, by oevrlapping on other things that were put & present on the screen.. Another similar probelm is that the Vector shaped used for example to highlight certain words or shapes, also change their position on the screen so that they no longer highlight exact things that we once used these vectors to highlight or outline... Anyone knows how to solve this problem please?? I made sure that the same fonts are available in the Library in both old and newer computers...
    thanks in advance..

You might want to take your question to the FCP forum - if you copied all fonts to your Library>Fonts folder and restarted they should be recognized by all applications. I know that this works for Adobe products, anyway.

  • How do I get my Mac to recognize external drive filled with 5 projects, created at Apple Store?

How do I get my Mac to recognize external drive filled with 5 projects, created at Apple Store? I created 6 hrs worth of projects on computer in apple store with my external. came home my computer did not recognize it at all. went back to apple, they said oh click the news reel bottom left that will do it, came back home and nope....not recognizing it, in fact it says no events exist on this disc. I want to get the 5 projects and put up on vimeo tonight. ugh.

    Hi Tom,
I'm so impressed with how you help everyone solve their problems. I will do my best here, but my husband will be home soon and knows how this large external is formatted.
How late do you all work there? I'm on east coast. Is the screen shot you wanted? I opened up external and
    this is what I see.

  • Open Project Created On a Mac with Windows Version?

I filmed and created a video of my friend's rap concert since he is a rapper with Premiere CS4 and Encore CS4 to make the DVD.  I created this project on my Mac, but now I am trying to finish it on my Windows 7 PC which has the CS3 Master Collection as I no longer have the CS4 Collection on my Mac because I borrowed it from someone.  I am trying to open the files on the PC and Encore says I cannot because it was created with the Mac version of Encore.  Premiere says the file contains corrupted data!  How can I fix this?  If it cannot be fixed, I'll need to try to obtain the software again from the person and Adobe also needs to support cross-compatibility within their applications!

Within a few parameters, the answer is yes. So long as you are going from older to newer versions of PrPro, most should be fine.
There are a few considerations: there are more Transitions and Effects in the PC version, than in the Mac version. This is a LIST of the "missing" Transitions and Effects. This was for CS4, IIRC, but will be similar for CS5.
If you have any 3rd party Effects, or Transitions, you will need those in your CS5 on the Mac. They also must be 64-bit to work with CS5. This might be an issue.
Those are the only things that I can think to warn you about, but they CAN be considerations.
    Good luck,

  • Export and import imovie project between two mac- Help

    Hi,
I am working on a imovie project in my Macbook and now want to transfer the unfinished project  to my friend's Macbook so he can edit and add some songs.
What I did was click "Export Movie" and then save the movie to my destop- formated - name.m4v, draged the saved movie file to USB and transfer to my friend's Macbook. To import the file into iMovie in his labtop, I created a new project and just drag the file into the event library.
It turned out that I imported a movie vedio instead of a project and I couldn't edit it like I did in my Mac. (add things inbetween clips, change photos, change sounds, music, transitioning etc)
Is there any way in which I can transfer the iMovie project to another macbook, not appear as a vedio but will appear as a project when I actually continue work on it like I did in the original Macbook?
    Thank you.

    Moving Event's and Project's
    Hi
    Moving Event's and Project's
Connection - Either connect one Mac in Target mode to the other via FireWire. Or use an external hard disk !
(Target-Mode - Start one Mac e.g. laptop - BUT keep T-key down during full up-start - Now a FW-symbol is jumping around the screen and it will work as an external hard disk when connected to the other Mac)
    A. The External Hard Disk - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work for Video. UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange works for most other things but not for Video whatever program is used (iMovie or FinalCut)
    B. Should be a FireWire one as USB/USB2 performs badly to me and especially when filling up
    C. Do never Move or Alter any folder named
    • iMovie Event's - or -
    • iMovie Project's
on DeskTop/Finder - as this will result in iMovie losing connections to them and repair can be anything from hard to impossibly
    D. Moving and Copying must be done within iMovie application and Events to Events - and - Project's to Project's.
    E. Moving Project's to Event's - Do not work for me - I have to export project as a QuickTime movie then Import this into Events.
Event's window can show two faces
    Like this
    or like this
from one hard disk Event - You can move it to the other hard disk
You can not (at least not me) move Event to Project or other way around only
Event to Event and Project to Project

  • IDVD burning one project on multiple macs? where are project contents?

