Project file appears to be damaged - really, ALL of 'em?

Hi all, longtime editor, relatively new to Adobe PremierePro...
I'm working with a producer who's sending me his offline cuts...However, I have not successfully gotten a project file to open up yet, and I'm getting more than a little frustrated at the inability of the software to just open a project.
He's on whatever the current CC pay-per-month deal is...I've tried opening his projects in both CS5 and CS6 Premiere, to no avail...Not only can I not open up the project I need, but there are about half a dozen others in the drive he sent me, all of which I've tried, so I can't chalk it up to one corrupt project.
So can someone clue me in...what's so hard about opening a project across the various releases of Premiere? Is there some sort of magic here?

I don't think "backwards compatibility" is an issue here
It is because its fact and the reason you cant open current projects in past versions.
This is not one of those instances.
Well actually it is.
How many versions and ,updates do you think there have been between CS6 and current?
I dont know the answer but its many ...and more than one have not been backward compatible.
Tell me that the CC version of Premier is SO changed, SO different, and SO full of new, improved goodness...
Well..I am here to tell you that I believe it is a far superior NLE to CS6 now. I have ben delighted with what I call significant advances.
If it could be coded backwardly compatible..I am not a software engineer so have no idea.
Your issue is more about "subscription models" no matter which way you "paint" it.
Thats your right!

  • This file appears to be damaged..HOW?

    I type a lot of my stories and things in AppleWorks and I tried opening two of my files-but a window popped up that said "This file appears to be damaged and cannot be opened." How did this happen? I would really like to reopen this files so that I can edit them, but I don't know if I'm going to be able to do that. Please help ASAP.

    Whether Mac or Windows, a file can become damaged (or corrupt is another term). Sometimes the "may be damaged" message could be caused by something else such as drive volume corruption, a font used in the documents has gone belly-up or Appleworks application package corruption. First, believe the message that the two documents are actually damaged and go forward from there.
    As others mention, it is sometimes possible to open a corrupt file with another application. Find TextEdit in the Applications folder (ignore the icon you see elsewhere, such as in the Dock or on the desktop.). Then just drag and drop the file onto TextEdit. It may not open or it may open and show wierd stuff. Among the wierd stuff you might be able to find most or all of your text that you saved. Copy the text and paste it into a new, blank document of Appleworks.
    Now, here is some advice that I want you to take in the kindest possible way. When a document is important, make an extra copy of it and save it to some removable disk, such as a Zip disk or burned to a CD. If the document is VERY important, make backup copies on two different removable disks.

  • This file appears to be damaged and cannt be opened?!?!?!?!

    I bought an ibook G3 from ebay last year....and its been going good....until now....i write a lot of my stories on my ibook (that i hope will become novels) and i tried to open two of my files but the following message came up...."This file appears to be damaged and cannot be opened." Is there anyway I can reopen these files? Please help....

    Have you started up in OS 9 and tried opening them there?
    If that doesn't work, you may want to try posting in the AppleWorks Forum. If there is a way to retrieve the files, maybe someone there will know how to do it.

  • Every time I open my project, a duplicate project file appears

    Hello,
    Every time I open a project, let's say it's called Documentary 1 saved on my Desktop ....as soon as it opens in Adobe Premiere, Documentary 1_1 will appear on my Desktop, making a duplicate of the project.
    How do I turn this feature off? I have tons of projects, and it's frustrating that every time I open one, a duplicate is made. It's just making clutter on my hard drive and desktop that is annoying to constantly have to throw a project file away in the recycling bin.
    Thank you!
    Nicole

    Try launching from within Premiere using "OPEN"
    FWIW - I have a Projects Folder that contains all my PPRO Projects.  Its on a dedicated drive and not the Boot/ Applications  Drive.
    I assume Desktop would be on the Boot drive.

  • Upgrading from LR2 to LR5: Catalog file appears damaged.

    I upgraded from LR2 to LR5. I also moved files from an older mac to a new storage drive and am running LR5 on a new mac. When I try to import & open lrcat2 I get the message that "catalog file appears to be damaged."
    I tried optimizing lrcat2 on old computer but that didn't help. LR 2 runs fine on the old mac too. What is happening here??

    Hi,
    try to select all images and export the images as "new catalog" (if availiable in LR2, I do no know). You need not to export previews and images itself.

  • The project file is not bound to source control, but the solution contains source control binding information for it.