How do I burn one project on multiple macs? I have a idvd project I created in keynote, added music to it in Garageband, exported to quicktime, and now is in iDVD burning just fine. However I have tons of these dvd's to make, I would like to put all my mac's to work.
last night i tried to share the file, and it is just an alias when i drag it over from the macbook it was created on to my imac. the file says it is in use and locked, since the macbook that created it is burning it. If I wanted to brun on the imac, I had to wait until the macbook was done.
is there a way around this? What if I copied all files I used to make the idvd project to my imac or any computer i wanted to burn on? woudl it hen allow two macs to be burning the same project?
I figured I could do this just like on my PC, drag the file over and voila...no such luck, its like if i had dragged a shortcut over to another pc...if the first one is using the file, its locked. Basically how do i get to the actual contents of the project, so I can also bring them over and hopefully it will allow me to burn on multiple macs at the same time?
my next solution if that didn't work was to start copying dvd's using popcorn on the other macs while the macbook continues burning through idvd.
Any opinions on how i can duplicate a dvd fast...need alot of copies!

Also as to where the files are.

  • Problems using projects created in older versions of iMovie

I have a few projects created in older versions of iMovie, as far back as version 2 as well as more recent versions. Most of those projects are finished and I want to burn them to DVD again, but a couple of them could bear a little touch up editing. These projects are precious movies of our kids and hard to replace. Although I could probably find the original video, I put many hours of work into creating these projects.
In any case, when I open up an old project, I get a warning that goes something like this: "The project was saved with an older version of iMovie. Opening it in this version will cause it to be upgraded, which will make it unreadable by older versions. Are you sure you want to open it?"
I clicked okay, thinking "sure, I don't need to play it in an older version. I have iMovie HD."
However, now when I play my old iMovie project, there are a few problems. For example, one original movie's title was over black. When I play the movie, I get a completely white screen and no title. Also, in another movie, when viewing the movie in full screen, the transitions were replaced by a black screen (although the transitions were there when I viewed the movie in the iMovie window). Basically, there are problems cropping up here and there.
I need to do some more experimenting with all this to more fully understand how many problems there are. I don't know if the projects I opened in iMovie HD are now "broken" since I "upgraded" them with iMovie HD (when prompted to save the project's changes when quitting, I said NO, don't save changes).
I don't know if I should use older versions of iMovie to view and burn to DVD these projects. (I still have iMovie 2 and 3, but not 4 or 5. I don't know if older versions would even work on my Quad G5 with OS 10.4.7.) I also don't know if the older versions of iMovie would work with the current version of iDVD. How can I tell which version of iMovie was originally used for a given project? How can I find iMovie 4 or 5 if I need it?
I also wonder if projects I make with iMovie HD can be opened by future versions of iMovie, or if I should export them as Quicktime or something to be safe.
As I start to look into this further, I would appreciate any comments, suggestions, and experiences that you may be able to offer. I need to get these movies back to their former selves, when they looked good!

quitting, I said NO, don't save changes).
Excellent! That should leave you in pretty good shape. More below.
I don't know if I should use older versions of iMovie
to view and burn to DVD these projects. (I still have
    iMovie 2 and 3, but not 4 or 5. I don't know if older
versions would even work on my Quad G5 with OS
    10.4.7.)
The old versions of iMovie will run just fine in today's OSX. (But not iMovie 2 if it was the version that ran in Classic instead of Mac OSX.)
I run versions 2,3,4,5 and 6 today. Problems are minimal.
I also don't know if the older versions of
iMovie would work with the current version of iDVD.
That's not a problem unless your old iMovie projects contain chapters. If you tell iMovie 3 to create a new iDVD project, it might not work. You might not be able to transfer the chapter information to the newer version of iDVD.
(I just tested iMovie 3 to iDVD 6 and everything worked just fine.)
Except for iMovie 2, all old versions of iMovie stored a small QuickTime reference movie in the project folder. If you can't get an old version of iMovie to play nice with iDVD, drag that movie into the iDVD window.
How can I tell which version of iMovie was originally
    used for a given project?
Drop the project file (discussed below) onto the TextEdit icon in the Dock. The version of iMovie that last saved the project is shown in the first few lines of the project file.
iMovie 5 used an entirely different project file format, the pList format. The top of the project file will look like this in TextEdit:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
How can I find iMovie 4 or
    5 if I need it?
    eBay?
I also wonder if projects I make with iMovie HD can
be opened by future versions of iMovie, or if I
should export them as Quicktime or something to be
    safe.
We can never assume any new version of iMovie will be able to understand all features of a older project. It's always smart to make a backup.
There can be problems Apple can't anticipate. There may be third-party software used to create titles, transitions and special effects, plug-ins not installed with the new version or (more often, incompatible). The fonts installed on our Mac may have changed too. There's lots of features that can't be anticipated. I've never had a problem converting projects, but I never use third-party add-ons and special fonts.
As I start to look into this further, I would
appreciate any comments, suggestions, and experiences
that you may be able to offer. I need to get these
movies back to their former selves, when they looked
    good!
My guess is it should be possible to restore the projects back to their original state.
Note that when imovie 5/6 converts an older project, it does NOT create a true iMovie HD project. Instead of creating an iMovie package, it retains the project FOLDER format. It places new iMovie HD elements inside the old project folder instead of converting it to a package.
When converting the project it changes the old project file name to "Sample Project Name.iMovie2Project", then creates a NEW project file with the plist format, having the name "Sample Project Name.iMovieProj". (There may NOT be the .iMovieProj extension.) When you save the new project, it adds a new project file "Sample Project Name.~iMovieProj". Note the tilde. The tilde file is a backup of the project file as it was when last saved in iMovie HD.
For our purposes, ignore the iMovie HD project files. We'll use the file ".iMovie2Project" to restore the project. (The extension is the same for all old versions of iMovie, not just iMovie 2.)
    • In the Finder, Duplicate the entire project folder. Work on the copy.
    • Open the project folder in the Finder.
    • Discard the "Cache" folder, the "Shared Movies" folder, the "Audio Waveforms" folder and the two iMovie HD project files. (Some of those items may not yet exist yet because you didn't save the converted project.)
    • Drop the "Sample Project Name.iMovie2Project" file onto the TextEdit icon in the Dock to get the version. Close it.
    • Remove the ".iMovie2Project" extension, if you want.
    • Launch that version of iMovie. Drop the "Sample Project Name.iMovie2Project" file icon on the iMovie icon in the Dock. With luck, the project should open normally. It's possible any third-party plug-ins used to create the project may not be available. If they aren't available, there might still be problems.
    • Move your unconverted projects to folders that say which version of iMovie created them. To open them in the future, drop the project icon on the appropriate version of iMovie.
If all this fails, there is another way to do the editing you want. That is to import the project.mov file that's inside the converted project folder to a new iMovie HD project. That will deliver the video and audio of the original project as a single clip. Use that to re-edit the project. The name of the movie is "Sample Project Name.mov".
(The movie is a QuickTime reference movie, with no video and audio of its own, just pointers to the files in the Media folder. So long as the Media folder hasn't changed, it can play the original project as last saved.)
Importing the project.mov won't work with iMovie 2 projects, however, for iMovie 2 didn't store a project.mov file in the project folder.
Even if you end up importing the project.mov, you still may want to "unconvert" the project as described above.
Hope I haven't skipped a step. Let me know if you bump your head on something.

  • Audio goes out of sync when i open project on diff macs

i have an iMovie project created on an iMac saved to an external.
I go to open the project up on my macbook and the audio is out of sync.
I go back to my iMac with the same project and it works just fine.
I'm a bit confused because both macs use Mac OS X 10.6.4 and iMovie 8.0.6
what other differences might there be?
any input is appreciated as I'd love to work on projects while out in the field!

Try exporting the iMovie project as a single full quality dv format quicktime file.
I use iMovie6 HD and this is my usual procedure that works well.
Make the movie in iMovie, will involve many separate clips. When finished, export (share) as a single full quality dv format quick time file. When I have an hours worth of smaller projects, I create a new iMovie project and import all of the quicktime .dv files for each separate short project. I add chapter markers in this project, then share with iDVD. I then burn an hours worth of stuff at best quality and distribute to family and friends.
iDVD seems to work better with iMovie source that has fewer clips.
BTW: Are you having problems with standard def or hi def iMovie source. Another part of my procedure is that I take the raw tapes and download the entire thing into one iMovie project. I don't edit or change the footage at all, just want to archive to DVD for posterity. In this case, I want to share the iMovie project with iDVD directly. This has worked OK for standard def projects, but my first hi def project (1080i) that I tried, the sound was out of sync. To fix this, I had to create a regular DV widescreen iMovie project, and drag all the clips into it from the HD project. It took over an hour for my humble mac mini to convert the files, but I was then able to share with iDVD and the finished DVD worked ok.
    Hope this helps.

  • Project Server 2013 - New - Project, creates groups at the root site level, Server is in Project Server Permission mode

I created an Enterprise Project in PWA and moving up to the root site settings I see there was the four basic groups created there just for this project. This is not acceptable when there will be 500 projects on the server. Is there a setting to turn this
off. I guess we will rarely create projects with PWA, so I will see if creating a Project in Desktop has the same effect.  Still would like to understand why this is happening.  Thank you.
Site Provisioning settings are located under Central Administration -> Manage Service Applications -> Project Application Service -> Manage ->
    Project Site Provisioning Settings
Turning that off allows the group creation to cease.
Then PWA Settings -> Operational Policies -> Connected Sharepoint Sites
allows selective creation of a Project Site (Workspace)
This set up is perfect for what I require.