    This may be more of a SQL Server Management Studio question, but I couldn't find a SSMS forum...
    I've got a database solution that contains several projects.  They're just to keep track of changes to stored procedures, triggers, views, etc in a few databases I maintain.  There is a problem with two of the projects though.  No matter what I do, I can't seem to get them bound to source control right.  When I open the solution, I get:
    The project file is not bound to source control, but the solution contains source control binding information for it.
    With two options, use solution binding and remove solution binding.  If I keep the solution binding, everything works fine.  But it's really annoying to have to deal with every time I open the solution.  If I remove the solution binding, the projects are now unbound again.  If I try to fix them (using the change source control or Add Selected Projects to Source Control options under the File->source control menu), I just end up in the same situation.  I've even tried deleting the projects and re-creating them from scratch, then re-adding them to VSS.  If I open the solution files in a text editor I can see the SCC tags in every project, but these two.  Since I can't manually add the tags, and Management Studio itself only seems to want to bind them the wrong way, I'm getting really frustrated.
    Can anyone point me toward a way to bind these so they work like the rest?

    However, that does not appear to be the ONLY cause of the problem.  I am a single user and only using TFS2010 and SSMS2008R2.  My issue is that I wanted a solution file for each project so that they could managed independently, and a super-solution
    file that contained all projects, so that I could perform system-wide searches and cross-checks.
    I solved the problem by:
    1. Choosing the option to use solution binding, then
    2. Adding another project to the solution.  This forced the re-write of the solution file.
    3. Adding another script to the project.  This forced the re-write of the project file.
    4. Checking in all changes.
    5. Deleting the new script and the extra project,
    6 Checking in all changes.
    This appears to have solved the problem.

  • Using a JAR file as a project file

    My application allows the user to create projects. Previously, a project file was simply an XML file. Now, a project file needs to also contain many images.
    I thought it would be a good idea to simply use a JAR file as my project file.
    Since I've really never really worked with JAR files and the java.util.Jar package directly, I have a few questions.
    1) Would it be better just to simply store the images as binary in the XML file? I just spent a good amount of time making the XML file very readable so I thought it would be better to keep the images separate while still having a single "project" file.
    2) Is there anything inherently wrong with the way I'm working with the JAR file in the code below?
    Simple XML file:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE project [
      <!ELEMENT project (img+)>
      <!ELEMENT img EMPTY>
      <!ATTLIST img src CDATA #REQUIRED>
    ]>
    <project>
         <img src="blah.jpg"/>
    </project>
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.jar.JarFile;
    import javax.xml.parsers.*;
    import org.xml.sax.*;
    import org.xml.sax.helpers.DefaultHandler;
    public class LoaderTest {
        private String imageName;
        public LoaderTest() {
            InputStream i = null;
            JarFile jf = null;
            try {
                jf = new JarFile("project.jar");
                i = jf.getInputStream(jf.getJarEntry("project.xml"));
                // Here's my simple XML parser to load the project and images
                SAXParser parser = SAXParserFactory.newInstance().newSAXParser();
                parser.parse(new InputSource(i), new DefaultHandler() {
                    @Override
                    public void startElement(String uri, String localName, String qName, Attributes attributes) throws SAXException {
                        // Right now we only care about images
                        if (qName.equalsIgnoreCase("img")) {
                            imageName = attributes.getValue("src");
                // Load the image from the inputstream
                java.awt.image.BufferedImage img = javax.imageio.ImageIO.read(jf.getInputStream(jf.getJarEntry(imageName)));
                // Display the image in a JFrame
                javax.swing.JFrame f = new javax.swing.JFrame();
                f.setLayout(new java.awt.BorderLayout());
                f.setSize(800, 600);
                f.getContentPane().add(new javax.swing.JLabel(new javax.swing.ImageIcon(img)), java.awt.BorderLayout.CENTER);
                f.setDefaultCloseOperation(javax.swing.JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
                f.setVisible(true);
            } catch (ParserConfigurationException ex) {
                ex.printStackTrace();
            } catch (SAXException ex) {
                ex.printStackTrace();
            } catch (IOException ex) {
                ex.printStackTrace();
            } finally {
                // Do our best to close the input streams
                if (i != null) {
                    try {
                        i.close();
                    } catch (IOException ex) {}
                if (jf != null) {
                    try {
                        jf.close();
                    } catch (IOException ex) {}
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            new LoaderTest();
    }Thank you!