I assume that you're talking about the SharePoint security groups for each Project site? If so, then this is as designed. Each site can have different users, so this is absolutely necessary when you use SharePoint. If you do not want to create project sites
for your projects automatically, you have already discovered how to turn off automatic site creation.
If you turn off the Project application service, you disable Project Server. I don't think that is what you want to do. I don't understand your objection to the groups because if you are running in Project Server classic permissions mode, Project Server
manages the group membership for you.

  • Transfer iMovie 09 project to another Mac

I have started a school video project on my Mac and want to transfer the project, including all of the source clips, to another person's Mac for them to complete the project. Any suggestions?

I don't know if this is the "right" way...but I had to accomplish the exact same thing. And it worked for me. If you have an external hard drive...skip to the end!
I made a folder on my desktop. With 2 more folders inside, labeled "iMovie Projects" and "iMovie Events", and you might need one more called "iMovie original from speed conversion, if you adjusted the clips in your project.
I then went to the Finder, and copied the specific "iMovie Project" file, and corresponding "iMovie Event" file to the folders I had created, and burned to DVD. (I also included the mp3 of the soundtrack from my iTunes, in case I would need it)
Took disc to my friend's house...copied the contents onto her desktop, and then put the appropriate files into her Imovie, within her project and events folders, and all worked like a charm. I had to put the mp3 of my soundtrack into her Itunes, since for some reason, it wasn't attached to my Project. But once in itunes, it was ok.
I'd be interested to hear if someone has a better way, but at least this worked.
A flash drive would work too I suppose, and if you have an external HD, it gets MUCH easier, as you just mount the drive, and from WITHIN your Imovie, you drag your project file to the external's icon that shows in Imovie and it allows you to copy your whole project, with ALL corresponding event files. This is the "right" way to move a project! I had to be unconventional, since I wanted to give my friend the movie I made, and didn't have an extra hard drive to use!

  • How do you Move an iMovie '08 Project to Another Mac?

What's the best way to move an iMovie '08 project to another Mac on my network? (Both Macs have iMovie '08.) Specifically, is there an easy way to move a project and the event containing the imported clips in one step?
Often, I'll do work on my Intel MacBook then transfer stuff to my Intel iMac for long term storage. In iMovie '08, I tried various imports and exports and nothing worked so well. For example, when you drag and drop a project file from one computer to another the clips don't come with it. You can play the movie but the clips in the media browser are grayed-out.
There ought to be something like the archive routine that packages up everything and lets you put it on another computer for further editing.
    Thanks!

I would like to know the same thing but not for another Mac... just another user. Should be almost the same procedure right?
My iMovie '08 is crashing like crazy! I just want to get the projects into iMovie using a fresh user and hope that fixes it. I can see where copying/moving preferences into the library of the other user (along with duping the projects in the movies folder) might succeed in opening the project in another user. I'm just afraid of moving bad prefs or something.

  • Playing DVDs created from Mac the Ripper...workflow?

I've used Mac the Ripper to copy a DVD I have. What is the workflow on how to make that file folder that has Audio_TS and Video_TS (created from Mac the Ripper) onto another DVD AND make it self-play once it gets inserted into the player?
    Thanks!

If you have rights/permission to copy the DVD, make a Disc Image then burn another copy from the Finder.
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/making_dvdcopies.html
Or, if the original disc isn't set for the track to be the "first play," you can use MPEG Streamclip to demux the audio and video, then use those files as assets in a new DVD-SP project for reauthoring.
Either way, I would not recommend using Mac the Ripper.

  • Sharing one project on 2 macs

    Dear All,
My husband and I have just started using Aperture and both have it installed on our iMacs (2 licenses). We have been editing around 1600 photos from a recent dive trip and decided to split the load doing half each. However we now want to combine both projects as one master project on my mac using the same keywords etc. I have tried exporting his project and then importing into my library but it will only come in as a separate project which means when I want to create a smart album with all the best photos so that I can order a book I can only do this from each project. Is there anyway of combing the two projects as one?

So you have two Projects, each with ~800 images in?
    Option 1
Make a blue Folder and put both Projects into it. Selecting the blue Folder will show all the images in both Projects, and any Smart Albums in the Folder will search through both Projects. Note that you won't be able to stack images from different Projects.
    Option 2
Select all the images in one Project and drag them into the top level of the other Project. This will copy all the Versions and Masters into one Project.