    1) I also think it's much better to keep your images separate from your XML, this prevents a lot of in case you just want to read XML data
    2) What's exactly going wrong here? For the project.xml, make sure it's not inside a directory within the JAR file, or else the variable i will be null. Otherwise it looks fine..

  • "unable to open project file" on external hard drive

    I see other users had this same issue, but I read all the relevant posts and they haven't helped me. basically, I created and saved a project (along with all scratch disks) on an external hard drive. then, when I closed the project and re-opened it, it was "unable to open project file." however, it looks like all the project files are still on the hard drive (capture scratch, autosave vault, etc.) so seems like this should be redeemable. what can I do?
    thank you in advance, you are angellic!

    What is the exact message? Try copying it to your computers system drive and opening it? What about in the Autosave vault? Look in there for the last backup, try opening that.

  • Project File Reload SCC Integration

    Hello,
    We have LabVIEW integrated with our source control system, using SCC.
    When we make a change to the project file, e.g. add a VI, this checks the project file out and applies the change. On occasion we get the message "The file <project file> has been changed on disk by an external action. You will need to reload then poject to reflect this change"; .e.g some has worked locally for a while and has gone to get the last version of the project from source control.
    To perform this reload we are having to exit LabVIEW and re-start it, otherwise we sometime get a locally cached version.
    Is there a better way of forcing it to reload, preferably automatically?
    Thanks, for the help
    Jon.

    jonnnnnnn wrote:
    In contrast with a VI, you get a popup box that asks you if you would like to revert to the disk version (which has just been extracted from source control) and loose you're changes, that would be OK as a sloution for the projectbut we never see that popup.
    Jon.
    Project present a larger scoping problem with trying to revert them. You could have many VI open from the project and those VI could be edited with unsaved changes or running. You could be connected to a target or performing other actions controlled by the project. Rather than causing loss of work by automatically attempting to reopen the project, that exercise if left to the user. There could be issue with trying to force shutdown running VIs and leaving resources uncleaned (if using hardware) and so forth. With VIs, the scope is much more limited and so we present the option to revert the file for you.
    The recommended process for dealing with this situation is to always get the latest version of the project before starting any development to make sure that it is up to date. You can then take advantage of a menu option on the project file itself - "Get Latest Version of All Files". This option will list all the files in the project including any new ones that you don't currently have and get the latest version of the files.

  • Why is FCP Studio saving my Autosave Vault files as FC Express project files?

    I have had FCPro Studio for some time now and haven't used my FC Express software for a long time, but somehow in the Autosave Vault folder, my project is being saved as a Final Cut Express Project File.  And if I try to open one of them it only produces a Error message.  How did this happen?  Is there someplace that remembers how I used to save FCE files and defaults to that or what?  I can't find anyplace in the Preferences or Settings that tell it how to save things.  Help if you can.  Thanks

    Thanks for the heads up Tom on Andy's idea.  I like what Andy recommended, as I see that it will probably do the job to right the problem, however, before I do it... I do have projects that I haven't finished in FCE and don't want them messed up if ALL files will now open as FCP.  What do I do to keep things separate OR would it be better to just upgrade those projects to FCP and finish them there.  It is definitely a better program. Will the FCE projects suffer any ill effects by now being FCP projects?  OR should I just finish them in FCE and how do I keep them as such if I do the Cmd I change for the other files that need to be changed?
    Thanks, Andy and Tom,
    Jon
    PS.  I changed ONE of the files that was from my FCP project and was being saved as a FCE project file and I DIDN"T change all, just the one.  This seems to be one way to keep all the other FCE project files as they should be.  I could just change one by one, only the Autosave Vault files in my FCP project that I need, and so preserve the projects that are FCE projects from changing.  First-is this a good work flow and Second-How do I get the Autosave Vault to, from now on - save my FCP project files AS FCP project files?
    Thanks

  • Can't find project files after upgrade to version 3.0

    I upgraded Aperture from 2.0 to 3.x and I can no longer find my project files in the Aperture folder?
    All is working fine, I just want to copy the project files and they are not visible in finder.
    any ideas

    I misunderstood your question. As you were referring to the Aperture folder and locating things in the finder I thought you were trying to find the image files external to Aperture.
    As for info on the structure of the library, from within Aperture take a look at the user manual:  http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/   this is the online version its the same as what you get when you go to Help in Aperture. Pay particular attention to the first section which describes the various parts of the library and how it all goes together.
    As for rating answers, if the thread is yours and you are logged in then eash seperate post should show this
